in all fairness the makeup lady was OUTSTANDING! the owner seems fair and we shall see! the hair stylist we had was HORRIBLE! 2 hour late on arriving! rushing styles telling people she was going to have to rush them! telling people that style wouldn't hold due to the humidity which in all fairness it was the girls choice not the stylist! I am so glad I booked Madame Makeup and Hair. They came highly recommended by my wedding planner (Nancy Hernandez, who is awesome). I am fairly clumsy with makeup and hair, and Nancy is awesome, so I went with her recommendation. In the time I booked MM, my fiance and I moved cross country and I started a new job, so I didn't really have the time or energy to arrange a trial. I eventually did (about 2 days before our wedding), and was gobsmacked by how much I liked both of them. I have thick hair with fine strands that never works with styling, and somehow Leslie gave me volume and body with my updo. Liz did a great job at giving me both full coverage and natural makeup. They were able to have a hair and makeup come for the three times I needed them. Not only were they able to come in such short notice but their hair and makeup artists are AMAZING! I had my wedding make up done here by a very wonderful make up artist! I forgot her name but if she sees this, I would love to get her name and go back! I got married on 11-22-11! My make up artist was very nice, polite and she did a wonderful job on my make up. I'm not use to wearing a lot of make up so to me, my eyebrows looked a bit heavy but in all my wedding photos, everything looked perfect! Can I give negative stars!? I really had a hard time with the salon that did my trial for my wedding, and I've used one of the makeup artists "on location" once before, and they seemed legit. After my disasterous trial, my husband took me here, even though they were much more expensive than the other places, he wanted me to go to a professional and get it done correctly. First off, they don't answer their phone. So we ended up driving there. I talked to one of the staff, and she assured me that they can replicate anything I want, so just bring a picture. And she also assured me multiple times that they guarentee their hair and makeup 24 hours. So the day of, I go with my mom and my mother in law and all three of us need to do hair and makeup. What is with salons where you have to wait for 15-20 minutes after your appointment time??!! I walked in, and there was another group of 5 women getting their hair and makeup done. Ok... no problem, there is enough chairs to wait... but there was only 2 makeup artists and 1 hair stylist... After waiting there for 20 minutes without being awknowledged, my mother in law said something... we had to be at the church in 3 hours... !!!!!! Already, I am feeling very upset, as it is stressful on the day of any bride's ceremony. Well, after much huffing and puffing, they had to ask the other group (who had 5 hours till their ceremony versus my 3) and they started my makeup... I asked for shimmery and light... and she made it matte. I mean, dark purple eyebrows and matte foundation. I am not texan, I am from california... I am not used to matte makeup... clearly she could tell I did not like it, so this of course put her in a bad mood... well... thank goodness I brought my own makeup, I had her use my pore minimizer and then my illuminated tinted moisturizer. The make up artist only had MAC makeup, and it is usually too heavy for me. I think what really upset me was that during the entire time she was doing my makeup, she was texting and on the phone... This was so unprofessional... I'm not sure who thinks that it is ok to pay nearly $200 to have someone text on their cell.... (insert rolling eyes here) So, the hair up do... I had pictures, but she ended up doing her own variation of it. I didn't want to have her yank my hair so I kept my mouth shut... While my mother was getting her hair done, I went to pay, and the hair stylist, like she was still in highschool, walked over to the makeup artist, wrote a note to her, whispered in her ear, rolled her eyes at me and then went back to continue the hair styling. I don't really pull the race card... ever... I am proud to be a US citizen, born and raised here in the states. I joined the Army because I love my country. But you know, there have been a few times where I have felt treated like a 2nd class citizen. There was a clear difference in how they treated the other wedding party. They happened to be all caucasian. They were very professional and accomodating to them, and for some reason, from the moment I walked in the door to when I left, there was a feeling like they hated me. You know, counting the other group and mine, there was a total of 8 women that needed hair and makeup. They only provided 2 makeup artists and 1 hair stylist. They had me for a 3 hour block. When I asked them about it, they were very rude and said that they knew how to time it where they could finish. I only finished on time by the grace of my mother in law who demanded to be seen first after waiting 20 minutes to be awknowledged. DON"T GO THERE! You know, sounds petty, but since they assured me multiple times, I just want to say, my hair was completed by 3:30pm and by 6pm, my hairdo was falling out, And, note to the hair stylist, when you hairspray the finished product, IT WOULD BE NICE TO GIVE A WARNING OR SHIELD THE CUSTOMERS FACE SO THAT YOU DON"T HAIRSPRAY THEIR ENTIRE FACE!!!!!! Went to madame makeup for a trial bridal hairstyle and makeup. I loved the hair trial and was told to book same day to guarantee that the stylist who did my hair would be booked for my wedding day. They didn't inform me of the change in stylists until the day of my wedding when I showed up. This created some anxiety but they reassured me the new stylist would be excellent. The new stylist used a different approach to the same hairstyle. It felt loose and I asked for lots of pins to make sure it was secure. Unfortunately my hair style came apart before the end of the night on my wedding day. Would not recommend and would use caution with their misleading sales approach. Would much rather have the same hairstylist doing my trial and hair on wedding day which is what I was told verbally would be the case. read more

I had a great experience at Madam Make-up and Hair. My best friend got married and there were a lot of us to tend to, and Elizabeth and her staff handled us with grace, from a 4 year old to a great grandma. The salon is clean and so cute! Located in Olmos Park. Our group was large and they were patient and professional about getting us all done, and making sure there was extra time to attend to the most special appointment: the bride! I wore a Moroccan patterned dress and Elizabeth did my make-up incorporating some of the color, but in a way that was appropriate for a wedding. Plus, through the rain my make-up lasted all night! I'm not sure what to say about MM. Let me highlight the positive experiences first. My trial hair and makeup went well to prepare my look for my bridal portraits. I like how the ladies take note and pictures to file for your big day. I have no complaints about the service, all the ladies are polite and informative, and treated my mother and I with respect & courtesy. I loved how my hair and makeup turned out for my wedding and it held up! Esp in this summer heat! My hair was done by Beth and makeup by Bobbie. I love their work and would recommend them because the final bride look turns out super pretty! BUT.....not without saying the- **CONS: On my wedding day, I was told and assured I would have the makeup artists work for us between the hours of 12-4pm. However, both makeup artists were pressed for time to have to be somewhere by 3pm. I wish I would have been told ahead of time that they would not be able to stay and work for us in the time expected instead of telling us right when we got to the venue. I could've investigated another place that would have had that full availability. I did inform the salon we had 6 ladies getting their makeup done and in essence it only turned out to just be 5. Point being, I felt very let down because I felt like that time should have been reserved for us. I can understand leaving right at 4, but when I saw them start to pack up at 2:45pm and say "sorry, we have another make up session..." you just feel this sense of you're on your own because we need to be somewhere else. My mother was almost missed because of THEIR time conflict. Thank you Genieva for staying to do her makeup. My mom is 72 years old and not that it matters to Madame Makeup or to anyone else, but it mattered to her & it mattered to me that she also felt special on the wedding day as mother of the bride. She waited so patiently for the other girls to get done that when it was her turn around 3pm, you best believe it was infuriating to hear that the MM girls "needed" to leave. Please don't double-book your clients when we are willing to pay. Getting makeup done isn't free, we were happy to pay for each girl, we were not looking for a freebee, so why cheat the client of the time they're expecting to have your staff.?. oh well, 3 stars bc that's the memory of the makeup experience on my day. read more

Came in today for an appointment only to realize I was at the WRONG salon. Oh no! I felt super embarassed, but Jennifer did my hair for me at 830 am on a Saturday before a large bridal party came in. She saved the day! I wasn't trying to push my luck, but I also needed a makeup app as I had left my kit at home and I was able to squeeze in on a Saturday morning. My hair was placed in a gorgeous up-do that was period specific, and they even put in my ever important feather headpiece effortlessly. My makeup was amazing! DO NOT GO HERE. I REPEAT, DO NOT GO HERE. I'M NOT impressed. THEY TAKE FOREVER AND DON'T PROVIDE ENOUGH MAKEUP ARTISTS/HAIRDRESSERS. I'm completely serious when I say this. The makeup artists are not that great, and they take way too long. They waste time just talking amongst each other and the hair dressers. Only reason I went to get my makeup professionally done was because it was my brother's wedding. First day they did an okay job. My makeup was fine, but my mom's eye mascara kept rubbing off on her lower lid and upper lid the entire night. I kept having to clean it off the entire night. My hair was a TRAIN WRECK. I only did big voluminous curls. My hair didn't even stay. It frizzed up and became super ugly. Second day of the wedding, my mom looked terrible and my eyebrows were filled in TOO MUCH. The lady who did my mom's makeup did a HORRIBLE, I EMPHASIZE HORRIBLE JOB. My mom looks young and they made her look like an old lady. Unfortunately I was getting my hair done while she was getting her makeup done so I couldn't really say anything while the lady was doing her makeup, because I couldn't see. I knew my mom was upset, and I tried to get it fixed too. Eye shadow looked horrendous, eye liner wasn't even straight. She was being really rude too and was trying to blame things on me. The lady who did her hair used so much freaking hairspray that it looked oily. We got to Madamme at 5 am and left at like 8:30 am. It was ridiculous, and we were late for the wedding ceremony. I recently got married and had my hair and makeup done at madame makeup and hair. I worked with Beth and Elizabeth mostly. They did such an amazing job. I did my hair with them a total of four times including bridals, engagements, wedding, and trial. They were super professional, on time, and yes! the makeup lasted all day and night!!!! (I only had to touch up my lipstick once) On the day of the wedding, some of the bridesmaids ended up doing their hair/makeup and we were finished with plenty of time and they too looked amazing (you should see the complicated hairstyle my maid of honor pulled off last minute and it looked amazing!) Hair and makeup looked ok, just ok, for everyone. I was thinking they would do something that would be hard for someone without experience to do. I knew we would be outside for about an hour and I specifically asked about the makeup standing up against the heat and sweat. I was told the makeup will stay put for 18 hours, just to have lipstick . Unfortunately, before we ever even made it to the ceremony (right downstairs), let alone outside, I was having to get black from underneath and on top of the eyes of 3 of my girls. For a total of about $550 for hair, $355 for makeup, plus me having to pay for parking, I just don't think it was worth it. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS PLACE TO MY WORST ENEMY FOR HER WEDDING DAY! I wish I did not have to give them any stars. I went in for a make up and hair trial for my wedding day hair and makeup, and I don't think I've had such an awful experience in a salon in my entire life. First of all, they texted a confirmation, which I responded to, then called twice during the work day. When I called back to see what they needed the girl was extremely snippy saying they wanted to make sure I was going to show up; I had never given any indication that I wasn't going to. The girls were rude from the moment I walked in. Every other salon I have ever been in has offered me a drink, a place to put my purse ect. My maid of honor came with me and they didn't offer her a chair to sit in. I was not aware that two different women would be doing my hair/ makeup so when I sat down I began explaining the whole look I was hoping for. The hair girl (I believe her name was Alexis) interrupted me and very brusquely informed me that she was not doing my makeup so she didn't need to know what I wanted. She then curled my hair (putting hardly any product on it to hold, even though I said multiple times that my hair did not hold curl well) and after less than 30 minutes said she was done. It looked like a very poorly done prom hairstyle, and nothing like the pictures I had shown her. The bobby pins were showing everywhere (and were gold on my brown hair), there was no elegance, flow, or intricateness to the style. When I asked if there was a way she could cover the bobby pins (I have multiple stylists in my family; I know its absolutely possible and favorable; what stylist would let someone walk out like that?!) she sighed and told me my hair was really too short (it is about five inches longer than shoulder length). When I pushed the issue and said that I wanted at least a braid or something covering the pins and to make it look like pretty for my WEDDING DAY she said we could do more that day and pinned a couple pieces. (why would I bank on you doing a better job on such an important day?!) Every time I asked her to tweak something, or what product she was using she sighed and acted annoyed. The makeup artist did a decent job, but it was nothing that I couldn't do myself. She actually answered the questions I had, but acted bored and annoyed; these products are going on my face; I would like to have an idea of what they are. She used old drugstore mascara with the same wand that she has probably used on every other girl. I had said I really wanted my eyes to pop and after one swipe of the cheapie mascara she was done. I asked to make my lips look a little plump and she drew on way over exaggerated lips. Bobby pins were already falling out of my head before I walked out, and three hours later there was not a trace of makeup and my hair had completely fallen; so there is no way it would stay through a full day of wedding events. This was such a disappointment, and the money charged for the trial was a total waste. My hair and makeup stay better when I do it myself. I literally would rather do my own hair and makeup than use them. At the end she asked if I wanted to book them and I truly could not believe it. Not only did they do a terrible job, but their attitudes were miserable and rude. With how many woman are going to need hair and makeup on my wedding day these stylists would be with us for 4+ hours, you would think that they would want to be kind and add excitement. read more

I was there yesterday with my niece's wedding party. We were made to feel at home right away. There were a ton of us and we brought in food and mimosas and visited while we watched the makeup artists at work, taking on one by one until we were all done. We got there at 9am and didn't leave until almost 3pm....and not one of them took a single break. There were four of them: Elizabeth, Alexis, Roxy, Donoma. They were all great. I wasn't sure who I'd end up with but by the time it was my turn, I was sure it didn't matter because they were all good. Elizabeth did my make up and Roxy did my hair. Elizabeth was a true pro and actually made me look skinny! Roxy is a total people person and we visited while she did my hair. I had an excellent experience and would totally go back in two seconds. Some suggestions would be to make sure you have product in your hair and your hair dried before you arrive. Knowing my hair doesn't keep its curl, i used product and dried my hair before going. They don't wash your hair and start from scratch so come ready. Maybe they do if you ask, I don't know but I knew this from my nieces trial so I was ready. read more

I feel really fortunate to have chosen this salon to do my hair and makeup for my wedding. I was the exact opposite of a bridezilla and did absolutely no research on who should do my hair and makeup. I only knew that I wanted a smaller local salon (no chains and no malls) and I really could not beat this location. I had a few photos that I showed my hairstylists on the day of the appointment and described what I liked and did not like about each of the few photos. The stylists did an amazing job. (I think that the name of the stylists is Alexis) The stylists was very friendly and professional. ---I booked my appointment the day before and did not have a wedding party. Even though the salon was not "open", they opened it for me and treated me as well as someone who had a large wedding party. However, since I booked my appointment one day prior, there was a mix up between the person that I talked to and the make-up artist. So, after I had my hair done, the makeup artist still needed some time to get to the salon. As I live in the neighborhood, it really wasn't a big deal and it gave me time to go and check on the flowers. I went back for my make-up and I explained the style that I wanted. The make-up artist did an amazing job. This is easily the the best that my makeup has ever looked. I had many compliments on my hair and makeup in future photos. As I was paying at the end of my appointment, I was given a huge discount due to the makeup artist being late. I did not ask for a discount, so this really shows me that they care about their costumers being happy. Customer service is an art and few places get raving reviews about their customer service from me, but Madame Make-Up deserves it. I returned to Madame Makeup 8 months later to have my hair cut and styled for my baby shower and again, I was very pleased with the service and the hair style. read more
