We had no idea what we were in for, but we sure were happy we stumbled upon this gem! Cozy, welcoming, and totally unpretentious. It's one of those places where you can feel fancy without feeling like you're trying too hard. And don't even get me started on the wine pairings... I found this spot because of Yelp and it is a cheese paradise! We found some nearby parking in one of the Findlay Market lots and walked over. The staff member was really nice and welcomed us in and asked if we had any questions. I was tempted by all the delicious cheese options, but opted for The Chopper because I'm a sucker for a good sandwich. From the street you wouldn't realize there's a whole back patio area and when the staff member told us I had to check it out and snap pictures. It was so cute and shaded, a great spot for a lunch or to hang out and enjoy some charcuterie with friends. We enjoyed sitting out there while my sandwich was being made and they brought it back to me. It was wrapped up so nicely and the chopped ingredients make it so every bite has a little bit of everything in it. So good! Love, love, love The Rhined! It's a great place to grab a glass of wine and a cheese plate with friends or a date. Every time I'm in there I end up trying new cheeses and bringing some home. They might have the best sandwiches in the city - totally crave-able. Cute patio on the back for nice weather and we've been to several events there that were great also. I love how the plates are curated based on what they have on hand & even by your flavor palette! They do ask preferences (so if you don't want a blue cheese, just say that ). I'm a cheese freak. I love all things cheese - so I was happy when we stopped in The Rhined while shopping in Findlay Market. I've read/heard great things and they were all correct. This place is awesome! Firstly, I need to point out the service. It was fantastic! The young man behind the counter greeted us warmly when we walked in and then enthusiastically described some of the cheeses they had in the case while we browsed, recommending some based on our tastes. We picked out 5 different cheeses - Bijou, Brabander Reserve - Black Betty, Prairie Breeze, Manchego and Rattlesnake. We also bought a small bag of Crostini and a small jar of jam, Cherry Habanero Jam. All of the cheeses are delicious! The jam is really good too. This place reminded me a bit of a neighborhood cafe in a small town in Italy. Pop in for quality meats, combined with cheeses and spreads to your sandwich with a glass of vino. With very minimal seating! Missing were more options to stand as you would down an alley in Rome. And the sounds of music in the background and servers aware of your every need. The Grinder is what carried the most weight of my rating because it was outstanding. Amazing! So many ingredients, flavors and textures that married together excellently and hugged the heart of this sandwich with the softest bread. We loved it! The second sandwich, whose name I already forgot competed with itself. It was too tangy and the combination of ingredients over-shadowed each other. The entire experience made no sense. The main reason it hovered a 3 was because of the service. I sat at the bar and watched 3 servers work, and I often had to ask for what i needed. Our drinks were never replenished or were we asked if we needed anything. We wanted to experience this place so we shared plates and had them delivered in courses. Yet, they only brought us one plate for two people. What? Our station was not pre-bussed either. And like Europe, we had to ask for our check. I got deli service with 4-star restaurant pricing. I'll consider returning in warmer temps to experience the bistro style seating outside in hopes the service is more client aware and delivers on the 4 or 5 rating many gave this place. read more

One thing I don't like about orange peel... is the Rhined. I mean rind. I know that this is the pride and joy of this area and I understand why because they do have an amazing selection of local stuff. But I was very spoiled by growing up in England where you can get some of the most amazing cheeses and meats you'll ever have in your life and they're a lot cheaper than this for the most part. Because of that I can never give a place like this five stars - however for the uniqueness and originality and local flavour I do give a 4. A lot of the local cheeses - to me - while their heart is in the right place - are more like two or three stars when you actually taste them compared to the stuff that I grew up with. I'm not into wine at all so I can't judge that but I can appraise the prices here and they are pretty high. Maybe in New York City or San Francisco this would be an average price place or even cheaper. But in Cincinnati it's expensive. And you can look at the demographics that are coming here and you can see for yourself that it's not a place for the majority of Cincinnati locals, especially people who live near OTR... it's a place for the well-to-do of Cincinnati. Flying the flag for gentrification and all. The stuff isn't particularly healthy for you either (I still don't think humans were meant to eat meats and cheeses, especially processed salted meats, but I still do sometimes and enjoy them), but having said that there are a few gems here if you look hard enough and it is an adorable shop and the people in here were friendly even though I didn't have the beard or tattoos to match the rest of the cool clientele. read more

They are so friendly and knowledgeable and kind. I always order a "cheesemongers favorite" board and tell them a cheese mood I'm in, and they ALWAYS come back with a perfect board for my current state of being. I have recently loved their fresh mozzarella nights and I come as often as I can. We went on a Wednesday night for the raclette, which is a wheel of cheese they put under a heater and it gets nice and melty and crispy then they scrape off the cheese onto your plate. They served it with a bit of salad on the side and the cheese was scooped on top of potatoes, veggies and ham. It was DELICIOUS! It could be enough for a small meal or a lite snack for two people. The only recommendation I would have is voicing any dislikes in cheese before ordering a flight of cheese so you don't get something you don't like. read more

My husband and I stopped in on a beautiful Saturday night around 7:00pm. We were in luck and snagged a little table on the back patio. The other guests were finishing up and we ended up having the patio to ourselves. I enjoyed a summer flight of wines and my husband a beer. This is going to be a first for me but I give this place 10 stars!!!! Our date night experience was the absolute best! Back story, we wrote a list out of places to go for Saturday date night and ended up dumping the one we picked at random and went to The Rhined instead. We followed our hearts and had the best time. We surprisingly had the place to ourselves so we sat at the bar to really get a good first experience. We ordered the Cheesemonger's Choice cheese plate with meat. For $17 we had an amazing assortment of three cheeses, one meat, pickles, mustard, house made pecans, plum jam, crostini, fruit and a side of gluten free crackers that my husband really appreciated. Totally got our money's worth of delicious food! Sitting at the bar had its perks. We had one on one convos with the wonderful ladies working about all things cheese and life in general. They made our experience so, so good. We came for the cheese and stayed for the conversation. We got to taste a few other cheeses including the house pimento and oh was it perfect. Very rarely do I tell my husband halfway through our meal that we have to come back again. He agreed! I appreciate the local brews you can enjoy with your board. While walking recently in the OTR neighborhood, I passed "The Rhined" and was instantly transfixed. "Who opens a cheese shop?" I heard someone ask skeptically as they passed. 'A genius,' I thought back. The counter was full of people buying cheese, and I headed in regardless of an inevitable wait. In the case that greeted me was a huge variety of cheese -- soft, hard, mild, pungent -- as well as a sprinkling of meats such as Speck and Sopresata. I could hardly read the flags fast enough that described each cheese and where it was from, most of them local. When it came my turn, I decided on the best way to get a real taste of the place, and went for a snack pack. Wedges of Prairie Breeze cheese in one compartment, delicate slices of Sopresata in another, tangy mustard, figs, and apricots in the third, then crispy Crostini to round it out. It was the perfect blend of flavors, textures, and portion size for a snack or small lunch. On my next trip to Cincinnati, I will make sure to include a stop at The Rhined. If I lived in Cincinnati, this place would be my weekly jam. If you know me, there are very few cheeses I don't enjoy. However, I will stick my nose up at a cheese cubes. And, fur the record, I grew up on Velveta. This cozy little spot in the Over the Rhine neighborhood across from Findlay Market is home to top notch cheeses from the Midwest and beyond as well as charcuterie, and accoutrements like local jams and pickles. The space is tiny and only allows probably 20 people tops, but that's part of the appeal. You'll find a variety of artisan cheese boards ranging from those that focus on Ohio-only cheeses to those that are specifically focusing on the type of cheese like Bleu, stinky, soft, etc. As a Hoosier, I was delighted to see several Indiana products on the shelves like Home Ec jams and preserves (highly recommend!). The Rhined offers a wide variety of wines and beers to accompany your tasting and the staff is extremely friendly and passionate about the product. Can't wait for my next visit. read more

I'm a sucker for a flight, wine, beer, vodka heck even syrup (that's a real thing at a place aptly named Syrup in Denver) so when I heard this place had cheese flights I braved the Blink traffic to come test it out. I was not disappointed! The owners are kind and willing to speak with you about anything on the menu. That's cool because this place is a retail shop in addition to a cheese lovers dream restaurant. We did the favorites and soft flights and while the cheeses were yummy, my favorite was the candied pecans that are served as an accompaniment (YUM!). Completely blown away by my experience with The Rhined. Due to COVID, my work team was unable to meet for our quarterly team outing. The Rhined's virtual charcuterie board class was the perfect alternative. The Rhined was able to supply each of us with a kit for our class. We were able to pick up the kit at one of two very convenient locations: OTR or Oakley Wines. I chose OTR, based on my home residence. Stephanie did a wonderful job hosting our virtual class making it both fun and engaging. Highly highly recommend! But the year before COVID with all the new restaurants downtown I had the pleasure of trying many different charcuterie boards. I'm loving this new experience. I stopped in Rhined as I've been dying to see what it was all about. The ladies were so kind and most helpful. I asked for a cheese with a hint of sweet and the other I purchased was a mix of blue cheese and cheddar. Both were very good. The slightly sweet one , Midnight Moon was exactly what I was looking for. I also picked up a pack of figs. I've had heard rave reviews of The Rhined. I mean, it's a cheese shop with excellent wine pairings. I am also convinced I need to give this a second go. I went with a group of friends on Raclette night, and I don't really suggest it. I walked in and was hit in the face with an odd smell and the space was so hot. To make raclette, there is a lot of cheese cooking in the back and it was evident The Rhined was not set up for adequate ventilation. My wife and I split a raclette order, and it was only okay. The cheese was great, but the greens, potatoes, and meats below seemed cheap and store bought. It left a lot to be desired. They also served it in paper. All would be okay if the raclette was not $12. Just too pricey for what I got. However, I will return another time to try their main dishes. The cheese and wine itself didn't seem overly expensive and I'd love to give it a go. Just avoid Wednesday nights, that's when they roll out the raclette. read more
