Food for a like home. Service is great. Very busy night when we arrived. Only had to wait about 5 minutes. Served within 10 minutes of seating. Food is like mom's. Oh I ate too much but it was sooo goood.

What a wonderful hidden gem. We were on our way from Kure Beach to Greenville. After we left Wilmington there was not a lot of restaurants near by. We walked in around 7 pm on Saturday night the restaurant was spotless, everything was clean from the condiments to the women's bathroom. My husband got the Captain's Platter, it had flounder, oysters, scallops, shrimp, crab cake and two sides. I got two seafood grilled shrimp and scallops with two sides. The seafood was fresh and seasoned just right. The oysters were nice and lumpy. The service could not be better. If you want a soda be prepared to get a can. Don't leave without getting a slice of cake. 16 layers of cake was delicious. We will definitely be back.

Their famous Lemon Blueberry Pie. Available only for a listed time, late May to Mid-August.

This is a great local restaurant. My wife always gets the fried oyster and scallop dinner. I like to try some of everything. This last visit I had the BBQ Pork Ribs with turnip greens and coleslaw. Everything was very good and we finished with a piece of their Blueberry Lemon Pie.

Upon my first visit to Rose Hill, I was happily surprised by this local establishment. You can travel far a wide over the South and hardly come across a restaurant like this with such a long standing tradition of serving hearty meals to hungry locals in a nondescript spot. Entering the restaurant feels like a combination of a diner and home at the same time. To the right is a hallway that looks strait out of a colonial home. A wood floor stretches down the narrow room, capped by a fireplace with a quaint selection of antiques and pictures. There are multiple rooms beyond this entryway that you can rent out for family and community events. On the walls you will see the history of the restaurant and photos of Ruth Buckner making her locally renown lemon blueberry pie. TIP: Try to get there during blueberry harvest, as this pie is only available seasonally. Once seated, we were handed one page menus with a brief history of the RHR on the back. The prices are very reasonable, most selections are under $10, so I splurged and ordered a fried chicken sandwich, which came out hot with lettuce and tomato, a barbecue sandwich (chopped pork), with a side of collard greens. The chicken sandwich was crispy and tender, the bbq sandwich was what you'd expect from a solid Southern styled eatery - moist and perfect for their house brand tomato based sauce. If you like collard greens, I'd recommend getting a side of them with your meal as they literally seemed to melt in my mouth. They had a light tinge of vinegar, but predominately tasted great with hints of butter and salt. Our waitress was busy and hardworking taking care of several tables during an active lunch hour. Overall, if you are looking for a quick bite, while traveling in or nearby Rose Hill, I'd definitely recommend this for people looking for old school southern grub. Enjoy!

Swiss chicken is always good to see on their list of special's for the day

It's just that kind of place that brings me so much comfort. This restaurant is reliable, unfussy, and really good at what it does. As is the case throughout the South, the fresh brewed iced tea is one of the highlights. One sip and it immediately tastes like home. My favorite thing on the menu has always been and will always be the Brunswick stew. It's absolute comfort food that's warm, hearty, and nostalgic in a way that hits every time. It's an Eastern North Carolina tradition, and Smithfield BBQ is one of the best in the business. As for other regional specialities, the hushpuppies deserve their own shoutout too. The slightly sweet cornbread batter is perfectly fried every time, which makes these little carb morsels crunchy on the outside yet soft and fluffy on the inside. I've been eating them dipped in ketchup since I was a kid and I'm not about to stop now. Quit quietly judging me, LOL! The bbq sandwiches are messy and not designed to be easy to eat on the go, but the bbq plates are the best deal. I love getting the pulled pork plate with potato salad (the best). Since I'm Eastern N.C. born and raised, I basically was born with a taste for classic vinegar bbq sauce. Smithfield's is terrific, and I love drowning my pork in that tangy goodness. Every bite seriously brings me back to lazy summer Sundays hanging out with my best friend in my Grandmama's grassy backyard. You can't put a price on those culinary memories.   Service is fast, takeout is easy, the dining room's small but cozy, and there's even a drive-through for when you're in a hurry. Smithfield BBQ is not trying to be trendy or fancy, nor have they ever been. It's just a place that serves really solid Eastern North Carolina BBQ done right. For me, Smithfield's isn't just a restaurant, it's a family tradition.

My aunt and cousin joined in on the fun, and it was my cousin's first time as well. Some in our party got the meatloaf, and exclaimed over how delicious it was. I got the parm chicken with rice, which was a little dried out and disappointing. Enter Yoder's cabbage and Dutch potato sides to save the day! Both were absolutely delicious! The cabbage was perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. I was delighted to find they were spicy, with visible red pepper flakes. The Dutch potatoes were creamy and cheesy...a new fave! The roll with the cinnamon butter was a treat indeed. And the tea? We like ours half & half...delivered in big cups with extra ice just the way we like it! I also got an English Toffee Latte to go...and it did not disappoint. Neither did the waitstaff, who were friendly, engaging and ensured our food was delivered with a smile. We left with slices of chocolate, coconut cream, and pecan caramel pie, a loaf of sourdough, and a mocha brownie treat for later. Ohhhh, and a ginormous cinnamon roll, cause why not?! The interior of Yoder's restaurant is a rustic place with a lovely shop to wander through while you wait to be seated. They have a lovely bird in the store that will sing you a song and tell you what the cat and the rooster say. So charming! All in all, I've been hearing about Yoder's for years and years...and it did not disappoint! Can't wait for a return visit!

After arriving a few minutes early we were told it would be "a bit" before they could seat us. "A bit" turned out to be more than an hour and even then they sat us at multiple tables throughout the restaurant. After being seated, we were promptly ignored. Fifteen more minutes went by before our sullen, unpleasant server took our drink orders and eventually our breakfast orders. She was not only extremely slow and inattentive, but blatantly disrespectful to one member of our party by rolling her eyes and making gestures when she thought we couldn't see her. Once our order was placed, we waited then waited more. We had decided to leave if our food had not arrived by 12pm and go to Bojangles in Vanceboro, but at 11:50, over three hours after arriving, our food finally showed up. My omelet was enormous and overflowing with ground sausage. It was OK, but would have been better with less sausage. My shredded hash browns were cold. The biscuit that accompanied the omelet was cold and hard. My dining companion liked her french toast, but noted her eggs, though properly prepared over medium, were cold. Same goes for her home fries. However, the buttery syrup, served with her french toast, was served warm and was absolutely amazing. Wow! It made my biscuit edible and was the best part of our meals. The restaurant is attached to a hardware store in a rural part of Craven County. It definitely has a country vibe and was spotless. Incredibly slow and disrespectful service combined with OK-at-best food make it difficult to recommend Voder's Dutch Pantry in any capacity to anyone.

Twelve 33 Distiller is a gem, a delight, a treat and worth visiting. My wife and I did the VIP…read moretour and it was amazing - very well led by SAM who spoke well on how they make their spirits as he showed us around, helping us pick spirits for our sampling and leading us through the equipment then to the "secret" Speakeasy. We loved our time at Twelve 33, enjoying our visit with SAM and KEVIN, the food, the spirits and the general feeling of joy persistent throughout the facility. Highly recommend you work in time to visit! TOUR $29 per person gets you a very personalized tour with an employee - in our case, that employee was SAM TICE who we learned is the Assistant Distiller and Operations Manager so he definitely knows his stuff! On the tour, you start by picking your spirits that will be on your tasting flight. Yeah, it seems weird to pick them up front but then while you're on the tour in the back, their staff is pouring all your spirits so they are ready for you when you're done - very efficient! And don't worry, your guide will assist you in selecting spirits and there's a very descriptive menu to help you out as well. SPIRITS The spirits I tried were excellent and my wife enjoyed hers as well, starting with their Intemperance Vodka that both of us got and fell in love with. And that's saying something! We are both Belvedere fans as our number one vodka of choice, and it's a Rye vodka so normally we're not in on the corn/wheat types but this vodka was smooth, delightful and fun enough that we purchased 2 bottles on our way out. Beyond that, our tastes went different directions as I loaded up on whiskeys and my wife went the tequila and cream liquor route. My favorite was the Triple Oaked whisky which I also procured a bottle of as we exited SPEAKEASY Such a fun surprise - at the end of the tour, you open their speakeasy by uttering the password, and step back into time with early 1900's decor and music, plus your tasting flight waiting with water and pretzels for you to enjoy. They give you time to taste and also select a cocktail (included in the tour) from their menu which they bring to you to imbibe in this fun room! FOOD We only tried one item from their Small Bites menu - a flatbread - but it was awesome. Very interesting flatbread as it was smaller than I think we expected but the ingredients were perfectly balanced and appropriately sized - we had the BBQ Chicken pizza with BBQ sauce, roasted chicken, purple onion and 3 cheese blend. It was cute and the perfect amount of food for a snack before we moved on to dinner closer to our hotel. STAFF Besides SAM who gave us the tour, we met KEVIN OSBORN, the founder/owner/head distiller who swung by to say hello and chat for a moment. He was very nice and it was great of him to drop by. We had servers and other staff that were equally friendly and welcoming - a warm, enthusiastic group of people that all seem to truly love working at Twelve 33 Distillery, and it made our visit even better

Our experience was very disappointing from start to finish…read more When we arrived, there were only three occupied tables, so the restaurant wasn't busy. Despite that, it took over 20 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. Once our drinks finally arrived, the waitress accidentally tipped a glass of ice water from her tray, spilling it all over the floor and down my leg. The salad bar was also disappointing. The lettuce was brown and sitting in excess water, with pieces floating in it. Many of the bar items were empty, leaving mostly juices available. For our meals, several issues continued. Another couple in our party ordered ribeyes, and they were extremely thin--more like sandwich steaks than ribeyes. One of the sweet potatoes tasted sour, and the mac and cheese for their young son took a very long time to come out. My husband ordered a hamburger cooked medium well, but it arrived very overcooked and dark. His serving of fries was noticeably smaller than another guest's side order of fries, and nearly half of his plate was empty. The biggest issue was my meal. Everyone else at the table was halfway finished eating before my food arrived. I ordered the marinated chicken with a loaded baked potato. The chicken was raw and bloody inside, so I sent it back. The waitress offered to bring my baked potato while the chicken was being remade. When I cut into the potato, one entire end was black and rotten. At that point, I showed it to the waitress, canceled my meal, and simply requested a side of fries instead. While we were there, another family was also having multiple issues. Their card had apparently been run incorrectly, requiring refunds and additional charges, and they were still waiting on food they had asked to have boxed to go. The woman eventually became so frustrated that she opened the kitchen door and told the staff she had been there for three hours and just wanted everything corrected so they could leave. I understand that every restaurant can have an off day... However, the number of service, food quality, and kitchen issues we witnessed--not only with our table but with others as well--made this one of the worst dining experiences we've had. I hope management addresses these problems because there is a lot of room for improvement.

The food was good. The salad bar was complete, well maintained, and attractive. The lettuce was crisp, onions were sliced, and tomatoes were firm. The baked potato was served pre-split, yet was siping hot. Even the Texas Toast was perfectly prepared and served hot. A big improvement from last trip! Bravo! The server was polite, yet very busy. When I arrived, she appeared to be the only one on duty. About 15 minutes after 12 noon, a second server appeared and seemed to add some much needed help. Ambiance had improved. Although furnishings were the same, everything had been deep-cleaned, from floor to ceiling. Nice job! I'll be back!
