There are lots of big box pet stores in the area, but I'm making the assumption that a smaller local shop likely treats their animals better and hopefully sources more ethically too. In any case, I'd rather shop local when I can and the prices are competitive. I called to see if they had any gerbils available and Aela let us know that they had some males in store. She said to ask for her when we came by. About an hour later, we dropped by and found Aela. She brought the gerbils out in their enclosure and was great not only with the animals, but my very excited children as well. She answered our questions and seemed to really enjoy her job, which makes it so much more fun for everyone involved. She took care of getting them in a box with some bedding and sent us off with smiles all around. I'm so thankful that Denny's is part of the neighborhood, and for great employees like Aela who make the experience fun.

When we were getting our second fish, there was one beta in a small cup that was dead and moldy...I had to give the cup with the dead fish to the staff. Seems like they don't check on the fish like they should. I feel so bad for the fish there. I really hope the owner sees this and makes some changes. This makes me so sad. They have people working there that are clearly not educated enough to care for fish. Personally, I don't think this place should be selling any live animals as they don't take good care of them.

When I first walked in to this store, the customer service guy was on the telephone, but he came and found me in the aisle that I was in within a few minutes, with a big friendly smile and an offer to help me find anything that I was looking for. I told him that I'd like to buy some treats and toys for my cat, and he directed me to the cat section, then told me to let him know if I needed any more help. Quite a bit of this lovely store is devoted to doggos, but there is a substantial section devoted to cats as well. I have the best cat, and I was happy with the treats and toys available for him at Sam's. I took a photo of everything that I ended up purchasing except for a last-minute find - a fake peacock feather for just 1 dollar and 49 cents! What an excellent value. The cat treats and toys were a good value as well, especially for the high quality of most of the ingredients in the treats. Imagine my surprise when reading the ingredient list for the Cat Lobster Treats when I found out that actual Lobster is one of the ingredients in the treats! Tuna was the first ingredient in the Lobster treats, and my cat, Benjamin Kitty, loves tuna. Hopefully he likes these treats, I haven't given him one yet. I was also happy to see that Sam's had the Salmon-flavored Greenies Dental Cat Treats. My cat likes these treats, and the ones that I have at home recently expired. I feed him treats that are helpful for him to pass furballs, and I also feed him the Greenies treats that help with his dental health. Then there are the treats that I feed him just because he loves them. I used to play with my rescue cat every day or almost every day for the first couple of years that I had him, but I haven't been doing play time with him quite that often lately. I've gotten into watching some of Jackson Galaxy's Cat Videos on YouTube recently, and I am reading one of his books right now as well. He says, "Play with Your Cat, Play with your Cat, Play with Your Cat." My cat is extremely athletic, so he really does need frequent play time. When I got home today, I tried out the peacock feather cat toy with Benjamin Kitty for our interactive play time. He really went after this toy, as you can see in the photo. I think it is good for him to have a play time right before I feed him, which I did today and which I will be doing almost every day moving forward, since cats are natural hunters and they are biologically wired to exercise their hunting instincts prior to eating. Cats also tend to naturally hunt close to dusk, so I am going to try to time his play times for around that time moving forward, if possible. The gentleman who helped me at Sam's was understandably a bit frustrated because the computer system there was down today, so he actually had to write down every purchase of mine by hand! I felt badly for him! What an annoying thing to have happen. However, he was also fairly good-natured about this as well, and I was very happy overall with his customer service. The store also smelled really nice when I walked into it, which surprised me. It was a very faint citrus smell. This store does sell a collection of air purification items for pet homes, including sprays, candles, and hanging air fresheners, so perhaps one or more of these products is being used in the store. I don't think I've ever been so pleasantly surprised by the smell of a pet store before... usually they smell like cat and dog food, not an unpleasant smell but not necessarily a super lovely one for humans either. I would definitely return to this store again to buy my cat a few more toys. I really don't think that he can ever have too many new toys (well, within reason, of course), and he tends to be more interested in newer toys, overall. It's so important for my cat's physical and emotional health to prioritize interactive play time with him, and to occasionally buy him new and interesting toys to switch it up. I was happy with my experience at Sam's today, and I am especially happy that Benjamin Kitty liked one of his new Sam's toys so much!

The Nulo Freestyle series is his favorite and finding this particular brand was a challenge. We were down to the last can of Nulo and we were desperately searching every pet food retailer in the area. We stumbled upon Pet Pros during one of our weekend errand missions. Pet Pros currently has 24 locally owned locations in Washington and Oregon and has been in business for 30 years. This Pet Pros location was close to home and conveniently located inside a plaza next to Safeway. They carry the Nulo Freestyle series for both wet & dry food along with other high quality and natural pet food and clothing. In addition, they also carry treats and other products for pet care/training. I recommend signing up for the frequent buyer program if you are purchasing more than 12 bags of dog & cat dry food per year. There is a perk of a free bag after the 12th purchase. Pet Pros advertises monthly specials and sales on their company website. The staff has always been friendly and helpful with recommendation on treats and new product information. There is a special when checking in on the Yelp app of $5 off $25 purchase.
