Shopping the second day of their VIP sale for a fragrance for my husband..I fell for their "free gift with purchase" scam... and of course after my $140 dollar purchase of course they didn't have the "free gift".. I was informed that they are never supplied with the "GWP" products at the Saugus location by the fragrance counter associates. Never wasting my time or money at Macy's again. MACYS/JORDAN MARSH was once the Cadillac of retail in New England. However, this onetime retail ICON is nothing but a shell of itself. I've been in the Saugus store a few times this past year and it would have been more in-store shopping except that for the past couple of years every time I go there it looks like the clothing areas got hit by tornadoes! Everything is messy and in piles all over the place; apparently no associates care to take the time and the pride to make the store look good! It was once a great store!! I saw another review here by someone that says it is not easy to work there. Apparently she hasn't been in the Saugus store. No cashiers could be found except for a counter where 3 of them were. We waited in line 20-30 minutes and when one of the cashiers became available we walked up to her station. She simply walked away, no explanation, nothing. She could have at least said I'm sorry but my shift is complete or I'm going on my break, the next available associate will take you, etc. You get the idea. She literally simply walked away and said nothing. I also had an issue online with the chat feature they have. I do understand they are probably busy at this time of year so I expect to wait a bit. I explained how the snap on my jacket let go (top part) because it stayed with the bottom upon unsnapping it. The first person I had said no problem and proceeded to ask if I wanted a replacement or a refund. I said replacement (thinking I just had a bad snap on the side pocket). I should explain that it also left a hole where the snap was. I've worn that jacket maybe 10 times. No problem, thought I was all set and she told me I didn't have to return the bad jacket and that the replacement was on the way. This is what Macy's should be. She was great except she sent to my email a refund request (honest error). I went back to the chat and spoke to another agent and he assured me the replacement was coming and to "trust them"; it's coming he said. OK, I said thank you and ended the chat. The next day I get an email that the situation was reversed, I would not be getting a refund or replacement. I was not rude at all (why would I be?) so didn't understand. Back to the chat. Chatted with another associate who was rude and a little abrupt; I asked to speak to her supervisor who was just as abrupt. Long story short, I'm stuck with an inferior product, something that should not have happened with a "close to new" jacket. Was I aggravated on this as I spent so much time trying to straighten it out. Long story short, if you do shop at Macy's, stay away from the Saugus store and don't expect them to back up their products if something goes wrong with it. I won't go back to Saugus myself, and if I do shop at a Macy's it will be further away from me, probably Burlington or Peabody (Danvers?). Much neater stores, helpful associates, etc. Sad because the Saugus store used to be really nice. Whoever the main manager is there deserves to be let go for letting the store stay in such bad shape. Also, be careful when you buy a product. If something is truly not the fault of the consumer and something is wrong with it, at least in my case they would NOT BACK UP THE PRODUCT. This is a much-needed update to my previous Macy's review of five years ago. It's now the end of November 2019 and this Macy's is as horrible as ever, only now it's even worse. The place is a mess from top to bottom. You have to wade through mounds of clothing on the floor and on top of racks and tables. The Levis section was an absolute eyesore of clothing thrown everywhere. This is completely unacceptable. No wonder everyone shops online today. Slow service. I waited 10 minutes for the cashier to check out one woman. Then another associate came to ring people up. She was very rude. I've never been spoken to the way this woman spoke to me (she was not pleasant or kind). She also was slow. I just got home and noticed my shirt has the security link on it so now I have to drive back for the store to remove it. Avoid this location, if you can. read more

I just left this store. There were stacks of the exact same pants on three tables, all of which were clearly labeled as being on sale for 19.99. We are not talking one or two pairs of pants accidentally placed on the wrong table here. We are talked maybe 30 such pairs. Anyway, I get to the register and am told the are over $65. I point out that the signs blatantly say 19.99 and the cashier gets arrogant and tries to argue that I was talking about one pair of pants places somewhere wrong. I take him for a walk and show him exactly how the display is set up. He makes no eye contact with me and does not acknowledge what is sitting right on the table. This was no accident. The sign was clearly for the pants being displayed. This store deliberately provides the wrong price and smacks you with a price over three times as high when you reach the register. How many people have they ripped off with this con job of a set up? I'm sure the answer is many. Stay away from this establishment if you expect honesty from retailers. read more

The salesperson had an attitude and tried to refuse the return. I marched upstairs and got the manager who took care of it. Absolutely unacceptable. I placed an online order for a jacket. Went to pick up and was told it would be 2-3 weeks even though I was told it was in stock. I asked about canceling and they said I had to wait and not pick it up and it would automatically refund me. I walked upstairs and found the jacket I had ordered. I went back and asked the associate if she could use it for the order I placed and she said no. I would have to buy it again and wait for the refund. The place is absolute dump, I'm shocked that corporate Macys hasn't stepped in. It may be petty over a coat but it's the point of having to buy again when I already had an order pending. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS STORE. This location is big and convenient, which is so unfortunate. It takes you about 30 minutes to find a register that actually has someone working at it, and then once you do, you wish you hadn't.... every employee I have encountered on the bottom floor (women's sections) are completely rude and act like you are bothering them when you ask for help. The managers aren't any better and I have personally had them insinuate that I was lying on two occasions. I have seen this happen to others as well. It's not only unpleasant, but I can't imagine that it's good for business either... The top floor employees are actually really nice, and I have NO idea how that happened. Working at Macy's is not easy. Minimum wage, one day coupons that seem to only work on cheap clearance items & the fitting rooms...oh dear those fitting rooms. I was a manager here (Burlington & Belmont- RIP because Belmont just closed down), and my my my, it wasn't easy or fun. I applaud the associates here because everyone is very friendly. I know they'd rather be with their loved ones on a lovely weekend, but they're stuck here- mainly because we all need money to survive. The selection of merchandise seems ok. I work at the Macy's in Peabody and I always hear customers telling me how much nicer the one in peabody is, but I wanted to see for myself before judging. I must agree with them. The bedding department was a disaster, and whoever the merchandising manager is needs to rethink their floor plan. Very impractical! Also, when wanting to purchase a pillow sham I couldn't find a single associate to check me out, when I finally found one, she claimed she was "with a customer", which is fine, but the way she said it made me feel like I wasn't important. If I could give out zero stars I would. This place has the slowest and coldest cashiers you'll meet. I had to wait 20 minutes for one cashier to check out it this other families stuff, I was fine with it at first since some of the dresses had no price tag so she had to type in their number or whatever it is. Until, someone else pulled her aside and I didn't see her for a couple minutes so I got pissed off and looked for another cash register. One girl told me the jewelry place would pull me up so I can just pay and leave, they didn't. I go to the Macy's backstage since it's an entire section to itself and there's no way there wouldn't be any workers? But there wasn't. I go to another cash register and it wasn't open. Finally I find one open with a whole line but ONE person working it until someone who didn't even work there had to help. I don't even blame the workers I blame whoever hire's them, they need to do better. Perfume section and the jewelry section was the only place filled with cashiers and people to help, not even the makeup section. I was lucky to even catch up to someone to open the dressing room for me. It's not even like a smaller lesser known place or else I wouldn't even be mad since Covid and I know it got hard. But, it's MACY'S one the world's largest fashion goods retailer who can afford more damn workers to help the ones now. I've never had such a bad experience at a Macy's usually all the workers are super sweet and fast. One of my favorite stores to shop at. Half of my clothes have been bought at this store. The clothes American Rag make some great plaid shirts and pants. I probably own every color of plaid they have ever made. Macy's end of the season sales are great too. Recently I got about 5 pairs of shorts for 75% off. I won't be able to wear them to next year, but now I got plenty of stuff to wear, when the warm weather rolls around again. read more

Went there today with my wife as she shopped around in the woman's section (next to the sports clothing section). We waited to pay for 10 minutes as an older lady with glasses who worked there passed us 3 times and looked at us each time. Finally she came over and said "someone else is supposed to be here to cover for me" like it was my problem. Instead of helping us, she sat on the phone calling people to come cover her for 5 minutes. I asked her if she was able to work a register and she told us how she was mad because she was supposed to leave 20 minutes ago, and hitting her hand on the counter. After she gave my wife her receipt, my wife thanked her, as she ignored my wife and stormed off. The shoe department sales people didn't give any attention when I was looking for the right boots for me. The sales rep limited herself to bring only one boot of the two I asked trying to save time it seems like she was lazy to go in the back get the two models and she never suggested any other model after the one I tried didn't fit. As I was walking out I saw another boots I liked and turned to the register to ask for another pair but the employees were chatting in a circle and no one acknowledged me so I left. Items were relatively well organized and things were neat (ie. no items on the floor). We spent quite some time here and brought some clothes that were on sale. The worst Macy's I have ever been to with the worst customer service. Every I come to buy something or do a return I have to wait forever at the register, because the cashier is literally barely moving. Most of the register don't even have cashier's to begin with. If you try to hint that they need to hurry up, they won't apologize and try to be quicker, they will roll their eyes and keep doing their thing. Not to mention that the selection here is very poor. Almost no good brands for young people. No Rachel Roy, no BCBGeneration, no Sanctuary, no French Connection. Very little selection from Guess and even smaller for Denim & Supply. Macys will try to push that useless warranty on you knowing that this insurance company does everything possible not to honor the warranty terms. I usually shop macys when Im looking to buy a designer bag or shoes or when I need to pop into mac. Today I went to mac counter for foundation and brought up a perfume that could not be rung up with my mac purchase. The mac employee was kind enough to offer to find somewhere for me to buy my perfume. The first woman said she couldn't do it and I was to wait in a line to pay for my item. I would not mind waiting if I wasn't also being ignored for ten minutes. I left without purchasing the perfume and will get it at ulta. If you do not have enough staff or registers for your guests to check out your letting money walk out the door! Side note I bought coach boots at this location and had to return them twice due to both pairs of boots being torn on back seems. If you haven't worked in retail you will not understand how a store works. Complaining about bags is just trivial bs. They are the same bags sent from a warehouse to all stores. As for messes, they are created by customers. Customers who don't care. You don't walk into a friends house and make a mess. Just think of going to a store as being a guest in someone's house and treat it with respect. if you pick something up put it back down on the shelf or rack you found it. As for finding someone to help you, the schedule is handled by a computer. If someone calls out and management can't find anyone to fill in they need to shuffle people. If you are ignorant enough to come in 10 min before closing or right when a sore opens it is your problem. Staffing is staggered by when the majority of people shop. Also workers need to do other things than stand behind a register and wait for you. They need to help people find things and straighten up messes made and put things away. Also don't be so rude to be on your phone when you need something or someone's help. It's rude enough your on the phone in the store in the first place. Also take your sunglasses off its polite to look people in the eyes when talking. If you are nice to the help they will be nice back. We don't need your attitude when you try to return something without proof of purchase. read more

This past Saturday I was in the cosmetics dept @ Macy's and had to as THREE ppl for help @ the Tarte Cosmetics counter . I was directed to a women who was sitting down laughing and chatting with another employee, I asked for help with an eyeliner and her response was a sigh with an eye roll as she walked over to the counter with me. She picked up a product and said "this is all we carry for eyeliner"...I corrected her because she was WRONG and showed her the the liner I was interested in, her response " ya ya I know nothing and I'm on my lunch break and your bother me", as she walked away. I asked her name and laughed and walked OUT of the department. If you don't like your job find a new one but more importantly, if you don't KNOW your job find another one because clearly I had to correct you on your product knowledge and your response was LESS than professional. Macy's has great items. My favorites are Michael Kors, coach, men's clothing and fragrances. I have to say I was very satisfied with the customer service I received for last minute shopping. I had a funeral to attend and was trying to find a decent black outfit that was reasonable in price and look. One of the employees was extremely helpful. He spend over an hour helping me, he got me different sizes and took his time to help me find something to wear. He found me an entire outfit for $65 and on top of that he gave me an additional 10% off. I was shocked and very appreciated as a customer. I was a victim of fraud with my Macy's credit card. A charge of 35.00,made in London, was put on the account .I contacted Macy's about it , I filled out all the necessary paperwork, they refuse to remove the charge from my account. The charge is now up to 107.00. It has been impossible to speak to a customer service rep, hold time is ridiculous, reps are rude, and they hang up on me. Moved here from NH, Recently shopped for new bedding. Just wanted to say i couldnt be happier with my experience. A woman named Joyce Sullo took unbelievable care of me. She is well educated and experienced on what she is selling, not to mention patient. She went out of her way to get me what i wanted, and then some. She talked me into a few extra things that ive always wanted but didnt think were in my budget. They were and were on sale which i wouldnt have bothered to even check out. I love my new bedding and love coming home after a long day of hard work, and climb into my luxurious bedding. If your looking for a new look in your bedroom, i would highly suggest asking for Joyce.
