This was my favorite place for about a year until their lead barista and Manager left. The last two times I've been back for coffee the drip has been brewed poorly and or extracted incorrectly. Really really really delicious beans with the distinct taste of lotion/soap. Oops. Taste starts so good and then gets so gross. Fyi as it cools the taste is even more apparent. Stopped by Mad Lab Coffee to check out their tasty coffee drinks! Their regular ice coffee utilized a coffee bean co-fermented wih green apple and indeed had a prominent apple taste followed by coffee flavors. Sadly they were out of this type of bean until next week, otherwise we would have definitely gotten them! The dolly latte had everything I ever wanted in a latte. Not only was the espresso and milk combined really nicely, but also it was slightly sweetened with ?caramel, almost reminded me of sweet condensed milk. Overall it tasted like a combination of an American latte with Viet coffee! Staff were nice and friendly. Some bench seating on the inside but lots of tables/chairs outside. The seafoam green is hard to miss and pretty aesthetically pleasing in contrast to the shades of coffee brown. Street parking only. Would definitely stop by next time I'm in town! read more

I'm always looking for a cozy local, artisan coffee place near my hood and this one hit the spot. They roast their own beans and wow! Got an iced latte (baristas choose the week's beans) and loved their pick -- yergacheffe. The mid-city Pico location is far from status-seeking crowds and a chill place to hang out over great brews. Firstly, I ordered ahead with the InKind app, which was very easy and allows you to earn cash back. I love their Dolly latte and find it the right line of sweetness. I also got their monkeybread which was fabulous! It's like a cinnamon roll taste profile in a more cake configuration. Being pregnant, I'm limiting my caffeine intake, but I did want the taste of coffee to help satiate my craving. There was no decaf option for me. My partner and I came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was just as the barista had stepped away. Once they came back, a few other folks came by, so it does ebb and flow in terms of business. This is their second location, with their first one being on Sunset, but I prefer this one because of the wider variety of parking options, even if it can be a walk at times. What I got: - Giddy up: $7 - Espresso tonic: $4 - Morning bun: $4-7 (can't remember the exact price anymore). Ginormously sugary and delicious - perfect with my Giddy Up. I'd like to try their other drinks, especially their matchas. Yhere is a small-ish inside cafe, but it was closed when I was there, so I haven't been in there. And, I opted to sit outside where there are a few tables, chairs, and benches right outside where you order from. The ambiance is relaxed, with speakers playing music. Since this one is on Pico, so parking can be challenging at times because it's rather limited street parking (all of which are paid), but if you drive around a bit, you should be able to find free street parking in the neighbourhood (as long as you don't mind walking a bit). read more

As much as I want to love this place just like how good the coffee I ordered (oat latte) but not being able to have my sandwich warmed up is terrible. It's a gloomy cold day and I'd like to use the restroom while waiting for my coffee and he said it's not a public restroom. I went back to work and warmed up the Caprese sandwich $15 I got from them and it's okay. Not bad. I don't think I'll be coming back since there are other coffee shops that would cater warming up a sandwich and with a restroom for customers. read more

I was in the area the other day, and I noticed a green business so I went to check it out. The barista was super friendly and helpful with suggestions. I ended up with a matcha latte sweetened with honey and oat milk and my friend got a specialty latte - sugar cookie latte (iced). The drink came standard with oat milk. I think they were both delicious beverages, but the matcha lacked the matcha taste. They have different flavors to sweeten your lattes up. They use one of my favorite oat milk brands here - Minor Figures. The sugar cookie latte was more on the sweeter side, with a slight taste of espresso in each sip. Pricing is average, between $6-7. Parking is street parking. I think you get your average latte and service at this coffee shop! read more

Mad Lab had a grand opening on April 8th at their new location on 5508 W. Pico Blvd. I heard about their Sunset location through a friend but didn't have the chance to try it until now so what better way than to go to their grand opening! They were very generous to their community and provided free coffee, pastries and breakfast sandwiches on opening day! I met a few of the owners and they were very nice and friendly and grateful we were there. I ordered their Dolly Latte which is their house crafted sweetened latte. It was very delicious, not too sweet and I could still taste the coffee. I liked the color of their cups as well. A creative eye here just making an observation haha. Service on opening day was on point. Very friendly staff and efficient. They were crafting out drink by drink! There was lines out the door and everyone was patient and chill. Ambiance is chill with speakers setup up to play music outside, some tables, chairs and bench right outside. The inside is small but cute, with a wall color that pops. You can also pick up some coffee beans and merch. I picked up a bag of beans, Doc Brown, to take home as I love to grind whole beans and brew my coffee. This has tasting notes of Chocolate, Mulberry, Marshmallow, Future, Charisma! Looking forward to next time! read more

My first time coming to this location, and I was so pleased. I ordered a cappuccino with a little splash of "dreamsicle" and it was wonderful. I enjoyed every drop. I love that the location is open late for those of us that need a night cap. Best part of my experience was meeting James, the barista that assisted me. He was so sweet and engaging. Some of the best coffee I got to try in LA. I ended up coming back every morning during my trip. Great pastries and honestly really really interesting coffee. As a coffee lover, their beans are SO interesting. I ended up buying a bag of their "Colombia El Indio, Planadas, Tolima". One of the most interesting beans I've had the pleasure to try. I'm usually a big fan of South America chocolate notes, and not a big fan of fruitier beans. But this was a great mixture of "dark chocolate covered blueberries" as I described it. I found MadLab in a moment of desperation looking for *good* coffee in the mid-city area. I don't get to MadLab super often, but when I do they make a mean cup of coffee . From the first time I went the staff were super friendly and made beverage suggestions and suggestions on coffee, etc. The drink the barista suggested to me on my first visit has become my go to whenever I visit. They seem like real coffee folks who know *a lot* about coffee (without being pretentious) which I love shops like that. The shop itself is tiny but cute (and clean!), and they have sidewalk tables. Last time we had been to LA we stopped at Mad Lab and had phenomenal coffee but we weren't psyched about the location so we decided to try another. Similar to the order-to-go counter location, parking is difficult (but a lot of LA is so there it is I guess). The area is also very busy. There were a bunch of people sitting outside but only one person ordering inside. The inside is pretty small but very cute. They had a beautiful display case of pastries (I don't think any were vegan so we did not have any). Like last time we both had oat milk lattes and took them to go. Coffee was really good but not quite as great as their other location but still better than most coffee shops in general. Would recommend both Mad Lab locations I've been to so far. read more

wanted to like this place - sometimes the coffee just tastes bad. it's very very expensive, about $22 for a coffee and a cold sandwich. on top of this, service is kind of bad. everyone is nice, just seems this place falls short. friend thought her drink tasted sour from the milk, so she asked for another one, charged another $7 for a latte. no apology. nothing. i had a free item to redeem, went through the checkout process to be told "that's weird! it didn't recognize your card. maybe next time?" and pay $22. Oh and they forgot my sandwich when all they do grab it from the fridge. all honest mistakes and no one is mean, im not a super demanding person, but there's always something annoying about how they handle things. read more

Parking: While parking on Pico might be rough at times, there's plentiful neighborhood parking. You may need to walk a little but tons available. Overall, this place is awesome. The cold brew was great as it was very smooth, acidic and had good clarity. The Dolly is their take on a vanilla latte and has a caramel-y aftertaste. The type of people who make your day with their kindness. I've been to their other locations which are great too but this one is special. I visited Mad Lab Coffee and had a terrible experience. The service was abysmal from start to finish. I requested an iced coffee drink without ice, and the barista gave me such a bad attitude, making a big fuss about removing the ice when it should have been a simple request. The cashier was extremely rude and seemed annoyed by my presence and such simple accommodation. When I finally got my order, all of my drinks were filled with ice, and when I politely pointed this out, the barista rolled their eyes and told me to scram and remove the ice outside the shop by the tree. This is definitely not a kid-friendly spot. I was there with my young child, and the lack of compassion for a mom juggling four drinks and a kid was glaring. Service is one star due to the lack of empathy and professionalism.
