Well this place is the worst I ever experience. Filthy combs not taken care of between uses. Left in dirty drawers. Ask barber to not take off the top twice. First thing they do is start taking off the top excessively. Had to ask them to stop. Barber next to me using hair dryer to blow his area clean kicking up hair and dirt that I had to sit thru which is ridiculous. Then barber says he is sick coughing on me then saying he should of stayed home. Gave me a terrible haircut taking too much off the top. Couple days later felt pimples on my scalp. I highly recommend Oksana's work here. She is very intuitive, professional and skilled at her craft. I started coming by accident when my old barber left Mackhard and I was surprised and nervous when I saw I would be with a new barber. She does not speak much English, but she communicates well through her translator app, and once she was done she had me sold. She did not just give me the haircut I wanted but also the one I needed. I went in for a beard trim and a straight razor shave. Very happy with my overall experience. Booked my appointment very easily online through their website and Booksy. Preface: to the people complaining about appointments not being on time; this is a barber shop, not super cuts. The barbers/stylists do not care about getting you in and out in 30 minutes, they care about giving you a professional haircut. If that's a problem for you, barber shops should not be your preference. I had one of those haircuts that took 45 minutes and my guy Ant gave me the best low bald fade I've had in years. The reason it took 45 minutes was because the person I was using before cut multiple cowlicks into my head, telling me they were unavoidable. Funny, Ant got rid of them on his first go. I've been to the Downers Grove location many times and I found this location bigger and more accommodating. Was a few minutes late to my appointment due to traffic conditions. Barber had already taken another client. And told me to wait an hour , which wasnt a big deal. Came back 50 minutes later to be told i would have to wait another hour. I have been getting cuts at mackhard since the owner himself was cutting my hair as a kid. I drive over an hour to get here, and I will not be coming back. 25% tips for 15 years means nothing if you are a couple minutes late. read more

If you do not find your desired barber at a time you need, call the shop to check if they are actually unavailable. Wanted to try this place...made an appointment for 1 hour after they opened. I arrived on time, no one acknowledged me when I walked in, I finally interrupted one of the barbers to ask if I needed to check in or something, was told "I'm running a little behind, give me a couple minutes." (How are you behind just an hour after you open?!) 10 minutes after my appointment time he finished up the guy in his chair..and then took another customer in front of me! 15 minutes later he was just starting to shave that customer so I gave up and left. read more

I have to say that the haircuts I have received here have always been neat and professional. The experience I have had here so far has been great. My classic haircut for 25 dollars has been worth it. Anne has been the hair stylist that has been cutting my hair here and she does a great job. Prior to coming to Mackhard I have tried several other barbershops in the area. The service was adequate, but the other barbers did not make my hair look like I wanted it. Anne has always cut and styled my hair to look not only neat and trim but also appealing. After reading tons of reviews about Ant I trusted sitting in his chair would be a no brainer. Unfortunately I was wrong. I showed him a picture of how I wanted my beard trimmed and let him have at it. When I opened my eyes I was in shock. I had grown out my beard for over a year and he took it down to 1 month's growth. It was nothing like I asked on top of the fact that it was unevenly cut. He even asked another person if it looked even. At the end he told me my beard was tricky, that's when I knew he had screwed it up. I would never recommend going to him for anything beard related. The haircut was fine but this was THE WORST beard trim I have ever experienced. a years worth of growth in the tubes thanks to this guy. I was pawned off to the new guy, had a conversation with him about the cut and what I wanted. It took 3 try's for him to get my fade right which is not a very difficult cut to do, then I had to have him re do the top twice. I finally gave up and said thanks and left... got home showered and found the top was cut so badly! I had multiple spots in the side of my head and back where my hair was 1-1 1/2 inches long and the others much shorter. Would not recommend this place to anyone!!! read more

We are 0 for 2 with this place. I heard so many great reviews of the Downers Grove location that I expected it to be the same. The first time my 15 yr old went, he got a line put in his eyebrows and not by choice. I was just thinking he would get a shave and haircut because of the description and came back like that. Haircut wasn't bad but then yesterday, the guy completely cut it down to like almost a buzz. Mind you that my kid has that teen longer on top hair and fights us to cut the top hair at all. They turn you around so you can't see what is going on. Don't waste your money! read more

If I can give negative stars, I would. Do not recommend! This has been the worst experience ever in a barbershop. Made an appointment online, wasn't sure who I was getting, didn't really matter as I needed a haircut badly that morning. I arrived on time and waited 25 minutes to be seen. Once I was in the chair I told the guy (Ant) exactly what I wanted. Clean around the ears, leave the length on top so that I could comb it over. Didn't really care to understand what I was looking for, after five minutes in the chair he turned me around and asked if that was good enough. I explained again exactly what I was looking for, and he proceeded to cut my hair extremely short. Yes it will grow back again, but that's not the point. After I realized what he had done I asked him to wrap it up, that we were done. He proceeded to tell me that I needed to check my tone with him or we can step outside. He followed up by pushing me off the chair. There were five other hairdressers and their customers listening and witnessing what was taking place, and no one said anything. I've never felt so embarrassed or threatened in my life. He then followed me outside as I walked to my car. I was in disbelief that he actually followed me as if prepared to fight. This is Naperville y'all. I called the business asked for the manager and spoke to her regarding the situation and asked for the owner to call me. It's been now two weeks since the incident and no phone call from the owner. This is completely unacceptable behavior. Stay away from this place or stay away from Ant. read more
