Hello! What just happened? We toodled downtown Salem to participate in Salem Burger Week, and our first stop was Wolfhounds Bar & Grill. The establishment is lovely; the decor is modern and clean with cute Wolfhound art featured throughout. We ordered the featured Jalapeño Popper Smash: two smash patties with habanero ghost pepper jack cheese, pomegranate bacon jam, cream cheese spread, serrano aioli, and pickled jalapeños on a toasted pretzel bun. While we waited, we sipped on a well cocktail. The burger was incredible--innovative and very well thought out. The service was prompt and engaging. We walked in on a whim for our first visit -- no homework, no planning. We will definitely return. Ambiance: comfortable, both cool and cozy. Music was excellent; audible but not intrusive. Comfy chairs. Lower lighting, well placed. Service was excellent, friendly and fast. I think our server's name was Mikayla; a gem. Attentive and observant but never intrusive. Drinks: my old fashioned was absolutely perfect and my husband's margarita was fine. Appetizers: beer cheese was well balanced and a bit runny, which I prefer over the library paste version some places serve. The elotes dip was a standout, mildly spicy, with lime in the cilantro, and warm, crispy chips. (Whatever is in their seasoning for chips and fries should be sold separately -- I wanted to try it on everything.) We probably should have stopped there, as the portions were abundant, but our mains were amazing. Smash burger was insanely juicy, nice and onion-y with a few Crunchy Brown Bits around the edges. The roll was fresh and tender, with a good crust; flavorful, not just a shingle. The fries were the best I've had in Salem. Get the garlic-thyme upgrade; you won't regret it. My ribeye was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately they were out of both compound butters, apparently due to a busy Friday, but everything was well seasoned. The vegetable of the day was roasted Brussels sprouts with a sweet-and-salty sauce, almost like kettle corn; amazing. The outer leaves were caramelized without being burned, and the hearts were tender but not mushy. Crispy fried onions were perfect. Fried potatoes were fine, and enriched by their placement between the steak and the sprouts. The diners who came in before us were all smiles when they left, so it wasn't a fluke. It was pricey. But i feel like the food is worth it!! The Nashville mozzarella sticks were bomb!! We straight went in. Almost didn't take a picture because it was so good. The burgers were perfectly cooked and the garlic rosemary fries were to die for. They have great ranch here and a spicy sauce, I can't remember what it's called. The only thing that made this place of four stars for me is that the drinks are very small for the price they are. Customer service was amazing. We came in an hour before closing were the last ones there and they treated us so well. I would definitely go back and try other foods! read more

We ordered 4 Burgers 3 wolfhounds and 1 The Shepard I thought i took pics of them but I just ate them lol. We took it to go after a long day of shopping and it hit the spot. Havnt had a real burger in a long time wished I took pics, but im sure there are pics on here of their burgers. They are decent sized delicious and fresh. Took a bit to get them but worth the wait. Not to mention I loved the seasoned fries with parm and thyme. They we so good! The service was awesome also we came at a slow time and they let us wait at a table gave us water. The place was clean smelt good and had a great vibe. Loved the way they put this place together ill have to come back for some drinks and try some more of their food. My wife and I stopped by today (Saturday) for lunch as the place opened at 11:30. Not many other patrons yet so our server was able to give a lot of attention and excellent service as a result. Food was great. I hade the chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and my wife had the smash burger with tater tots. Everything had interesting spices and cooked perfectly. First time here - our server was very nice & knowledgeable. She was the only server, though, so we didn't get drink refills and had to wait for quite a bit, but that wasn't her fault and more of a lack of staffing. One couple did get up and walk out after being seated for about 20 minutes without getting their order taken or waters brought out. The food was pretty good, but needed salt for sure. The tortellini & the Brussel sprout appetizer were the best things we ate. The vibe was cool with the brick walls and the subway tiles and low lighting and windows to downtown. Wolfhounds is hands-down one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the service was absolutely incredible -- warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. We even had the chance to chat with the chef's wife, who I think co-owns the restaurant, and she couldn't have been kinder or more helpful. The food was next level. The Caesar salad might honestly be one of the best I've ever had, the pretzels and cheese were out of this world, and the burger was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Every dish felt like an elevated take on classic bar favorites. The drinks deserve their own shoutout -- my sister's whiskey sour was simple perfection, and my gin cocktail was just as delicious as it was beautiful. I've been recommending Wolfhounds to everyone I know who's looking for a new spot to eat or grab drinks. Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. Ordered the garlic thyme fries and they were to die for. They play a mixture of music from the 1990s and 2000s. The services always paid mind to turn my drink would get low and ask if I wanted it refilled. I currently cannot drink, but I'll definitely be back when I can do I can try their cocktails. read more

Friendly staff. Good food. Good drinks. Enough said. But if you're looking for more, here it is. This place has a very relaxed atmosphere. The menu is a little small, but their food is cooked with a care and zeal that will make your mouth water when you receive your food. Their menu prices are on the moderate side so if you're looking to dine cheap, this is not your place. However, with that being said, the high quality of this place is quite refreshing and is getting increasingly hard to find. And in my opinion, is qualified to be labeled as one of Salems hidden gems. read more

First off I wanted to try a new restaurant in Salem Oregon, so I googled and Wolfhounds Bar and Grill showed up. I was intrigued that It mentioned they had happy hour between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 pm. So I get there about 2:30 pm and thinking I'm going to get in on the special for their chicken wings, so as soon as I walk through the door there was only one person running the bar, taking the orders for both people sitting at the bar, sitting at a table for both inside and outside the restaurant. She told me right off the bat that there is no happy hour today ( this was on a Sunday). So, I'm thinking maybe this is to prevent price wars and overconsumption amongst relatively newer restaurants in Salem Oregon, I get it. Being disappointed, I figured while I'm here and hungry, I was going to order my chicken wings. I go ahead and order the chicken wings (Buffalo style) What stood out right away was the price (18.00 ). I'm thinking If I'm going to pay $18.00 dollars I'm going to get a suitable amount of wings ( at least 8 or so ). The one man band ( The multitasking woman) brought out my order, to my disillusionment it was only 6 chicken wings. Feeling cheated and suffering from a case of buyers remorse, ( At Buffalo Wild Wings you can get 6 wings for $11.50, with better quality). So, in closing newer restaurants in Salem Oregon need to get their facts straight in regards to happy hour advertising, give the consumer a better value for their money, and don't run a business understaffed, otherwise they'll be another statistic in the Statesman Journal. read more

The food is very well seasoned correctly. I felt the portions were perfect! My service was spot on and friendly. Our server knew the menu and knew what the kitchen was sold out of. First time going there. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was great and fairly priced. The service was great as well.

Great food and drinks. Small but diverse menu, our party of 6 enjoyed our meals and all got different things. Our only complaint was the lack of staff. One waiter for the whole restaurant. Fortunately we got there early enough that we didn't miss our show. read more
