Such an amazing dining experience. We had family visiting out of town and we've wanted to try Prairie for a while . Recently we had a not so great experience at a chain steak house and this more than made up for it . Worth the drive from Slc for sure . Bobbi was our server and she is the best we've had . Kept up with fresh bread and a carafe of ice tea. She was super personable and fun . The bread to start off was very fresh , soft and with the butter- chefs kiss. 3 of us got Salads and I chose the French onion soup . The broth was delicious and even though it was packed with flavor -surprisingly light. Salads were hearty and veggie forward . 3 of us got steak plates but have to mention how huge the county fried steak was -with an option of country gravy or brown gravy . That definitely will keep you full . The steaks were juicy-cooked, to perfection. My snow crab kept me occupied for most of my meal but I rarely get the option to add crab to a meal so why not. It was absolutely fantastic with the butter . We all left with doggy bags . I also had made a reservation a week before we knew we were going to visit as from photos I was not able to tell how big it was. It actually is quite huge . There are covered wagons that seat up to 10 , a private banquet area and table tops available. The decor is fun and you can actually walk around to see more of it . Since we had a reservation we didn't have to wait but there is a bar in the front incase you wish to grab a quick drink while waiting for your table . If you're a steak lover and have an appetite, definitely add Prairie Schooner to your list . I can definitely see it being a popular spot for Mothers /Fathers day and celebrations . Prairie Schooner is just an amazing place to eat on so many levels. My wife and I first ate here when we first met 39 years ago. We currently live in Amsterdam NY and I was thinking of doing something special for my wife's 60th birthday. I thought of this place and looked it up and called to make sure they were still open. I was excited to find out they were and I made reservations, booked plane tickets to Ogden Utah and enjoyed a couple of great date nights with my wife. The food is very good, the schooner sampler is a great appetizer with a nice variety of food. We ended up trying the prime rib, fish and chips and the Galveston combo on our two nights there. All of the food was very good, the staff was great and the ambiance was simply amazing. We love the west and the history and romance of it and so the place was perfect on so many levels. I would highly recommend this place but if western ambiance is not your thing the atmosphere will be lost on you. Had a much better experience this time around. My steak was still burned to a crisp, lol (even my friend questioned why a medium-rare steak was so over overly charred), but the salmon and sides were absolutely delightful! Our waiter even joked about the fact that their salmon tastes better than their steaks, which is ironic, considering they're a steakhouse! I have eaten here dozens of times over the years. My husband and I even had our first official date here over 35 years ago. I would describe this as a higher end steak house with unique atmosphere that includes vignettes of miners, taxidermy animals, and old west scenery throughout the restaurant. I would not typically eat here unless it was for a special occasion due to the spendy pricing on the menu items. In the past, I've tried their steak and seafood options and haven't been disappointed. They serve complimentary cowboy bread and butter at the start of the meal. The staff was very friendly and efficient. We were some of the first customers of the day on a Saturday so we got acknowledged quickly. I was with family from out of town, and I wasn't overly hungry so I just ordered a salad with a side of soup. My family ordered a variety of appetizers along with steak and ribs. The waitress checked back on us regularly and kept our drinks full. My order included the wedge salad with blue cheese dressing and a side of butternut squash soup. The wedge salad was fresh and the dressing was very flavorful. I like a good Roquefort style blue cheese and the dressing reminded me of that. The disappointment was the butternut squash soup. It tasted very watery with little to no seasoning and no real flavor of any kind. I didn't end up finishing it due to the taste. They offered several soup options like vegetable beef or French onion, and I wish I'd chosen differently. The value for the premium price just didn't seem to be there. The least expensive steak on the menu (not including the chopped steak) was $27.99. I don't think I will be coming back anytime soon. read more

Damn, wish we had a place lie this down here in the SLC area...like we did 3+ years ago when the Wagonmaster Steakhouse was open here in Murray (going back to ~1990?) Alas, I think COVID took out the Wagonmaster in September of 2022...but great to see The Prairie Schooner open and doing well there in Ogden. So, yes...we finally made it up to the Prairie Schooner in early October and met family there for a congratulatory dinner/celebration. The place's interior looked great (and was properly decorated for Halloween), and we were quickly seated in one of the "schooners" on the left side as you come in. Bailey waited on us and did a great job taking care of the four of us. We enjoyed a few adult beverages, steaks, and some sauteed mushrooms as well. All in all some delicious food, served hot, coupled with prompt service...made for a very relaxing evening for the four of us. Four Stars for great food and excellent service...and very cool atmosphere that was fun as always...and brought back great memories of The Wagonmaster. Keep up the great work! read more

Really wonderful date night here! The steaks were cooked really well, and the atmosphere inside was unforgettable. We loved the theming! Definitely on the pricier side but you are paying for the experience as well! My boyfriend ordered a steak and they brought out the wrong one. We let them know and they said they ran out so they made this one instead. Unfortunately the steak he received was more expensive than the one he had ordered, but that's okay. Absolutely everything could improve. I had a daughter and husband fly in from Louisiana for a wedding. All the family (13 adults) decided to go to the Prairie Schooner. It has been 20+ years since my husband and I have been there. Since we had a large group we could not fit in one of the booths, which was fine and understandable. The waitress took our orders. When the food came I could not understand why my salmon was drenching in oil. No grill marks, almost looked uncooked. I took one bite. The potato with butter & sour cream tasted as if the sour cream was sour. My husband and three others in the group had chicken fried steaks. Overdone. My daughter in law had ordered a medium rare steak. Sent back because it was cooked to well done. Second steak came and not much better. My son had halibut. Dry dry dry. Another daughter in law had shrimp. She could not eat it. Rubbery and bad. Well we brought most of the food home then tossed in the garbage. The waitress was no where to be found because she knew with a larger group there were tips added automatically. We were out of water and drinks needed filling. When I read the reviews, I went into my reservation thinking that the food would be just ok while the ambience would be super fun. I was wrong-the food was great too! At the Prairie Schooner, you get to eat your dinner inside a covered wagon-with the luxury of bench seats. So it's very comfortable, which I was worried about. No sitting on the floor here, just FYI. Our entire experience was fantastic-service was attentive and kind, the food was tasty and the ambience was unique. My wife and I wanted a fun place to have dinner for our anniversary. We chose prarie schooner and we were not disappointed with the fun atmosphere and the welcoming staff. The staff were very accommodating and were attentive for whenever we needed anything throughout the meal. The food on the otherhand was a big let down. We got broccoli cheddar soup and the beef and vegetable soup and both were incredibly salty. Then we got salmon and top sirloin and both had very little flavor. The salmon has to be dunked in the tartar sauce to have any flavor. And I ended up sinking my steak in the leftover soup to give it more flavor. I will give credit to the chef that at least the doneness was correct. The salmon was very tender and the steak was cooked to how it was ordered. My recommendation would be to include some maldon as salt or fleur de sel on the side to bring out more flavor from the steaks or better yet a compound butter. The salmon just had zero seasoning so anything would have helped that. If someone wants to have a fun environment and great service I'd recommend Prarie Schooner as a one time visit. But if someone wants to come here for great tasting food I would not recommend eating here. read more

I ordered a rib eye steak, which was listed on the menu as the most flavorful steak the restaurant offers. I ordered my steak medium rare. The server brought out a thin steak with no pink center and enough salt to render it almost inedible. Another person at our table ordered chicken fried steak, and complained it was overly salted. It was an interesting experience. My girlfriend and I came here on a whim because Timbermine had a 75-minute wait. Right off the bat, it seemed very disorganized and a total fustercluck. Staff was discombobulated as far as seating arrangements and who goes first. When we got seated, our server came up and asked if we wanted appetizers and drinks before we could even open the menu up or look at the drinks. We got our drinks, I got myself the winter special old fashion and my girlfriend got a Moscow. Unfortunately, my drink looked pretty pinner, as it was served in such a small glass and looked half full. It definitely wasn't worth the $9 or $10 they're charging. The Moscow was super sweet, which is odd. Most of the Moscows I've had were more sharp tasting. Never had a sweet Moscow mule. All in all, both cocktails were a disappointment and not worth the money. The food was okay. We both got ourselves French onion soup, which, unfortunately, was all that was left, but it didn't look or taste fresh. It looked like a pre-made French onion soup you find in the freezer at costco. The cheese glob looked like an egg. No real flavor to it, not very appealing. Au Gratin potatoes looked like they were from a box or had been sitting for a while, didn't have that fresh, and just made taste. Was also just warm enough. Same thing with the mashed potatoes and gravy. Our prime rib steaks weren't bad, but once again, they didn't come out hot. They came out just warm enough. I didn't get that aroma of a freshly cooked steak. It wasn't bad, but there was no real flavor to it, which was disappointing. Our server had very low energy and didn't seem very friendly or inviting. He came off as someone who had no real interest in being there and wasn't very attentive. He was just there to take an order and take the money. Staff, in general, seemed scatterbrained and uninterested. Some of the bussers were talking on the phone through the airpods, which wasn't a good look. It didn't feel like anyone was interested in being at work, and the staff wasn't engaging. The covered wagon seemed like a neat concept, but in actuality, it made us feel pretty claustrophobic. The restaurant was pretty dark,so we couldn't fully see any of the animals or decor. Overall, our experience wasn't worth the $100 tab. We didn't feel welcomed, the drinks were way too sweet and underpoured, and the food was just warm enough to serve. A manager came over and apologized and said they were now working on it. 20 more minutes still no food. I walk up to talk to a manager and talked to a different manager. Ok! When I think steakhouse I am thinking open flame grilled steak, flavors butter, basil, garlic, not a steak seared and crusty on the outside and made on a griddle with no flavor. I was looking for A1 steak sauce it was just bland and I have never used A1 as I think it's an insult to the chefs. I have never had to add salt and pepper to a steak. 3 bites in I was chewing on bristle. The salad was cold which was good, clam chowder was watered down and never seen carrots in chowder. No oyster crackers but saltine crackers for the chowder. Graffiti in the bathroom and everybody was using a cell phone light to read the menu because it's so dark. We have gone to this place a few times and have enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Last night we had an exception. The mushroom appetizer was great but arrived with our entrees. Three of the adults had steaks and they were very good. My grandson had the kids steak and it was way to tough for a child. Plus the plates were very hot. I had decided to try the prime rib (med rare). It was brought to the table very rare and very fatty. Of the whole steak I had maybe 3 bites I could eat. I orderd au gratin potatoes with it (which is usually one of my favorites- but they were cold) I did not complain at the time because our grand children were with us and did not want to set a bad example. A good thing was I knew i would not eat all my food so I ordered my soup to go and they took time to wrap it correctly - I have not tried it yet- looking forward to the french onion soup. My sister ordered steak and shrimp. I don't know how they managed to mess up top sirloin. The steak was bland and cooked unevenly. This was a fun place for a 1 time visit but not the kind of place you go back to. The wagon tables were cute and so were all the animals and decorations. The food was ok, my mother in law compared it to Golden Coral but I've never been to one of those so I can't confirm. The food would be ok if it was priced appropriately for what it is but it was on the pricier side but low quality. The meat was tough, the veggie side was thin sliced carrots and 2 out of 3 people in my party don't like carrots. I had the au gratin potatoes and they were delicious! The salad was ok, it had peas and beets so my husband was less than pleased with his but I liked it. The service was decent, not overly friendly but quick with no issues. I'm glad I tried it and got to see the funny little theme but now that I've checked the box there's no reason to go back. We had reservations and we were early. They seated us right away. The covered wagon tables are so cute and private I can forgive a lot of the food. I have dined here before and I have learned to order the less pricey things on the menu. The salad had peas on it. The clam chowder is good; i suspect comes from dried soup mix. The bread was very plain and boring. The huckleberry bottled soda was great. The sodas we ordered were very good. The fish and chips had the heaviest breading I have ever seen on anything. Once the breading was chipped off though it was good. The rest of our party had the burgers which were "ok" maybe a bit dry, and the chicken fried steak which was proclaimed "yummy".
