    We really enjoyed all the pastries we tried there. The quality was amazing and fresh. The jam used was delicious. We enjoyed the visit, scone, rolly poly, blueberry scone and brought home bread. The fresh juice was delicious as well. The person assisting us was very helpful and the location was cozy.

    Excellent coffee and pastries. Wow what a selection. The dill scone was incredible, just get it toasted plain. The ham and cheese brioche was also excellent, they will toast it so the bread is a little crispy and the cheese is melty. It's a small cafe so seating is limited, but they have outlets to charge devices, and clean bathrooms. Lovely place for a break. Get something for there and to go...

    Love the neighborhood feel of this location. Sometimes it can have quite a line but it usually moves quickly. Staff is happy and it's always pleasant to come here. The baristas aim to please. I really wish they would have more savory/protein options for vegan. They have some wonderful sweet options. There are a number of seasonal treats but if few are vegan My non-vegan family loves the pumpkin chocolate chip cookies that are available right now. Just note sometimes if you're coming out a little bit dark but there still yummy

    This is a very long overdue review collectively for numerous visits to the original Belltown site, this Queen Anne location (3/26/21), SoDo, and Capitol Hill locations. I haven't checked out the Kent location yet. Fun facts: way back when the Macrina QA location was the second iteration of Standard Bakery. Original Standard Bakery was at QA Ave N and Boston before moving to W McGraw. I also lived across the street in a basement apartment, now had become various business iterations over the years. Would have been a match made in baking heaven if the timelines were better aligned. Sigh. I was a Seattle resident since 1983 and now Shoreline since 2002, yeah a total dinosaur by Yelp metrics. Trust me all tasty baked items especially in the classic French style viennoiserie, patisserie, and boulangerie were barely in existence. For example, croissants in the early to mid 1980s were literal dry shards at first bite. The late 1980s to early 1990s was the surge of artisan baking in Seattle. Leslie Mackie of the Macrina empire was a trail blazing master baker and business owner opening Macrina in Belltown back in August 1993. She is an esteemed member of both Bread Bakers Guild of America and Les Dames des Escoffier. I remember tasting the potato bread and assorted pastries back then, mind blown. It reminded me of Paris in 1990. Her success and legions of talented and inspired bakers for nearly three decades speaks volumes with five cafe locations mentioned above, established retail, cafe, and wholesale accounts, and published cookbooks. Macrina was established well before the original Cafe Besalu, Bakery Nouveau, Fresh Flours, Fuji Bakery, Despi Delite, Coyle's Bakeshop, Preserve and Gather, Sea Wolf Bakers, Celine Patisserie, the list goes on, ad naseum. The only bakeshop that predates Macrina was Grand Central in 1972 in Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood. Seattle neighborhoods, the north end, the Eastside, and areas close to the Canadian border...I'm in carb heaven. This region blessed with talented bakers and pastry chefs, both in European and Asian techniques. Disclaimer: I completed pastry and baking training in Seattle and France and worked in the restaurant/catering industry, albeit it a lifetime ago. Macrina located along W. McGraw is a perfectly situated neighborhood spot. PreCovid it was great to stop in, stay awhile to dine and visit onsite or outdoor sidewalk seating. Now it's the mask up, socially distanced, and takeout pandemic routine. But the welcoming staff presides over well stocked display shelves and that lovely pastry case with its vast assortment of items to select from. They also craft pretty decent mochas, imho. Consistent and high quality. Don't forget to start your bread and coffee stamp/punch cards! Visited the Belltown location from the get go in 1993 and often through the years I worked in the vicinity. Visited the Capitol Hill location (used to be Tully's and before that the Surrogate Hostess) and the SoDo locations periodically. The Queen Anne location just has a bit more nostalgia for me personally. All Seattle sites have either street parking or its own private lot (Capitol Hill and SoDo). Just check their websites or call ahead to verify their retail business hours which have been truncated or amended during the pandemic at some Seattle sites. Well established and recommended!

    Can't go wrong with Macrina Bakery. Popped in here three days in a row when staying in Queen Anne, and never tired of the place. Their cappuccino was great, but their selection of perfectly flaked and crumbled pastries were all so delicious. Every time we ate here our table was covered in croissant crumbs by the time we were done. If you come a bit after the morning rush there seems to be enough seating, and the window is great for people watching. Sparking water on tap was a lovely touch I don't see often. We're pretty discerning bakery connoisseurs (especially my four year old) and we were all very pleased with this Macrina location.

    Just here to happily add another 5 star review among the many others. We had their pumpkin muffin which was perfectly moist and not too sweet. We also enjoyed their dill scone. Ask them to heat up the items to enjoy them even more. Having the pumpkin muffin heated up made the pumpkin seeds on top slightly crunch which went so well with the rest of the warm, soft muffin.

    Mushroom and cheese brioche was SO good! My husband had the egg and ham sandwich which he said was great as well. Great lattes as well!

Through several visits: Baguette, Large ($7.95) - Great baguette with bubbling golden exterior complete with the perfectly baked crust even after waiting 3 hours before cutting in and eating. The interior has the perfect moisture level and is delightfully soft and chewy. The taste overall has a deep developed flavor. This is a great baguette. The only problem - the price. I can find ones for half the price that are maybe 80% as good as this one. (5/5) Seasonal Biscuit ($4.50) - This biscuit definitely isn't Southern-style. It's more of a drop biscuit, combining a relatively soft and tender interior with a nice exterior crust, without any flakiness or layering. The interior is almost cake-like in texture and crumb, and is plenty moist. They add plenty of fresh black pepper inside. It's distributed very evenly, giving a peppery bite with every mouthful. Parmesan is added to the top of the biscuit before baking, giving plenty of umami and richness but only on the upper layer. (4/5) Green Vinaigrette Cafeteria Style Pizza ($6.25) - The pizza is kept under a warming lamp, so it starts getting a little dried out after I assume a couple of hours spent there. I do love the base though - it's focaccia-like giving a really crunchy dark golden brown crust underneath, which supports the toppings. The pizza slice has lots of structural integrity and doesn't flop over. There's a base of fragrant concentrated tomato paste-like flavor which is topped with a very even layer of cheese. Since it's warmed rather than freshly baked, the cheese starts congealing a bit. The cheese is peppered with parsley, garlic, and a bunch of mustard seeds, giving a special zing. The toppings go all the way to the sides of the pie, making it great for people who dislike crust. Even though it's cafeteria style pizza that's kept under heat lamps, I quite liked it. I wonder if I can get a really fresh slice if I get there right at 11AM when lunch starts. (5/5) Chocolate Croissant ($6.10) - Great lamination with a very aesthetic honeycomb pattern. Baked on the harder side, causing fantastic crispy flaky layers to flake off, but also creating a darker golden brown character that is on the verge of bitterness. Nicely buttery soft and chewy interior. Chocolate is a darker variety, probably somewhere around 70%, so it has a pleasing balanced sweetness and chocolate flavor. It's not typical baton, instead seems to be a section from a bar. Still warm and melty even through I didn't eat the croissant until ~30 minutes after purchasing. When cooled down further, some red fruity notes start appearing, so this seems to be be pretty high quality. (5/5) White Sourdough ($12.60) - Now this is a loaf of bread. Superb crust, probably 2 or 3 times as thick compared to competitors, creating a supreme crusty bite with a chew approaching a hard crunch with almost caramelized molasses notes on the bottom. The interior is moist and tender with a pleasing slight sourdough tang. It's a superb piece of craftsmanship. (5/5) Kouign Amann ($5.80) - This is another heavier bake with some acridity development on the top surface. Unlike many other bakeries where the kouign amann is basically a differently shaped croissant with sugar glaze, Sea Wolf's version feels more in line with tradition. The crumb is denser and richer, more like brioche. There's interesting black speckling inside which I believe is due to the inclusion of espresso powder given the mild coffee-like flavor. The crust is again baked hard, but it's lighter and not as flaky as the croissant. They sprinkle just a bit of salt on top of a very light caramelized sugar glaze. It's not very sweet and I didn't find it too salty unlike some other reviewers. (5/5) Plain Focaccia Slice ($4.80) - Good quality olive oil, some salt sprinkled on top to boost the flavors. Light and airy interior, but the exterior is a little wan, being more light golden brown and lacking some good crusty crisp especially on the fried bottom. Quite oily. (4/5) Sea Wolf gives out free sourdough starter, which can be requested from the cashier. Since picking it up several weeks ago, I've gone through several feed/bake cycles for making sourdough focaccia. I've visited Sea Wolf 3 or 4 times in the last month. That's a testament to how high quality their pastries and breads are. I think the only thing stopping me from visiting more is thanks to the starter I got from them fanning my baking instincts. I bake so much now that I don't have any need to buy their bread! Note: Sea Wolf charges a 3% credit card fee. This is not noted on their menu - it only appears in the POS right before paying. Butter Croissant (3.75/5): I'll admit I'm insanely picky with my croissants and I think Sea Wolf's is just okay. I want a stronger crisp on the outside, something that almost shatters and makes a mess when you bite in, but the inside has a nice chew. Kouign Amann (3.75/5): I had a really fantastic time with this my first time picking it up, they have almost a crunchy sugar caramel crust on the outside with super buttery pastry inside. Unfortunately, my second time picking this up ended up being a miss, just stale and much to dry. Cinnamon Roll (1/5): The raisins are a nice touch, but this was awfully dry. Even the caramelized crus on the outside couldn't save this and charging extra for cream cheese frosting on top of a dry dough is criminal.

Mine came absolutely drowning in syrup, and honestly, the flavor tasted pretty artificial and overpowering.

"Well, we have no croissants available... so... no." Not "I'm sorry, we're sold out." Not even a hint of courtesy. Just a cold, dismissive response to an 11-year-old. Then I asked whether they made specialty coffee because my daughter wanted a latte. The response: "We have an espresso machine." Thanks, but that wasn't the question. Instead, the overwhelming impression was arrogance: the assumption that people will keep coming no matter how poorly they're treated. Seattle has too many outstanding bakeries staffed by people who actually appreciate their customers to waste your time or money here. This place has earned exactly one visit from me, and that's one too many.

My boyfriend and I were easily able to find seating by the windows and enjoyed the gorgeous view of the space needle and people watching as we shared breakfast. Coffee is good but not a wow. Food like the croissants seems to be not fresh. They did not have the look of freshly baked considering it was around 9am. Not sure but did not have the glow or lopk when I see a pastry. Nice place though. Lots of tables and space. They were busy.

All the pastries except for the regular butter croissant were available, and we were able to place an order for the kimchi focaccia and sakura swiss roll, which were slated to come out around 10am. Service was super friendly! I got the hojicha latte, the okonomiyaki frittata, black sesame cookie, kimchi focaccia, and sakura swiss roll. The hojicha latte was rich and earthy in the best way, and it went really well with the black sesame cookie, which had a great strong sesame flavor, and the texture was perfectly chewy! The focaccia was pillowy and chewy at the same - I could've eaten five of these on their own. The frittata was my least favorite item, but by no means am I saying that it's bad! I thought the sauces overpowered it a bit, and the frittata itself was a bit bland - I couldn't even tell it had sweet potato in it, but it was cooked really well. There was ample seating in the heated patio, but parking was a little confusing, though we got lucky with the small lot right next to the store. There were a lot of signs that said no parking along the street in front, but it seemed like a lot of cars were parked there?

The Fried Egg Sandwich and Saint Cheeseburger were on the same buns, which were soft, buttery, and delicious. However, the ratio of patty-to-bun for the cheeseburger felt a bit off (way more bun than patty), and if we were to get it again, we would definitely order it with an extra patty. The fries were solid, but the Miso Ranch unfortunately did not have a prominent miso flavor, and instead was very dill-heavy. All around, we enjoyed our visit and would for sure come back to try their baked goods.
