Part 2: Thought gas tank leak had actually been fixed, after 800 bucks and lots of hassle (See original review). Approximately 2 weeks of no gas leaks, it began again to leak gas. Took car to a different auto shop who found gas tank had been replaced with gas tank that had holes in it, that were plugged up with an epoxy caulk or glue. Gasoline, of course, corrodes epoxy material so the $800 fix was very temporary. This place is terrible. Don't trust this place and avoid at all costs. read more

I haven't taken my car to the repair shop yet, but I have gotten gas and purchased items at the adjacent convenience store twice and had very positive experiences both times. They've always had everything I needed (milk, windshield wiper fluid, salt, etc.), the prices were reasonable, and I've never had to wait in line. I've interacted with the same woman at the counter both times, and she was not only friendly but seemed to remember me. I enjoyed our conversations, and I'll continue to go here for gas and small essentials. read more

Went in to have rear shocks replaced on my truck. First quote was $475.00 I said that too much. Second quote was $350.00, which I agreed to. Then stopped by and price went up to $385.00 which they claimed it was for tax and additional fees. That should have been in the original estimate. Told them to just give me my truck back. Cost me $65.00 to get my truck out. Very bad business. For a neighborhood business starting up they are on the wrong page. Don't go there, way over priced. Gas is cheep but repairs are over the top. When I was there they charged a customer $85.00 to plug a tire I almost choked. read more

Brought my car in the tire was going flat. They told me it would it would cost 120.00 doLars. They put 3 or 4 plugs in it. And it went flat within a week. Found out I could have bought a new tire for less. I should have known I was getting ripped off. read more

Absolute worst shop I've ever come across. I dropped off my car to have the alternator replaced which they did in a timely manner. However, as I work on my own car, I've discovered they left the top bolt off the alternator which shortened the life of my A/C condensor which you have to remove in the alternator replacement. In addition to this My A/c condensor was reinstalled with 1 bolt. My car is not ruined, but they have wasted so much of my time having to track down hardware for parts that I've worked on, that I find it a valuable use of my time to ACTUALLY write a yelp review. -10/10 would not recommend. No pride in work, lazy, and poor workanship. read more

I have been taking all of my cars to 13 & Crooks for at least 15 years. I have never had bad service. In fact, all of the mechanics have gone out of their way to give me great service and are VERY HONEST when it comes to repairs. They have fixed mine and my family's cars when others couldn't figure out the problem!! I have referred people there and have come to find out that many of them had already been going there for years and think they get great service as well!! This is a long story, so I'll start with the punchline. Dave at 13 and Crooks went above and beyond what a normal business owner would do to help us get our car fixed. Here's the story: I am a Michigan native living in Columbus, Ohio. I was traveling through Michigan to visit family and felt my car shaking, so I exited the highway and ended up near 13 and Crooks late on a Saturday night. The owner, Dave, was about to leave for the evening but took a look at my car, diagnosed it with a bad wheel bearing on the front driver's side, but could not get the part until Monday morning. We left the car, found other transportation, returned home, and I drove back later in the week to pick up the car after it was fixed. I drove the car for another month or so and it was fine, and I thought that was the end of the story. Skip forward a few weeks, and we were once again traveling through Michigan, this time up north - to Black Lake near Cheboygan. We made the trip up there (7 hours from home) with no problems, but took a short day trip to the U.P. and the car started shaking again. This occurred the day before we were supposed to head home, and we needed to be back in Columbus on Sunday for a variety of reasons - one of which was that my wife was flying to California for business on Sunday afternoon. I took the car to Main Street Automotive in Cheboygan, where the owner there - Paul - immediately diagnosed a wheel bearing problem on the same wheel (front driver's side). I called Dave at 13 and Crooks, who agreed to pay for the repair with no arguments. However, it turned out that somehow during the original repair, the threads on the axle became stripped, and the nut that holds the bearing and wheel in place wasn't holding. In other words, the new wheel bearing was fine, but the axle was damaged. It is unusual for this part to fail, so literally no parts dealers - not even dealerships - in the State of Michigan or any adjoining states, carried this part in stock and it had to be ordered. This meant we couldn't get the car repaired until Tuesday the following week (this was now a Saturday morning when we were finding out this information). If that was the case, we would have had to rent a car and drive home, and then make the 14 hour round trip to pick up the vehicle after it was fixed. However - somehow Dave at 13 and Crooks tracked down the only part in the State of Michigan (a refurbished one) at Detroit Wheel and Axle, purchased it, and arranged to have the part driven up to Cheboygan - a 4 hour trip one way. It arrived at 4:30 pm that Saturday, the fantastic gentlemen at Main Street Automotive - who kept their shop open for us - made the repair, and we made it home early Sunday morning. Dave paid for the repair, again without hesitation. Considering the circumstances, this repair was as painless as could be expected. Can't thank Dave at 13 and Crooks - and the guys at Main Street Automotive - enough for their help and professionalism. If I lived in Royal Oak - I'd have found my go-to auto repair shop for certain. read more

Ok I have never written anything about gas stations. But I see it's time to speak about their customer service. So I go to purchase gas at Sunoco gas station at the corner of Crooks/ 12 mile rd. I go inside because I'm using my visa debit card, and I have cash I would like to make use of also. I say hello to the employee and state the amount to put on my card, and give him my cash. (he never spoke back) I go pump my gas and notice the pump stops, so I wait thinking the pump will reset for my cash amount. As I'm standing at my car, the employee waves me in. He says you only asked for so much. I said yes a certain amount on my card, and I gave you so much in cash. He then tells me no you didn't say that amount raising his voice. I then said look you were really not paying me much attention when I came in so please just admit you made an mistake, and please put the rest on my card. He then raises his voice again and tells me to calm down. I told him I've been calm your the one who's upset. I just want to get my gas and go about my day. He then tells me while getting the receipt, I'm the owner and I don't make mistakes. I told the owner it's a shame you don't know about customer service, but I'll be sure use the gas station across the street. He then tells me "I don't care". I left, and pumped my gas. I'm more shocked the owner is the ass! I'm not going to state his raise, but his demeanor clearly has no respect for women. As I thought back he was very polite to all the men who came in prior to me and afterwards. I could have acted an ass with him, but I thought about it. He's not worth the time or energy, I had just left the gym from a wonderful work out. I laughed in my head his horrible looking teeth are his punishment. How are you the owner, but your teeth look as if you don't have dental insurance. (I know that's mean) but damn his teeth looked a hot mess, maybe he's not getting any due to his teeth, and that's why he's in such a funky mood!?! read more

I dont do this type of reviewing thing, but am annoyed with Tamika's misplaced remarks. I have lived many years, a couple blocks from this station at 13 Mile and Crooks. The current owner, who also worked for the previous owner before him, are and were good people, and very helpful with all and anybody, young and old. In fact he employs a woman mechanic who is very knowledgeable. He is commonly courteous and will help the DIY person with just about anything. Tamika has slammed the incorrect Sunoco gas station location, as shown in her picture and text. It is unfair that her narcisstic projections are misplaced. This is an excellent owner and service station, of the likes not commonly found in todays fast, self served and centered world. read more

I have been using Dave as my mechanic for years! Very honest, great work, good prices, etc. His mechanics don't work on commission so no up-selling like Big Chains. He gets me in quickly or will tell me when is the best time to drop it off or wait so I don't waste my time. I have recommended him to many of my patients only to find out that a lot of them have already been using Dave also for years and like the service! Highly recommended. read more

Came here on Sunday for a Tire repair and it was was quick and the staff was very curious

Went in for an oil change, tire rotation, and all over inspection because I was heading out on a long road trip. I was taken in right away and I was "taken"....almost. Service was finished in about 10 min. Fast right?! Too fast. Now, I know a complete inspection was not done. Was told I needed new brakes ASAP. I was even shown first hand....but i am no mechanic and didn't know what I was looking at really. Decided to get a second opinion later. Drove my vehicle out onto Crooks and immediately felt my vehicle shaking. Turned around and went right back into the station. The mechanic drove my car in the parking lot and I watched. The front tire was wobbling....the lug nuts were not tight!!! WHAT!?! Let them tighten the tire onto my vehicle and went straight to another shop. Guess what!?! I have half the life of my brakes yet...and the second shop had no idea of my previous experience before they took my car in to look at it. read more
