Celebrated my wife's birthday along with our daughters tonight at Mad Mex. Not a great experience. Our server (I'll call her "Regina" because she reminded me of Regina George from Mean Girls) set the tone as we took our seats, hurriedly asking us what we wanted to drink. I was still settling into my chair, but I said "Oh - OK, let me see," and flipped through the menu while the kids gave their drink orders. I realized after a few seconds that the drinks must be listed elsewhere, but I didn't want to drag things out so I just said, "I'll take a margarita." Regina gave me a pitying half-smile and said with withering condescension, "Uh, that's the drink menu over there," gesturing toward it (while she didn't actually add "loser," it seemed implied somehow). I wanted to say, "I'm very sorry, but you see I just sat down 3 seconds ago and hadn't even had time to look around the table to spot the drink menu. Could you maybe slow it down a little?" But I didn't think to say that until after she had speed-walked away. After about a minute had passed, she returned with the kids' drinks and asked us if we were ready to order. Our youngest got a little flustered and started to order but clearly hadn't made up her mind yet, so Regina took the hint and offered to come back. When she returned with my wife's and my drinks a few minutes later, she then asked us what we were having in a way that made it clear she would be taking our order now, right now. I wasn't ready but the others were, so I let them order while I quickly scanned the menu. We ordered chips and salsa as an appetizer, specifically the "Pickadippa" with queso blanco, guac and salsa. I was hungry and was looking forward to that as a starter. The appetizer was a no-show but the rest of our food showed up with impressive speed - everything we'd ordered was on our table within, I'd say, under 10 minutes. I'd barely touched my drink so far but that was OK, I was hungry, as mentioned previously. I tucked into my dinner, but my wife had the presence of mind to catch our retreating server and ask about the appetizer. Regina said she would check on it. Shortly afterward a manager came out and explained that our appetizer had been given to another table in error, who had claimed it as their own. So she kindly comped it and promised we'd have it soon, and we did. We were now halfway through our meals and had lost a lot of our interest in chips and salsa, but we gamely ate it along with our entrees. (I recount the appetizer incident not because it was a big deal - it wasn't, these things happen - but because Regina didn't take any ownership of it and left it for her manager to take care of. Our actual server never said a word about it.) When it came time to pay the check, along with my card I included the printout of the birthday discount my wife had brought with her (a nice loyalty perk that Big Burrito offers). Regina swung by, grabbed the check tray and started to hurry away, but before she had vanished I turned to her and mentioned, just to make sure she was aware of it, "We have a birthday coupon there for one of our entrees," to which Regina sort of grimaced and said, "Uh...OK?" as though it was completely unnecessary for me to say that, which maybe it was. But again, the frosty mean-girl disdain. In truth, she had treated my whole family like we smelled bad from the moment we sat down. Literally as though there was something repulsive about us and she could barely bring herself to speak to us. I can attest that we all shower daily and that my wife and daughters are not remotely repulsive. Me, I dunno. So, thanks to speed queen Regina, our entire birthday dinner lasted about 45 minutes, tops, from walking in to walking out. And that would be great if we'd been, I don't know, late for the opera and really needed a speedy meal. But personally, on the rare occasions when we go out to eat at a halfway civilized restaurant, I like to sit and enjoy my food. You know, chew it. I don't need hours and hours, but maybe a little longer than 45 minutes including drinks, appetizer, entree and (the kids') dessert. The food was fine, reliably tasty Mad Mex food. No problems there. And the kids had fun and didn't notice anything amiss, thankfully. But for me and my wife, our server's demeanor just made the whole experience kind of unpleasant. Maybe Regina was just having a bad day and I should cut her some slack. But I mean...it's hard not to take it personally when your server is not only rushing the meal to an almost comical degree, but also seems to have an attitude toward you from start to finish when you did nothing to upset them other than being seated in their section. Maybe it's not her fault at all - maybe Big Burrito is training their servers to turn around tables as fast as humanly possible now. They didn't used to. Mexican for dinner! We visited Mad Max last night and have always enjoyed the food in the past. Today was no different. Chicken fajitas and crispy shrimp tacos is what we decided on. The food was delicious. The only downside was the jalapeños had full seeds in them - making it hard to enjoy them and the parking lot - on the smaller size near the restaurant. Had dinner for a friends birthday on a Tuesday evening and everything was really good! It was quite busy (taco Tuesday I assume) but we were able to get a table without issue. Drinks were delish and the dips were good. Guac was my favorite and the queso was super salty but otherwise fine! My steak and street corn tacos were really good and they were generous with the steak, asked how I wanted it to be cooked which is always a sign of decent preparation. It didn't disappoint. The effervescent Mia served us, she is the most delightful server I have had in a long time! The food was 10x better because she gave us quality service. Everything tastes better when the atmosphere is fresh. Her recommendation was spot on, I wanted food with spice and that's what I go. The menu has improved over my visit years ago. Parking here on the side is a bit dangerous, you cant see if people come flying around the parking lot corner. I'd almost recommend parking in the main lot rather than on the side. Not a huge deal, as I ate them. The water cups were CLOUDY. I realize this might be a water or a dishwasher issue, but not good. Makes them look dirty and me uncomfortable to drink from. No lie and not an exaggeration, but it was less than 5minutes before our meals came out. How is this even possible unless everthing was reheated? I orderd a carnitas quesadilla. The meat itself had a nice flavor to it, but it had a weird mexican slaw on it, that i ended up trying to pick away. I got guac on the side, and that was actually really good. It was chunky and flavorful. My friend got a grilled chicken taco, hard shell. She said it was alright, nothing special. Her rice, she didn't even touch...it looked like microwave rice that was just thrown on and had a weird texture to it. It was a cheap meal, but I can say I won't be back any time soon. The whole Mad Mex franchise has been on the decline since well before Covid but this location is the best example of this. I will say MM is consistent - food is always meh while the Margaritas are always strong and they do constantly have seasonal offerings. The waitstaff is attentive and friendly and can handle the dinner rush, however the kitchen does seem to struggle when the restaurant is busiest. read more

Ive never had food from Mad Mex before, but I decided to order takeout and try! The experience of getting takeout was super easy, so that was awesome! I got a fajita burrito and a side of queso and chips. Overall I would say the food was very mid. It wasn't bad but just wasn't great. The queso was thicker which isn't my preferred and my burrito didn't have a lot of flavor or seasoning and was super dry. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, or maybe it just wasn't my thing. Me and my boyfriend were there last night, and it was odd. Usually we go in the spring or summer, so we can eat outside. No chips and salsa was offered and then we learned that's only for customers sitting at the bar. So we each ordered a quesadilla, sour cream was an extra charge, which we opted for. But it literally came in 3 pieces and the plate was small. No rice, pico de gallo, and no other garnish on the plate. The restaurant floor was so dirty and although we asked for a booth, they sat us at a large round booth, in front near the door. Near us was a large party that yelled there was poop on the floor. I was surprised that our water was never refilled, soft drink was never refilled, and empty plates were never removed from the table. I used to love this place and ordered frequently. Their ingredients used to taste fresh and flavorful, but something has changed. I think they are now saving food day after day instead of making fresh food and you can absolutely tell. I went yesterday and my food was so bad I barely ate a bite. It's very disappointing because it used to be so good. I will absolutely not go back. Our waiter was just the kindest, though, so I really didn't want to ruin his day. When I nicely told him the salsa he had served us tasted like the tomatoes were rotten, he felt so badly and was so gracious, so I just didn't want to tell him how bad the rest of the food was. There are a variety of regular flavors and always a couple interesting seasonal ones. Their wings are probably some of my favorites. They are well fried with a good crisp and the sauce is on point. We got the chicken quesadilla this time, and unfortunately it was dry. They flavor was good, but it definitely required some sour cream with every bite. I go to mad mex at this location fairly often with friends. I like the shopping strip complex as it has plenty of parking and it's convenient. The staff here seems always friendly, we generally have to trouble finding a spot at the bar for happy hour and is typically a pleasant experience. It never gets too overwhelmingly loud that we can't hear each other. We are big fans of the margaritas but I'm recently obsessed with the crab quesadilla. It's amazing and tastes super fresh. I mistakingly didn't see the fine print. We proceeded with our order. My burrito and my husband's tacos were not much better than Taco Bell. We won't be back. I've heard and seen the hype around the infamous Gobblerito but I never tried it until recently. It's a Thanksgiving dinner wrapped in a tortilla blanket and topped with gravy. What more could you ask for? There's Stuffing, turkey, mashed potatoes, and corn inside. I was sold and I was full. It paired well with the apple cider margarita. The service was good. It was the first day of the Gobblerito special and our server Rachel was doing her best and killing it. The guacamole is brown and very clearly from either early this morning or yesterday. I cannot believe someone would give this to a customer -they wouldn't serve it to their mother that's for sure. I don't review often but I feel I've visited here enough to finally take the time to write one. Every time I'm here, I'm treated well by all of the staff. The service is always top tier. I usually sit at the bar but even the times I've been sat at tables, it's been exceptional. There is always good music playing and the lower lighting is always a vibe. Don't sleep on mad mex! It is located across the street from Bennihanna and is located inside a strip mall. The atmosphere is super laid back and the decor inside is super interesting. As far as the food, the chicken fajitas and the margs paired with the outdoor patio seating were amazing. We also got some of the southwestern wings and they unique and tasty. So what do you do when you get home really late from work and have not planned anything for dinner. You go to Mad Mex and use your gift card. The decor is typical Mad Mex, kind of funky and fun. Our service was great. The place was busy but did have some empty tables. Decided to skip the nachos and dip and just had Spicy Mad Mex Burrito with flank steak. The burritos are large at Mad Mex and it was well prepared and tasty. My partner in indulgence had the fish tacos and was able to eat all three..darn thought I would get one for lunch tomorrow. Mad mex is one of my favorite chains and I really like this location. The servers are always very personable and work hard to make sure you have a good experience. I really like the atmosphere inside as well, the lights are dimmed everywhere except right on the tables, which puts the food in the spotlight. For appetizers we usually get the dip trio and go with the guac, regular salsa, and queso. The guac is great here, my favorite is the pineapple guac. The salsa is average. I am not a fan of the queso. I think it is too spicy and doesn't have much flavor. However, a lot of my friends are obsessed with it so this may just be a personal taste thing for me. My go to meal here is the buffalo wing tacos. The sauce is really what makes these. It is a different kind of buffalo sauce and I am not sure what exactly is in it, but it goes perfect with the tacos. For my side I usually get either the waffle fries or cornbread, both of which are great. My wife usually gets the fajitas or the goblerito (if in season). These are both must tries. They also usually have seasonal drink options which can be very good. read more
