The food here is delicious and served in generous portions. I appreciate that almost anything can be made vegan without sacrificing flavor. The seasonal corn chowder is worth trying. My go-to favorite entrees are the tofu tacos and Mad Mex Burrito with portobello.

Back on a Friday night for more Mad Mex! Service was excellent and they accommodated our request to sit downstairs. Food was excellent as always. It was Corn Festival so I tried the Crabby Corn Quesadilla. It was sooo good. Absolutely stuffed with crab and corn, I enjoyed every bite! I ordered a side of guac, which was also delicious but not really needed because the quesadilla was we excellent on its own. Bonus points for having the world cup game on the big screen too!

One of the only good reasonable priced Mexican restaurants in the city with good quality meats and great drinks they're definitely worth it. I love their Quick and efficient service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]& with a nice fiesta day of living dead vibes it's always good they never disappoint.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Had a really yummy birthday meal at Mad Mex. I appreciate that the BBG offers such good rewards for birthdays and celebrations. I got the big burrito and it was so good. I love that it has steak and chicken in it. They were also able to accommodate me and put vegan cheese. The best part of the burrito is the waffle fries instead of rice. Also, happy hour is great! I got a cider for half off the normal price. Our server Kerri was great and really attentive and nice.

Always a great visit to the Shadyside Mad Mex! Check their website before you visit - they have daily specials on food and drink that's worth the search. After craving some Birria tacos, my friend and I decided to stop at Mad Mex after visited the Barnes and Nobles nearby. Big portions, huge variety of menu items, and an extensive drink list - someone in your group is bound to find something to like here. Service was amazing and we were able to be seated immediately!

Six of us went to Mad Mex yesterday for dinner a little before 6:30pm and were able to get a table right away. We were seated in a cozy little booth tucked behind the bar. Our server was super nice and we were able to get a few drinks during happy hour before it ended at 6:30pm. We ordered a few apps and entrees and they all came out fairly quickly. Everything was tasty and was reasonably priced. Would come back!!

I have the nachos or birria quesadilla FAR too often because they're delicious. The service is fast and the vibe is never too dead or too busy too get a table. Margaritas are also delicious either on the rocks or slushy.

The service was great. The menu changed a bit with bringing back the enchiladas but taking away the chimichangas sadly. Marqs are always on spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice crowd.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Good for happy hour! This is a family style restaurant with a good happy hour. They have seasonal and special flavor margs for a good deal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got an apple cider marg and strawberry marg with a plate of southwestern wings. The wings were alright, they had a bit of crunch and were super saucy. The highlight of it was how cheap they were. The margs were like juice. The apple cider was very on point and the strawberry marg apparently is flavored with their house made strawberry syrup. There was little actual alcohol in both. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall a good meetup spot for a chat and some food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

5 of us ate here for lunch and the food was good. I was surprised that rice and beans didn't come with the fajitas and chips and salsa were ala carte. The food was fresh and everyone liked it! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cool atmosphere too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was good!

5/5/25 Ate List: Chicken Nachos Grande - 7.1 Mad Mex on Cinco De Mayo. We had their loaded nachos and was pleasantly surprised. Overall was good. These chips feel like their meant or intended for nachos. They are "sturdy" and not all that light. Splitting the app between two of us was plenty. Was delicious and service was great!

Does mad Mex ever suck? To me personally - no. I enjoyed some of the late night items and the Shadyside only options, everything being great. Came out hot and fresh. The portion size is great and we had ourselves a time!

To start, we had the jalapeño cheese dip. The jalapeño flavor was subtle, but detectable. However the cheese tasted like American, so it wasn't the most authentic. For my main, I asked if they could add soy-chorizo to the mushroom and cheese enchilada and the waiter said they were not able to, which was a little disappointing. I ended up getting the enchilada with just soy-chorizo. It was tasty, but the soy-chorizo was a bit dry. My husband enjoyed the steak burrito, but found their hibiscus juice a bit too sweet.

These tacos are made Mexican style, meaning it comes with onions and cilantro with lime on the side. It also came with a side of grilled onions and potatoes. The potatoes were too soft in my opinion. I think if you were going for grilled side veggies, it's better to make it a tad crispy and browned. For the Taco Tuesday Special, I got the al pastor, steak fajita, and chicken tinga tacos. The best one had to be the al pastor because it wasn't dry and had lots of flavor. I opted for the red morita spicy sauce, and trust it actually has spice and kick to it. The tacos are double layered, which is nice. Decent meal for a Tuesday dinner, their menu is pretty basic for a taco place. For instance, their only dessert is churros with chocolate sauce.

The service is fast, they make it in front of you, and you have the option of picking some stuff up at the grocery store while you are there. Friendly family type ambiance and it feels good to know you are supporting a small business like this. At $4 a taco, when they are generous with the authentic meat filling, double up on the freshly grilled corn tortillas, and allow unlimited toppings made fresh daily make these tacos one of the best deals around. The filling is already super flavorful, so you don't necessarily need extra toppings, but I like adding extra onions and cilantro. For me, a lot of the salsas were extra spicy, so my recommendation is to taste them before putting them on the taco. The ones I got honestly didn't need any extra added flavor. I got the steak and onions and the pork with pineapple and loved them both equally. I got them last week and already miss them - the smell and texture of the meat, the fresh toppings, how your breath tastes after, the combo of everything together - definitely a solid taco joint

So far, I think that I have been a customer of only their tent that was set up at the Pittsburgh Taco Festival in 2025. I bought one al pastor (pork) taco and one bisteck (beef) taco for about $8 total. The employees had the meat pre-cooked, so I did not have to wait long for my tacos to be ready. My husband and I shared the tacos, and we both enjoyed them. My husband said that he liked the flavors of the meats.
