A good place to come for food. I can not say enough about the ceviche. The seafood was fresh, the sauce was on point and just a tad of spice. The fried fish was lightly breaded and light.... Loved it!!! I could eat this fish all day. My coworker had the beef plate he left nothing on that plate. He said it was soo good. He was full and kept on eating. The service was just ok. Our waitress was super nice but does not understand English which made it some what hard to ask questions about the food. I thought the place is cute. I was surprised to discover that Machu Picchu has merged with Fifties Diner. The decor is the same, but they are renovating the space next door. We ordered from both menus. See my review of the diner on the separate page. We ordered the grilled calamari which was cooked perfectly and came with a different kind of corn. IMuch larger kernels and the texture was different. It also came with a very spicy salsa which was so delicious I took the leftovers home and ate with my dinner tonight. We also ordered their fried corn kernals called ocopa con camarones. It also contained fried plantain and was beautifully seasoned. I could easily get addicted to that snack. I think that the the Fifties Diner is benefiting greatly from this incredible kitchen. August 1/21: This was a birthday meal for our neighbour Jessica. The food was delicious! We finally had a chance to drink a Pisco Premium Sour. I've heard about them but this is my first try. It was delicious but I would have made it more sour! As for the food, it was my first ceviche & it was delicious. Had a beef empanada as well & it was delicious too! My main was Arroz Con Moriscos. Basically rice with seafood. And again tasty as it gets. The dessert was Luca Mara Cheesecake. It was great. Our server was Javier. Very polite & efficient server. No issues. Restaurant lost a star cause it's in need of a good cleaning. I wish I could say I'll go back but if the owner is reading....CLEAN YOUR RESTAURANT! read more

Loved this place!! It totally has a home style family owned and operated vibe. The crowd was a mix of bag, but everyone seemed to be enjoying the wonderful atmosphere and food! The food was AMAZING!!! We enjoyed about 4 different items from the menu, all were very tasty, seemed authentic, (from the Peruvian food, my uncle has made for me) and the portion sizes were pretty big!! I would say one main entree is enough food for two people if you order an appetizer. The prices were a bit high, but the quality and quantity were both very good, well worth it. They had karaoke on the Friday night we enjoy! With a mix of Spain and English songs and a big selection. There was ample free parking. The only reason this place isn't getting 5 stars is that there was only one waitress for the whole place... on a Friday night, but the owner was there helping out. I didn't mind the timing of the service, but we were a group of 20+ and some of our party got bothered by the lack of attention... that being said, if you want service, sometimes all you have to do is ask! read more

The food is delicious and the staff is very friendly. There are a lot of red onions on everything, so if you don't like onions you're in the wrong place. However I hear they wash them after they are sliced, so they aren't as pungent as normal raw onions. Prices are very reasonable too! read more

Given number of reviews with patrons becoming ill afterwards, and me too, I cannot recommend. Came here with my family and were excited to dine. No one else was in the restaurant which should have been our first warning as it was supper hour. Kids orders from kids menu. We ordered. I ordered black scallops...take note. Was told they are very fresh, very fresh. Server returned 5 minutes later, didn't have one child's choice. Ordered something different. Returned 5 minutes later, didn't have that either. Ended up with a hot dog...didn't realize that was local cuisine. That was second warning. All the while someone kept going out side door, returning a few minutes later with a plastic bag. Shopping for our dinner? Third warning? Time waned on, cold hotdogs arrived. Fourth warning. Black scallops arrived in a martini glass...take note. They were plastered with raw chopped onions. I'm not a chef but know that raw onions will kill the taste of just about anything. Hmm...fifth warning... Sidebar- for those that don't know, black scallops are raw clams or so I'm told. They must be served absolutely fresh, straight from ocean is best. I thought hey, it's a restaurant in Oakville, what could go wrong? For the next 48hrs I intermittently vomited or had diarrhea or had both at the same time. Try that once and you'll never come to this establishment nor wish your worst enemy dine here. Besides the fact that I spent most of my evening throwing up after this meal (truth) , this was a terrible meal and was so over price, looking at between 18-20 per entree and its a little hole in the ground type of restaurant with terrible atmosphere. The atmosphere of the restaurant was really sweet and the staff was really friendly. I do agree that the food is way overpriced for what you get. I got the calamari and it was really tasty, albiet really salty. It was one of the cheaper items on the menu at $16. I did not like this restaurant because there were too many Mexicans working there and i had a sense that they were illegally working there. While the food was decent, the staff was a little bit annoying and it took 15 minutes for us to get our food even though half the restaurant was empty. I guess you could say the food was worth the wait which was the only good thing. I also heard a lot of swearing in Spanish from the kitchen. This place deserves a better rating. We were slightly hesitant at first because the location looks sketchy, the place was empty when we got there and the interior looked pretty simple. However, all our doubts faded away when we tried the food. The food is very good quality and taste, and it deserves five stars. We had the empanadas, the ceviche and the beef tenderloin sauteed with onions and peppers. We've had many empanadas and ceviches before and it's as good as it gets at Machu Picchu. The beef tenderloin was also very tasty tossed in a slightly sweet and fragrant cilantroish sauce with al dente vegetables and perfectly cooked rice. My only suggestion would be to remove the yam and the lettuce leaf from the ceviche plate and remove the fries from the beef dish - there's no need in them. I bet it would help bring the price down a bit too. The food arrived quickly. The service was good. But it was only us and one other party later on, which could be why we didn't have the same problem as the previous comments, so I don't know. The server (she's not Cuban btw, unless we had a different one) was new in Canada and did have some trouble speaking, but having been in the same situation a long time ago myself, I can definitely appreciate all her effort that she's put in when serving us. She just needs a bit more experience and needs time to get used to the language, but she was very pleasant and caring. We'll be back for some great food. read more

After my husband and heard about this place from a friend we immediately went to check it out, seeing as how we both love Peruvian food to the max. Now, I have some mixed feelings about this restaurant and in the end I just can't give it any more than 3 stars, and here is why: I ordered the Mahi Mahi ceviche and it was absolutely divine. However, as good as it tastes, the portion to price ratio is way off. You get a tennis ball size amount for the roaring price of $16.99. Now I know seafood tend to be a little up there, but ceviche is quite inexpensive to make! Now the service there is a little baffling. When my husband and I walked in the door, we wern't sure if it was a seat-yourself situation or not because there was no waiter in sight for 5 minutes as we stood there by the door like a pair of idiots. Finally, after 5 minutes the waitress came and told us to sit anywhere by the far end of the restaurant, but right after we sat down she told us we had to move because apparently half of that area was reserved for a large party. After this we thought we could finally order and eat, but we waited over 10 minutes just to get our menu, followed by the waitress disappearing for another 20 minutes or so before she came back to take our orders. My husband ordered an English soda and twice the waitress brought the wrong drink. After getting our food, the "big party" came in and from that point on was just an incredibly disruptive experience, as they kept bumping into the back of my chair and was so loud I could barely carry out a conversation with my husband. Used to take my entire family to this restaurant, but the last two times the food has been awful, ordered aji de gallina for my wife which was full with bones, uneatable, entries were cold and not to mention my lomo saltado, which used to be great, now the meat was full of grease and hard to eat. My mother asked for the fish plate no rice for her meal and you know what the so called chef said to the server? 'Oh, who cares? Do whatever you want that's how the plate is supposed to be served'. My parents held an engagement party at Machu Pichu for us. It was OUTSTANDING. The owner,Roberto, made sure that the service, the food, the ambiance was taken care of. I went there with my family half Peruvian half Canadian. We really enjoy the meal. We went because we were told they came out with a new menu and it was a surprise. They really upgraded their dishes, lots of choices for the week days. (I think there's also a menu for Saturday night) the food was amazing, very juicy and flavourful, real Peruvian, maybe a little bit salty but my father told me Peruvians eat salty. Not a big deal if you ask for less salt in your meal. I read reviews from years ago that the service is not as good as the food, but the guy server that served us was great and kind, very profesional. My advice is to go there on the week days if you want to enjoy the food or go on Friday and Saturday night if you want to party and have a nice meal (karaoke and live Latin music nights) read more

Bad experience!!!! Pisco sour was bad, not really a Pisco sour, we were not able to drink it and the waitress never asked why the glass was still full when she picked it up. Tacu Tacu con lomo saltado, I love this dish...when I started to eat I found a hair in my plate, called the waitress let her know and she offered to change it...I said no and I order for another dish...it was dissapointing but the worse part came with the bill, they charged me for the tacu tacu and not for the second dish (of course the second dish was cheaper) ... overall it was a bad experience and I don't plan to return to that place or recommend it. read more

My family went there for lunch on a Saturday. My husband is from Peru so he is familiar with the cuisine. There was one waitress for the restaurant so she was pretty busy with 4 tables when we came in, and 2 more groups came in afterwards. I would say service was quick and the wait time reasonable. The waitress spoke mainly with my husband in Spanish but she did speak in English to the rest of us when necessary. Not very friendly by Western stds but my husband did not find her rude just business like. The food was quite good but a bit on the salty side esp. arroz con pollo & the fried fish. The best dish was ceviche mixto and of course Tamales Peruano. We ordered quite a few dishes 5 main (avg $15), 3 side ($6), 1 Pisco Sour $8 (delicious), 2 ice cream (expensive $7ea-not worth it) and a jug of Chicha Morada $12 (purple corn juice which was surprisingly good). The total was $125 plus add HST and tip so even lunch can be pricey. If you stick to water & no dessert then it averages to $18 a person. I'd definitely go back again but at lunch when it's not too busy. read more
