Family owned, we've been coming here for 20+ years. Their green chili is the bright green kInd no tomatoes, cumin is evident. You can get it hot, which if you know me is a PLUS!! We had lunch here and the service at the bar was really great-- bartender was friendly and attentive. As a SoCal/LA native, I've been searching for authentic, in-house made crunchy tacos in Denver and seeing these on many IG posts, we gave this place a try. They have several options of crunchy tacos and we got one of each- chicken, steak (which is shredded beef), ground beef and carnitas. I tried the carnitas one first and it was my favorite! I can't say I liked any of the others because of the cheese they use- AMERICAN CHEESE! In my opinion, American cheese should only be used on cheese burgers and grilled cheese . I took a bite of the ground beef taco and was like, "is that nacho cheese?" Then opened the taco up and it was definitely American cheese which is a not at all a traditional cheese used in most Mexican cooking. Total no for me. Then I took a bite of the chicken taco- same thing. So we asked the manager (she could have been the owner) about the cheese and she confirmed that all the tacos come with American cheese except the carnitas, which came with cheddar (I believe). So while I really enjoyed the carnitas taco, the others were one bite and done as I cannot get past American cheese being used in a taco. read more

If you really love street tacos then this place ain't it. What you get here is something called a fried taco which tasted like a cheeseburger just put into the tortilla which was disappointing. It did not give any flavors of tacos and the steak texture wise felt like ground beef. I think if you're craving a cheeseburger inside a taco shell then go for it but if you want authentic tacos then I don't recommend this spot. The food did come out fresh which was great but it just did not have the Mexican flavors I wanted. The salsa there was also bland which I didn't enjoy. I can't believe I have never done a review of this place. I am a HUGE fan of deep fried tacos (also how I make mine at home) and they have delicious ones at Mexico City. Not many places make them like this. The ground beef are my favorite dripping with juices and filled with lettuce and fresh tomatoes. I love how each one is shaped different than any others because they are made fresh and by hand. I cannot get enough of these tacos. The bartenders and staff are always so cool and laid back. Make it a very comfortable place to have some good food, something to wash it down with and watch some sports on the TV in the bar. Steve was our bartender this last weekend and that dude is funny. I like his attitude. The location is great too right next to the Rockies stadium. We stop in for breakfast before games and I just learned about their Thursday special with 2 tacos and a drink for $10. Great deal. I will be back for that deal. We had heard so much about this place and decided to finally try it. Cute, clean, no frills place with a mexican cantina/rustic urban vibe. Service was great & everyone helps each other out, in that, we had a designated server, but a couple others came to check on us, brought dishes, the check, etc. It was nice bc we didn't have to wait long for anything. True team players here. Food came rather quickly, and it was not too loud, considering how steady they were just hours prior to the Bronco game. The salsa that comes with the complimentary chips was GOOD! Smoky, savory taste - it would be nice if that was served in a giant mixing bowl and they provided spoons for people who like to drink salsa. The entrees were pretty good. 2 of 3 in our party ordered the 3-taco combo in order to try every type. Only 1 steak taco tasted a bit "off". The deep fried taco shells were yummy, i would like a bit more salt on them, but they were still crunchy, not too oily, and yum. I had the ground beef fried taco, crispy chili relleno, and bean tostada combo plate. Man alive, the green chili drowning the relleno was off the chain! I salivate just thinking about it. How can I not recommend them if they are so delicious lol Crunchy tacos, asada, 4 of them... each and every one was beyond delicious! I may have stuffed my face a lil but hey, when in Rome (I mean, when at Mexico City) lol The shell was crunchy, the meat was really good, soft. Haven't been here in years as there is always a line. Had combo #3, crispy chili relleno, bean tostada, and a fried beef taco. Smothered half hot / half mild chili. All items were delicious and a lot better than I remembered. Ambiance was "rustic", hey it's a little worn down but that's what I like. I placed an online order for pick up & overheard the guy that grabbed the food from a shelf & move less than a meter to give it to the customer complain that he got a zero tip. Out loud. Like you did basically the bare min & you expect a tip? The tipping culture is ridiculous. I'm sure this person just as me was trying to avoid ridiculous delivery fees alongside having to tip just to be mocked by a server that did absolutely nothing other than hand over the food. Wow what an incredible restaurant! Came here for a group event and was blown away by the incredible service and food. Super fun mexican restaurant with an awesome ambiance and warm, welcoming, and hospitable staff. Also really enjoyed all the Tv's located around the restaurant so we were able to watch both the hockey and basketball playoffs while we enjoyed an incredible dinner. I would say my favorite dishes were the fried tacos and the chicken enchiladas. Again, so appreciative of the wonderful staff and delicous food. It was also great to meet the owner Dave. He was hustling behind the bar, bussing tables, talking to guests, and just really working hard to take care of the guests and his employees. Food here is great! Although I can only comment on the breakfast burritos. Which we have grabbed on multiple occasions. How can I say no to a $5 breakfast burrito on a lazy Saturday morning? Went in for brunch today since I hadn't had my fried tacos yet this quarter. Place was packed but we got a table in 5 minutes. Ordered the chips and salsa. And if you haven't tried one yet, you need to run, not walk, your way downtown and get you some! The fried steak taco It is one of my top five favorite foods in Denver, and I'm gonna bet I'm not the only one that feels that way. These tacos are what dreams are made of. On Fridays, they serve a carnitas (pork) fried taco (it's not on the menu). I asked, since we were in on a Saturday if they had any left. They did! Yippeee - I've been wanting to try these FOREVAH! They were very good but you don't get the avacado slice on top of the carnitas fried taco. The fried steak tacos come with beautiful slices of carne asada, lettuce, tomato, and a slice of avocado all inside of a fried corn tortilla. This alone would make this dish awesome BUT the folks at Mexico City put a nice layer of melted old school American cheese on the bottom of the taco. Are you kidding me? I could die tomorrow and be a happy camper. Mexico City has been around since I can remember. The menu says they've been in business since 1968 and it's currently run by the third generation of the family. This place gets packed on Rockies game day so beware if you come during that time. Place has a dive bar ambience (good food reasonably priced.) Ordered steak tacos. Quality of the meat has gone down considerably. Some of the meat had a paste-like consistency. Ordered chips & salsa. Didn't know they charge for them. Salsa was not very spicy and n fact it was quite sweet. Definitely not the place I remember from 3-4 years ago. One person- $26 for 4 tacos, chips & salsa, no drink (water), taxes and tip is beyond what I'm willing to pay for lunch. This may be a downtown phenomenon but, going out to lunch everyday would end up costing $500+ / month. I'll be packing my lunch here on out. Even if I decided to splurge occasionally, I won't be going back there any time soon :-( read more

I had been told to go to Mexico City due to their amazing food, went yesterday for my cousins bday brunch and ended up with a horrible experience, when we first arrived we were seated pretty fast but the server we had was horrible.. i believe her name was Fernanda.. she had a horrible attitude, kept rolling her eyes at us, didn't acknowledge we where even there I myself was a server for many years and the way her customer service is it really suck.. she also added her own tip onto our bill and never even saw her. only good experience we had was having the busser around to help with all out needs. read more

Always a challenge deciding where to go for lunch because parking factors into the decision. Street parking or parking in a paid lot for this restaurant. Street parking prices have increased fyi. They are open for indoor dining which is great. We were seated right away and our drink order taken. We ordered chips and Guac and salsa. I went with steak tacos and he had steak and 2 chicken tacos. It's a nice atmosphere here. Easy to converse as not too loud and service is friendly. There's a bar if you want to sit at it which sometimes I like to do. The food didn't take long and they were honest as they dropped his steak taco so they brought the chicken ones first so we could start eating and remade his steak one. That's great because I dislike my food sitting out if we're waiting for one thing to be done. So the server's choice made me happy as the tacos were still crunchy and they were fixing their mistake. The steak tacos were tasty. Lightly fried tortilla and soft steak. They aren't my fav steak tacos but they are delish. The server was attentive and checked on us enough but not too much. Fried tacos?! Say no more. Located right off larimer by the ballpark - what a perfect spot! I always saw this place when I lived over there and I don't know how I didn't end up there until now. I got the queso, salsa, and chips to start. The salsa was good! I was really excited because not a lot of places have chile con queso but the flavors were just off for me.
