Claude The Claw - ONLY on our App or Website
    Danielle D.

Birdbox isn't your typical restaurant--definitely giving ghost kitchen vibes, but don't let that stop you. The food delivers big time. I had the Claude sandwich with the chicken claw, and it was amazing. The claw doesn't have much meat, but it's super Instagrammable and a fun touch. The sandwiches themselves are fat, juicy, and insanely crispy--exactly what you want from fried chicken. Only downside? The sauces are $1 extra, and the portion is pretty small, which felt a bit steep. But if you do get one, make it the Money Sauce--a sweet honey drizzle that seriously elevates the sandwich. Would I order again? Absolutely. Just be ready to eat with napkins nearby--this is messy, indulgent goodness.

My friend who was in town for a work event suggested this spot. She said it was on ig, and the lines were really long on the posts. However, we got there and lined up before it even opened. The line was barely there. It was a bit on the pricey side. Since the food hall was being renovated, you can only order food, and they bring it out to you. So, we had to search for a spot to eat the food. I'm not sure if the area where the coffee stand was at could be used by the bird box patrons. Food wise, we ordered the spicy chicken claw sandwich and the regular chicken sandwich. We asked if we could have it cut in half or at least give us a plastic knife for us to cut it. But neither of what was requested was done. Oh, wells. Also, we placed an order for some fries, too. Overall, everything was good, but it wasn't amazing that I would line up to get it again.

Best fried chicken sandwich I have ever had, even better than the fried chicken from Jacob's Pickle which is a close second. I had Claude the Claw - the claw itself was honestly just a gimmick for social media. The meat though was extremely tender and juicy. The sauce it came with was almost herbaceous and extremely umami (Michelin 2 star quality i would argue). The crispy fried dough around the chicken was very tasty as well. The Cole slaw was not creamy or sweet, very refreshing and light. If it wasn't 10000 calories I'd probably eat one every week. I went 5 min after they opened and was the last person before the Claude sold out. It was a half hour wait to order then 15-20 min to get the food. (Honestly just skip the claw.). I probably won't get it again soon because I don't want a heart attack. But definitely adding to the must do recommendation list for when friends visit NYC etc.

TL;DR: Great chicken sandwiches. Ultra crispy, great sauce. Line up early, apparently they do sell out. Takeout only, too. Lined up about 30min before opening on a weekday. There was already a line and it grew a good bit more (at least ten more or so individuals/groups) by the time of opening. Ordered around 6:10 and got my food around 6:30. Seems like the usual cadence at least when opening is a 15-20min turnaround from ordering. Got the Claude sandwich (classic) with spicy yeyao sauce and money sauce. Also made it a combo so it came with fries. Order came out to be about $27 which is $$$$, but what isn't in NYC? The sandwich itself is very crispy. They really nailed it with the breading. I think the chicken is pretty well-seasoned, although the sauce itself is really what gives it that main distinct flavor (sorta like a raising cane's conundrum). Money sauce is also a nice sweet umami honey. I think the claude sandwich specifically with the leg is a bit gimmicky/for the Instagram influencers, but I recognize it's also a commentary from the founder that's meant to prove that these chickens were well cared for instead of raised in a factory farm. Overall, it's a nice treat! Not sure if I'd wait that long again by myself, but definitely a top choice for anyone looking for a great chicken sandwich.

After seeing birdbox open, I have always wanted to try it and finally did last week! Got Claude the claw--I loved chewing on the claw with the tendon and crispy bits. The chicken sandwich itself was also incredible. The chicken was so flavorful, juicy, crunchy and crispy (even the next day, I separated it from the buns and it was still crispy!!). Loved the pickles and slaw too. I am a sucker for waffle fries and theirs are crack; the seasoning definitely has some sugar to make it all the more savory. Can't wait for my next visit!

Birdbox Chicken Sandwich - okay, not great

Hmm, feels like the previous reviews are coordinated... this was mid at best. Pros - Very Large Portion, Nice Packaging Cons - Bland flavor, not juicy, horrible signage, plastic hanging down from ceiling that you have to step through to order from a kiosk, no attendant or person visible, no human interaction - you order, get a code sent to your phone that unlocks a locker once your order is ready - bizarre overall! There's no storefront or signage for the place, it's a "virtual" food hall / ghost kitchen. I walked by it 4 times before I found it despite being a native New Yorker and extremely familiar with this street - it's right next to Sony Hall, which I've been to a 100+ times... but still very hard to find! You order from a screen with about 20 different "restaurant" menus and then just wait... 2 other people - a girl who ordered before me & an UberEats dude both asked me and each other if we worked there. Super confusing and awful system. The food was also not worth the experience - 1 and Done for me! Def won't be back, way too many better options in NYC. Maybe the original West Coast spot is better, it would have to be... Skip this & hit a Chick-fil-A or better yet go to Sweet Chick if you're near one for superior service & a much better food experience!

Honest review of BirdBox chicken sandwich: Apparently 3rd time was a charm! I put my Birdbox order in the day before for 11:30am, took the subway to the location on 245 W 46th St New York 10036 and still had to wait 15 more mins for my order(no big deal. Good things come to those who wait). I Received my order and made my way back to the office where I had a homeless dude ask if I had any change or food lol, I gave him a 5 because I wasn't parting ways with the sandwich lol. When I opened the bird box in my head I can here the Awwwwwwwwwh sound like I was about to step through heavens gates, I braced myself just in case it was another Instagram hype so I slowly bit into Claude the claw(deboned Thigh and leg filet with a catchy name)and boooy let me tell you the crisp from that sandwich echoed off the walls, the chicken was fried to perfection, so tender, so juicy....just the right amount of spice you would expect from a creation by Chris Bleidorn 2 star Michelin chef and owner of Birdsong located in California. You know how they say Chick-fil-a chicken tastes like it was raised by both parents, well this chicken taste like it was raised by both parents, and they attended every event in this chickens life making it feel loved and cherished lol. I also tried the yeaho sauce that comes with the sandwich...it was creamy and earthy but I will say Chick-fil-a sauce outshines it there! For those a little put off by the chicken foot attached to this chickentasitc creation you can always get the chicken breast sandwich. If you are in the NYC Time Square area plan accordingly, order ahead through their website and enjoy one of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever tried!

We got there right as they opened and there was a bit of a wait to order. Once ordered it took about 20 minutes to get our food. The food itself came extremely well packaged, the presentation was way beyond what I've seen for a chicken sandwich. The food itself was amazing. The sandwich was flavorful, satisfying, and huge so it was a meal and a half on its own. The fries were also surprisingly good. Would recommend everyone try this place once

    David T.

Great chicken sammie and fries! The place is located in a "food hall" where you order at the kiosk and when the food is ready it is placed in a locker where you can unlock it. The sandwich was big and juicy and attached to the chicken feet! Loved the sauce and the waffle fries. Beware - the sandwhich is a bit pricey at 18.99 and fries around 4 99. Definitely come try it if you're interested! I'll be back occasionally as it's good quality though pricey.

It was ok, nothing special in my opinion. They say it's freshly cooked deep fried but the seasoning was not the best for me. It tasted bland. If you do not like seeing a leg of a chicken on a chicken sandwich, you might not want to order here but maybe chick fil a lol. There was no seating area inside, it's one of those places you order on the tablet, get your order, then you leave. Wasn't dirty though, but decent. Close to time square

They are located a little off 8th Ave. you could easily pass them by since there is no storefront. Surprisingly there was no line at 1pm on a Saturday. You order at a kiosk then stand outside waiting for your order. I only ordered the crispy chicken sandwich and it took about 5 minutes to get it. They still had Claude the Claw available. I didn't order it thinking it'd be too much and I wouldn't eat the claw. There's no place to sit so I took my sandwich home. I thought the initial bits of the chicken were good if not a little bland. I regretted not buying a sauce to add some flavor. By the end of the sandwich the chicken was very tough. I couldn't really eat it so I was a bit disappointed. Glad I gave it a try but can't see myself going back.

    Husain V.

Probably one of the best hot chicken sandwich's I've ever ate. I had to get the normal one as they didn't have the one with the whole foot sticking out of it available. It had so much flavor and the spice just hit right. Super solid. Also they package it up so well too that everything stays the same as when it was constructed so it will survive a long walk after you pick it up to go.

    Alex N.

My coworker put me on to this place and said we should try the Claude chicken sandwich. We got there around 11 a.m., and already there was a line. Waited on the line for another 15 minutes and waited for the sandwich, probably for another 10 to 15 minutes. The sandwich is huge. It's very crispy and juicy. It wasn't bad at all, but I am not sure if it lives up to the hype, in my opinion. I would definitely go again and get the spicy falcon chicken sandwich.

And let's just say... the house won. I ordered a Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Wings, Fries, and the 3-sauce flight. The sandwich? Dry, old, and looking like it clocked out an hour before I arrived. The chicken itself was hard on the edges and somehow soggy in the center -- a combination I didn't even know was possible. The mayo situation looked like someone whispered the word "sauce" over the bun and walked away. The Spicy Wings were no better -- overcooked, dark, and tasted like they'd been sitting in the warmer since lunchtime. Not spicy. Not fresh. Just... tired. The fries? Burnt, cold, and absolutely done with life. They didn't even pretend to try. The only thing that saved this meal from being a total loss was the 3-sauce flight. Credit where it's due -- the sauces were actually solid. They added enough flavor and moisture to make the rest at least edible. Without them, this review would've ended a lot sooner. I get it -- it's Penn Station, it's late, everyone's hustling, and the crowd is nonstop. But even with that, freshness shouldn't be optional. Overall: If you're starving and desperate, grab the sauces and hope for the best. Otherwise? Keep walking. There are better options within the same block, even during off-hours. Go to Gardenia. On this occasion, KFC had a promotion to try out the 3 Piece Original Recipe Tenders Box, which came with fries. Since it may not be enough, went for the "Taste of KFC 2 Piece Deal" that included a drumstick, thigh, mashed potatoes with gravy and a biscuit. My order went through KFC's app, which I downloaded now for the 1st time. This location, a block from Penn Station and MSG certainly gets a lot of customers, keeping the KFC busy behind the counter. That being said, all the tables had crumbs and, while I'm eating, some guy came in rummaging through the trash foraging for something to eat and exited with a discarded bucket - making the experience less than optimal. Putting that aside, here's the other reasons this meal dropped from 3 to 2 stars: While I enjoyed KFC Original Recipe Tenders more than a chicken nugget, they gave me Buffalo Ranch sauce instead of the KFC Sauce I ordered. They corrected it, but having now tasted also their Comeback Sauce, I'd order that in the future over the KFC Sauce. The biscuit and was much smaller and drier than I remember, or get elsewhere. The fries were also not something to write home about. Oddly, the 2 Piece Deal ended up with 3 pieces, but the drumsticks were more like drumettes and the thigh was possibly from a runt - so, I guess it was equivalent to the amount of meat I'd expect from 2 normal size pieces. Perhaps these kid's "tea playset"-size components are how they're able to sell this (value) Taste of KFC 2 Piece Meal for $5 - shrinkflation? Would I go back? Not likely to this KFC location due to the other more appealing nearby options, but open to try elsewhere something else on their menu again if the opportunity permits and I'm nearby.
