Every time I shop in this store, I wonder why I even bother. First of all, the store is crammed with merchandise, much of it cheap and disposable-looking. Most of the women's clothes are loud and synthetic, it's difficult to find shoes and handbags that are actually made of leather, and there aren't many higher-end brands. The jewelry is mostly costume-y crap that looks like it will fall apart after you wear it once. The state of the physical store is atrocious, too. I was just in the dressing room tonight and the floor looked as if it hadn't been vacuumed in a month. The walls were scuffed and the hardware on the doors looked about ready to fall off. The last few times I've been in the store, there are a couple of staff who look like they're working hard, while the majority of people are standing around talking and not even asking you if you need help. And if you're petite, forget the Providence location. The miniscule selection is full of dowdy designs, with a paltry selection of sizes. You're better of going to the Warwick Mall or the West Farms Mall in Connecticut (worth the trip and the Connecticut sales tax, trust me). Overall, I would say the Providence store is a microcosm of the fall in quality of the Macy's chain. Its marketing is so out of touch with what is actually happening in the stores. While at Providence Place, I'd rather spend my time shopping at Banana Republic, Gap, Black House White Market, and Ann Taylor for my work/casual wardrobe. read more

Well, I guess it's perfect for what it's meant to be. Every now and then I inexplainable find myself at this mall and in Macy's. I agree with a lot of the other reviewers comments on how the store seems crowded and packed with merchandise but, oddly, seems to have nothing of value. I consistently bump from rack to rack, department to department like a pinball thinking, "Junk. Junk. Damaged. Who fits into a 3 XXL? Junk. Junk." I walk out so confused until I start taking notice of the demographics in the Mall and Providence. This place is probably perfectly targeted to the demographic and it would not surprise me if this was a high volume store. Nothing wrong with that. I've got NYC and Boston. read more

I wouldn't normally review a store like Macy's because we all know what department stores are like. This is really a review for one of their employees in menswear, Paul. This guy is crushing it. I went to the mall to get an outfit for my wedding and was definitely not expecting to put it together at a Macy's, but he was all over it. He has a consummate sense of style that you would only expect from an expensive boutique store, and was immediately able to pull together a very classy look for me, despite the fact that I am a relatively schlubby dude. This guy is awesome. He saved me a day of scavenging through various stores and was fantastic at picking up what a person is looking for. I can't praise him enough. read more

I give Macy's 9 months before they file chapter 11. This location is a DUMP! The store appears to be very understaffed, the sales people that I dealt with seem stressed out and unhappy. Every time I go there the store looks like it was looted. The clothes are all over the floor, nothing is tagged correctly, the displays are falling apart, the fitting rooms look like something out of a crime show, and the overall appearance is just disgusting. It is crystal clear that no one cares about the store. I'd be embarrassed to work for Macy's, and I won't be shopping there ever again. read more

I hate writing reviews, but I had such an horrible experience and I thought I should just say, Horrible Experience. There was a defect on a Michael Kors bag that I purchased and they refused to do anything about it. I had proof that I bought it and the original price tag was on it and everything. What kind of company carries thousands of items and won't do anything about it? That's all I could say. If you plan on buying any brand name items, go to the actual store. First off, I never do this, but this was an awesome experience in customer service. Little back story, plane got canceled on the way in, then luggage was lost. My wife had a conference at the convention center, and we arrived literally 25 minutes before it began and we are wearing shorts and t-shirts for this very important event. I run... RUN... to Macy's and saw 3 gentlemen standing there talking i said do you fellas work here they said yup and you look like you need help. No kidding in 15 minutes I had a full suit, shoes, socks, a belt, a shirt, and underwear. They brought me 7 different womens suits in her size(she had to stay at the convention center for a walkthrough) I picked one out. They checked me out and I made it with 5 minutes to spare. If it wasn't for the incredible service at Macy's we would have looked like baffoons at the conference(which was for the military on a national level). read more

Ordered item online and quickly decided to return for poor quality. I was told my order (2 bedspreads) could not be returned at store so I paid to mail to Macy's Return Dept. It has now been over a month and I have still not rec'd my credit! Thankfully, I have proof of delivery but I am having to dispute through my credit card company because of Macy's incompetent refund dept. I will never buy again from Macy's, either in-store or online! BEWARE! Customer service is worthless - lip service only with no one stepping to the plate to straighten out lack of refund issue. read more

I am a born and raised Rhode Islander who now lives in New Hampshire. Despite the sales tax, I often find myself shopping at the Macy's at Providence Place when I return to visit friends/family. Back in high school, the Providence Place Mall was THE place to hang out. Now, it's just large, loud, and unkempt. The Macy's is now exception. I recently found myself shopping there for a new suit, taking advantage of another incredible sale (Macy's sales are unquestionably excellent..that much is true). While the staff was helpful, there was only one employee in the entire department. Not being a stranger to retail work I am fully aware that Macy's needs to curb their expenses and hiring less people is the easiest way to do that. The trick is to staff your busiest hours the heaviest. Clearly they choose not to do that at this particular location. If this was not bad enough, the condition of the store is questionable at best. At worst, it's just atrocious. The men's suit section was ok enough. But most everything there is on racks and nobody's going to through a full suit on the floor. Stepping away from that department, however, and into the shirt and tie section was another story altogether. Ties strewn about across the tables and on the floor. Shirts lumped on top of each other, not folded, and not organized according to size making it impossible to find my size in what essentially looked like a pile of shirts. The whole thing looked like the aftermath of Black Friday opening. I get it. Weekends are busy days. But a good retail establishment will be able to balance the volume and the busy work to make customers want to keep coming back. There needs to be more urgency in my opinion and that falls on management. For the record, the women's department was a mess as well. read more

I just had one of the best customer experiences of my life ,,,,, a month ago I bought a pair of slacks at the Macy's in Waterford since I've worn the same size pants forever I didn't try them on .... Well imagine my surprise when I went to wear them and they were almost two sizes too big ,,,,, fully realizing they were mismarked I took them to a seamstress to have them taken in she recommended against it since they were so big ,,, since I no longer had my receipt or tags I figured I was SOL !!!!! Not so I tossed them in the back seat of my car and figured they go in a goodwill box that was until I visited Macy's providence place and a particular salesman Joe in men's suits , he was accommodating to a fault , so much so after he returned the slacks I felt compelled to buy a few more pairs !!!! These I tried on !!!! For an excellent buying/ shopping experience I would track down Joe !!!! Highly recommended I'll be back read more
