The restaurant is a hometown staple. The atmosphere is dated and homely; the entire place is painted a flat gray tone and all of the general dinning area is carpeted (in 3 different types). The carpets are really in need of a good cleaning. The hostess was kind and welcoming and the waitress was timely and punctual with all provided services. The food was good. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms and barroom pretzels as appetizers. The mushrooms were well cooked and seasoned well. The pretzels were delicious and well cooked. For the main courses we orders the coconut shrimp with onion rings and the Boston Lobster pie with baked beans and sweet potato fries. The lunch portion of the coconut shrimp was well cooked and visually appealing. The lobster pie was a fair share and well cooked and topped with bread crumbs and soaked in butter.

Soaked salad! Didn't open it and didn't eat it!

When we moved here a year and a half ago, we discovered Chickadees restaurant and it WAS one of our favorites! We were frequent customers. The quality of their food has been subpar at best lately. The chowder is served at room temperature consistently. The food is GREASY! They don't filter or change the oil frequently enough to keep standards acceptable. The burnt taste is in the food. Servers have turned over and they seem like they don't care. Months ago I tried to get the "manager " on the phone to discuss a take out order ( my only take out order from there). I got a run around for 2weeks about him being on vacation, he'll return your call tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow. It never came . Items were missing, my salad was swimming in dressing, couldn't eat it. I was talked into going back. My mom loves the fried clams. So I caved in. We were all sorry again! Cold food, slow service. Won't be back again. Kelly isn't wrong. The way to handle a customer concern is NOT telling them not to come back. I've heard that is the new managers responses to any concerns!

My parents took me out for lunch today and brought me to Chick-a-dee. I believe it was my first time at this location but I do believe I went to the original location in Turner many moons ago when I was a kid. The original Chick-a-dee closed back in 2012 after operating for 77 years. The family (or at least a member of the family) who owns this location, also bought the original Chick-a-dee in the '70s. I think this location opened around 2007 but don't hold me to it. We had great service today. I don't remember the girl's name but she was fantastic. The food was very good. I ordered the Mini Shore Lunch which included a lobster roll, haddock chowder, fries and coleslaw ($25). It was a very filling meal and everything was tasty. Their homemade fries are bomb. The lobster roll was good--not the best I've ever had but much better than the ones I've had in California. The haddock chowder was good once I added some salt and pepper. And the coleslaw was decent. I felt like it needed some vinegar for some balance. As someone who lives in the Bay Area and goes to different restaurants weekly, I was pleasantly surprised. I can understand why this place and institution has stood the test of time.

Finally made it in! I've been hearing about this restaurant from locals, for a while now. Seeing the parking lot, I was sure we'd have to wait. They were busy on Friday evening. It's actually a lot bigger inside than it looks though, and we were seated right away. The waitress was friendly, attentive and very good at her job. I opted for the fried shrimp. They were tasty - not too much breading and cooked perfectly. Specials looked good too.

Every single time I come to Maine, there's been a visit to Chick-a-dees involved. It's definitely a Lewiston staple. I went twice this trip. Yea, I heard some grumbling about new ownership and complaints that they changed the Cole slaw recipe, but I'm certainly not that much of a regular to notice the changes. I got what I came for--amazing lobster rolls and fresh haddock.

Always an amazing dinner! Service is top notch and the seafood is delicious. Huge servings - you definitely will not go home hungry. Plenty of parking and nicely appointed dining room. Highly recommend!

Always an amazing meal at the chickadee. I always have a cup of the lobster stew cause it's loaded with fresh lobster. I tried the lobster pie Boston style and it was so creamy and sweet. Our waitress Nikkie was attentive and personable. It is well worth the 20 minute drive for us and always crowded with regulars. My daughter enjoys their kids fish and chips and the hand breaded chicken tenders. Their hand cut fries are crisp, the pickled beets are my favorite.

The food is less than average, the wait staff is rude, and the place is filthy. Other than that, go anywhere else.

Linda M. 020 7 days…read moreago My mom and I went tonight (Tuesday 7/1). She had boneless wings. We both enjoyed our meals. Mom loved her wings. Tender and moist. I loved my salmon especially with that delicious maple bourbon glaze. They put enough to mix with the rice. So good!!!!!!! the broccoli was cooked perfectly, not too hard/not too soft. I really hope this restaurant stays. I have one concern.....the parking, yes, for the customers, but more so for the restaurant staff. Restaurant staff are getting parking tickets. What's the point of working downtown if all restaurant staff tips go to paying parking tickets? I suggest the owners of all the restaurants downtown talk to the city of Lewiston, and ask if restaurant staff could get a free pass to the garage after they show proof of employment. Use a sticker on the window IDing cars exempt from payment to the garage. City of Lewiston, please step up and help hard working people not lose their tips to parking tickets. Don't want to lose good workers due to parking tickets. Lewiston, you have wonderful downtown restaurants. HELP KEEP THE HELP!!!!! Abby was amazing, kind, attentive. Enjoyed her very much. The ambiance was relaxing. The lighting is prefect, not too dark, not too light. There were not many people when we were there, probably due to no available parking, so I don't know the noise level. I could guess, based on the height of the ceiling I would think it would be noisy, echo'ey, if it were packed. But not so loud as to prevent a conversation with your party. Definitely will be going back. I want to try ahi tuna next. Linda Lavoie Mckinney

The cheesesteak definitely tasted like steakums, ya know that pre sliced stuff in the frozen section. The bus was too large for the amount of meat given, but the bread was good. The salad was solid for a side, fresh toppings, nothing brown, dressing was good but tasted store bought. The service was slow for how dead it was, the bartender was good for daytime service, nice guy, but I'd hate to see how that panned out on a busy night. Great space, nice decor, lighting, very clean. Lots of potential, several places have failed in this spot, hopefully they work the kinks out. (I didn't eat the other items pictured)

The sandwich was an amazing surprise. I had the opportunity to try Mancinis a few weeks back with some friends and was unfortantely unable to attend. The food and bread here is delicious and that's why it's a five star. BUT I have qualms about the following: - My SOLE interaction with staff was one half shouting "Did you order ahead?" No "Hi", "Let us know if you need help", "Have you been here before if not you order on the screen", nothing. Literally the order was put on the counter with nothing said. Had to explain to the person behind us how to order. - A tip screen despite my being the cashier who ordered and customized my items and grabbed my own sides and got my own drinks and paid for it all at the kiosk. Sandwhich maker isn't a tipped job. Pay your employees more if they aren't making enough. - $3.25 for a bag of chips that run $1.25 retail and $4 for a Sanpellegrino is unhinged. Grab a soda and chips at the Citgo across the corner and save yourself the trouble. Two chips and two drinks was 2/3 the cost of the entire sandwhich.

I don't know if they stepped up their game, if last time I was here was an off day or if my man in the kitchen has anything to do with it. But this place lives in a while different place in my brain. Apps Asparogi Avvolti: Prosciutto wrapped asparagus with fontina cheese and balsamic glaze. Sweet young asparagus, wrapped in salty prosciutto with nutty fontina melted over the topped, drizzled with the perfect about if sweet glaze. Fried Calamari: calamari, fried cherry peppers, arugula, and cherry pepper aïoli. Fresh, breading was light and crispy. My only complaint here is there weren't enough tentacles, a lot of rings. I usually only eat tentacles because the rings are usually close cousins to rubber bands. That was not the case here, but I still wanted more tentacles. Either way very delicious.
