We have an 11-year old Toyota Camry that has treated us well. We noticed the car was stalling quite a bit while driving (quite dangerous), so we first took it to a local dealer for diagnosis. We told the dealer that the car made a loud whirring metal-on-metal noise when we engaged the clutch (we have a manual transmission), and the car also did not sound right when we pressed the accelerator. The dealer charged us $190 for diagnostics and wanted another $1,000 to tear down the clutch to further diagnose the problem. If we needed a new clutch the total cost would be $2,000 - $2,500 through the dealer. We did not trust what the dealer told us so we looked for a different mechanic. After reading all the great reviews on Yelp we decided to bring the car in to the Mack Garage. Eric looked at the car and determined that the clutch was most likely the problem given the 155,000 miles we had on it. He quoted us 9 hours of labor plus parts to rebuild the entire clutch for $993. We told him to go ahead and replace it since the car had such high mileage with the original clutch. Our entire experience was exceptional. Eric rebuilt the clutch and gave us back the car. He told us that the car was still idling low and stalling once in a while, but he recommended we drive it over the weekend and bring it back on Monday for further diagnosis. Sure enough the car still idled low so we brought it back. Eric changed the factory original spark plugs for $81 and said to leave the car so he could continue to research the problem. He also cleaned the throttle body. The next day Eric called with a definitive diagnosis. The crank shaft was visibly moving in the engine block. It's not supposed to move more than 0.012", which is not visible to the human eye. Eric explained that this was the result of worn thrust bearings related to a poor engine rebuild, which our dealer had performed 5 months prior due to a technical service bulletin/recall for excessive oil consumption. He suggested that we go back to the dealer to have them warranty their work. Long story short - we returned to the dealer, they denied responsibility and wanted $1,000 to tear down the engine. We declined since we now had no trust in the dealer's work. We asked Eric for his advice and he calmly told us to hold Toyota accountable for their work. We got the Toyota district service manager involved. Toyota towed the car to another dealer, had their regional tech inspect the car, and they determined that the short block should have been replaced during the first engine rebuild. The manager received approval for Toyota to cover the second engine rebuild at a cost of $6,500. Without Eric's help we most likely would have sold the car for $500 for parts. Based on his thoughtful diagnosis and thorough work, we are now driving a 2007 Camry with a brand new engine, clutch, serpentine belt, and water pump for about $1,500. read more

These guys are amazing! I called them to replace my window motor/regulator, and they got the parts and installed them that same afternoon. I really appreciated that because it's freezing outside - even with gloves and the heat blasting I couldn't feel my fingers! They even dropped me off at my apartment and picked me up when they finished so I wouldn't have to wait in the cold (they don't have a heated waiting area yet). They also had the cheapest labor cost out of the half-dozen places I called. I ended up paying way less than I was expecting, and at no point felt like I was being ripped off or pushed to approving more repairs. They were transparent, extremely friendly, customer-oriented, trust-worthy and simply awesome overall! I will definitely go to them for my future repairs! Car problems can be a nightmare for the money-deficient among us, but they made my experience as pleasant as possible and I feel confident that I got the best deal possible. They were under priced, and were quick to notice several other small thing's I've purposefully put off these last few months. Sharp eye, quick work, and good prices.
