I was really ready to love this place. They have great reviews and they're close to home! But no. I have an eight year old Mac Pro and I wanted to upgrade the processor. There are four options currently available. After much research, I decided on the one that would suit my workflow best. Alas, this shop had a different one in stock and they refused to install anything else. They did it for $450 flat and had it done in a matter of days. TL;DR: bought a refurbed laptop here, all was good, until it wasn't, and then I was without a usable laptop for two weeks and lost all my data. Bought a refurbished MacBook Air here about nine months ago to replace my ten-year-old MacBook Pro. Service was great, they upgraded the storage capacity on the laptop and transferred my data over. Smooth sailing. Two weeks ago, I was using my laptop when it suddenly shut down. When I turned it back on, it was locked with a 4-digit passcode. I had never seen this nor had I set a passcode like this on any of my computers. Without the code I can't do anything. MacPro-LA's website says they are closed due to COVID, but can schedule appointments over the phone. So, I call and leave three different messages over the course of five days, with no response. I take it to a different Mac repair shop, who tell me there's no way to fix it without finding the password or wiping the whole hard drive.  I then spend some time on the phone with Apple Support, but all the Apple Stores are closed due to COVID. I go to MacPro-LA in person to see if anyone's there. I walk in and Ray says "I talked to you on the phone right?" Nope! He tells me I must have set the password myself and just forgotten about it. I know I didn't do this. My iCloud was not hacked either. Apple Support told me it sounded like the previous owner had set the passcode. Ray will not acknowledge that this is a possibility. But he will fix it and says my data will be fine. He calls me later to say that it's fixed, but the drive is blank and my data is all gone. Upset by this news, I go to pick it up, he boots it up and it's still locked with a passcode. Okay, they will have to send it in to Apple for repair. I leave again.  Days later, I go back to pick it up. I ask for some record of them sending it to Apple and what work was done. Ray says they didn't do that, they just fixed it in-house. Weird. He still says I must have set the passcode myself and forgot. I said I don't think that ever happened, he shrugs. While I appreciate that they are still providing service when many places are closed, and that they eventually "solved" the issue without charging me, I did not feel good about having my messages ignored for a week, then being talked down to and misled. I'm not an expert, but I'm not stupid about computers. Just admitting that there might have been an issue when you sold it to me, or that it could have been a fluke and not something I screwed up, would have gone a long way. Ultimately I have lost a lot of data that wasn't backed up (learned that lesson, obviously) and am nervous this all might randomly happen again someday. I would advise against buying a used computer here if you can help it. read more

I had a really old G4 macbook from 2000s that wouldn't start anymore but I needed to access the data. So I took it to mac pro and they really tried to retrieve it but it was too old and damaged. As they promised, they didn't charge unless they can retrieve the data successfully. I know they worked hard on it so it was appreciated. Anyway they were still helpful in pulling out and giving me the hard drive and recommending a different date company to hack into it. I had some accidental liquid damage to my computer. It wouldn't even turn on. When I took it to Apple, they quoted me around $700, and suggested I simply get a new computer. MacPro did a free diagnostic and was able to save everything on my computer for a much lower price. A few months later, I was having some sporadic screen glitching issues. I took it back and they replaced the display. When the issue wasn't totally solved, they took back my computer and found the root cause (and fixed it!) without any additional cost. Every employee I encountered was very personable and kind. All in all, I spent far less with MacPro than I would have either fixing my computer via Apple, or having to purchase a new device all together. read more

My MAC desktop crashed (hard drive). They guys at MacPro were great. They had me come in immediately, when i arrived they took time to quickly and accurately estimate what the problem was and what a solution might be. They set to work on it within a couple hours to confirm the problem/solution. They reassured me through text message that they were very optimistic they could fix it and save my data. They were! The battery on my Mac lap top began malfunctioning. After taking it to an Apple Store to have the battery replaced I was informed that process might would take two or three weeks and they said that there was a possibility all the data on my computer would be erased. So instead I began looking for other options and called MacPro LA. They assured me that they could order the battery and complete the repair in 3 - 4 days and that no data would be erased. I've been back here several times. The first was when the hard drive in my laptop died. These folks didn't tell me it would be a week - they fixed it within days, and gave me a year warranty. My 2015 MacBook Pro needed a battery replacement and I am glad to have given MacPro-LA a try. Prior to bringing the laptop to the store, Ray gave me clear estimates of the cost breakdown of the 2 repair options over the phone. I told Ray that I'm a designer and my livelihood ties with the laptop. He said he'd try to get the repair done within 24 hrs, although their time frame is usually 24-48 hrs.
