You never realize how much you rely on modern conveniences until your water heater goes out. Suddenly your house becomes a Mad Max style post-apocalyptic landscape. Everything and everyone is filthy, dirty dishes sit in fetid piles around the kitchen, and none of the white laundry can be done or it'll smell weird. Just before I was prepared to make a crude spear out of a mop handle and a kitchen knife to hunt with, our home owners policy assigned our work order to the good fellows at Maclin plumbing. Despite being busy, Matt and Jerry were able to come out that evening to assess the situation. Unfortunately, due to our water heater being under warranty, they were unable to do any work or install a new one without a massive cost. They were kind enough to encourage us to run the water heater to ground and take it to Home Depot, and realizing we didn't have the vehicles capable of hauling a water heater to and from the store, offered to meet us to help get it back home. The fact they were insistent that we don't pay more money than we had to was a big selling point for me. After acquiring the replacement, Jerry came on a Saturday several hours after their end of business. Within an hour he had not only installed the new heater, but had also brought most of the previous homeowners shoddy work up to code. Quick and professional, I'll likely hit up Maclin again with any plumbing situations I can't handle myself. read more

Dumb and Dumber. I cant even begin to say how inept and unprofessional these 2 jokers are... don't be fooled by their website. They have 1 guy "manning" the phone, and only 1 plumber. They failed to keep their scheduled time, and then when they did arrive, they did not have the tools or equipment to complete the job. 8/ 29/2014 * ATTN YELPERS!!! It seems you spend more time writing on yelp* and refuting reviews than actual good customer service. Instead of reaching out after the fact, it might be a good idea to just take care of people who contact you in good faith. I didn't bother to respond because I had another local reputable company come out, and they took care of the issue the same day. I will use them anytime I have any issues going forward. I don't know about the home warranty service you are talking about, but it seems you would want to provide the best customer service to anyone who contacted you regardless. There are always going to be plumbing issues not covered by a warranty or insurance, i.e. cash payments, and you guys are just missing the boat. read more

These Guy's Absolutely Rock !! I have a handful of rental properties and I carry a home warranty thru American Homeshield so I'm stuck with who they send. Having said that over the years and various properties MacLin has been sent out many times.. Always on time, Always professional, I'm always more than satisfied. I had MacLin come to my home on two different occasions. Both times they were hired by my home warranty company to handle a repair. Do not use these people. The water heater that they installed wasn't working and they wouldn't come out to look at it even though it's under warranty. They are unreliable and they don't stand behind their work. Since they wouldn't honor their warranty I called another plumber and found out that they had installed a low consumption heater that's more expensive, $1070 instead of the $400 regular water heater. It took me a while to want to sit down and write this as I was not sure if it would help out anyone or not. Maclin was assigned to me through my warranty company. My hot water heater was leaking and needed to be replaced. I thought they were going to come out and fix it immediately instead they told me that they had to send the estimate in to the warranty company for approval. The warranty company called me back after a few days and told me that in addition to the water heater and what was covered that Macklin was claiming that it would cost an extra $1000 to fix the problem that was not covered by the warranty. They told the warranty company that the unit was not off the floor it was not in a closed off area and there was no vent. All of which was not true. I asked them to send out a different company for a new estimate and a new company came back with just the price of the water heater which the warranty company covered. Based on my experience I would say Maclin is a scam company, I know they tried to scam me. After this experience I read some of their other reviews for Maclin. It was not at all surprising about how many negative reviews they are getting. I was surprised about the positive ones however, but if you read them closely, they really do not jibe with the ones that are written by real people. Almost all of the ones there are good reviews you can tell by the style of writing are written by the same person or a bot that Maclin is paying to boost their ratings. We had a great experience from the moment MacLin called to schedule an appointment. They responded in a timely manner, very professional. Came out to the job and never completed the items on the schedule. Was told they would have to come back another day with new parts and to complete the order. Never received a call back/re-schedule and still a few weeks later I am waiting for the job to be completed. The plumber even said that their doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the toilets, when they continue to stop up. His comment was maybe you should get new toilets, even though they were all replaced in the last 5 years. Doesn't seem like a good company or one that can be trusted. read more

MacLin Plumbing will be my #1 contact for plumbing and related services from now on. This is the third service call provided by MacLin, specifically Jerry, and he always brings a wealth of knowledge, professionalism, competence, efficiency and quality to the job. Jerry has replaced a water heater and a garbage disposal, and most recently repaired a water leak in the slab. Matt worked closely with Jerry to repair the leak and they were able to cap the leak and reroute the water line in a very timely fashion. Working together they completed the tasks much quicker than I had anticipated and insured the new line worked properly and would be protected from freezing weather. These two gentlemen worked well together to solve my problem, explained what they had done, and cleaned up once the job was completed. And thanks to James on the scheduling/dispatching end, I was able to get the repairs completed promptly. Replaced leaking hot water heater. After having the case for a week arrived and said that there would be an additional $300 charge to bring it up to Texas Code. There is no Texas Plumbing Code. Called AHS for plumbing repairs. This is the first company to ever respond to service request within a few hours. Courteous phone rep contacted me and I was given a two-hour window for service the next morning. Repairman called before that window to say he was on his way and despite horrible weather arrived right away. The first punctual AHS maintenance visit I've received in 5 years. Polite, professional and quick to diagnose. Even more efficient on repairs (two of them). Went above and beyond to offer several extremely helpful homeowner maintenance steps. I would recommend this team to anyone. Super easy, stress free, and professional experience. read more

Beware of this company! We had an issue with a leaking toilet. They came out for the quote, said that it was going to take two different contractors to complete the job, and could take up to two days. Because of the size and time that they said the job would take, they quoted an extremely high price of $2,450 for this job. This was a big cost for us, but we trusted them that it was a difficult job, and went forward with it. When they came for the job, they sub contracted out to one contractor who did the entire job in LESS THAN AN HOUR AND A HALF. In and out. Not two days. Not two contractors. I was extremely upset, and felt deceived. When I tried to have a level headed conversation with James from customer service, and Jerry the owner, they were unbelievably rude and jumped directly to the fact that they were going to call the police and put a lien on my home if I didn't pay the bill. I was blown away by how they were treating me like a criminal for feeling like I had been completely deceived and taken advantage of. Matt - the co owner - was the only level headed person I spoke with over there. I ended up just paying them, because I didn't have the time or energy to deal with it. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. They came out quickly and completed the job. The plumber had 18 years experience and I feel did a good job. My problem is their pricing. They came out for the estimate and said they have to dig 6" down to replace this cut off valve and this was the price. I had called another plumber and was given a quote similar without looking at the site. The plumber arrived and I started a stopwatch. He was complete in less than 1 hour. I requested a itemized receipt for parts and labor. Parts $32.50, Labor for 1 hour $440. This is with a 10% discount. Feeling very gouged. :( read more

For anyone who might be interested. Things finally got settled with Maclin. Even though their BBB story was B.S. and all they are good at is not doing the job correctly , being rude and lying my credit car company today made my charge back against them permanent because they did not do the job correct and I had to get someone else out there to fix their shoddy work. Response to Maclin's last post: Jerry and Maclin are nothing but a bunch of liars. They did not prove to American Home Shield that it was not their fault. AHS offered me a refund but I refused when they said that they would not get it back from Maclin. And the credit card company charged back Maclin when I disputed the charge, told them what happened and actually provided proof that Maclin was at fault. I have added a picture to the Maclin profile of the letter I got from my credit card company to prove that Maclin was charged back and I got my money from them. And finally I am still working with the BBB about what Maclin did. Maclin has ZERO credibility and it is easily proven when three out of four of the most recent reviews posted about them were negative and one star. That is a whopping 75% dissatisfaction rate with Maclin. Which proves what a horrible company they are!!! Jerry now responded two more times to this post. Isn't it amazing how they have so many one star reviews and they respond to all of them claiming that the problem in never with them it is always with the customer. And it is even funnier now that I produced proof that what he said was not true and now he is not even mentioning it? Jerry just tried to obfuscate the facts. But this is what Maclin does with every bad review they get, they are never wrong. To me, without a doubt, Maclin is the worst company I have every dealt with in any industry. I do not have a lot of experience with plumbers, thankfully, so this review is based solely on the experience I had this morning. But hopefully it helps someone who's faced with the pages and pages of listings for plumbers and needs to make an informed decision. Our garbage disposal started leaking through the bottom on Monday evening, indicating the seals had given out. We have a home warranty through AHS and after filling out the online service request were given MacLin Plumbing as our service provider. Not knowing anything about them, I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. Jerry the dispatcher called on Tuesday morning and said they could have someone out that day, but the first opportunity I was available was Wednesday morning. They scheduled the appointment for 10 am on Wednesday. At 9:15 Jerry, called and said Matt would be there shortly after 10, and at 10:03, he arrived. A good start for sure. Matt immediately diagnosed the problem as a bad disposer and went back to the truck for a replacement, no questions asked or any indication that it was going to be a problem. He worked quickly, efficiently, and as an added bonus was able to carry on a very pleasant current-events conversation even while replumbing the sink. He made all the necessary repairs, and actually made the sink drain better than it did before. After about an hour, the job was done, paid for, and packed up. All in all, a very pleasant experience, which is saying something when you're talking about plumbers. I hope I don't need to call a plumber again anytime soon, but if I do, MacLin is first on my list. read more

Okay, I had a water leak at a pressure relief valve and called MacLin again to see what could be done. Not only did they fit me in, same day, they evaluated the issue and determined the issue AND that the hot water heater was defective and needed to be replaced. they gave me a price for the work to be performed and told me exactly how to place a warranty call for the bad water heater. The next day, after I was able to get a warranty replacement water heater, they came out and installed it and addressed the original valve issue. Unfortunately, the issue was not completely resolved as they then determined the pressure regulator at the street was defective and also needed to be replaced. They scheduled another visit for the following day and completed the work while I was out. I cannot thank them enough for being responsive and a true value for the prices they charge. Again they completed a few other minor projects and did not charge me extra for those fixes. I recomend them for your plumbing work. read more

STAY AWAY!!! AHS clients beware. They were sent to us through our home warranty company, American Home Shield. I really really regret not just finding a good local plumber myself. We had a problem with a our main drainage line on the side of my house where our two bathrooms are. They sent somebody out here to snake the line. After he was not able to snake the line (because he said he couldn't get the snake to go the right direction???) he dug a giant hole on the side of my house looking for clean out valve that I did not have. After that he said the problem must be on the my connection to the city sewer line so dug an 10 feet wide hole on the complete opposite side of my house and said the problem was an old pipe there. But wait, why was i only have issues on the other side of my hosue, that must not be problem i said. I asked if they could please just try to snake the line to which his reply was "I've never been able to do something like that. If you want that done you should call another plumber". So now 2 hours later my yard is completely torn up because of the 2 useless holes he dug for no reason, my drain line is still clogged, and hes telling me if i want it fixed i have to call a different plumber. And I had to pay for that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE WORST SERVICE ever. p.s. for the record, I called another plumbing company who was able to come out and had the problem fixed in an hour. read more

We were referred to MacLin Plumbing by another plumber. We were hesitant after reading some of the reviews here, but our experience with MacLin Plumbing was great. We had a toilet acting up even after repeated snaking (by myself). We called MacLin and were able to schedule a visit for the following day. Jerry arrived on time and diagnosed the problem almost immediately. We opted to have the toilet replaced, which Jerry and and an assistant were able to do a few days later. They were in and out in a matter of minutes, and we were invoiced for the same price that we were quoted before booking the job. We have a brand new toilet that looks great, and is more efficient than the old one (and arguably better than anything offered by the big box stores). read more

One evening I heard water flowing in the bathroom sink. I just thought it was the air conditioner, however it was not. I used my home warranty repair company, ONEguard who sent a work order to MacLin. I got a call that morning that they would be out that afternoon. Jerry was kind, professional, knowledgeable. He knew right away what the issue was. The hot water was leaking into the slab. He made a new hot water heater valve so I didn't have to run out to the pump house to turn all the water off. I could still use the cold water. After I got another company to pull out the vanity, I scheduled Jerry and his coworker next available which was the next day. Unbelievable turn around time!! They showed up on time, professionally dressed, calm, worked great together. Walked through and explained what they did, etc. A LOT of work done in a few hours. Teamwork and extensive knowledge. I can't thank these guys enough. Highly recommended and I will use them again. read more

I got lucky on a warranty service call since it was assigned to MacLin. The ticket for a troublesome toliet. Matt was in the area and resolved my issue quickly. He diagnosed the problem as a likely backed up main line and sure enough he was right. The house in question was a brand new rental for me and a different (to be nameless) plummer had installed a water softener less than a week before and there was an issue with the water softener install. Even though the warranty ticket was written up for the toliet/clogged main line, Matt of MacLin also fixed the issue with the water sofener. I have a new favorite plummer - MacLin. read more

The next day, he showed back up with new water heater and replaced it. Junior did a fantastic job and was very timely as well. Poor customer service! James came out to our house for a scheduled service. I received a call at 10:15AM that he was on his way and we should expect him in about 30 minutes. James arrived at 11:59AM. To his credit, he apologized for being late due to heavy traffic on I35. I explained to him the plumbing issues we were having to which he responded somewhat frustrated and said "there must have been a miscommunication with the dispatcher." He quickly made his recommendation for a certain plumbing test. I began to ask questions to educate myself about the plan of action that he was recommending. I verbalized some of my questions and concerns that about what he was recommending. James had no patience or tolerance for my needs to understand the service that I was going to purchase. Within less than two minutes into our conversation, he responded "it sounds like you know more than me, so tell me what you want me to do and I will do it!" At this point, I told him to forget it and I was not going to need his services. I called the dispatcher and informed him how James had acted and what he had said. Although the dispatcher was nice, his immediate response was to explain the rationale behind the plumbing test that James was recommending... I do not support the immature and unprofessional behavior of the plumber who came to our house today. For this reason, I strongly recommend against using this company for your plumbing needs. read more

Rebuilt 2 toilets with new parts and offered me some helpful tips while there, I was happy with the service tech they sent out... my only issue is that the window of arrival was 1-3pm and when 3pm had come and gone I had to call the dispatch office and ask if someone was still coming out to my house! He told me the tech had to stop and buy the parts for my job... which is fine but would it have hurt them to make ONE phone call to let me know so I didn't sit around waiting? Either way good service, reasonable price, but maybe not the best customer service when it comes to setting up appointments. For quality of work I may use them again. read more

He made the repair on the wrong bathroom and after my father brought this to his attention, Charged an additional $250 to repair the correct bathroom.I called to speak with the office manager and nothing was resolved, as his employee had a whole different story. My mother contacted these guys a few weeks ago to fix a leaky toilet and said she was impressed with the service so I thought I give them a call to help me by installing a new bathroom sink. At 12:30 on the day the sink was to be installed, I was still stuck at work (I work at UT and live in far south Austin) and was still unable to get away from the office when they called to tell me the 'technician' would be there in 30 minutes. I tried to explain to the dispatcher that I'd been caught at work later than expected and told him it would take me 45 minutes to an hour to get home depending on traffic and asked him to have the 'technician' wait 15 or 20 minutes. At this, the dispatcher told me, "Sir we're busy. He can't wait for you." I asked why I should be expected to give them a two hour time window in addition to the fact that I'm having to take half a day off from work to have all this done, yet he can't ask his guy to wait 15 or 20 minutes. To this, he responded, "Do you want the service or not?" Not. I do customer support for a living. I also know that sometimes things are beyond your control and you're not always able to leave the office when you expect to. Clearly though, these guys not only don't care about providing a decent service but they also expect their customers to be waiting eagerly on their every word. My home warranty company is American Home Shield. When we woke up yesterday morning we had no hot water. Upon checking the water heater we found water in the drain pan at the bottom. I ordered service and they assigned MacLin Plumbing. They came out and "BRAIN FART" we need a new water heater. DUH! I asked the technician to phone in the diagnosis while he was at my house. He refused and said the dispatcher James did that job. This morning James called and scheduled an install on Monday morning. American Home Shield won't transfer it to another vendor because Maclin has ordered the water heater but they still haven't phoned in the diagnosis. Maclin Plumbing is gaming the system and American Home Shield is letting them get away with it. read more

This company was foisted on me by American Home Shield to fix a leak at my home. MacLin Plumbing did not diagnose the problem. They did not fix the problem. They did not return as promised. The did not call back as promised. They did not return my numerous phone calls. They did not communicate with AHS. They only thing MacLin DID do was extract $75 from me for their "service". When MacLin finally called me (several days later after I had the problem fixed by a reputable company) the rep hung up on me mid complaint. Terrible company. The only thing they are good at is giving customers the runaround. read more
