Emma waitress was efficient and courteous. The hostess recommended the pizza of the day on thin crust, Sequoia, which we ordered. It was very good, however, you can see from the picture that our sun dried tomatoes were burned to charcoal! In retrospect, we shouldn't have accepted burned, crispy sun dried tomatoes. However we were anxious to get on the road. The house salad with pears and crunches was delicious. We've been to many of these parlors throughout Montana and have never been disappointed. We were having a hard time finding somewhere to eat in Helena on a Saturday night. The places we looked up on our Garmin were out of business! Since we are from out of state we wanted to go somewhere we could not go to back in DFW and ran across MacKenzie River Pizza Co. We saw many cars in the parking lot so figured it must be good and cars in the lot usually don't lie! I honestly don't remember what kind of pizza we had because they have some unusual concoctions which made it hard to decide. I do know we had a thin crust and our pizza was super good. Salsa was very good and quick to get to our table. The salsa had a nice kick but could have been diced up more finely, I'm not a fan of huge chunks. The pizza was amazing! The best thing I've had here was the Nachos for an appetizer, we also tried the Stockman Pizza which wasn't so bad, it was eatable. Great pizza for a reasonable price! I ordered the Cheesesteak pizza and it had the right amount of cheese, sauce, meat, and veggies. Usually cheesesteak pizzas I've ordered before taste a bit salty, but their pizza had the perfect amount of salt. The ambiance was relax and quiet, mind you it was 3pm. The lodgepoles were 'meh.' Honestly, they brought back those childhood memories of Chuck E. Cheese breadsticks. Never having those again. Loved the decor at this place!! Felt like I was in a cabin in the woods. Booths were generously larger than normal. Clean restaurant and ladies bathroom (with the exception of a pesky fly). Our waitress was prompt and friendly. She gave suggestions on what to try. She refilled our drinks quickly. It wasn't busy at all, mind you it was 3pm. Overall good experience and would definitely try this place again! read more

I would never write a negative review just because of an employee incident, but when it's stated that the poor service is the owners policy, people need to know. Picture this; about 20 people waiting in line to pick-up pizza they ordered by phone or on-line (due to Covid) with zero social distancing. Two registers, but only one employee. They are busy, we all understood. Next the loan cashier repeatedly trolls the line looking for those that ordered on line, and took care of them next. Phone in people waited. After 15+ minutes standing shoulder to shoulder, an on line person walks in and she pulls him out of the line and gives him his pizza, and we wait. Then she trolls the line again for on line people. I asked what about us phone in people, and she proudly replied "they paid in advance, it's faster this way"! When she could find no more on line people, she took a few phone in customers from the line, at least until another on line person came in, then we were all back to waiting. Pizza finally received... cold, and I wont go back. Will probably tell this story 20-30 times, it was that unacceptable. Moral of the story; if they are busy and you paid in advance, you will have priority at pick-up. If you are phoning in, you will be second class, and that is their policy. Went here the first night I was in Helena for work. I loved the interior decor of this location. We had to wait about 30 minutes to get a table but it just shows you how popular this location is on a weekday in the summer. We had a large party and they got everyones order right and were very quick about making sure everything was out in time and all fresh and that everyone was happy with what they were eating. The service was good like most of my experiences at this chain but this one did seem a little bit more original or bigger, I can't put my finger on it exactly but it did have a little different look to it, sort of. Takes forever to even get a drink and about 45 minutes to get food. Wasn't too busy and it took forever to get our check and then to actually pay. Literally don't go unless you want to spend most of your evening there. Its very difficult to find a place that's makes pizza consistent every visit. MacKenzie does, we have eaten there on 3 different occasions and the za is always solid. I prefer the thin crust, my wife likes the original. The ingredients always seem fresh and good. This is especially true with the Canadian ham, best I have ever had. The sauce is good and just the right amount. The bad...the pick up wait has always been around 35-45 min, and the delivery could be around 1hr 45min. The wings need help, one time they were delicious and the next they were soggy and garbage. We ordered buffalo both times. At the end of the day, it's a solid pizza and nice place to eat. We usually get great food to go but not the last 2 times. The first time our pizza was made incorrectly. Last night we ordered 2 sandwiches with a wait time of 30 minutes. When we got there the first sandwich was made, the second one was not. Nobody seemed bothered that the order was not ready. By the time we got home with the sandwiches, the first one was soggy and ice cold. The second was bbq that was so watery that the bun was complete mush to where you couldnt and didnt want to eat it. This is Food grade material and provides calories, this is beyond question. We had the Thai wings, which were soggy on delivery and unremarkable, and a Large Pizza "the Bistro". Large is about 14", I was expecting 16", and the crust was still doughy. If what you want is Food grade material with plenty of calories this place has it and will deliver for a nominal fee of $1.50. We chose this place based on reviews here on Yelp, and a recommendation from a co-worker. The restaurant itself is nice - decor, comfy booths, noise level all great. Unfortunately the food doesn't live up to the space. We had a couple of apps - "lodgepoles" (a ridiculous name for breadsticks) - had a pesto and mozz topping. They were about as white-bready as you can get - squishy, flavorless, really bleh. We also shared their version of the artichoke cheese dip - very liquidy unlike other places, came with toasted slices of baguette. This was very tasty. I made the mistake of asking how they made it later - basically pesto sauce and alfredo sauce mixed together with a few veggies thrown in. It was tasty, but not something you'd want to eat a lot of. We got some salads, my Caesar was bland and uninspiring, although the romaine was nice and fresh. Even the croutons were white-bready and bland. Onto the pizzas. Four of us split two smalls - ours was a meaty pizza, hamburg, pepperoni, a couple of other things. The crust is terrible - obviously a conveyor-belt pie, complete with the ridges on the bottom of the crust from the belt. I didn't want to eat more than one piece - the sauce was not good, and it had an overwhelming "smoky" flavor that wiped out any other flavor. The other half of our group got a veggie-based pie , and had similar comments regarding the crust, and also noted that it had very little flavor, especially considering the ingredients. Knew nothing about this place, I am from Arizona, but saw the good reviews and decided to give it a try for a family gathering. We were not disappointed. We had lunch at MacKenzie for our large group of about 25. We were seated in their party room off to one side of the restaurant where we had our own server. I had a pizza delivered last night from this place. It was recommended by the hotel and it was excellent. Ordered the Good O'l Boy on a thin crust. That is what they call the pepperoni pizza. Also got a side of Rollerino or something like that. pepperoni, cheese and sauce rolled up into a thin bread stick with marinara sauce. That was also very good. Had a side salad instead of pears on mine i requested pepperoni and they subbed with no problem. The menu does not have prices on it nor does it mention delivery. But they do. Best pizza in Helena? Ate the same thing at this place once weekly while living in Helena. Hot Hawaiian with extra sauce and add honey (trust me) and the House Salad with house dressing. Consistently good and reasonably priced. Plus they are pretty much the only place in town that delivers on a Sunday :) read more
