So good with cilantro!), Stockman pizza with original crust (loaded with meat, delicious sauce, awesome fresh crust, non-greasy) Baked ziti, and chicken Alfredo both with obviously homemade unique and tasty sauce. She brought the check AND my food in a to go box and said it was ready so..... We have given them plenty of second chances. But after this last one we wont go back. I was staying at the Residence Inn, and I didn't rent a car. I either had to walk about a mile to get my dinner, or get takeout. The staff at the hotel was very helpful and gave me coupons to MacKenzie River. There was a coupon for free Lodgepoles and 10% off. MacKenzie let me combine both coupons! I ended up with a Small Cottonwood Pizza, Lodgepoles, and a Small MacKenzie Cobb Salad. You're probably thinking...damn, that's a lot of food for one person! And yes, it was. But I couldn't pass up the coupons, and I was hungry. Everything I ordered could've fed two to three people, and I had a lot leftover. The salad was your basic Cobb salad. For a small, the portion was pretty big. The Lodgepoles were tasty. They had a good amount of cheese, and everything was still nice and hot when it got to me. The pizza was good. I'm usually a meaty kind of girl, but I decided to go with chicken to be on the "healthier" side. It was tasty, but I do still prefer sausage or pepperoni on my pizza. I was quoted 45 minutes for my delivery, and they were right on time! And they delivered right to my hotel room. Very convenient for me! read more

New to the area and went based on referral. Pizza was amazing , the one with chicken and white sauce is my favorite- forgot the name of it! Like the other Mac Rivers around. Love the Greek salad, and the pizza. I like the rancher, flathead or any of them really. I get the original crust, which is herby and delicious. Get a beer or a glass of wine too. I enjoy getting a local Montana beer or two with my meal. The lodge poles are great as an app but not necessary for two people. Throughout the state, Mackenzie's are pretty consistent and great place for visitors or locals. read more

This place came recommended by a friend and thought we would give it a try while driving through town. We were on a time constraint so ordered our food the minute the waitress came to our table, we waited 45 minutes for a salad, sandwich, wrap, two pastas and a kids pizza. Our waitress was working her tail off the kitchen meanwhile was not. We finally had to ask for our food to go, the kitchen still hadn't finished all the food so our waitress had to leave all of her tables to get our food packed up. She even had to pull the pizza out of the oven and get it cut and packed. Truly have no idea what the multiple kitchen staff was doing. The food was fine, but hard to truly enjoy while shoving it in our face in the car. We would have had an equally enjoyable meal going through a drive thru. If they are understaffed then they should not seat people so that the food service can keep up. However I'm not sure this was the case, as a table seated after ours finished their food and paid before we got ours to go. read more

The smell of this restaurant is soo inviting! The second you open the door you begin to salivate as the rich Italian aromas excite every taste bud! The food was amazing and the portions were HUGE! The Cowboy Nachos were amazing and big enough to make an entire meal for two. The Cheese Ravioli was very tasty as well. This is the third time that we've placed a to go order and was told 30 minutes only to arrive and have to wait another 30 minutes in the lobby while they are clearly just starting to cook the food. This is a good spot to get pizza and a salad. It's a chain, and my first visit, but I found it to be a great place for lunch. I had a veggie pizza with a salad. I sat out on the patio, and the waiter was very quick to refill my water. I was very thirsty that day, and the refills were very welcome! Normally when I visit any Montana town that has a MacKenzie River, it's always a good option. Tonight in Helena was the exception to always feeling like it's high quality with thoughtful and considerate servers. When we first arrived we had to wait for seating and it seemed there was confusion on who was handling the seating. Once seated, our server took our drink order and then our food order. We all ordered pizza and three of us ordered a house salad with creamy vinaigrette. When our pizza's arrived we had not yet received our salads and found out the server put the order in for the salad dressing to be put on our pizza, so we had two small pizzas with house vinaigrette on them and no salad. She seemed confused that we had ordered salad and said, oh I thought you just ordered salad dressing for your pizza. So we got our salads. We had one person who ordered a sandwich with fries and received chips instead, so had to reorder his fries. For the most part, except for my soggy pizza this would all be forgivable - however it was evident the servers attention was very much on the table next to us of young men who she repeatedly returned to talk to as she was visiting each table. I am guessing had she not been distracted by her table of friends, this order would have gone much more smoothly. I would recommend better training servers that customers notice this type of distraction and in this case it made a huge difference in the quality of our of!order. Thank you read more

On top of this said my meal didn't count towards the benefit because I didn't have some paper with me. Who the hell has some piece of paper when we have the email on our phones?? When I arrived to pick up my to-go order, they claimed someone had called to cancel my order. So, I waited 25 minutes in the parking lot for them to prepare my pizza. But when I opened the pizza box at home, I realized that THEY FORGOT TO ADD SAUCE on the pizza. How can you make two significant mistakes with the same order?? I had the Sonoran Steak wrap, horrible, didn't eat much of the first half as it just tasted bad, I opened the other half and it didn't have a fork full of steak in it. Even the beer wasn't that cold. We had one child at our table and his pizza came before the salads. We go out to eat as a family we want to eat together as a family. The server said she'd check with the kitchen about the salads but wasn't sure they could get the salads out. The Caesar salad was not good at all and the blue cheese wedge wasn't good either. Not once did the server come over to check on us. We had to request refills on our drinks. Walked out after not getting our pizza in over an hour. We came from out of state. Quite literally a salad on top of a pizza. Sheesh, the pictures look so good but trust me that is not what you get. I ordered the Clubhouse pie and what I got was a baked crust and then a bunch of lettuce drenched in dressing plopped right on top. (see pictures). And this was some seriously dressed lettuce far beyond offensively. The Bistro pizza didn't venture to transform into a salad (thank goodness). But it had a lot going on: olive oil, garlic, bleu cheese, pears, proscuitto, more glaze, etc. I mean the crust was good if it were actually a cheesy bread. But once you add a topping or two it's truly just waaay too much. Needless to say, both these pizzas were very heavy. Not for the light of heart. I think a small mom and pop artisan bistro with a private garden in the back would have pulled off fancy pies a tad bit better, don't you think? The end result just tasted like the cook piled and piled on toppings and sauces. Order up! I feel like maybe we should have had a modest soup or a salad for a safer bet. I have been here many times growing up. I was home over the weekend visiting my parents and my mom and I decided to go Black Friday shopping. We swung in for a quick lunch and ordered all you can eat salad soup and breadsticks. We both ordered the chicken chili. We had to wait forever to even get our salad that was brown and slimy. I'm not one to complain so I moved on to the soup. The soup was only slightly warm. We had to wait again forever to get our drinks refilled. We ended up going to the counter to pay because we didn't want to have to wait even longer for the check. This place has really gone downhill since I have last been in. I will not be returning. I've been here a few times while visiting Helena and I really wish this place had been around when I lived there. Not that I would have stuck around. Just sayin'. We started off with the obligatory order of lodgepoles (their fancy name for breadstick appetizers). This time they had a new pesto kind in addition to the regular kind, so we ordered both. They came out really quick. Both plates emptied about the same time, so no complaints there. Their pizza is great - they use the perfect amount of sauce. This time I ordered one with sun dried tomatoes, pesto, and artichokes on a thin crust. Tasty. A salad with pears and sprinkled with Grapenuts was good too. Some guys at our table ordered one with about 87 different kinds of meat and seemed to really enjoy it. A bite of their taco pizza was surprising good. The atmosphere is nice and the place always seems to have a good amount of tables occupied. If you go with a group, request the back booths if they're available. Tall walls give the impression you're in your own little room. The decor is modern west (the kind that tourists want to see and the route that many restaurants and hotels seem to be taking these days.) It is tastefully done though with some nice accent pieces. Service is typical of a pizza joint. If you're expecting more than that, you'll probably be disappointed. read more

Everyone likes this place and it is very popular with the locals. Lots of inside dining but a little too much AC for me. They serve an interesting array of pizzas and a good salad. I always got more than I could eat with an individual pizza. They have some great waitstaff but an unusual unthemed decor that can't really make up its mind what kind of place this is. This is great for groups and kids although I think the prices are a little steep. Check this place out as I feel it is one of the better pizza places in town and you can get a unique beer to wash it down with. read more

Dont bother putting an online order in. Did an online order today. Got my confirmation amd showed up at the expected time only to find out their online ordering is "hit or miss". They may or may not get it, even if you get a confirmation email. They know this is happening. I guess putting a warning on their site would be too convenient or helpful. Since I am from California, I have tried and sampled pizzas from California Pizza Kitchen, and I can honestly say I'm over it. Screw "gourmet" pizza, I want something more traditional. Fortunately for me, MacKenzie River Pizza Co. offers both the traditional and the gourmet, and I was able to find a happy medium between the two. My husband and I split a large "Rancher" pizza, described as "Mozzarella, ground beef, pepperoni, bacon, tomatoes, red onions and green peppers". It was an excellent choice and we were both very full off just splitting that pizza. I also had a nice local beer with my meal so I was a happy camper by the end of the evening. Will definitely visit a location again when in Montana and/or the Pacific Northwest. read more

Good food and efficient! Try the Cobb salad, its one of the better ones that i've eaten. The portions are perfect, a decent size but not so big that you leave a food coma.
