Turn around time was on schedule and the prices were fair. Sometimes there is a cute curly haired brown dog with big floppy ears that barks whenever anyone enters to let the staff know a customer has walked in. Tony gave us lots of options when we asked about creating cushions for a new built-in windowseat, had us sit on different foam types and feel all the fabrics. When we asked about potential cost-savings, he let us know our best options but refused a few ideas because he knew they would compromise the quality. He even loaned us a set of fabric samples to take home for the weekend so we could see how the color would look in the specific space with the different light. He gave us a fair price and turned the cushions around in just a few weeks. One cushion was the wrong size, and when we called him, he quickly found the reason for the error on his side and fixed it within three days, knocking some of the final price off for the trouble and excess material. I went in to get two slanted pillows cut from foam for my bed. The foam company I used to purchase from went out of business. Tony told me he got the foam that I chose from canada. He knew I would be using it on the bed. I felt it was rather expensive but didn't have much choice. When it came in I came with my husband and he just dropped me off out front and some guy at the door told me to move the car it was in the way of other people getting in and he was rather rude. When I picked up the pillows Tony just said oh it's right there and then walked in the back and said nothing else. I got the foam pillows home and they wreaked like chemicals and there's no way these could be used for pillows on a bed. He knew that that's what I wanted these for and didn't tell me they would stink and would be unusable,they were most likely sprayed with flame retardant. Something is off about the owner. I had an odd and unfortunate experience with the him when I stopped in today to purchase hyper-vent for our boats mattresses. The owner was rude right off the bat. He attempted to belittle me on multiple occasions during our short interaction. I walked out of the store without purchasing the product as the guy was so rude I had to leave. I've been shopping around for sunbrella fabrics quoted at $27-$30 per yard. I asked why is price was $50 per yard. Tony responded, "thats not us" and hung up. I had a leak in my sunroof that I was originally told would cost $250 plus labor unless they had to fix more issues. 3 days after I brought my car in I hadn't heard anything from them, so I called and they told me it was the sunroof and seals on the back door that were leaking. They told me the car would be ready the next day. I didn't hear anything from them for two more days and when I went to pick up my car the bill was $1,400. They never asked my permission or quoted me on any of the additional repairs. I'm not even sure that my car is worth $1,400, so I most definitely would have thought twice about having it fixed. I was going to refrain from posting a negative review after we worked out a compromise on the bill, but when I went in to get my card refunded the guy working told me to pull my car around so he could "dump all of the water back in that they took out." I'm not quite sure what he gained from insulting me one last time, but that's not the way I would choose to be treated by anyone, let alone a business. read more

I went to Mac's a few years ago to have a seat reupholstered and my dash repainted. They did a great job, so I tried calling them this morning to make an appointment to have some other work done. I started to describe the issues with my interior (broken seat belt, loose console on the passenger door, and loose panel on the back door). He interrupted me a couple of times to say "just bring it by" and wouldn't tell me their availability or if he could even do the work. After I finally managed to tell him the three things I needed help with, he continued talking quickly and angrily, punctuated by the memorable statement: "I may need to take the door apart AND YOU WILL PAY ME FOR MY TIME!" I don't know why he felt the need to say that, as I would obviously pay for any services rendered. I just wanted to get an idea of how long I would need to be away from my job in order to get this work done. I told him he sounded stressed out and apologized for inconveniencing him with my business inquiry. He complained that he had a lot of customers today and said he wanted to call me back, although he doesn't have my name and number. Unfortunately, my positive experience from before isn't enough to make me want to contact this company and risk talking to this person again. read more

It's been several months since I had the driver's seat repaired on my 2003 4Runner. Very common issue where the door side of the driver's seat is collapsed and foam support badly broken down. Fabric was not torn. I recommend getting this sort of work done while the fabric is whole to save greater expense and reduce time for repair. The repair still looks and feels like new. Well I guess I had a slightly different experience here. Amazing if they are so bad they have managed to survive since 1948. But speculation aside... I bought a Chev Impala in Spokane (I live in Seattle) because finding one with anti-lock brakes and traction control for a good price was quite the challenge. I got a used Alamo rental car that was one year old and had 26K miles on it. I was a base model car but had the ABS and TC and was only $12K. So I transferred the alloy wheels and cargo net from my old Lumina, got a folding rear seat from a totaled Impala at the salvage yard, then went to Mac's to have a leather package added to the car. I went through a catalogue of many styles to pick from and picked out a set that was specifically for a Chev Impala. I was able to take a sample colors out to the car and see what would match the rest of the interior best. After the ordered leather arrived, Mac's finished the job within a few days and it looked fantastic. The leather was better than what the GM factory puts in Impalas. Mac's also took out the floor carpets to thoroughly clean them to remove the rental car smell and make them look new, which worked well. They could have just talked me into replacing the carpets, but said cleaning them cost less, so I didn't feel like they were trying to squeeze me for extra money at all. They even installed the folding rear seat with an arm rest in the car and got rid of the old fixed position one with no arm rest for me. So for another $1500 (in 2006) I ended up with a great looking car that cost a lot less than a new one with those options. Mac's did a really professional job. Now it is 2010 and I still have the car and the leather is still perfect and so are the carpets. I would go here again for any upholstery work without hesitation. read more

Mac's did the canvas work on my boat several years ago. They did an absolutely Outstanding job! I have referred them to many friends in my yacht club, and will continue to do so. Just recently I had a piece of stainless steel tubing/framing for my dinghy fall overboard. I stopped in to the canvas shop and Craig stopped what he was doing and took the time to cut a piece for me, (30") and bend it as well. When it came time to pay, he said there was "No Charge". I certainly was not expecting that! Craig is the best at what he does and I absolutely recommend them to anyone shopping for boat canvas!!! They are the best in town! read more

Warning: beware the mean old man who lurks in the parking lot... he's the landlord, not affiliated with Mac's. I had a couple of leather trim pieces installed by Steve in my VW Mark 5 Golf. I tried to install them my self, but I lost the wrestling match. Steve did a terrific installation, I am most pleased. Steve did a complete custom interior about 12 years ago in my S10 pick up truck. The materials, workmanship and style all have held up in this daily driver. Odered some seat covers for my truck and took forever to recieve them. They never called me once to pick them up! I had to call them and track them down. When I arrived to pick up the covers they were very disorganized. Couldn't even find my order. Very unprofessional, and kinda rude. After leaving I get a call later that they had gave me the wrong seat covers! To think that day if I would have had time I was going to get them put on. I would be even more mad if I had wasted time and money to try and put them on and not fit! What an inconvenience that would have been. When we met up the next day to exchange the seat covers I asked if because they messed up could they discount putting the covers on. Didn't even apologize for the mistake.Guy brushed me off and a total jerk. I will never come back here again! read more

Had Mac's fixed most of the seat in my vintage car and the results were outstanding ! They took a pig's ear and made the silk purse out of it! Only gripe is that it cost more than expected , but that was due to the extra work required to get it right , since the seat was falling apart. They are artisans. read more

I cannot give a review on the service they provided because I chose not to go with them based on their ridiculous prices and extremely rude costumer service. They quoted me $100 an hour just for my car leak diagnosis and told me it could take up to 3 hours just to find the leak in my car and after that they could give me a price quote. They gave me a completely different price quote on the phone. Once I told them I may have to shop around just to see if I could get something a little more in my budget he put the keys in my hand and walked back inside the building without another word. I really could not believe how poor the costumer service is, I was completely polite to them. The office is extremely messy! They seem very annoyed if you have any questions and they speak down to you (not someone I'm willing to pay over $500) I was going to pay, but based on their rude attitude they will definitely not be receiving my services or I would not refer them to anyone with the same issues. I also had to wait a month just to get an appointment, they seem to be falling behind. What a waste of time, I'm now searching for a different company ( which are many) With such a frustrating situation of having a car leak you don't need the added stress of rude people. AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL experience. Went there to have my boat top and clear vinyl sides repaired and top zipper replaced. Tony inspected my top said it might last me for a few more years, found one hole to patch and we came up with a lovely way to repair it where it would not be noticeable. I thought that the quote was steep ($950), but figured he knew what he was talking about. When I came to pick the boat up, he told me that the top was a bit brittle, but should last me a few more years, especially if I condition it with the $17 of stuff he sold me. When I saw the boat, the clear sides were good, but the top was all cracked (think of a starry night!) and had three pimply looking patches on it. Don't go to Mac's -- go ANYWHERE else!! read more

My bad kitty decided to urinate on one of the couch cushions on my Queen Anne couch. Needless to say, it was ruined. I went to a few upholstery shops to get an estimate and they were all in the $225-$275 range. I checked in with Macs and Michelle quoted me around $130. They had a deal! I took the good cushion in and my cushion covers. They did a fantastic job of matching the cushions in depth firmness and fit in the covers and with taxes, it was almost 1/2 of other quotes I received. A couple years ago I went to Mac's to have my car seats fixed. The work was defective. The stitching on the car seat acted as perforations. Said another way, rather than sewing which would strengthen I was given perforations that within a month had just torn through right in the middle of the drivers seat. I covered it with duct tape and moved on, until recently when the tape starting coming up, I thought I'd try to glue some vinyl or something because the perforations kept opening up until the whole middle of the seat was open to foam, right were the stitch used to be. Then I thought this is BS, this seat was never correctly sewn ! It is so obvious it is defective, a big opening right wear he sewed. The sewing ruined the seat, too thin material or too strong a stitch, or both. So I went back to Mac, I had a simple request, glue some scrap vinyl on the seat. Simple to make me happy, cost him nothing. Instead I got an indignant, angry man that told me it was normal wear and tear and he was not responsible whatsoever ! He was rude and he was happy to be rude, he had a sparkle in his eye, telling me it was my fault, it excited him to degrade me, he told me how he did not need my business (I'd already given it to him) and the corker, what inspired me to write this, as I was leaving dejected and confused by his behavior, he told me to "Never come back" well of course I won't be going back to Mac's and I hope you won't either. read more

I was skeptical that anyone would be able to repair my rare red leather Chinese ottoman as it had pretty special stitching on the side that had split, but when I picked it up, I really had to look to see which side they had repaired! I was surprised that they were able to match it so well. Friendly staff, great work and very affordable! We first used Macs in 2003 for a large mid-century couch, and again this month to recover 2 mid-century chairs and repair webbing for a MCM love seat. If you are looking for a place to have mid-century modern furniture upholstered this is the place. They have an incredible amount of fabrics to choose from, and many that fit the 1950s era. Upholstery is not cheap - but their attention to detail is hard to find, and well worth the price. They take great pride in their work and it shows. I took my grandmother's mid-century chair to have the cushions and upholstery replaced. The upholstery work was good but when they reinstalled the swivel base they ignored returning it to the way it was. They reversed the base and then added plywood blocks to make up for the height difference. They also used some longer screws that went through the exterior of the wood. The reversed base resulted in the frame braking when I sat on it. When I sent an email with photos of the damage I was told to bring it back in a month or so (after the holidays) and they will see if they can fix it. Awesome experience at Mac's! A gallon of milk spilled in my Jeep Liberty. After trying to clean myself and a enzyme treatment at a local detailer, the smell in my jeep a week later was unbearable! I was referred to Mac's to have my carpet removed, washed and the foam padding replaced. I spoke to Steve, who was super friendly and explained the process and had confidence they could solve the problem. My car just had a milestone birthday. It can now buy its own beer! In honor of that, I had some interior work done by Mac's in Ballard. The price was reasonable, the materials are high quality, and it looks great! Tony worked with me as if I were having a major renovation, taking the time to help me pick out the right color, coordinating with my schedule, and overall having remarkable patience (in retrospect, I maybe obsess a bit much over the details). He took the time to give me good advice on how to care for the leather seats so I can make them last longer. When it comes time to do a bigger project, I won't even need to shop around. I wanted to change the fabric of 2 cushions of a chair. The foam was new. The estimate was quite expensive - over $530 including $120 for the fabric. But the final invoice was higher again as they forgot to say that shipping cost for the fabric were not included - $40! They did not respect the schedule. Then they did not respect the technical specifications and it took 1 more week to redo the job. First time and last time. Mac's Upholstery is not reliable and quite expensive! read more

Had headliner done here mid 2014. Guy treated me like he could care less if he did the job or not. Price was higher than quoted. Upon install ended up cracking the damn thing in 2 places. Job turned out lumpy in areas but now that everything is back installed not going to bother with it but would not recommend them to anyone I know. read more

The company had an ad for a trailer that we wanted to purchase. It's a little hard to find, so after OnStar sending us to the wrong place twice we called. It seemed as though the person who answered the phone didn't know where they were located either, but he was trying to help us until Tony got on the phone and told us to just find it because his $30.00 employee wasn't going to waste anymore time giving directions. The trailer was over $500 and he couldn't be bothered helping someone find his shop because it might cost him $10.00 of his employee's time. Had a new top put on my Mustang. The price was a bit high but still kind of fair. All was good until it rained. Lake Ford in the back. Took it back, tightened/stretched top, again all seemed good until it rained. The Mustang is now probably a Rustang (sold it soon after). My next convertible top job went to Durham, which was a great experience and quality job. Stay away from Mac's, the boss is a ferret and just wants your money. read more
