If I could I would leave a -100 mac's ruin our mother's. I call for mac's to cook some meat for us mother's day I have used them many times they even cook for our wedding and many other occasions. When you drop off meat they change by the pound and write down what you bring now am picky about my meat I only buy meat from moody and commissary, and sausage from heb only because they dont carry. Other times the taller lady w/glass brings you the food and open it so you can check it. Well today was weird a short Hispanic man bought my food out I was waiting for him to open the container. Nope he kept saying you dont have to check it all there we dont steal and the owner pack it himself. Now am thinking I have never been told that ever not here not no where. Because says that to a customer. Unless all your food not there. But the man kept repeating it all the way to my car it wasn't seating well with me. But just said OK I had other places to I bought over there 4 beef ribs, 3 pork rib, 4 chicken half, 10 v&v links 5 jalapeño cheddar sausage. I pick it up close to 5 I got home at 710pm I went to season the meat and slab of pork ribs was missing i called and left a message. No one called i called Wednesday the lady repeats my order like I didn't know what I bought over there. She get the owner to call back he tells me he packed it himself and all my food was there I said first it wasn't second why would that make a difference who packs it i dont you or anyone who works there nor did I see you pack it and I dont care who pack as.long as my food is there. Then he said what you want me too to do. I said you tell me the owner then said well I can gave you 10 dollar what you paid to cook that ribs I said and where is the cost of the meat at. He repeat I can give you 10. I told him it seems that you need that meat and 10 more then I do but believe me I will tell everyone I know that you all steals and to make sure when they say you dont have to check you better check because that means they stole your food. That only makes me think about all the meat drop off and paid 300 and 250 for them to cook the meat if really received all of that meat back. Who knows if they not whiching out people meats too. But what I do know we will never ever use them again. A smart business person would of said What can do you can come in and get 3 lbs of pork ribs or your choice of meat to make it right. I've been going to Mac's over 10yrs, today I went through the drive thru I ordered a marble brisket sandwich, when I got home I was disappointed to see brisket flat. So I called and complain to Rene she suggested as inconvenience on my part to come back with the sandwich so they can correct my order, or she can take my name so on my next visit bring the original brisket flat sandwich, and they will make a new order! Happened by here for lunch and suddenly craved BBQ. I'd heard/read mixed reviews about Mac's so I thought, "why not?" Had their po'boy sandwich plate; chopped beef, sausage & brisket on a hogie, along with two sides. I chose potato salad and coleslaw. Of course, also had iced tea. Before trying the sandwich as a whole, I took out some of the components to sample. Brisket was rather dry, considering it was the "fattier" cut. The sausage tasted like V&V's jalapeno sausage, so how can you screw that up? The chopped beef was a hit, though. Good chunks of beef with just the right amount of sauce; not too soggy, not too sweet. It would've been nice if the bun had been toasted so it would've held up to some sauce instead of getting soggy. Potato salad was good as was the cole slaw. Nothing really stood out with those. The "relish bar" had good selections of both chopped and sliced onions, pickles and jalapenos as well as some pico de gallo. Service was friendly enough. Everything happens right at the front counter when you step up - no tableside service. So, is it good BBQ? Yes. Is it GREAT BBQ or the best? No. The brisket, while a little dry did have excellent, smoky flavor. And I would go back if for nothing more than a chopped beef sandwich. read more

Brisket is the fall-apart tender I've always told people they could expect from this place....but the prices have gone crazy. Two one meat (brisket) plates came to $29.96 (cash discount) and that's just ridiculous. Great meat, terrible price. And they did not deliver a receipt...could be opportunistic employees. Some of the best bbq I have found in town. I don't agree with the other reviews and I am chalking it up to them being old reviews and something must have changed between other reviews and now. I come here about once every other week for lunch. Everyone is always friendly and eve remember what I order even though I like to think I don't come in that often.... Everything I have tried here and been really good, as have the things I've tried off of friends plates. The manager is friendly and likes to joke with his customers and employees. My only complaint would be the small drink selection but I understand that it is easier to sell canned drinks and tea than have to deal with the daily maintenance of a soda machine (seriously guys those things get NASTY.... I'm talking mold and slime that is prone to come out in pieces in your cup of it isn't being maintained daily). So, in review, Mac's is awesome and totally worth checking out! read more

I accessed Mac's website, selected my best option. I went to the restaurant and didn't recognize any prices on their menu, as they were very different online. I asked, and they explained, "oh yeah.. I can't figure out how to change it, and NO we won't honor those prices". I had already placed my order, however on second thought, I cancelled the order, left, and went to Silverdos on Weber. We went to Mac's because we heard it was very good. What a disapointment. You would think in Texas you could get better than that. I had the barbeque beef sandwhich special. It was on par with what I remember eating as a child in the school cafeteria or perhaps when My Mother made sloppy Joe with a can of Manwhich. The side dishes were tastless. I had corn (from a can) and some concoction of mashed potatoes with bacon (tastless as well) I cannot imagine where the people who say how good it is eat on a regular basis,perhaps Stripes. The only thing that was good was the Sam Adams Beer. If you have normal taste buds,do yourself a favor and go to Silverado Smoke House or even Rudy's which is not that great but much better than there. read more

I ate here recently with another person, and both of us left underwhelmed :/ To start, the restaurant was basically empty when we went inside (which isn't a big deal since we were eating at a weird hour between lunch/dinner), yet there were still plates left on the tables (at least 2 tables) from previous patrons. Those dirty plates/cups stayed on the tables throughout the entire duration of our meal and were still there when we left. How lazy! I couldn't believe no one came to pick them up and clear/clean off the tables! On to the food. I ordered a plate of brisket and my companion had a chopped beef sandwich; we both had sides of potato salad and pinto beans. The pinto beans were undercooked and not soft enough (they needed to be cooked probably another hour or so in a pot or slow cooker). The potato salad was way too chunky and the potato "chunks" too big: I had a piece of potato about the size of a golf ball in mine. To top it off, my meat was not that tender and the pieces were cut so thick that I had a terrible time cutting it up to eat it. The chopped beef sandwich was ok though (I tasted a piece off the other person's plate). If I ever had to go there again, I would order the chopped beef sandwich. The portions were ok, although the amount of sides you get is kinda small. Since we didn't really like our sides, we didn't care too much. Also, neither of us liked the sweet tea. read more

Today I visited Mac's bbq for lunch, the best decision I could have made. I opted for the moist brisket sandwich, i was so soft and tender and no fat on it and very well served. Service at the counter is friendly and accommodating. They will even smoke your meat for a reasonable price! Good location, but the food is mediocre. The chicken is super dry, and the brisket is dry and tough as are the ribs. The sauce is blah. I've had bones in the chicken salad more than once. The bacon taters occasionally has slabs of pork fat/skin....yuck! There's a good selection of sides, but they have very little flavor. This is my favorite BBQ joint! It's always clean and the staff and owner are always helpful and polite!! My husband know if he wants to get on my good side he'll offer to take me there. The portions are very generous and the prices right. The mac n cheese is alway cheesy and creamy. Never dry like most mac. The meats are tender and well smoked.
