The Best Apple Crumb Pie on the Planet is at Maddalena's!!! We initially went to Duke Farms and then later did wine tasting in Ringoes. Knowing that my favorite Maddalena's Apple Crumb Pie was originally from here, we stopped in to stock up because Gary's Wine ( North Jersey) was out of the Apple Pie. The Apple Pies here are $23.00. I purchased two. The actual shop is very small. However, you do see shipping trucks in the background. Anyway, we met a lovely woman named Kathy. She was extremely helpful. They actually have two apple pies. The one I like has the special crust. They have a variety of cheesecakes, cheesecake on a stick and cookies! In addition, they have many frozen prepared dinners like Swedish meatballs, Lobster crab ravioli, Chicken Marsala, Manicotti.... Also, Maddalena's has Keto dishes. Maddalena's does catering. We came here on our way back to Philly. This place definitely has the best cheesecakes you can get locally and makes a nice stop before going into Philly. When we went, we placed an order from the menu found online. We waited a few minutes and then the order was brought out to us in the car. We got a cheesecake and an order of the garlic bread. Both were amazing and very tasty. Many of their cheesecakes are the ones you get from restaurants so getting them fresh is really cool. The texture is perfect and the flavor cant be beat. The first time I tried Maddalena's Cheesecake on a stick was about 3 years ago when I was still contemplating whether I loved/hated cheesecake... because there's rarely an in between for me lol. Since I live in northern NJ and travel to spend the day with relatives in Ewing, I called on Saturday to ask if they were open on Father's Day and asked a gentleman if I had to order a apple crumb pie. He assured me that they would have plenty. I arrived around noon a asked the women there for a pie. She pulled a frozen pie from the freezer. I said I called yesterday and was told there were plenty. ( not frozen) I had no other option at this point but to spend the $30+ after being scolded by the woman that I was never told they would have plenty of fresh pies. When it was served, I could see everyone,s faces . When I took a bite,I thought I just ate a spoon full of SUGAR. Worst pie ever . Can you say sugar shock? It went right into the garbage! I've passed by Maddalena's a few times now and decided I had to give into my cheesecake curiosity. The entrance is located right on Route 31, which leads you to a small parking lot. Inside, which was super cold in the winter time, you'll find a check out desk, a few freezers filled with goodies and an open kitchen where you can see them making the cheesecakes. As a first timer I decided to go with a chocolate chip cheesecake, which I'm saving for Christmas, and two cheesecake cookie sandwiches. The pricing here seemed pretty high, but I guess you pay for the high quality. The cheesecake cookies were DELICIOUS and I wish I had bought more. Picked up a strawberry and key lime cheesecake, $18 a piece. I'm a huge key lime anything fan, but this cheesecake was just OK. The cheesecake wasn't tangy enough and could have used more graham cracker crumble. The strawberry cheesecake was also just OK, enough strawberry flavor but just felt like it was missing something. I literally cannot say enough positive things about Maddalena's. Seriously, they truly exemplify great customer service and amazing quality product. I pass Maddalena's all the time on my way to work so I finally decided to stop in and check it out one day. It's a tiny place with limited parking. The customer service was out of this world. I didn't know what I wanted so the employee that I spoke with spent about 20 minutes explaining and showing me different types of cheesecakes (cannolis, cheesecake on a stick, cakes, etc), toppings, pricing, etc. He even took the time to write it all down for me. He wrote down the phone number and said to call to place my order a couple days in advance. What surprised me the most is that he even gave me his cell phone number in case I called too late and couldn't reach anyone on the normal phone number. How nice! Since my first visit, I've gotten cheesecakes from Maddalena's a couple times. They are simply the best. I've never hard a cheesecake this good. Maddalena's not only has the best cheesecake and Apple crumb pie around but I love them even more now that they've started offering both sweet and savory low carb/keto options. We've tried almost all of their keto cheesecakes because she makes them in individual sizes too. That allowed us to try all of them without committing to a full size cheesecake. All were so good and made with natural sweeteners! We are looking forward to trying some of their frozen keto entrees to take the load off of cooking everyday in quarantine. They are offering online ordering with curbside pickup during this time which is safe and convenient. Our family and friends have always enjoyed the cheese cakes and we finally went to the store. Upon getting to the front door we noticed the sign describing how we need to shop to ensure everyone is safe during this pandemic. The owner was front and center and was trying to set expectations. We purchased a huge pot pie, some gumbo and meat loaf. Everything we have had so far has been great. I am surprised by the review by Scott K. who seems to be an impatient person who blamed the store for other customers being slow and that he had to wait an entire 8 minutes. I had the pleasure of tasting this cheesecake at the Laurita winery wine tasting and food truck event. The cheesecake sample was amazing so i purchased the cheesecake on a stick. I order mine dipped in chocolate with nuts. I ordered a small which was $5. The medium was $7 and the large was $9 but I'm not sure who eats that much cheesecake on a stick. I most certainly won't. We were very excited to try the cheese cake. We didn't get the chance. Very disappointed and frustrated. We entered the store. It's a very small store. We were asked to wait by the door while the previous customer took her sweet time and then stood in front of us to tell us all about the Shepard's pie..... while she was checking out. Further preventing us from even looking at what's available. It was a good 8 minute wait which seemed like an hour. We honored the rules on the door and waited for this woman to move so we could look. After she moved we starting looking, mind you we got maybe a minute before another woman outside decided she was coming in, disregarding the shops rules, literally stepping in front of us pushing us out of her way while she shopped. We waited for the owner, who was still waiting on the original old lady, to say something. Nope as soon as the old lady left, the new pushy woman walked up to the counter and the owner decided to help her. At this point I'm not waiting in line to hand you my money if you can't be bothered to tell this woman to wait.... just like she told us when we walked in. Very poor customer service. Janet and the gang were AWESOME! I had them ship cheesecakes and apple crumb pie to all our friends in honor of my son's engagement as their celebration was canceled due to COVID-19. They went out of their way to make sure that each one of our friends received their cakes in great shape. They shipped a 2nd batch to 3 of our friends because the 1st delivery was made late. Not only can you purchase an entire cake at most Shop-Rites in Hunterdon County, you can now buy it by the slice, frozen on a stick. If there is a weekend event (carnival, food fair, etc.) and you see food trucks look for the Maddalena trailor! My husband has lived in the area and loved Maddalena's cheesecakes for over 10 years. We decided to hire them to cater our garden wedding on the fourth of July. They were the best caterers we could have hoped for! Firstly, they were very, very responsive during the planning stage (and we put the wedding together in about two months, so we needed that!). The staff was friendly and cheerful, even though they were working on a holiday. And they were so flexible! We had changing weather (the remnants of Hurricane Arthur as it worked its way up the coast), so all of us were setting up in rain and mud. And with a chilly evening and a shorter-than-expected ceremony, they managed to get all of the food ready earlier than planned. The food was excellent! Very delicious, exactly the right balance of classy and casual. Plus, they coordinated our rental of tables, a large tent, linens, etc. By all means, hit up their farm stand for tasty cheesecake, you can't go wrong (I think the key lime was the biggest hit). But if you're wondering how well they cater, our experience should convince you they deserve every one of the five stars!! read more
