Just had a wonderful lunch at Mac's Place. They have a new chef, Chris, and she knows her way around the kitchen. I had salmon cakes on greens with an avocado/chipotle aloi that was the best that I have in a very long time. Her soup creation of pobalo, chicken and rice was also outstanding and so good on this chilly day. Megan, my waitress was quick, happy and a great server. I am definitely going there again and again. My husband and I have been to Mac's twice and each time the service was terrible. The first time it seemed like the waitresses just wanted to talk between themselves than to take food orders. The Second time we sat outside was there aprox 10-15 minutes before we could flag down some help, it was the cook cleaning tables outside. Who was cooking the food???? Waitresses always seemed to have better things to do than take orders or give us direction on the menu items. After 30 minutes of never seeing a waitress we left. Don't think we will try again, all the people I work with, socialize with and deal with have had similar experinces. I don't recommend Mac's to anyone, there are too many struggling businesses in Silverton to have people spend hard earned money on such terrible service. read more

First time here eating. Mac's is a bar mostly then a restaurant. My review is about the food. We had their fish and chips plate. Fish tasted great, nice and crunchy, the fish tasted like cod. 3 average size pieces. The fries were something to die for. They are SPECIAL. WHATEVER you order, order fries. The fries come with a red looking sauce. Mighty Tasty. Cole slaw was first rate. We went during lunchtime when the place is not crowded; but this is an extremely interesting place. BTW. Our experience happened on Sunday, July 28th around 2pm. The service was absolutely horrible! I am a server and bartender myself. When asking our server about their beers, she replied with, "a couple of this, a couple of that, Coors Lite, and Hef..." (Not a good sales pitch, but my husband and I wanted a beer.) We then checked out the menu, it was our first time there. We asked a couple of questions, to which our server replied, "I dont know," and immediately walked away. I get being busy, but wow, so rude! Upon ordering, we asked for ranch and buffalo sauce. It didnt come with our meals, so eventually when she came back we asked for it. No response (No, 'oh yes, thats right, you asked for that, I'll be right back'), infact she rolled her eyes and left the table shaking her head. We didn't get our sauces until half way through the meal. Once we finished, we waited and waited for our check. We were frustrated by then, so we went inside to pay. It looks as though they were severely understaffed. (We gave our server a couple of sympathy points.) While waiting for our change we examined the cook doing his work. He grabbed bacon with bare hands (both of them), laid it on the grill, gave them a quick wipe on his chef coat, then continued grabbing raw onions, raw mushrooms, and shredded cheese. ALL OF THIS WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS AFTER TOUCHING RAW MEAT!!!! CROSS CONTAMINATION AT ITS FINEST!!!!! My husband and I thought the menu looked great, but after the horrible service and disgusting sanitary issues in the back of the house, we will never be back! Not great, not bad; lunch was just so-so. The better bet is breakfast. Nice thick bacon, eggs to order and great hash browns. Wait staff were pleasant and accommodating. We've lived in Texas so we have had lots of bbq in our day. The smoked turkey they make in-house here is no joke. Like mouth-watering delicious, perfect amount of smoke. I had the turkey reuben and it was to die for. Added fries, lightly breaded hand cut with some blackberry (I think) ketchup? Drool. Husband had jalapeno bacon mac n cheese and declared it was absolutely worth the calories. They also had lots of fun cider/beer on tap, I chose a blackberry cider, didn't catch the maker, but it was delicious. Our service was great, super sweet lady helped us out, food came quickly to the gorgeous outdoor patio overlooking the bubbling creek to our fun bench/table with our personal outdoor heater. It was okay, the food wasn't too bad. Fries were really good, the burger was delicious. If I was rating for food only I would give it a five. The waitress appeared to be the only person working which made it hard to get your beverages refilled. When she did come by it was a quick dash. I'm not quite certain what has happened with some of the bad reviews, but perhaps things have changed since some of the comments. Mac's is owned by the Wooden Nickel which has a few other bar/restaurants in the vicinity. Yes, it is a bar and no it would not be my first choice to bring in little kids. That being said, we just had breakfast there (a new addition to their menu by the way - plus they serve it from 9-Noon, 7 days a week). It was reasonable, delicious, and our coffee cups were kept full. We both had variations of their 4 EGG (yep 4 eggs!) scrambles. I had mushroom (yummy fresh ones, maybe crimini's), green onions and cheddar, and hubby had bacon, spinach and feta. We both left happy and full. Mac's is a very cool place with good pub food and microbrews on tap. If you like rustic, small town places, you'll love Mac's! read more

Awful food & customer service. Savannah was our waitress and very rude and was acting as if we were incompetent. After waiting 25+ for our food we finally received our greasy burgers. They were so greasy just biting into them grease would run down your hand. While I was eating lunch I started to feel really sick to my stomach so I got up to go to the restroom and I barfed everything up. Savannah was very condescending and acted as if I was lying about getting sick. When she brought us the bill she stated "I compt your burger since you immediately got sick." But she still charged us .80 for the cheese -which I'm pretty sure I threw up too. But at that point I wasn't feeling well and just didn't feel like arguing. My two friends that went with us also started to feel ill after their meals. As if the food itself wasn't good the service was even worse. If you like eating greasy undercooked food & being mocked by your waitress than this is the place for you! If not I recommend one of the Thai places down the street. read more

Didn't get to experience this place. I went years ago so wanted to try it again. My fiancé and I stopped by and we were kindly greeted when we walked in. Tried sitting outside, which was packed, no worries. Went back inside and sat in the bar. We were never once acknowledged. The bartender glanced up and two waitresses walked by, nothing. They weren't busy. We decided to leave and the same bartender who nicely greeted us, and then ignored us in the bar, nicely told us to have a great day. Mac's Place has the bones - great location, charming down-home local feel, adorable blue felt pool table in the back, lots of room inside, and prime outdoor seating along the river for sipping ice cold beers on those warm summer afternoons. But, maaaan, does the service suck! Stopped here last week after a hike at Silver Falls, found a seat out back but got stuck with the crummiest waitress I've had, I think, EVER. She seemed like a flustered one-task-at-a-time kind of waitress, maybe new. Every time we asked her something as she walked by, she'd walk right on past us, leaving us staring at eachother in bewilderment. We moved ourselves over to a sweeter corner table, as we didn't want to risk losing it to any anxious diners. The table hadn't been cleared off, so we stacked the plates, and pushed it to the end of the table to make it easier for her. We were displeased when she cleared the empty table next to us w/out even stopping by the mess right in front of us. After disappearing for about 10 min, she finally came back for the plates but didn't bother to wipe down our table. Yuck. We ordered a salad and a burger with fries. Tick tock...after about 30 minutes, we finally had to ask her to at least bring our salad. The waitress said the cook was slammed, but this was ridiculous. When we finally got the rest of our food, we found it was decent in taste, but flimsy in portion. Furthermore, 15 minutes after I ordered my second beer and watched her take and deliver drink orders at other tables, the waitress came back to ask if we'd ordered anything else. Ohhhhmigod....At this point, my cheerful smile has disappeared and my patience has worn thin. Between waiting for service, food, and beer, it took us about 2 hours to get out of there. My friend and I went for lunch today. We were totally ignored for the longest time. We started to leave when a grumpy young girl came and rudely asked what we wanted to drink...no menus. We had to get our own from the bar. A long time later she came to take our order. I had the shrimp basket, my friend had the fish basket. Neither were even edible. They were worse than frozen food from the dollar stores. We had to call her to get our check. We paid the bill and left, no thank you no nothing. Obviously we will never return. I handed the server my card when we first got there. When I went to pay the tab, they said that I never gave them my card. Eventually the bartender said we could go even though I didn't have my card still and they still had not received a payment. She kept telling me that there was an ATm right there. Um, remember my card is still missing??. I am not quite sure what her mal-function was. Perhaps she had been drinking on the job? In that time the bartender or one of her friends called the cops saying there was a fight. You know what is funny about this though? The person that I was with didn't have any identification on him. We were both served alcoholic beverages that night. And the cops didn't even realize that the bar broke a huge law when his lack of identification was acknowledged when we were being questioned. Terrible service. I had black chunks in my water glass that I can only hope were pepper. Served one member of our group of 4 about 15 minutes before the rest of us, got 2 out of 4 orders wrong and took another 20 minutes to correct it. Inattentive service - mediocre food. Went in at about 9pm and it took 10-15 minutes before anyone brought a menu, and then the waitress disappeared. Finally had to go to the bar and order a pizza. Menu says allow 15 minutes for a pizza. After waiting 30 minutes, had to go track someone down to see where the order was. Took them another 10 minutes to come up with it, and it was pretty mediocre pizza. When it came time to pay, we had to run down someone to bring the check. Won't be back. So I'm torn about this review. Some of the food we ordered was good...others just "meh". First off, the coleslaw is garbage. I'm pretty sure it was just cabbage and Miracle Whip. No real taste, just plain blah. We ordered the Pulled Pork and Brisket sandwiches, which were pretty darn good. Original Mac N Cheese was nice and creamy and had good flavor. More green onions would've been nice though. BBQ sauce had nice spice to it. Hoagie rolls were fresh and very tasty. Now for the bad...other than the coleslaw. The waitress was less than attentive being that there were only 2 occupied tables in the place. She took forever to check on us, leaving my glass empty for quite some time. I had also asked for more sauce that took forever to get as she got side tracked talking to an obvious regular at the bar. It was pretty warm in the place too. All in all 3.5 stars for everything food wise (except the slaw of course) & 2 stars for the service. read more

Absolutely positively horrible! After 30 minute wait, waitress asked if we needed refills, as if we needed flat no carbonated nasty drinks. Within the next 20 minutes waitress twice said, "almost ready". After another 30 minutes pass, we get the excuse, "new cook" as another went home sick the day before & we responded with, "no prob". Later, perhaps 15 minutes later, we were told ticket had been lost but they would start the order. Needless to say, we were out the dirty & very dusty door. My dog wouldn't eat there. There are many great places in Silverton & I must say, "my bad" for taking out-of-state guests to a place I have been warned about many times. I was really excited about getting the mac'n'cheese because I hardly ever allow myself to eat it, even though it's my favorite dish. We just went on an 8 mile hike so I figured I deserved it...well, although mac gets +1 for putting fresh (not canned) jalapenos on the mac, I deduct 2 points for the cheese sauce...it just wasn't what I was looking for. Creamy but not flavorful. I am a bit of a food snob so most people would probably be satisfied with it, but I left feeling disappointed. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting though, and the price was right. I guess I shouldn't expect gourmet so maybe it's me, not Mac. My fiance got the veggie burger which was ok, and my sister got the salad which she liked. The server wasn't very on point, and she counted her tips while our food was waiting in the window-for at least 5 minutes, but overall the experience was ok.. If you're searching for gourmet food, don't go here. If you don't mind some barfood, and shooting some pool, this is your place. read more

We were on our way to hike at Silver Falls and needed some lunch. With a picky 8 year old we skipped Gather for Macs. May have been a mistake. The food is ok. Just ok. And we didn't go crazy. Burgers, fries, veggi burgers. Just all ok. There were about 3-4 tables full and our server was a bit scattered. There are video games in back which was fun. The food here is very good, the servings are large, and the service is good. The pool table costs extra but it was an excellent feature that offset the only drawback, which was the wait. We eat here maybe once a month or so. Have been there for music, comedy, and dinner. Tried the fish sandwich last time, one of the best I have ever had. Freshly fried, probably hand breaded, certainly not a square patty of junk fish from the freezer. With a rustic atmosphere complete with hardwood floors, "old timey" decor and a gorgeous and a spacious patio overlooking Silver Creek, you'll never feel more at home than here. I highly recommend the Mac and Cheese, as well as anything else on the menu (which is suprisingly well rounded, including some great New Orleans inspired dishes!!) And if live music is your thing this place has got it COVERED in that department as well! With a range of talented and unique artists that roll through here on the regular from Portland and other more high profile areas, even the most sophistacted music snob will find themselves tapping their foot on a Saturday night.
