Normally I would give a higher rating than this because the food here is great but I was looking forward to enjoying their lunch pizza buffet as I had not enjoyed it since the pandemic. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, I was here and saw that they still do it on Fridays so I was excited to return. Fast forward to today and I learned that they no longer do it. They do have other specials, so I decided to go with another favorite: a meatball sub. Unfortunately, they had run out of meatballs and the night crew didn't make more before they left (we came shortly after they opened). Fortunately, the server was great and advocated to the manager on my behalf and they let me get a steak hoagie as a lunch special even though it is not one of the included items. We really do enjoy coming here and don't come as often as I would like. It can get loud in the evenings when school is in session as they play upbeat music and have a pool table. If you can't find street parking, not to worry, there's parking in the back. Experienced extremely classist and discriminatory treatment from the staff here. My friends were refused entry because they did not have student IDs, despite them being well above age to enter. They were told that it was "only students allowed" although we saw multiple people there with what appeared to be their parents or grandparents, as well as many people who appeared to be under age. My friends and I felt that this treatment was extremely discriminatory and classist, as they were refused entry simply for not being able to afford to go to college. My colleagues and I were famished and looking for a place to eat in the U.C. area of Cincinnati. Unfortunately with school no longer in session, many places were closed. We were fortunate to find Mac's and decided to give a try. Our waitress was Grace who was very friendly, but could have been a little more attentive. I ordered a pint of Rheingeist Truth only to be told the keg kicked. Pivoted over to Voodoo Ranger Juice Haze. I ordered the small garden pizza which was OK----not great. A colleague ordered the Nashville Hot Pizza and thought it was OK as well. I was told later that Mac's probably does wings and burgers better than pizza. The pizza is pretty good. I especially like the Fry pie, and there is a good variety of specialty pizzas. The staff is friendly, but service can be on the slow end, especially for take out. The atmosphere is fun, but very much feels more like a bar than a resturant, which may be a plus or minus depending how you look at it. They do have a pool table which is cool. The place gets very loud, especially on weekends, so if you want to eat and talk, I would go somewhere else. Overall, pretty good, but not as good as Adriaticos down the street. read more

Business wasn't busy- we were the only ones in the seats for quite awhile. The waitress wasn't familiar with their own drink menu- she argued with one of my seat mates on her drink order. First she told us they didn't make the drink- and my friend politely told her she'd ordered it there before. Then She told us they were out of the ingredients for the drink. She walked away and my friend went up to the bar on her own. Bartender made her drink as they weren't actually out of either tequila or mineral water... which tells me the waitress didn't actually ask. Then waitress didn't bring us our complete food order. I sat and watched the prepared food sat at the kitchen bar as she ignored most of it. She only brought one plate over and literally didn't bring any more. Eventually (after sitting with a friend for about 15 minutes) she came back and asked how we were doing and my friends were like- we don't have our meals, but have to leave so can we have our food wrapped to go? Mac's has to be my favorite pizza place close to campus! The atmosphere is really relaxed and it's has the feeling of a good ol' college pizza joint (without being messy). The pizza here is really good! Almost surprisingly good! They put a good amount of toppings on our pizza and it was pretty cheesy too (a must for good pizza). They also have a whole bunch of sandwiches and you can get a side of onion rings or fries if you want too! I find the best day to go is Wednesday because they have trivia at 8 and it happens to be at the same time as their happy hour too! Now the happy hour specials do tend to vary but it's always worth asking about! I'd recommended to anyone who likes good pizza!! read more

Somewhere along the way I heard mention of French Fry Pie, and I was 110% ready to give Mac's Pizza Pub a try. This restaurant is near the University of Cincinnati campus, so the dingy student bar vibe wasn't very surprising. There are three other locations around, so I'm not sure how they stack up. Mac's Clifton had plugs and USB ports at every booth, which was a really nice touch. They have a pretty expansive menu with apps, salads, sandwiches, and many specialty pizzas - even a couple of vegan options! On our first visit here, we ordered a side of onion rings [$2.49] and a medium French Fry Pie [$15.29 for Medium Specialty Pizza]. I was hungry, and I thought they would bring the rings out first, but they ended up bringing the entire order out like 20 minutes to a half hour later. At that point, I would have rather not received them at all. They were a bit too greasy, but it was a sizable side for the price point. The French Fry Pie, however, was soooo tasty. Definitely a bit on the heavy and rich side, but so worth it. It features their housemade Mt. Carmel beer cheese sauce topped with crispy waffle fries, red onions, tomatoes, mozzarella, provolone, and cheddar cheese, and it's finished with a sour cream drizzle. For our first order, we nixed the red onions, but we've since tried them on the pizza, and they don't overwhelm the flavor. After that solid experience, I left with a mental note that we needed to try them again - but this time try a more basic pizza. So, after a Sunday of kayaking, we picked up a couple of small pizzas from Mac's for lunch/dinner. We repeated the delicious French Fry Pie and also got a cheese and mushroom [Create your own 8" Cheese = $6.99 + Toppings = $0.75]. This pizza was very good - a good amount of cheese, fresh mushrooms, and a crisp crust complemented nicely with a light tomato sauce. The only disappointing part of this second order was the side of beer cheese we had ordered. It tastes too much like nacho cheese...which works well on the French Fry Pie, but is disappointing if you're looking to dip your pizza crust into some tasty beer cheese. That's not something we would order again. Verdict: LOVE. Possibly my new favorite place? My husband rates a 9/10. I don't love them for a dine-in experience, but I can't wait to get take-out from Mac's again! read more

The service at this restaurant is absolutely horrible. We waited over 45 minutes for our food to come out and half of it was wrong, our server didn't write down our order so she forgot a few things. We weren't given straws and had to ask for silverware about 5 times for our salads which came out with the rest of the meal. We were given the wrong size pizza and she said we could get another no charge. When the bill came we were charged twice when we asked about it she said there was nothing she could do. Was either an off-night for the whole bar or the new ownership since the last time I'd been there has only made cosmetic improvements, yet failed to help his staff succeed. I abided his demand, but later he came by and "accidentally" spilled half drank beers all over my brand new coat and Nike Vandals. When I asked to speak to his manager he ordered me to leave. Went to Mac's in the middle of an afternoon drinkfest cause we got hungry. While this wasn't my first visit to Mac's it was my first time going during happy hour. It was early afternoon and there was a decent sized crowd for a Friday. We opted to sit at the bar and were greeted right away by the busy bartender. All appetizers were 1/2 off with the exception of the Mac Snack (a mini deep dish pizza) and the wings (which I think is weird for happy hour). I ordered the loaded fries and a Mac Snack (it was only $3.50, no biggie) and my friend got the chicken & waffle fries and mozzarella sticks. Long islands were $2 and select drafts were only $1.50 so we kept on drinking. It took our food quite a while to come out for appetizers but the staff was apologetic and made sure we had what we needed when it did come. Who would have thought that Cincy would have an eatery that served vegan pizza? Located on W. McMillan in Clifton, Mac's is the typical college hangout that just happens to be right across the street from the Clifton Natural Foods Store, where it gets its supply of the Follow Your Heart vegan mozzarella cheese. Picks: Amongst the regular college bar food offerings, you will find the Vegan Pizza (small- $11.75, medium- $17.99, large- $19.75). Topped with mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, black and green olives and smothered with that shredded vegan mozzarella cheese. You can omit or add any toppings to your preference. They also have a Veggie Burger ($7.49), just your regular Boca burger that's grilled and topped with vegan cheese and comes with waffle fries. You can also get the Garrrrrlic Mushroom Burger ($7.49), with waffle fries. Highlights: If you're a vegan and end up at Mac's and you don't get the vegan pizza, then shame on you! Gripes: It's absolutely fabulous that Mac's offers the only vegan pizza in town, but they really need to learn the art of dealing with vegan cheese. The key to get vegan cheese to be all ooey and gooey, is all in the broiling. According to the manufacturer Follow Your Heart, vegan cheese melts the best when covered and broiled at a high temperature. Mac's failed to get that memo and their vegan pies always just seem to be topped with cheese that hasn't melted completely. So, if they take the time to do this one step, they'll have the perfect vegan pizza on their hands. This tip applies for their veggie burgers as well. Also, they only carry the vegan mozzarella and haven't invested in getting any of the other vegan cheese flavors such as cheddar, Jack, or nacho. It would behoove them to do so! Service could be quicker. Also, they have a all-you-can-eat pizza lunch buffet for $7, but it doesn't include the vegan pizza! They should definitely reconsider and include it. read more

When I got it home I discovered it was a soggy ham sandwich instead with maybe two slices of thin ham stuck between three slabs of texas toast with an obscene amount of mayo. The bread was dirty from an uncleaned flatttop. When I call to complain the manager basically tells me there's nothing wrong with what they served me and I can't have a refund. Really? Also the place is dirty, the music is ear splitting and the cook I picked up from wasn't wearing a mask. If you're in that area and want pizza or a sandwich do yourself a big favor and drive right past Macs til you get to Adriaticos. They have real food. Avoid this hole like the plague read more

To anyone who has dietary restrictions please be aware of this location. My wife and I came here tonight for the first time. She has a dietary restriction. It is not a choice, the consumption of dairy causes her to become very sick. We ordered a vegan pizza making sure the crust, cheese and sauce was vegan. When our waitress brought our pizza she assured us that she even double checked with the kitchen that the parmesan is vegan. My wife started feeling sick so we left. I called later to ask a manager to verify the parmesan is vegan. He told me they do not offer vegan parmesan. He began asking me questions to figure out who our waitress was. I wouldn't give her name or describe her because it was obvious she was not to blame. All the manager could do is blame the waitress who clearly tried very hard to make sure we had a good experience. I ask that the managers to have a discussion with their kitchen staff to ensure this does not happen to other customers in the future. Dietary restrictions should be taken seriously and are not always a choice. Because of the carelessness of the kitchen staff my wife will now be sick for days. read more

Had a really great pie from Mac's last week. I'd never been before and won't hesitate in the future. I got take-out, but I think I'll stay and eat in next time. It has a really good "College Pizza Joint" personality, and plenty of space for dining and bar patron-ing. There is a Pizza Buffet on Fridays (forgot the hours/price, but the price seemed cheap). They have shuffleboard and an internet jukebox.The pizza itself was fully loaded with toppings (more the merrier on my supreme), and the crust was hand-tossed with a good amount of chew.
