I've seen Mad For Chicken around for a while but never actually stopped in until now. A friend of mine had tried it before and said it was really good, so my expectations were definitely there. We went during happy hour (drinks are $5 until 6pm ), which is always a win. I tried the lychee-tini and the passion fruit margarita, both were solid. Light, refreshing, and not overly sweet. For $5, you really can't complain. We decided to go with the AYCE seafood boil, and I liked that you have the option to add chicken. Normally, AYCE seafood boils offer a huge variety, and while this one was a bit more limited, it was still more than enough to feel satisfied. We ordered green mussels, shrimp, crab legs, and crawfish. The crawfish was probably my least favorite, but everything else was a hit. The boil also came with corn, boiled eggs, red potatoes, and rice cakes , which I personally I love in a boil. It makes it feel complete. Now let's talk about the chicken. It came with 4 wings, 2 thighs, and 2 legs. I honestly don't remember which sauces we chose, but you really can't go wrong here. The chicken was tender and juicy on the inside with a perfectly crisp, flavorful coating on the outside. That crunch? Chef's kiss. Adding the chicken to the seafood boil was the right decision. It made the whole meal feel extra indulgent and filling. One thing to note: the AYCE menu states that wasted food will result in a $15 charge, so order smart and pace yourself. I typically hate popcorn because it gets stuck in my teeth but this one did not have that issue which was greaaaat. Portion sizes are excellent for the bowls. Got a bulgogi bowl and it came with white rice, carrots, glass noodles, plenty of bulgogi and a sunnyside up egg in a hot stone bowl that kept the food warm for most of the duration I was eating. Also tried the nachos which were huge and loaded with beef chilli, corn, sauces, and guacamole. Happy hour is from 3-7 on weeknights and the 5 dollar price for wings and tenders is unbeatable. We ordered a bunch of items and overall the food was good. We got the large combo Korean fried chicken, half spicy soy garlic / half mango habanero. The chicken itself was super good. That said, it is kind of unreal that with 23 drumsticks and wings, no dipping sauces are included by default! The bulgogi toppoki japchae was tasty and a solid shareable item. The bulgogi bowl with white rice was enjoyable. I liked the flavor of the marinated beef and found it satisfying. The beef chili fries were another highlight. The beef chili and crema sauce worked really well together and I was impressed that the fries stayed crispy even with the toppings. The kids mac and cheese was pretty disgusting but that one is on me. I did not realize it was just microwaved Kraft mac and cheese which I later saw it says on the menu. My kid absolutely hated it. Per the menu, it is supposed to come with a juice box. We asked what the juice was and the server gave options of pineapple or cranberry. We chose pineapple and instead got an actual glass of pineapple juice, then found out later they charged five dollars for it. It was also served in a glass which of course my kid dropped and broke. The scallion chicken was really good. Deep fried boneless chicken breast topped with scallions, red onions, and a slightly sweet sauce. My son actually enjoyed this more than his own meal. This location advertises a 100% halal menu. Service overall was good and everything came out fresh. The inside is small but has good vibes. The bathroom is single use and was clean. Food presentation was nice but it did feel a bit pricey for the portions. Small things all combined (charging for kids pineapple juice, serving kids drinks in a glass, not including dipping sauces and auto adding 20% gratuity for a party of 7 when the menu says 8) took away from what otherwise would have been a great experience. read more

When it came to me and my friend's experience, not only was the food delicious but the service was great as well. The servers were very diligent and made sure to check up on me. They even gave complimentary popcorn, which kind of tasted like curry. I don't remember which Drumsticks & Wings w/ Half & Half Sauce Combo we got, but whatever we got had both THICC drumsticks yet also the smallest teeniest drumsticks. I wish the pieces were cohesive, because it felt like a scam eating such tiny drumsticks. How to share if one person gets a small and someone gets a large piece? But the meat was juicy and the flavor of the Soy Garlic was perfect with a delicious glaze that confirmed why I chose this once as my fave KFC spot. The Parmesan Truffle Fries ($11) was addicting, offering both spicy mayo and ketchup. They were perfectly crispy with a noticeable amount of truffle flavor. The Tteokbokki ($12) was also standard. It had a decent amount of spice. The rice cakes were nice and chewy. There wasn't a lot in this dish though. The soy garlic wings 30pcs was SUPER DRY not much seasoning either, the wing part are inconsistent some are incredibly small and some are in medium size. Growing up with the original Mad for Chicken on Northern blvd, I was so excited to see that they were opening up one in Astoria. I've tried this place now a handful of times but only via delivery. I have yet to dine in and looking forward to doing so. This location does a pretty good job of living up to the OG locations but their consistency can use some work. Sometimes the spicy soy garlic sauce is weak while other times it packs a punch like it normally should. I've had their dubbokki on multiple occasions and sometimes it barely has any rice cakes in it and other times it's an acceptable amount. One other complaint I have is that they charge $3 for a tiny container of radishes... The OG's know that those containers used to be 5x bigger and FREE with every order... It's a straight scam that they're charging $3 for radish!!! I know the cost of making that is super low too so it just seems so ridiculous. Imagine my surprise and joy to find that Mad for Chicken has opened a new location here in Astoria. I no longer need to travel to Flushing or Bayside for their wings, yay! I was randomly walking down 30th Avenue and there they were. Mad for Chicken does fried chicken really well and the small menu at this location proudly highlights that. Yes, there are one or two other items (not chicken related) on their menu like salad and dumplings. BUT I'm no dummy; I ordered the chicken wings and parmesan truffle fries. The chicken were perfect with just the right amount of soy garlic sauce. The wings come with a small serving of daikon radish which is the ideal palate cleanser and goes wonderfully with the wings. The fries were nice and crunchy, not too greasy and with just a hint of truffle. Needless to say, I was in heaven eating this for dinner. Everyone needs to come here and try them out! I must note though, that everything is made to order so expect a little bit of wait time. And yes, prices are on the higher end but on par with other Korean fried chicken restaurants. I love Mad For Chicken and went to the Sunnyside location regularly before it burned down. I was happy to find out that there was an Astoria location so I decided to try it out. I visited on a Monday night and was the only table there. We ordered a bbq chicken burger and a bulgogi burger. The BBQ chicken was cold and the sauce tasted as if it was from the supermarket. The sauce was slapped on as an afterthought. Neither the chicken or bulgogi had flavor. The beef bulgogi burger and fries were at room temperature. I can't understand why the dishes were cold unless they microwave their food? There was only 1 server and he disappeared for a long time in the back.
