Great chicken for a great price! Family combo came with 1 1/2 chicken, tortillas, rice, beans, grilled onion and jalapeno for under $40

I happened upon this place today while I was waiting for my car getting a windshield chip repaired next door. The guy at the counter who took my order was friendly. I ordered a three chicken taco combo with rice and beans. With a can soda, tax, and a credit card fee, my total bill was about $17. More than I expected to spend, but oh well. The food was ready quickly, served on a cardboard plate that easily weighed 3 lbs. from the weight of the food, which included lime wedges, a bunch of grilled onions, and a whole grilled green chili pepper. The tacos were street taco style and stuffed with delicious chopped grilled chicken, tender yet crispy, and diced onions, cilantro, and fresh avocado slices included (no extra charge). Really good. The refried beans were so good, just the right consistency and flavor, with a little shredded cheese on top. Almost as good as my mom's. The rice was fluffy and plentiful, obviously made fresh. But it could've used a little more flavor. They offer three types of salsa that you serve yourself. I tried the green and the lighter red one. Both good. When I first got my order I didn't think I would be able to eat all of it because it was so much food. But it was really delicious and I was pretty hungry, so I devoured almost all of it (left some rice, the grilled onions, and the roasted chili pepper). I'm about to cook dinner now but I'm still thinking about that lunch I ordered. My dinner won't be as good as that was. Don't be turned off by the looks of the place (weird exterior; dark and unappealing interior). Some might call it a "hole in the wall". But you know, some of the best Mexican food can be found at those places. You can also order to-go if you'd rather not eat there. I think they also have a drive-thru. If I'm back in the area I'll make a point to get something to eat here again. read more

Food: The food was delicious. I got two whole chickens, around 57 dollars and some change. The chicken was so good and full of flavor. They do it on the grill, so it is charred. The onions that come with it are good. They are so tender, juicy, and sweet for some reason. The green and red salsas are good. The green salsa was spicy but good. Service: The service was excellent. Excellent grilled chicken and great value. The chicken was flavorful, beautifully grilled and not dried out. The addition of the grilled onions and jalapenos added to the flavor. The the salsas were fresh and tasty. The rice and beans were good, nothing to write home about but better than el crazy chicken, the corn tortillas were fine but we used our own. I'll definitely be back to order a few chickens a la cart. Service was friendly and fast. I used the drive through so I can't comment on the ambience. read more

I was in the mood for chicken and was nearby. I tried their #1 which is a half chicken with beans and rice. They can add grilled onions and jalapenos on top as well. The sides were good and tasted fresh. The chicken was tender and came with sliced avocados and hot tortillas. The meat was tender and the skin was crispy. The grilled onions were soft and the salsa was hot and flavorful. The staff is nice, plenty of seating inside. read more

Macho Pollo serves up some of the best chicken around--perfectly tender and full of flavor. The rice and beans are equally impressive, making for a satisfying meal. While I haven't been inside, the exterior could use a little TLC. Service is fast in the drive thru. It's waaaay better than Pollo Loco. It's fire grilled chicken, good flavor not the juiciest but it was still great. The beans are delicious and the rice is authentic. They give you a generous amount of salsas, onions and jalapeños. The salsas are bomb! I can tell they work hard at giving you the best hearty meal you can get for $25. I got the #2 whole chicken with large sides. There are tables but it's not all that cozy inside so I opted to take home. They are busy, so don't expect conversation. It came with a side of beans, Mexican rice, tortillas, and three forms of salsa - $19.99. It's a good deal because it's proportionally generous. If you don't care too, too much about the flavor of the chicken, this is your place. Each order comes with a generous amount onions heaped on top of the chicken. It's good.
