I'm not sure I have the words to express my unending gratitude to Alan and his team here at Madera Villa. I found myself at the age of 33 with two young kids as the sole caregiver to my 82 year old father who suffered from Parkinson's disease and rapidly escalating dementia. Completely in over my head and utterly overwhelmed, I found Madera through a referral and from that moment on I was able to have peace of mind and a life again. Alan would send me updates and texts regularly, and I was able to reach him anytime I missed my dad and just wanted to check in and get a picture or get a report on how he was doing. Alan spearheaded my dad's treatment and quarterbacked all his doctor's visits, medication, clothing, grooming, and more. He took complete responsibility for his care - I don't think there's anyone in the world who would have taken better care of him. Sadly, my father passed away about six weeks ago, but Alan was there every step of the way advising me on how to proceed and prepare. It was still one of the hardest things I've ever had to go through, but having Alan's expertise and support throughout made things bearable. Thank you, thank you to Alan and his team. I am forever grateful to all of you.

Yes, it's a big corporation but the service levels are individual. I want to particularly call out the Reminiscence neighborhood/Memory Care and the team that works there. The residents are cared for but still treated as individuals who have capacity. It is a cheerful and sunny environment and the staff is supportive of families as well as residents . The Activities coordinator and the wellness team and the team in Reminiscence really go out of their way to support the residents and their families as well. It is easy to be overwhelmed with caregiving and it has been a relief to feel confident that my loved one is well looked after.

Management tells family members what they want to hear. Nursing is sub par and sometimes dangerous. Memory unit is very different from the other unit (Assisted living). Costs can easily escalate to over 12k/month for memory care. It is a corporation so beware -care cannot always be tailored to individual needs. Since staff has limited time - any nursing or therapy needs to come from outside sources. Staff only has time to Dress and then park residents at a table for a meal. Extra curricular activities are advertised yet never happen.

My MIL came in a wheelchair and within a month was back to walking with a walker then cane! She perked up being around other seniors and even made a new best friend. The rooms are spacious, and the backyard has a little walking path with flowering plants and fruit trees. Residents and the house and yard are well cared for, and the staff cooks meals from scratch. The staff is professional, kind, and patient. I am thankful there was an opening when my MIL needed it.

From the compassionate and attentive staff to the warm and welcoming environment, this facility truly felt like home for him. The caregivers went above and beyond to ensure his comfort, well-being, and dignity. They treated him like family, always engaging with him and making sure his needs were met. The medical team was knowledgeable and proactive, providing excellent communication and peace of mind. I want to especially mention Yazmin, Rajinder, Ed, Brisa and Karen. But all staff were great. I had several interactions with the cleaning and kitchen teams. They were highly professional and supportive. They were great at letting me know what was going on with my dad and making sure he was taken by ambulance to the hospital when necessary. They also provided a lot of valuable advice to me on his care/doctors including recommending a hospice provider when that time came. The driver, Ed, even visited my dad at the hospital several times while he was there. The facility itself is beautifully maintained, clean, and inviting. Each room has a private bathroom and patio. The meals were nutritious and delicious, and there were always engaging activities to keep residents active and social. The staff does their best to get residents to participate. It was comforting to know that my dad was in such good hands, surrounded by people who genuinely cared for him. I am forever grateful for the kindness and dedication of everyone at Sunnyside Gardens. If you are looking for a place where your loved one will receive the best possible care, this is it. I wholeheartedly recommend them without hesitation!

It is a larger facility with two stories and the pricing is tiered based on the occupants needs and is inline with prices for similar facilities in the Bay Area. Residents have private rooms with bathrooms and a small kitchenette. Overall it is a nice facility. However it felt more like a hotel, residents had their doors shut and which is great for seniors who are independent. It did not seem like a place where my grandmother who was going to require hospice level care would get the personalized care we wanted for her. I also felt like the tour was very sales pitch oriented. For us while it was a lovely facility it wasn't the right fit.

The staff who know their residents, take the time to connect, and genuinely care in a way that's not forced. You feel it in the small, everyday moments. They were knowledgeable and responsive, and spent ample time with us to help us understand the facility and what we could expect. They also helped us navigate the move. The facility itself is beautiful. The apartments are good-enough sized, with high ceilings that create a real sense of openness, and the dining and common living areas are comfortable and genuinely homey. While the building is very nice, it's really the staff who make this place feel like home. The chef will customize meals to meet individual needs - he's adding my mother's favorite (and unique) sandwich to the menu, simply because I requested it one day. That is service. One of them is from a disgruntled interviewee, and the other is someone who offers zero information about why they disliked the place after a tour. I assure everyone reading this that I'm a REAL person who has a REAL relative living at Sunrise of Cupertino! It is a huge relief to know my mom, who is 95 and has dementia, is physically safe and so well cared for by so many wonderful people at Sunrise of Cupertino. Prior to this, she was in an independent facility and had completely outgrown the level of care they could provide to her. I chose Sunrise because the facility is sparkling clean, warm, welcoming, and the memory care areas look identical to assisted living. They are not "institutional" at all, a terrible thing I remember about my grandmother's care facility back in the mid 1980s. My mom has her own private apartment that is very spacious, modern, and full of natural light. She seems to like the food, and they've been particularly careful to ensure she isn't given any dairy (mom is lactose intolerant). She is constantly out of her room and kept busy with daily activities. Best of all, the medical staff communicative and responsive. Yes, it's expensive, and while I am thankful my mom has the money, I don't think it's any more or less expensive than any other private care facility in the area. Plus, the entire general neighborhood around the facility is super nice, easy to navigate, with plenty of street and garage parking.
