This was one of our first stops at Findlay Market this Sunday - Silverglades is a cheese store that also has associated goods like crackers, jarred things (pickles), etc. All of the cheeses looked fantastic but we didn't have a freezer pack with us (and were visiting from the Detroit area). We did end up buying some naan crackers, which are tasty, and some cheese curds. The naan crackers were Stonefire brand, I believe, and $5.99 - I saw them for $3.99 the next day at a different shop (Jungle Jim's), though. The pickles and other jarred goods also looked tasty here. This is a great place to pick up some delicious cheese when you're at Findlay Market. There are a LOT to choose from. It can be a bit overwhelming, especially when it's crowded. Speaking of crowded, I was confused about our number. I thought I knew what it was, so when our actual number was called we almost missed our turn. The person behind the counter was not especially thrilled that we couldn't keep track of our number and, as a result, slowed things down a bit. Silverglades is convenient when you're at Findlay Market. That said, I'm going to keep my eyes open for a other cheese shops in the city. read more

Clarifying a few things: Silverglades has, by far, the most extensive selection of cheeses and cured meats at Findlay Market. It's not even close. The Rhined offers a small but AMAZING assortment of boutique cheeses and meats and a nice, curated user experience. Inside the market, Gibbs has a solid lineup of the basics and is usually well staffed to turn an order quickly. Silverglades has a much larger inventory; they also have terrific deli items including house-made roast beef and delectable chicken salads. Fast service is not among their virtues, however. It's seldom an issue on weekdays, but will invariably lengthen your trip to the market during peak hours on the weekends. And as many other reviews note, the user experience may not always be front of mind. Though, like a number of legacy vendors here, they remember repeat customers and handle them with care. read more

I stopped by here with two other friends for lunch while on a day trip to Cincinnati. We decided to check out Findlay Market and after browsing around, figured the sandwiches here would hit the spot. The interior was clean and their cases were packed full of cheeses and meats. Apart from that there were other Italian things to buy, ranging from oils to jams to snacks. Despite us being the only ones in the shop, it took a while to get our sandwiches. The time seemed to go that much slower because we were all hungry. But I have to tell you, the wait was worth it. I got the Gracie Green - baked ham, baby swiss cheese and lettuce served with brusshetta topping on a toasted long roll with a pickle on the side. It was only $6.25 and it was so so good! Everything in the sandwich went together really well and the vinegar-y taste balanced the rest of the sandwich beautifully. I highly highly recommend this one! My friends got the Little Italy and Cincy Gobbler, also with a pickle on the side and both loved their sandwiches. There was some seating outside but considering it was cold and drizzling we took the sandwiches and popped into the main building (I think?) that had a seating area. Was a fan of their smoked chicken salad. But they have changed it up from having nice visible chunks of chicken to highly shredded, fluffed with lots of "non chicken" mayo etc. that it is no longer a stand out from ordinary commercially made chicken salad. Have never failed to feel like I was wasting their time when dropping a bill on their stuff. Hours here say 6:00 closing, door says 5:000 closing. We arrived at 4:42 after driving 60 miles and doors were locked. Looked inside and two customers being waited on and owner and employee see us attempt to get in through both entrances and say nothing. We have spent hundreds of dollars in this store on specialty cheeses in the past. It would have been nice if they opened the door and at least spoke to us. The reviews here are spot-on: horrific service, ok selection. Staff are grumpy and often take 15+ minutes to slice and weigh a single item. If you're trying to do some charcuterie, forget it. Generally, I'm pretty pleased with my experience at Silverglades. I ordered an Italian sandwich that was definitely a solid meal. There was a hefty amount of meat and toppings, and they were great in quality and in taste. We also got a side of the mustard potato salad, and it was VERY good! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the service was a little slow, and the workers weren't that friendly to customers. I realize this is a traditional deli where they don't have to be over-the-top with the service and friendliness, but they also should realize that their deli is in Cincinnati and not NYC. read more

You can get salami anywhere but the selection and quality of salami at Silverglades is unbeatable. They roast their turkey and you won't be disappointed with any of their meat products. Prosciutto, Serrano, they've got it. Liver pate with truffles is awesome. They also have a great selection of cheese. Sandwiches are an art form here and every one of them is delicious. I haven't been to Silverglades in years even though I know it is a lunch spot favorite downtown. I craved a hearty salad with "good" meat that wouldn't cost me $15 (it's crazy how expensive salads are becoming!), and 2 of my co-workers suggested that we make the trip to Silverglades. The place GETS CROWDED, so depending on what time you come, I think there is a 50/50 chance you will need to get your food to go. We had just ordered our food to-go when we lucked out and got a table. The soups, salads, prepared entrees and desserts looked delicious, but I was being virtuous and ordered a made-to-order salad. My salad was DELICIOUS, I made the mistake of requesting iceberg lettuce (not my favorite leafy green), but my salad was still good! I had chicken/bacon/artichoke type deal, and I was thrilled that the friendly lady behind the counter chopped it up so I got to taste all of the ingredients in each forkful. I also liked that she chopped/tossed salads in clean bowls each time, which is very nice for germ freaks (or people with allergies). My salad was $7.99, which was a great value for the big, hearty salad. There is also a tiny quick-mart component to the store, where you can get bottled beverages and minor groceries. I bought some Boar's Head sliced Cajun turkey breast this past weekend. I just got around to eating some of it for lunch today and was very impressed. The meat is thinly sliced the way I like it, but somehow most of the rub manages to stay stuck on the outside of each slice. Impressive and delicious! On top of the premier items they off everything else you need for a truly excellent sandwich. They have awesome bread from Shadeau, mustards, mayos, an awesome case of salads and great beverages to wash it all down with. This is the perfect one stop shop for all of your deli needs! It's a large deli and small grocery in one. I just got a regular roast turkey sandwich ($6.50ish I think). It wasn't special and I wasn't expecting it to be for the price. It was fresh and good, which is what I was expecting. It comes with a pickle. You take a number when you enter. The service was a little slow IMO. It's a little tight IMO but people wait it out so it can't be all bad. My experience was limited and brief but it's an average deli. read more

Silverglades is such a Cincinnati stable. They've been around for so long and have so many amazing options. They're well known, but there are still a lot of people who don't know about them. Before I moved to the city, I didn't know about their history but I'm so glad I do now. They are more than just a deli. When you go in you'll see full meal options that you can eat there or take home. They're also a grab and go type of place with chips, hummus, cheese, meat, wine, beer, etc. I love that they have two different locations in the city. They are both pretty busy but thankfully if one is out of something you can usually pretty easily get it from the other. They're well known for their traditional chicken salad, but one of my favorite options is the buffalo chicken salad. I've had many different forms of chicken salad but their buffalo version is so unique. I also love that they carry items that a lot of stores don't, like halloumi cheese. The staff is also great they take their time with you and don't rush you no matter how busy they are. This is one that you absolutely have to visit and browse around! read more

This Silverglades location is mainly a deli- there's not a ton of space to eat inside, but there's a lot of good food in there! It's a good stop to get your deli meat, cheeses, some bulk items, and other prepared foods. My favorite part is that they have some Shadeau breads. Our recent visit was on a busy Sunday afternoon, and I have to say, the staff seemed rather frazzled and it took a long time to get a few things. I saw one staff member start to have a little attitude to the lady next to me who was ordering. While to be fair, the order was a little complicated, I think some graciousness towards customers goes a long way. It didn't really seem to amount to the level of frustration exhibited. I like Silverglades' food....but I've started skipping it for other vendors. Two reasons: Look, I work. I usually go to Findlay on Saturdays...with my family. I understand I'll have to wait since this is their busy day, but I don't want to wait 30 minutes or more in a cramped space for my cheese. Call me a fast paced American - but there it is. They need to better staff the place at least on that day. The second reason is convenience and the overall lack of warmth the place projects. I've never been greeted with a smile. Last time I went there I came up a few bucks short of cash. I saw the credit card swiper right there and handed the lady my debit card. "No cards." she growled at me. "You should be able to pay with cash." Should? I thought. If I choose to charge $20 worth of Walnut infused brie or whatever that's my business, but I let the judgment pass. I motioned to the credit card swiper. "That's for WIC cards," she snapped. I had no idea what WIC cards were but my wife said "welfare". "So you're too snooty for my debit card but you'll take my money through other people's WIC cards?" That lead to some tut-tuting from customer holding their Whole Foods bags and NPR $50 member totes. Whatever...I took an item off the list and paid with cash. I'm a big supporter of mom-and-pop local businesses. But all too often mom-and-pop are a bit rude and set in their ways. read more

Ok, so the meats, cheeses and salads are pretty good. They have a good selection of sliced meats, particularly exotic cuts of salami. Unfortunately, it seems like the staff is never very friendly. The whole "What else?!?" attitude/response when you're picking out items gets old quickly. I won't even go in here when it's busy. Today I visited at 4:30 and was one of three customers. Regardless, the guy helping me out acted like I was bothering him by asking questions and pausing between selections. It's just unnecessary. He asked my female roommate if I had permission to add my chargers to "his" account, which is bad enough on its own, and then kept calling me sweat heart and darling in a very condescending manner. This is only a review based on customer service, because I was unable to purchase any cheese here. After waiting an extended amount of time to be called upon I asked if there were any cheeses that were similar to Parmesan that were vegetarian. The first person I spoke to did not know, she asked someone who appeared to be in charge, and with loud disdain he said, "We have no vegetarian Parmesan." When I followed up to see if he had any suggestions of other cheeses that were similar to Parmesan, that might be vegetarian, he responded grumpily, "We have no vegetarian cheeses." I know the request might be a little bit out of the ordinary, but especially in a market that has so many vegetarian options it seems a little odd to be treated so aggressively for a pretty reasonable request. I know I will not be bringing any business to the store in the future, and suggest to anyone who is vegetarian to save their time and skip it. read more

While Findlay Market is generally very lively, Silverglades has a weird quiet, serious, stifled atmosphere. No one was smiling anywhere. Probably because we were all dying of hunger and their service is slow. Finally, once the food did arrive, my turkey was very dry and the tomato was soft and dull. As most people have said, it gets absolutely crazy on weekends. If you can, I'd recommend going at off-peak hours for better (and quicker) service. The selection is great, and prices are fair. Boar's Head and the like run around $8/pound anywhere you get them, so why not support a local family-owned business? Just remember to bring cash! Alternatively, on weekends you can use a credit card at the visitor's center to buy a Findlay Market gift certificate which can be used at Silverglade's or other vendors. Silverglades is an incredibly busy storefront at Findlay Market. They have all the classic things you can find at nearly every other store in the market - meats, cheeses, salads (pasta, egg, etc.), and other sundries, but my favorite thing on offer there that is unique (as far as I've seen) is their extensive fresh olive and pickle bar. The spicy pickle is really fantastic. It was even good on a hot day, pickle juice dripping down my fingers and slightly burning my throat. Okay that's a gross picture, but the pickle it was incredible. The olives are stuffed with all kinds of things: cheese, pimento, other olives...just kidding. Silverglades gets very busy on the weekends. Usually my husband will grab a number and wait while I run other errands. On especially busy weekends, I get back before it's his turn to order. So I guess the fact that Silverglades is so popular that it takes forever to order keeps it from five stars. Anytime we throw a dinner party, we load up on their meats, cheese and olives for an amazing anti pasta tray. The mozzarella balls are perfect for bruschetta. They have great pancetta and prosciutto. Their bread comes from Shadeau Bakery and the sesame ciabotta bread is amazing. I usually end up taking a couple of bites off of the loaf on the way home. Buy some of their chicken salad with grapes and walnuts and you have a perfect lunch. Also, try the croissants and pretzel rolls and rye rolls. I just ate but know I'm getting hungry again. I've never paid too much attention to prices because I am there for the quality. I bought pancetta from Kroger once and I learned my lesson. read more

I've been working at Silverglade's at Findlay Market for about a month now. Just wanted to respond to a few of the reviews posted. I love working here!! I can say the staff works very hard to make shopping at Silverglade's a good experience. The employees and customers have all been very kind and friendly. We do take all major credit cards now, except for American Express. It does get crowded, especially on Saturdays. It seems to be slower early in the morning and when rainy. So those would be good times to come. Please take a number when entering the deli and you will be helped as soon as possible. You may have to wait a bit if the place is packed, however the food is definitely worth the wait. Everything I have tasted at Silverglade's is delicious. The Signature Walnut Grape Chicken Salad, the Roast Beef (which is roasted in-house), and the Irish Dubliner cheese, have become three of my favorites. I work on the weekends. If you're looking for deli meat and cheese Silver Glades is your place! There has never been a cheese that I needed that I couldn't find there. And their sandwiches are to die for. Their chicken salad sandwich is my favorite, but I always have a hard time deciding whether I want smoked or grape-walnut chicken salad on the sandwich. Fortunately I quickly learned there was no reason for strife: Silver Glades will make the sandwich with both (half on one side half on the other)! My other Silver Glades staple is the smoked blue cheese (called Moody Blue). It's unlike any other cheese I've ever had and is absolutely delicious! As a first timer to Findlay Market, we had a tough time figuring out what we wanted for a quick lunch. We stumbled upon Silverglade's and decided to give it a whirl. It was semi-crowded but they called our number quickly. After that, it all went downhill. The service was the worst. Not friendly at all! We ordered three deli sandwich's and it honestly took the man at least 15 minutes to make. It was absolutely ridiculous. When my friend asked if they had honey mustard dressing, he didn't even know if they carried it. Sandwiches were less than average and we will not be coming back again anytime soon. We tried savory, which was amazing, and the walnut and grape which was equally delightful. The sandwiches were gigantic we only ate half of each of our respective sandwiches..
