We had an exceptional experience at Magnolia Grill tonight. For appetizers, we had both the zucchini blossoms and the brussel sprouts. The blossoms were good but the brussel sprouts were absolutely yummy- crispy crunchy with a mustard sweet chili sauce that was just the right flavors to add depth to the dish. For cocktails we tried the smoked peach old fashion which were dangerously delicious. Oh the entrees...words are inadequate to describe how good the entrees were. The pork chop and beef medallions entrees were so tender and flavorful and cooked to perfection. The chimichurri on the beef medallions was vibrant, herbaceous, with a little spicy heat. My friend had the pork chop and she said it was the best she has had. Food aside, the Magnolia Grill wait staff were phenomenal. We were greeted warmly and immediately once in the door. We were seated right away and the ambiance of the restaurant is very welcoming. The staff were attentive, professional, and friendly. We had the best service we've had in a restaurant in years. I would definitely recommend 100%. This was our first visit but will not be our last! read more

Not a bad choice - room is nice, service is fine, menu has a reasonable range of choices, decent wine list - the cocktail list is kind of amazing, some very interesting choices. So, food quality is just fine, came quickly, well cooked- so nothing to complain about there either. And it does offer a choice if you might be sick of the small town vib. My only complaint is the pricing. Partner and I generally eat at restaurants in Portland. When we are at our place outside silverton we generally don't eat out. Nothing wrong with this place but it's very middle of the road good. Food price, in my opinion is too high for the quality. read more

A friend and I are on a girls' trip to Silverton. After asking a couple of really nice people in shops along North Water Street for recommendations, we settled on Magnolia Grill -- and we are glad we did. First of all, when we entered we were greeted by Vanessa who turned out to be our server. What a lovely young lady!!! She represents Magnolia Grill very well. We entered and selected a booth across from a beautiful and GIGANTIC stone fireplace. (It must be stunning in the winter.) Vanessa makes great cocktails from scratch. I had a large Cosmopolitan that was absolutely delicious. My friend has a Margarita that said was also delicious. We ordered the mushrooms stuffed with Italian sausage with al fredo sauce. Yummmmmmmmmm. Then we ordered the taco plates: 3 salmon and 3 prawn tacos. Since we ordered one of each, we switched some so we had a mixture. Yummmmmmmmm. We were very happy with all aspects of our dinner PLUS the other diners were absolutely warm and welcoming. In fact, everyone that we met today is Silverton was very friendly. I came downstairs for a quick little bite and a cocktail and was greeted so warmly by the staff. Lovely and amazing solid labradorite bar had me mesmerized, but then I received my bacon wrapped dates and caramel apple mule and I was properly distracted. Excellent service, beautiful plating and presentation and entirely professional but absolutely warm and welcoming staff. They truly made my impromptu getaway worth it! A great combo in the Silverton Inn & Suites (thank you, Matt) and the wonderful Magnolia Grill. We'll be back many, many more times. read more

The Magnolia Grill is a beautiful little restaurant. I was looking for something quick to-go so I could get to a nearby excursion, and I fortunately stumbled upon it. While I waited for my order of AMAZING brisket tacos, I looked around the dining and bar area. Some places have a " je-ne-sais-quoi ", and Magnolia's got it. It's a nicely designed space; I wish I had more time so I could have enjoyed dining in. I believe it was the restaurant manager who took my order at the bar. She was so friendly, professional and helpful. I took my tacos and lemonade to go. Wholly Moly! They were delicious. I highly recommend Magnolia if you're in the area. Enjoy! read more

Knew it would be 5 stars from the first 60 seconds after we walked in (proof that first impressions DO matter). We came at an odd time (late lunch/early dinner), so we had the whole place to ourselves. The staff treated us like good friends and even turned on the fireplace just for our family. Also the Christmas decorations were gorgeous! Food was great, very flavorful. I love quesabirria tacos, so of course I had the quesa birria burger, which was insane in the best way possible. So cheesy and meaty, and it tasted great dipped in the consume. I'm picky about fries but these were GOOD. I insisted in trying everyone else's pick (for science!) and everything was top notch Beautiful, intimate little restaurant with very tasty food. Highly recommend. read more

Truly delicious food, wonderful service, and great ambience. So why only 4 stars? To be honest, each dish should be about $5 less across the board. We have been sitting for 45 minutes and haven't even gotten water. We are here to celebrate a birthday. It isn't fun. The food is good. Service is ridiculously terrible. It would be comical if I wasn't hungry. We talked to two waitresses. Finally we received water, which is nice after watching other people wet their palates while we shrink from dehydration. I don't know, just don't come here if you want food at a decent pace. It's a nice place if you like to watch other people get their food and drinks. read more

I've had seven plus meals here including dinner, happy hour and Sunday breakfast brunch. In my opinion the Breakfast Brunch was probably the only time that I was truly excited. The marginal experience for the price paid for dinner left less than desirable feelings. It's not that the food is horrible, but when you're paying $29 to $35 for entrees you have an expectation. Their chicken in the Alfredo is great, but the fettuccine alfredo sauce itself is horrible and the portion is ridiculously small. Not one single plate had perfection. When you're serving asparagus, don't include the white part on the bottom because you can't eat it. And for $30 don't expect me to figure out which part is tough and then make the determination to cut it. That's the job of the chef. The beurre blanc was not good and the salmon was so dry it was difficult to eat. I did not take pictures of every single food item that I ordered, but I've included a few of the dishes that I've talked about. Their fish tacos were amazingly good, but then they serve onion rings that are obviously store bought. This chef is all over the board and I actually think hes got some talent, but he needs to pick a direction. That and I don't think he has a complete staff that is capable of execution. read more

We celebrated our 8th Anniversary this evening at Magnolia. This was our first time dining at Magnolia. We had a great experience. Great customer service, food, and atmosphere. Definitely a worth a try if you're you find yourself in Silverton! I ordered the special which was delicious. I also heard the burger was great too. The rotating cocktail flight, which was lemon drop themed was also great. The downside was service, but it could have just been the person we got and not a reflection of the entire staff. We ordered the Queso Fundito appetizer (delicious) at the same time as our drinks. After waiting 20 minutes and finally our waitress came back around, we asked. There was a "miscommunication with the kitchen" but she offered to comp it which was nice. At the end of the meal we weren't offered a dessert menu or if we wanted dessert. But my company usually raves about their dish but I'm so into my own that I fail to see what options they ordered. My kids love to go, it's usually busy, which is a good sign. We soooo wanted to love this place, the menu sounded great. I ordered a special entree dinner salad with and add on order of prawns. It was supposed to come with strawberries, watermelon, hazelnuts and feta cheese. All four items were present on a large mound of greens. The watermelon was one square singular bite of watermelon sliced into very thin slices placed at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock on the greens. The strawberries were one strawberry sliced into four thin slices and placed in the same fashion in between the watermelon on the plate. The feta was almost nonexistent except for tiny dots where it slightly smudged a leaf here and there. The prawns (5) tasted like they had been steamed in water w/o seasoning. The thrill of my evening meal was when I found the hazelnuts (6?) under the greens, they were, by far, the tastiest bite on the plate. He is a hungry guy so he ordered: Ravioli w pesto dinner, added on a dinner salad, added on a piece of salmon, two drinks and panna cotta w mango topping and coffee. The ravioli were tiny and the sauce seemed to be marinara NOT pesto and there were VERY FEW ravioli maybe 3-4, the salmon piece was large, but once again (?) steamed w/o seasoning, lots of zucchini w/o seasonings, and he loved the pannacotta. The check comes and we receive one customer copy of our bill and one copy of someone else's to-go order. Our wait person is no where to be found so we finally wave down a different wait person, she says she'll take care of it, but nothing happens. No check-no wait person. Long time later our server shows up we explain the problem and she says she needs the credit card to swipe it again. More time goes by....EVENTUALLY she shows up says it's handled. Arrived early, before any Friday rush. Chicken Marsala was a couple small pieces of meat, mashed potatoes , both hard to find under Campbell mushroom soup. We've been here before and it was good but today... not. I might ask ask for sauce on the side if I went back and got something , but I wouldn't probably get the chicken Marsala. Now for the food-- Chicken Marsala - 5/5 We absolutely loved it! Generous portion and the chicken was moist and well seasoned. The sauce was creamy and full of flavors, goes perfectly with the chicken. The mashed potatoes and asparagus were also yummy. Cheese and Potato Taquitos - 3/5 Not very impressed. Had dinner there tonight with my Bestie. The food there was amazing. Had the margarita flight decks with mango meant, coconut, lime, spicy tamarind and ginger pineapple. The brisket was melt in your mouth and the blue cheese mashed potatoes were perfect! The duck was amazing! The bacon wrapped dates with goat cheese, and balsamic vinegar were delicious! The staff was friendly and very attentive. Well worth the money spent. The desserts were to die for! Crème brûlée and Marionberry Panna cotta were so good! Great vibe and awesome atmosphere! Stopped by for dinner after the Christmas Market and was a lovely little find! The atmosphere was warm and decorated for the holidays so you felt like being in a fire lit Christmas home setting. The staff were all nice and made sure to bring cheerful energy to everyone. The food was hit or miss, but I think it was just slightly off on the misses and so good on the hits that I would definitely go again if in the area and recommend for someone to try, just read reviews and pick things that others have also said they do really well. The hits were: - Chorizo clam appetizer: Get this. It was amazing. It had the subtle spice of the chorizo, but with the perfect acidic balance that set all the flavors nicely. The clams were cooked perfectly and there were generous portions of chorizo. The serving was entree sized and easily split with our family. The garlic bread it comes with was also outstanding and we would have ordered a basket of that to have extra for the broth because it was devoured (they kindly brought us more, but it comes with only two pieces at a time so if you order this, I do suggest asking if you can pay to have more bread). - French fries: may seem silly but their fries were so good. They had the perfect crisp exterior that has a little thickness and texture to the skin, with a soft, fluffy interior. Fries are something that can be variable and this place picked the right variation. - espresso martini: delicious. Not too sweet with a perfect balanced flavor profile. Needed just a slight adjustment: - Caesar salad: This was just slightly off. The dressing needed to have a bit more creaminess and a little more flavor. It also would have benefitted from more cheese and perhaps a bit of lemon. I only mention improvements because the entree salad was kind of expensive for what should be a pretty easy salad to make. - The NY strip: the mashed potatoes, broccolini and gravy that it came with were all delicious. Unfortunately the steak came about two degrees overcooked from what we ordered, which I read from other reviews might be a common result for their steak and salmon. The flavor was good though, so if you order rare or very rare, it might get you a medium rare and be great. Based on the reviews it sounds like there are some things they do really well, and from the things we had, I can imagine those things they do well are fantastic. It seems maybe the Spanish style is a better pick for their menu. So I'd just order what others have already said were done really well. read more

Looking for a place in Silverton to take my friends to eat for dinner and virtually every place we entered had a minimum 30 minute or longer wait. Since my friends were really hungry and didn't want to wait, I suggested Magnolia Grill even though I had not been to their new location after they moved from nearby Mt. Angel. We were seated immediately and after looking over the menu, decided on a couple of appetizers for dinner instead of individual meals. The crispy Brussels sprouts were amazingly tasty and although it was a couple hours past happy hour time, I had asked if we could still get the dirty fries and they happily accommodated us! They were so good! The portions were perfectly sized to fill us up and we went on our happy way, glad to have found a place to eat without a long wait and delighted to have found that Magnolia is as good in Silverton as it was in Mt. Went for the Thanksgiving dinner/buffet. We had "reservations" for 3. We got there and were directed upstairs where "Jeremiah will seat you." Stood there for 5 minutes at the top of the stairs waiting for Jeremiah. Finally sat down in the three chairs they had. 10 more minutes went by and still not seated. Whole place is basically empty. At least 4 groups that came in after us were immediately seated? Finally, I had to request to be seated. We sit down at a table set for 6 and we find out WE ARE EXPECTED TO SHARE A ROUND TABLE WITH STRANGERS (who also had reservations) and this was never stated in the original advertisements nor when reservations were made? While waiting for the buffet (which finally served 45 minutes later than our reservations), the strangers expected to sit with us were seated at our round table, sat for about 1 minute and apparently were as surprised as we were with the surprise seating arrangements/reservations and decided to promptly walk out of the establishment. So we had a huge table set for 6 to ourselves. No waiter ever said a word to us. We finally just got up and got our own food at the buffet. We sat there eating 20 minutes and no waiter even says "Hi!". I (again) had to get up, chase down a server, and request a waiter just to order drinks. Food was good but they kept running out of things then it was another 15 minute wait for them to get it out. Total lack of food management. In a restaurant that is successful, a person checks the buffet once in a while to see what is running out and then heats it so it is ready. An unsuccessful restaurant relies solely upon the CUSTOMER to inform the meat cutter (the only waitstaff in sight) that they are out of several items, who then takes 5 minutes just to find someone who can heat up food and another 15 minutes to get it served. Not once during the entire meal was there a voluntary interaction on the part of the waitstaff with us. Not once. We all ran out of water and drinks. We ended up just scavenging the waters left behind by the diners who walked out from our table. No one explained there were different deserts available downstairs than upstairs. We ended up sitting another 20 minutes waiting for the check. I (again) had to get up and chase someone down to get me a check. When she asked, I told the lady who took my card that it was pretty non-existent service, and she did comp my drinks. I also left no tip because not one single thing was done to earn it by any employed individual in the restaurant. As we are walking out a man sitting with a woman at a nearby table caught my attention (and obviously having overheard my telling the bill server about the non-existent service) said "You sure hit that on the head about the non-existent customer service here." I related to the bill server what he said on the way out and actually saw her get a waiter to go help a person for the only time in close to 1.5 hours at the place. If I wasn't a more forgiving individual, I would think the complete lack of interaction from any waitstaff was purposeful and possibly racially tinged because my wife is Asian and my son is half-Asian and I WAS in a private country club restaurant. But Nah.....that doesn't happen anymore .....right? read more

I last tried this restaurant many months ago and remember being underwhelmed. However tonight decided to give it another go. I was very pleasantly surprised. They have improved quite a bit! Ambience: I have always loved this location and its many previous iterations. The dining room with its abundant natural lighting, high ceilings, and large fireplace is so very special. Service: It was always good. Our server tonight was very nice and friendly. Food: this was where they fell short last time but this time was much better. I had the tri-tip and my wife had a salad. But we also had the appetizers cauliflower and the Brussels sprouts. These were all magnificent. For dessert we shared a cheesecake - it was decadent and a very good portion. Drinks: my wife got a mojito but remarked it was actually a little weak. She rarely drinks so it was surprising to hear. Prices: this is a $25-$35 entree place and I think appropriately priced. You're not going to get huge chain restaurant portions, but quality beats quantity here. Plus, we had plenty of leftovers to take home. Overall we enjoyed our dining experience this time around. We will add this to our list of places for a dinner date. read more

We had a small birthday outing to Magnolia Grill for dinner last night, and we quite enjoyed this cute little place. The service was friendly and inviting, and we were well taken care of. If I could give half star ratings, I would rate at 4.5 stars, as I feel it's just a tad under Silver Grille just down the highway (and that is a very high bar to be compared to). To start things off, our table of four shared the special appetizer, which was melted provolone, pesto, olive oil, and balsamic; served with toasted Parmesan cheese bread. It was so good. My wife and I shared the "Roots Salad" for the next course, which consisted of roasted root vegetables, like beets and sweet potatoes, served on spinach; with an accompaniment of toasted hazelnuts and goat cheese. It was a wonderful counterbalance of earthiness and richness, and they graciously split the full salad between two smaller dishes for us. For a main course, I went with the "Surf & Turf", which was a New York strip (cooked to a perfect medium rare), served with three large prawns. The chimichurri sauce that came with the entree paired nicely with the steak, and it added a nice kick to the dish. The potatoes and vegetables were obviously nice and fresh, and they were perfectly cooked. We finished the evening off with a chocolate mousse cake that was light, yet decadent, at the same time. It was delicious. I'm a big fan of supporting small, local, dining establishments; so we will definitely come back to Magnolia. Well done. read more

We just finished a hike at Silver Creek Falls park and were good and hungry . They did get us a table with no reservation but unfortunately it took one hour and ten minutes to get our food. My beer was tepid and I told the waitress and she said she would give me a colder glass, didn't help. Food was good , the smoked pork chop was good but somewhat overcooked. Wild rice was delicious. My wife loved the hamburger but I thought it was overpriced at $19. Also I ordered an Old fashioned and they put a maraschino cherry in it, really a classy looking bar but disappointed in the drink. Very nice atmosphere but service was slow and somewhat overpriced. read more
