I used to go here all the time it was my favorite go to restaurant very expensive, but the food was phenomenal and I left with enough leftovers for the next couple of days since it's sold the new owners I found the especially for the price they serve prime rib. It's so thin it has to be sliced on a slicer and it's well done. It's almost impossible to get a rare slice In fact I went to a wine dinner prefix menu and they refused to serve anything except for well done thin slice tough to chew prime rib. Had our usual Thanksgiving dinner at Sedley place and we were quite disallusioned by the current condition of the outside of the house. It no longer is maintained as once was their custom. Dinner was below quality- I don't believe there could have been anyone looking at the quality of their plating. Green beans were admittly ( improperly cut when Prepping said our waitstaff. Our family celebrated our 3rd annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Sedgley Place. The restaurant is situated in a house built in 1786. While the restaurant is modern, the house retains all of its historical charm. The Sedgley Place is one of our favorite places for celebrating a special, relaxing, and delicious meal. Ambiance, service, and food here are always impeccable. A five course meal was offered, with plenty of food options, and huge portion sizes. All of the food was delectable, and well executed by an expertly run kitchen. Such a great way to enjoy Thanksgiving! We went to Sedgley Place for my birthday, and were not disappointed. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was lovely. I had not been to this restaurant in many years, and I feel it was much better than I remembered. Portions were just perfect. I had pecan crusted haddock with mushroom risotto, and both the fish as risotto were delicious. The mushroom risotto was the best I have ever had. My husband had the scallops and he said they were excellent as well. Service was a little slow, but that was just fine with me as I wanted to enjoy the evening. read more

Took my wife here for dinner tonight for her birthday as I did last year. I was very disappointed in the food and the kitchen. Our server was the only positive. Our reservation was for 6 pm and we seated on time. We did not leave until 8:45. It took the kitchen two hours to prepare the meals. The prime rib was very tough with the majority left on the plate,the carrots were essentially raw, and the baked potato was very small. All this for $86. The server was told for which she offered a "small discount". Nice of her. The mgr never came to the table and no one from the kitchen ever came out. The server took $17 off of the bill. I paid $60 for a small salad, uncooked carrots, and a small bare baked potato. Nothing special was done to the potato. Nothing to put on it. It was a terrible drawn out expensive experience. Nothing like it was last year under the previous owners. It is not recommended at all. read more

Today we enjoyed our Thanksgiving celebration with family at the SedgleyPlace. We have been going to this restaurant for several years. They offer staggered seating times with 3 hours in between dining times. The kitchen is used to this type of seating and works as a finely tuned machine delivering expertly prepared dishes from start to finish. The wait staff have a great attitude and are very helpful and friendly. They offered several festive fall beverages including mocktails. The selections included the traditional turkey dinner as well as a vegetarian offering, two seafood meals and two beef selections. All of the meals had generous portions and even had enough to take home for another meal. There were also 5 desserts and each of us tried a different one. The highlights were the peanut butter pie and the chocolate torte. They were both rich and delicious. I can't say enough about the great quality of food, staff and the perfect timing in between courses to enjoy our meals and not feel rushed. read more

Son ordered a swiss and mushroom omelet which came with NO mushrooms and barely warm hash browns. I ordered the stuffed popover with bacon, couldn't see or taste any bacon, barely warm hash browns. Daughter had french toast, delivered with NO hash browns. One out of four were correct. Wait time for drinks and meal was long. Will not be going for breakfast any more. This year (2021) my family and I had our Mother's Day meal at Sedgley Place. I had never been before but my sisters regarded it highly. The Mother's Day meals consisted of "5 courses". I have never seen bread and butter considered as a "course", but this is what you will find at Sedgley Place. Sedgley place is regarded as fine dining but is not at all a fine dining experience. The staff was off-putting and gave you the feeling that they did not want you there. The waitress was aware of my allergy to cheese and still gave me someone else's course that had cheese as one of the main ingredients. My course was given to another person who started eating it before either of us realized the mixup. Once I alerted the waitress she simply swapped the partially eaten plates. Not fine dining etiquette at all. The balsamic vinaigrette garden salad was very pleasing and tasteful. I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon for my main course. The filet was ordered Medium-Rare and to my disappointment it arrived medium-well and must have been sitting for a while as it was almost down to room temperature. Very disappointed as this is a cut that should be cooked perfectly. The prices at Sedgley Place reflect fine dining but the experience absolutely does not. read more

My husband and I had an excellent experience here this past Sunday! After receiving a gift certificate for our wedding, we chose to save it and use it for our one year anniversary. From the very start to the very end, it was a fantastic and enjoyable time. We were able to make a reservation online easily and effortlessly and when we arrived for our 5 o'clock reservation, we were brought to an intimate and quiet dining room that had only five other tables in it. Throughout the evening (we were there about two hours from start to finish) only three other couples were sat in the same room. (It seemed as though it was a dining room for special occasions as at least one other couple we also celebrating their anniversary.) We were given a drink list, the food menu, and offered a complimentary champagne toast for our anniversary-- we gladly accepted! Options for beer, non-alcoholic drinks, wine/carafes/bottles were all listed in the drink menu. We chose a bottle of red Bordeaux-- it was delicious and a perfect accompaniment to our dinner. When you arrive, water glasses as well as crackers with a delicious cheese/olive spread are waiting for you on the table. Shrimp cocktail was also offered (for an additional price outside of the dinner price) which we also couldn't say no to! After placing our order, a delicious homemade wheat bread with whipped honey butter was brought to our table-- it was divine and appeared to be fresh out of the oven. For our appetizers we enjoyed the French onion soup and scallop studded mushrooms followed by a house tossed salad with a creamy garlic dressing. We both chose the bacon wrapped filet with twice baked potato and cabbage for our entree. I honestly loved everything about the meal however I think the cabbage was my favorite part! Dessert was chocolate torte and peanut butter pie; both fantastic however I chose to finish my husband's peanut butter pie over the torte cuz it was just that amazing. Not only was the atmosphere and food top notch, the service was incredible. Anna, a young woman who was not even old enough to legally serve us our wine, was a pleasure and really made the experience what it was! The history of the building is really impressive too! Built in 1786, the restaurant still boasts all it's original floors. The only addition that has been made is the kitchen-- pretty cool! We look forward to make the Sedgley Place a part of our anniversary celebration every year! read more

Tonight was my first time to Sedgley Place . This is one of the best restaurants I've been too . Great food ! Friendly attentive wait staff ! We had the 5 course meal . We had reservations. The table had a nice card along with house made cheese spread and boxed crackers and water . The shrimp cocktail was great ! The French onion soup was the best we have ever had ! The Ceasar salad was the only thing that was not amazing , lettuce with little dressing some grated cheese and 2 unseasoned toasted baguette slices for croutons . The Land and Sea was amazing . My guest said it was the best steak and lobster he has ever had ! I agree ! We heard people being offered a pop over with the meal. We were not , but we asked for one out of curiosity and we charged extra . That was ok it was good ! We ended with pumpkin cheese cake and a hot fudge sundae . I've never ate so much but it was so good ! If you have not been to Sedgley Place you need to go ASAP ! Worth every penny , $150.00 no alcohol . We were seated in a back room, the space was very nice except for the wedding that was going on, caused a lot of chaos. We didn't understand why we were seated there and why they had not told us there was a wedding going on! This alone killed any vibe of upscale restaurants for me! Now dinner! $$$$ On the table was Pimento Cheese Spread with Box Crackers. Why? Absolutely no flavor. Next 1 small loaf of warm bread with very cold butter. Appetizer was French onion soup, great flavor not hot enough, so the cheese really didn't melt it was one big clump of cheese. We have 2 orders of Prime Rib, 1 Short Rib and Baked Haddock with Pineapple Salsa. Prime Rib cooked perfect, seasoned well and we both loved it. Short Ribs were very good, she liked her meal. Fish was under seasoned and underwhelming! They also offered a pop over with your entrée, which we got three of, not good at all! The desert was not high end! So over priced for what we were served! I don't live here, so I know I will never return! But the sad part my family that do live there we're embarrassed, because they were so excited to take us there. We are new to Maine and just discovered The Sedgley Place about two months ago and we find ourselves here twice a week and I highly recommend everyone else do the same. Why twice?! Because the breakfast is phenomenal and the five-course dinners are so special! The five-course dinner meal menu changes weekly (with a few standard items). Cheese and crackers as soon as you are seated, then soups, salad, main course and dessert. I shouldn't forget the yummy warm bread, too. The breakfast is equally as creative as the dinner and always keeps you wanting to come back for more. Not to be out shadowed is the top tier service from the moment you step in the door to when you walk out. You feel a very warm welcome instantly. The setting is quaint and the staff was great. Very uneven food quality with many of the same issues noted by others in the past. French onion soup was great, about the only thing that was. Caesar salad was nearly devoid of dressing and almost tasteless. Most main dishes were either cold, way over salted or both. Went to the thanksgiving event. 45-60 a plate or so. Pretty bad when the cheese and crackers and the partially frozen shrimp cocktail was the best thing placed on the table. Spent way to long with a empty drink no waitress in sight. Turkey was pressed loaf, cut over a inch thick, a dollop of mashed taters bout the size of a egg, and near no gravy, Was done eating before the waitress checked on us, so no chance to get a little more, Some of the vedge was overcooked to near mush, while the carrots were half raw, and the green beans completely raw. Was served zucchini bread as a app, and absolutely no bread with the meal. Vedgie lasagna lacked sauce and was too try to eat, and that is some feat for a vedge based pasta dish. The apple cobbler had almost no apple in it, and came with less then half a egg sized scoop of ice cream, as well as lacking the whipped cream it was ordered with. waitress gave the excuse of they ran out. The chocolate tort, was dry and overly bitter. It took near a half hour to get drinks from the time we sat down, even though drink orders were taken near immediately, First salad/soup courses took close to a hour, main course, over 1 hour 45 min after we sat, it took over 2 hours and 45 minutes from sit to get. In addition to this, something we ate gave my mother the squirts, before we got home, and i spent the nite awake fighting with a very upset stomach with acid reflux, something that usually does not happen to me. Overall, for the price paid, food quality was low, cafeteria grade at best,and serving size skimpy and or poorly dished out. This place used to be very good but you couldn't prove it by me. Seriously more then 45 bucks for a Turkey dinner or vedge lasagna, Highway robbery, even on a holiday seating. Another member of the family covered the bill, so i did not want to make issue at the time in front of him. He shelled out well over 600 plus tip for 10 people. The place was clean, surprisingly quiet for the number of people there. Bathroom was clean, but had a roll of house hold paper towels sitting there to dry ones hands, kinda tacky and unsanitary, but better then nothing. After needing a change of pace for restaurants we decided to hit this place up for a night out. I hadn't been in years so I was curious to see if the change of owners had any significant affect on the service and or food. Arrived a few minutes early and were promptly added to the group of tables that were being seated ( they seat in groups to serve each course around the same time). We were brought upstairs to a cozy table for two and were asked if we were celebrating anything. We were not but it was a nice touch. Champagne was brought to a table nearby that was celebrating their 20 year anniversary. We ordered drinks and were told of the first course appetizer options and which salad we would like and whether we wanted bread or not. When our drinks came back we put in our main meal order. Each course came out promptly and was pretty good. My date was very picky about his filet mignon and said his was pretty good but not the best he has had in the area. My fish was lovely and sides were cooked well. Service was prompt and super courteous. While the menu is limited each course has a good amount to appease many dietary needs. read more

Don't bother! Go to Fishbones or Fuel if you want good, gourmet food. I haven't been here since last Fall. Management has gotten considerably cheaper and underhanded. The food and service were ok, nothing to really write home about but the ridiculous, non-disclosed added charges for things that always had been free and customarily still are with gracious restaurants will keep me from coming back! I have never been to a restaurant that features prime rib and then secretly charges you for horseradish! It's a condiment for pity's sake! It's like ordering french fries and then having a charge on your bill for ketchup. Charges for everything...I love both the house dressing and the bleu cheese. I have always ordered both on the side, never charged. Not tonight! Undisclosed charge on my check. I ordered the hot fudge sundae for dessert. I asked for extra hot fudge instead of whipped cream, nuts, cherry etc...you guessed it, undisclosed $2.00 charge on the bill for the tiniest side of hot fudge. Again, all things that I used to get without additional charge and neither waitress informing me that these items had a charge. When I waited tables I was required by management (and my personal scruples) to inform a customer of any and all additional charges. Extremely unethical management and behavior! I couldn't help but notice that there were precious few tables tonight and the only other table on the patio was audibly unhappy with their meal. I have a sneaking suspicion that The Sedgley Place is no where near it's former glory and graciousness that it possessed when the previous owners operated it. I will not be back again. First off, I was married at Sedgleys so it holds a special place for me. I love the remodel but the food was not very good. I had the prime rib and the was a salty gravy over it so it was ruined. The vegetable soup was horrible. Could not eat it. The wait staff were miserable. Looked like they hated being there and it felt like you were bothering them to take away stuff from the table. Our waitress was pleasant but seemed hurried throughout the entire meal. The price was way too expensive for the quality of the meal. Sadly we won't be going there again. read more

You will be treated to 5 courses... so prepare yourself. Upon entering and checking in with the hostess, you can wait in a special room until they are ready to seat you. It's nice. There's a fireplace and a bar where you can get a brew or some wino. PUT IT ON MY TAB, REGINALD! On to the meal! STARTER: You get some crackers and a cheese spread. I had 3 as I didn't want to get too full on crackers! APP: The scallop chowder with bacon was unnnn-believable. I could have had a whole bowl of that and been on my way. But the cup they serve is just as fine, and leaves you excited to move on to the salad. SALAD: I went with the garden salad with HOMEMADE bleu cheese. AWEsome. ENTREE: I got the hickory smoked pork tenderloin with an apple-cranberry stuffing and drizzled with a cabernet blackberry reduction. Pretty amazing. The sweet potatoes that came with it tried to steal the show, however. They were so well seasoned that they melted in my mouf. Bravo, Chef Sedgley! I also tried the milet mignon wrapped in bacon. I started coming here with my parents for special occasions when I was a kid, and the most recent time was when I brought my fiancé home to meet the whole family (we live in San Diego). They did not disappoint! I always get whatever seafood they have. Their chowder is divine, and they have this seafood puff-pastry thing. Oh. My. God. It's so rich and delicious, I can never finish it, but it is not for lack of trying! Salad greens are always fresh and chilled, but my favorite part is that the sides are served a la russe (Russian style, meaning the servers come around with bowls and serve you directly). GET THE NOODLES, MMMMMMMMMMM!! Dessert never fails to make me find my "dessert stomach" (my brother's invention, even if you are full-to-bursting from dinner, there's ALWAYS room for dessert!), and have a few bites of something sweet and delicious. George L., I know you think you're totally worldly because you've left the state, but let me tell you: The Sedgley Place doesn't NEED all the stupid crap that you want them to have. They are completely different than any other restaurant I've been to (and I've been to many, all around the world), and the food is always top quality and presented beautifully.
