Great food and service!! It's nice to have a Mexican food this giid so close to home.

Charles Dailey Just now · I never write reviews--not for books, food, or other products. So this is an exceptional case, and should be recognized as such. Macho's Mexican Restaurant in Winnie--I've eaten there for many years. The food used to be consistently good for many years. It stopped being so several years ago, however. Sometime around 2020, they started adding way too much spice to several of the dishes, which I asked about. But, they never really told me why they made the change. Still, I often ordered food to-go there, the same three or four dishes that weren't over seasoned--for years. I tolerated their decline because there aren't many restaurants in Winnie, as we all know. Today, however, I placed a to-go order and then went to pick it up. I spend quite a bit of money there, you must understand--on the three or four still-edible dishes. I paid and the woman behind the counter didn't have the correct change. I'm not always a stickler about this, but she also didn't have the correct change just a couple of days ago--in both cases to Macho's benefit. Today, she told me they didn't have any pennies (which they didn't have last time, she said). Then she said that the government is going to stop making pennies, anyway. I said, okay, but that doesn't mean that a business doesn't have to provide correct change. It's their obligation. Then I said, okay, just give me a nickel. Then, she said that they didn't have any nickels, either. I told her that this is the second time in a row that Macho's didn't have the correct change, and that, in any case, it is the business (restaurant or otherwise), not the customer, that is obligated to makes up the difference. Every good business owner knows this. It's common sense and just basic manners. It's standard practice for over a hundred years. She told me that if I didn't like it, I could leave. Just like that. She would rather I leave than give me a dime or whatever other denomination she still had in the register. There was another employee nearby, so I asked her if she agreed with her coworker's rudeness. She said yes, and that my family "always causes problems" there. She simply made that up on the spot, I guess, since 99% of the time I am the only one who goes there, and only for a few minutes to pick up the food I order. And I hardly speak. Everyone knows that I'm a fairly quiet person. Then the first employee, the really rude one that tried to short-change me, started talking in Spanish to the ladies making the food right in front of me. I told her that that, also, was rude. It's obviously rude to start speaking in a foreign language in front of someone, and usually for a not good reason. I told her she should have been taught as a child about how to give change and about the language use. (And, by the way, this is United States. If you can't speak English, you shouldn't be here.) In any case, I told the one who tried to short-change me and got upset that I didn't just submit to her unfair action, to keep their food and give me a refund. They did and I left. I will not return. And, again, I NEVER write reviews. But this is beyond the pale. I thought I should share it, because if a business can tolerate rude and angry employees who bristle at simply having to do what all normal businesses have always done forever, what other issues might that business have? read more

Quite a sold Mexican food restaurant. Sat us almost immediately on a Friday afternoon which was a good sign. I was very thirsty so they did a great job keeping my water & tea topped up - and they were HUGE cups. The chips were solid, but the salsa was way too sweat with no heat. The waitress was busy with a ton of tables but was still pretty attentive. I went with one of the specials that had a wide variety. Solid taco, but not very inspired. Very cheesy tamale & enchilada. Again, not a great rendition, but the price was crazy cheap. Rice & beans - ditto. Finally, no alcoholic drinks so if you want a margarita, you'll need to stop someone else for it. read more

This is good Mexican! First time here and since I am on vacation, I might not be back for a long time. Had the gorditas with pork and they were good. I specifically loved the cheese and the beans. The beans had a great flavor and are not like every other Mexican restaurant. Salsa was good. Guacamole was great. read more

My Mother and I stopped by Machos today May 20. It was phenomenal. The food, salsa and service was the best. I give it a 5 star. I could eat the chips and salsa every day. read more

Went to this place after a long day at the beach craving some Mexican food and this place over delivered. Most of my table ordered quesadillas and we loved them. One member of our party ordered flautas and he liked them too. Staff was also very friendly even though we came in close to closing time. Highly recommend. read more

I was invited today to have lunch at Macho's Mexican Restaurant located on the corner of Buccaneer Dr. and Hwy 124 in Winnie,Texas. As I walked in, my first impression was how attractive and clean the restaurant was. It has a very inviting and lovely Mexican decor. You seat yourself and we were served salsa, chips and a menu not long after being seated. Their menu is vast, with a variety of Tex-mex as well as authentic Mexican food. The salsa was very good (mild to my taste)and the queso was excellent. Definitely some of the best I have ever had. I ordered the fajita mix with beef and shrimp. The grilled shrimp and beef fajitas were seasoned well, not bland at all. The shrimp was not large but very flavorful and very fresh. Each bite provided a forkful of comfort and flavor. Everything I ordered was prepared to my liking and I would definitely return. My friend Karon, ordered the #8 on the menu. It was beef fajita meat wrapped in a 6" four tortilla, covered w/ chile con queso, with beans and pico. Macho's Mexican Restaurant in Winnie, Texas, highly recommended. They are Best Bites approved. What has happened here??? Worst service ever! After 10 minutes at the table, no waiter at all. Walked to front counter to get our own menus, 3 wait staff members leaning on counter, trolling their phones!! Rude waitress stated" menus are coming" and eventually delivered them, at a truly sloth-like pace! Unbelievable!! Finally ordered, food was wonderful, exactly what we remembered. But, had to find waiter, found him sitting at corner table, again trolling his phone, and asked for chips and sauce. He looked up blankly and asked"which table?" Really, dude?!? Three tables in the entire place had customers!! And then it took 7 minutes to get chips. Yep, at this point, I was timing this ridiculousness!! I was staying in Winnie for work. My colleagues and I ate a late lunch, so for dinner we were just really looking for a place to grab a beer and some snacks. We'd already eaten at Al T's a couple of times, so that was out of the question. We decided to go to Macho. When our waitress took our drink order, I asked her what beer they had? She just said "No." What?! A Mexican place without beer?! Unheard of. We sucked it up and ordered some nachos, etc. There wasn't anything special about them, but they were ok. The fajita steak that I got on mine was very tasty. I probably should've just ordered tacos al carbon or something instead of the nachos. The place left a bad taste in my mouth by no fault of their own. I was hoping for one thing and given another. I might be back, but Al T's serves beer, so I probably won't. read more

It gets 2 stars because it wasn't bad. But it was less than expected since there were so many cars outside, which isually means it's very good. Chicken overdone. Chalupas OK. Not much flavor except salt. Good for kids. I must state, though, that the service was great, and the people were friendly. Also, everyone who I happened to meet in town said it's just wonderful, so maybe the main cook was out. read more

This place is HORRIBLE! I got diarrhea every time I went there! Never again!! Is not even Mexican food, is texmex, is a shame to be owned by Mexicans. I honestly don't see how people go back to that place. read more

Bummer. Clearly a local favorite, busiest place in this tiny town. But this was not great food. Salsa was spiced tomato sauce. Beans were straight from the can. I give it a two, because I am not feeling sick...yet. read more

This place has great TexMex at great prices. Hot sauce is amazing! It does get a littler crowded at times but the wait staff does a good job at trying to keep up and always friendly. Getting hungry just trying to type this review. read more

Keep your expectations low. One waitress served a party of three, 1 woman 2 men, served the men first. Definitely don't know proper food service. They charged my AMEX twice. Watch you cc bill. Food is an imitation of real Mexican food. It is busy because it's the only Mex place in town. read more

Apparently these folks couldn't write an itemized receipt. And because I was so disappointed about this i didn't realize that they also overcharged me. ( i mean it wasn't a lot but the fact that they couldn't itemize a receipt led me to write this unfortunate review. read more

This was really good!! Enchiladas and beef burrito were are favorite. My son loved his tamale.

After a long morning and afternoon of Teal Hunting my son and I were looking for some good grease and found it at Macho's. Great chips and a good salsa got our fix in check. We stuck to a simple order of crispy tacos and perfecto nachos and we're not disappointed. A good solid Mexican meal that is sure to cure your crave. Enjoy. read more

Very good best Mexican food in Winnie

Been here a few times while staying in Winnie. Servers are all very nice and polite. Food is good, nothing amazing but definitely not disappointing. They got our to go order wrong one night (leaving out two items from out meals) and the don't have a changing table in the rest room, otherwise I would give 5 star. read more

I really have no complaints about this place. I usually order off of the lunch special menu. Mon-Fri lunch time is $5.99 and outside of that time it's just $1 extra. The food is always fresh and hot and served relatively quickly. Even when the floor was busy, the service was great! Free chips and salsa are served while you wait for your food, as expected. read more

We stopped here for lunch on our way through Texas while traveling cross country. The menu offered a number of lunch specials (enchiladas, taco salad etc) as well as tortas and other traditional Mexican fare. We were immediately given a huge basket of fresh, hot chips and a generous bowl of tangy (but not over-the-top hot) salsa. The servers were friendly and did not try to rush us, but our food was delivered promptly. I had the taco salad and my husband had a chicken torta-we were both very pleased with our meals. The servings were generous, the ingredients were fresh and the flavors blended well together. If we were local this is a place we would be visiting regularly. read more

The folks live in Winnie. We were visiting and kept driving by, so we finally decided it was time for some enchiladas. The place is no great shakes as far as the appearance goes. But it's clean, and the staff are friendly. But best of all, the food was fantastic. The enchiladas were honestly the best I've ever had. Three of us ordered beef enchiladas and every single one agreed, they were delicious. Not just an unidentifiable mass of gooey whatever, these enchiladas were fat and consisted of light and fluffy, fresh tortillas, beautifully cooked ground beef and the tastiest sauce and cheese. My mouth is watering thinking about them. If I lived anywhere near these enchiladas, I'd be SO fat. My husband seemed equally enamored of his chimichanga. The queso and guacamole we started with were also delicious, VERY fresh and tasty guacamole. Loved it. Please don't overlook this place because it's not fancy. You will be thankful you gave it a try. read more
