My elderly parents have just made the transition from the home they lived in since 1973 to Sunny View. As you can imagine it was a complex choice, with many emotions involved. Thank you so much Judy Jackson! You can't know how pleased AND impressed I am that you were able to make this happen in such a time crunch!!! You and your staff have made them feel so welcome and, in fact, so relieved that they are now getting so much support and social interaction that they had become hungry for. Five stars for you! If you're planning a trip to the Packing House, make your way across the street to Tacos El Gringo. We sampled many of the menu items and each one was satisfying. Their potato tacos are incredible! Honestly I was super sceptical about this place since it replaced the bbq spot that was actually pretty bomb but it did but it did not disappoint! We just wanted to try it so I ordered a few tacos. There's regular tacos which include Carnitas, asada, mushroom and chicken even which I thought was super interesting. There's premium options such as pork belly and they ask if you want melted cheese with it but I just wanted to try the tacos by itself to taste the quality of it. I ordered 4 carnitas and 1 carne asada. It was bomb!!!!! My favorite was the carnitas - super juicy and soft and the flavour is amazing especially with their corn tortilla. The carne Asada was also good - a little bit more saltier but still really good. Their sauces are super good - especially their guacamole crema sauce!!! It goes so well with the tacos! It does take a little longer for the tacos because there's only a few people working at a time but the wait is worth it. It's also in a cute spot with a brewery next door so it's like a one stop shop. I hope this place is here to stay!! Yum! read more

DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE IN THIS FACILITY. The Doctors are rarely seen and it's impossible to speak to them in person or on the phone because they are just not available. All questions and requests are routed through the nurses. My biggest complaint was that I requested a UTI test for my mother because I noticed a change in her behavior. Our family was told that the test was done and that she was fine. Two months later my mother is taken to the hospital because she is in Septic Shock. Why? Because, per Sunny View's medical records department, she was never tested and treated for a UTI. The nurse lied to us. This can be life threatening for an elderly person. At that point I had to call and open up an investigation. My mother was out of the facility at this point. My mother's belongings were stolen by a floormate yet for 6 months no one found them after asking several times for the staff to look. The place is adequate for ambulatory healthy adults, but not if you're aging and in need of more assistance. More than once I cleaned feces off of the wall by her bed. They never used wipes nor barrier cream. They didn't have in room trash cans for the disposal of diapers and instead would throw them on the floor and then into a trash can down the hall. This is a very, very unsanitary facility. I am not sure how the owner Nelson Rodrigues is running his business but he does not seem to truly care for the elderly. After my mothers stay at the hospital she went to Atria Willow Glen. It was an eye opening experience. It didn't smell like urine nor feces. The rooms were clean. The food was nutrition-appropriate and vibrant. They have a doctor on staff. When you call and ask a question, you get an answer. And they call you back. The outside facade of Sunny View is very misleading. It is in a seemingly nice neighborhood. It's very quiet. It seems sweet and safe. It is neither. I hope this will deter everyone from using this facility. There are other options. You have a right to demand better than this hell hole. read more

there are no words that can encompass the amount of appreciation I have for the amazing staff at Sunny View. They have taken such amazing care of my grandmother as she reached her 100th year during a global pandemic. Months would go by where I wasn't able to see her and they did such a good job keeping her safe, calm, happy and engaged while the rest of the world seemed to be falling apart. It makes me emotional just thinking about the immense gratitude I have in my heart for the superhero staff that cares so deeply about their residents at Sunny View. Recently I placed a dear friend for whom I am on her Advanced Directive into Sunny View after researching a few other retirement communities. It is welcoming, efficient, and the care quality is excellent. She is in Assisted Living and paying for extra services such as medication monitoring, escorts as needed, daily light housekeeping and more. The monthly price is still reasonable for all that she is receiving, including healthy well prepared meals which she can have delivered to her room or picked up as a "to go" meal if she cannot go to the dining room for any reason. The property is well maintained with a good Fitness Center, chapel, Rose Garden where special meals and events are held and they have many activities for the residents. I highly recommend Sunny View, which also has independent living, convalescent and memory care. read more

My parents have lived in this retirement community since 2011 and have loved their stay. No wonder there's a long waiting list. The staff here is excellent - supportive, conscientious and responsive. The current director Bella and her team including Agnes and Betty have gone out of their way in looking after my parents. At least in their Sunny View West wing they have either studio or one bedroom apartments. These are well maintained. There are two apartment inspections a year to ensure that stay arrangements and upkeep is up to par. Lunch is part of the deal and is good and inexpensive, with a varied menu with several choices. They have many activities including exercise classes for seniors, entertainment, coaching sessions (e.g., in use of computers and electronics), birthday and life event celebrations so there's no shortage of interesting things for residents to do. read more

Don't be impressed by the slick website or all the "awards" in the lobby that proclaim the facility's recognition status - they're from the corporation that owns Sunny View. This place has seen better days, which I can attest to personally, as my grandparents lived here 25 years ago. My parents, sibs and I spent A LOT of time here with them. It was a clean, well run, faith-based community then. When my grandparents passed, my parents even donated to build the new wing - their name is still on the donor wall. Naturally, my parents had a special connection to Sunny View, so when the time came for them choose a continuing-care retirement community (CCRC) themselves, they chose Sunny View. Unfortunately, we all learned the hard way that things have changed here and the changes, including ill trained staff, health & safety code violations, and unresponsive and patronizing management, have not been good for the community nor its residents. My 88 year old parents were illegally evicted on trumped up pretense just 90 days after they moved in. You can find the details of the illegal eviction and other facilities violations that Sunny View was cited on 8/16/16 for (illegal eviction, non working fire sprinklers, blocked hallways/exits) by the CA Department of Health & Social Services on their website. read more

My grandmother stays here and it seems like they take pretty good care of her. The staff is very helpful and they even hold dinner parties for the residents. I frequently come here to check up on my grandma and most recently came to take her to a pediatrist visiting the community. Everything is within very close walking distance too. A big plus is the fact that they are very accommodating towards Chinese residents as many of the staff are bilingual. All in all I think this place was a pretty good choice for her since there are plenty of others to socialize with at the community-sponsored functions. My only concern is that the place is fairly open so that the residents could wander off on their own if they so choose. Then again, why would they when they pretty much have everything already there. If your family is looking for a community in the area and especially if your family speaks a Chinese dialect, check this place out. read more

My key issue with Sunny View was the their suspect business practices in misleading us their failure in providing a room for my father. Over a period of 48 hours, per their request, we faxed extensive admissions documents to Sunny View in readying to arrive; however, Sunny View expressed a need to conference with me prior to my father's transfer--then continued to fail to show up for a phone calls for two days. At that point, I finally reached Sunny View, only to have their admissions director, Tim Bowman, say he had given the planned-for bed to another-- so therefore speaking to the staff about further questions was moot. I suggested an apology was in order, because I had relied on their good faith efforts, to which Tim responded that he was sure I was looking at competitors, and so there was nothing to apologize for. My husband and I moved his 91 year old mother to Sunny View 7 months ago from her home in the Valley, and we couldn't be happier with her care. We looked and visited more than 10 other facilities and found Sunny View to be the best. The facility itself is well maintained and very clean, without that musty, disinfectant smell you find in some places. We were impressed with how frequently they update and renovate the facility. In the 7 months my mother-in-law has been there, we've seen several lovely changes to the patio, reading room, the grounds, and other areas. One of the things that has impressed us the most has been the staff. They always keep us informed of her progress and of any issues that might arise. They also are pro-active and make suggestions to help. The nurses, staff and CNA's are amazing! They're all so supportive and treat her like a friend. They truly care about her. We were surprised to see how many of our friends and acquaintances have a parent here, when we would see them in the hall. My mother-in-law has been in both the skilled nursing facility and the assisted living apartments and we have found both to be excellent! We highly recommend Sunny View to anyone looking for great care for a loved one. read more

My mother (97) has lived at Sunny View for over two years and it has been great. We looked at a number of places in the Palo Alto area, but Sunny View was clearly her favorite. The main physical difference between Sunny View and so many other places are the open gardens and courtyards. it allows her to walk around and not feel at all "closed" in. With the facility being mainly one story and spread out, the grounds really give an expansive feeling. But more important than the facilities are the people. They are terrific. Everyone seems to be very open, friendly and caring. They treat everyone, including my mom, on a very personal basis making little comments and taking small actions that seem to make it really feel like a home. This goes from the nursing and care staff, through the administration and extends to the dining, front desk and maintenance staff. We could not have asked for a more embracing work staff. My mom also had a fall that required some hospitalization and then time in the care center for her to recover. While we knew that conceptually this was important, this gave us an opportunity to actually understand the value. It was a very integrated and seamless experience, starting from the discharge at Stanford Hospital. They wanted to know that she was going to a rehab center so they could coordinate instructions. When I said she lived at Sunny View, the discharge people knew about Sunny View and said "got it" and took care of coordinating all the care instructions. The care center then took care of all the activities ranging from coordinating care, arranging for 24 hour watch when she needed it, physical therapy and even getting some clothes from her room. They were great and it made the situation for us really simple and low stress. You never want to use these services if you can avoid, but it's great to have when you need it. Perhaps the best recommendation comes from my daughter (her granddaughter who is very protective of grandma). She says that we need to talk to Sunny View about the "legacy program" when it comes time for us to look for a retirement home! read more

Sunny View Manor is a very special community. It is both a CCRC and a monthly rental community which means it is very flexible and can meet different families' needs. It has studios, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments and some 2 bedroom villas for independent seniors. It also offers assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing. Since it is located on 12 acres, it has lovely grounds, paths and gardens. The families we have shared the community with have been impressed by the buildings and grounds which they are constantly renovating and improving but even more important is the spirit of caring and concern that is evident throughout. The staff and residents are friendly and supportive, and also there is a calm, secure sense one gets when walking around. read more

Caring for Seniors is never an easy task. My parents had been looking at several multi-level care facilities in the area and it was my mother that drew them to Sunny View. While she was very reluctant to move, her comment about Sunny View was that it felt more like a home than an institution. Her initial instinct has proved to be spot on. Unlike some of the other places they visited, they have always been treated as individuals deserving of understanding and compassion. Our family was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the staff responded to the needs of my parents as they made the very difficult transition of moving from their home of 45 years to a two bedroom apartment (villa). All the different areas (marketing, maintenance, housekeeping, food services, nursing staff) went way beyond what was expected to help them settle in and become part of the community. We even had some unexpected challenges that the staff addressed with kindness and much patience. In addition, the staff seem to communicate well with each other. While the grounds are beautiful (mature trees and multiple garden areas) and there are some new features including an aviary in the Assisted Living area, it is the people that make the difference. Not only have the staff been very respectful and kind, but the residents were very welcoming to my folks. I'm very comfortable knowing that my elderly parents are surrounded by loving people. read more

My mother has lived at SunnyView for eleven years, and she has enjoyed every year. The facility and grounds are very attractive and the dining service provides really good, healthy food. Their activities are great and the staff have made every effort to involve mom in them, even as her cognitive impairment has progressed. This facility truly provides wrap around care from independent living to memory care and skilled nursing. The staff at all levels are very committed to providing excellent care. It's been great to see individuals moving from housekeeping to nursing and then to administrative positions. As a caregiver, I feel totally supported by the staff and facility. Also, they involve the community with lectures by retired community college professors, and regular events with local junior and high school students. read more

Thought it time to update my 2015 review! My mother has lived at Sunny View for over a year and a half now. She has loved being part of this community. Recently, due to declining health, we brought in Vitas for hospice coverage. The assisted living staff at Sunny View has coordinated care beautifully, keeping my mother comfortable, clean, and cared for. The staff are beautiful, caring people. They treat mom with respect, gentleness, and go the extra mile to keep her comfortable. A recent "in service" training gave additional tools to the staff's toolbox...which was awesome. My mom loved being the "model" in the training. My sister and I are grateful to have such wonderful extensions to our family. read more

The landscaping is manicured, all the staff members are very welcoming and accommodating. I have a small seniors services business and I have been moving seniors into Sunny View Retirement Community for about five years. Without exception, all of my customers have found SVRC to be the best choice they could have made. Most say they should have made the move ten years sooner. The entire, friendly staff make time for the residents and treat them with respect and care. From the view of a vendor, the staff at Sunny View are very helpful to us and accommodating. When we are involved in the move in process, we sometimes need to put small work orders in for the comfort and convenience of our customer, and when we do it is attended to quickly. The amenities have always been terrific at Sunny View and there have always been a wide variety of activities for everyone to access and enjoy. But in the past year or so there have been some wonderful additions, water features, a bistro, art room and improved communal areas. My 90 year old mother looked at a number of continuous care facilities near my home. After looking at over 10 facilities, she chose Sunnyview and was place on the waiting list for an assisted living apartment. During her wait, she found herself in the hospital and in need of a skilled nursing facility for rehab. Sunnyview accepted her into their skilled nursing facility. As luck would have it, her assisted living apartment became available during her time in rehabilitation. She was then able to transition from skilled nursing at Sunnyview to her assisted living apartment. It was all seamless. Having experienced both the skilled nursing and assisted living components of this facility, I can confidently recommend Sunnyview for anyone seeking care in such a setting. The facility is incredibly clean and well maintained. They frequently update and renovate their facility. The grounds are impeccable and quite relaxing. There is a homelike quality to the facility and in speaking to a number of the other residents, all had only praise for their surroundings and care. The staff is incredible. The nurses that took care of my Mom in the skilled nursing facility were amazing. The constantly kept me informed of her progress and any issues that arose. They were supportive of her in every way. They treated her like a friend and not a problem to be resolved. Their patience and attention to her needs were gratifying. Upon her discharge from skilled nursing she moved into her assisted living apartment in Sunnyview. In all of my conversations with the staff at the facility, I found them to be creative problem solvers that sought to provide the best care in the least restrictive environment possible for my Mom. They truly cared about what was best for her and were willing to be creative in that endeavor. The CNA's, the assisted living staff and the administration have continuously sought to identify what was in her and the family's best interest in a thoughtful, caring way. I highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for care for a loved one. read more

My 99 year old mother has been a resident of Sunny View Retirement community for 13 years. She has lived in the Independent, Assisted Living Sections and just recently has moved to the Care Facility. In each section the attitude of the employees and the administration has been caring, loving, respectful and in all ways, transparent. They make sure all residents in all levels of care are included in all activities, and they are all cared for as if they were members of their family. The owners, Front Porch, are continually upgrading the facility to make it as comfortable, pleasant and modern as possible. I am so happy 13 years ago we were able to move my mom into Sunny View, because now that she needs specialized care, I know she is in a safe, loving environment and I can rest easy. I moved my parents to Independent Living eight months ago. I have been very pleased with the variety of activities, both physical and intellectual. They have an onsite Pastor, who develops personal relationships with the residents and families, including a support group for caregivers. There are a variety of spiritual services available. The Assisted Living staff have all developed relationships with my parents and care for them gently and thoughtfully. They have embraced the silliness that comes with my mom's Alzheimer's instead of being impatient. They respectfully repeat requests to my father with cognitive impairment. They manage the medications on a daily basis, and have treated infections appropriately. They are quick to notify me if something seems to need medical attention or if they notice problems. Even housekeeping keeps an eye on them. The housekeepers are in the units weekly and look for potential problems or items that need attention. When my father declined unexpectily, the staff and administration were all aware and attentive, and provided extra attention until an alternative unit became available. They have everything that seniors need on site, including a hair and nail salon, PT and a gym. They have transportation services during the week in addition to regularly scheduled outings. While my parents are not yet in Memory Care, I have seen how the staff there treats the residents with patience and respect. The food in the dining hall is bountiful and healthy, and there are good choices at each meal. The staff there will make special meals for residents that wish to have specific items even though they are not on the menu, and remember what the residents like to eat and will serve them automatically. The food is good, although somewhat institutional. I am very pleased with my decision to move my parents to SunnyView. I have become close to several residents, and there is a real feeling of family between many of them. read more

My dad lived in Los Altos over 60 years. He had many opportunities to visit friends in retirement communities all over the county. When it came time to make the move himself, he chose Sunny View. He really liked the neighborhood feel, the elegant but casual surroundings, and the friendliness of staff and residents. He enjoyed the excellent food, the gym, and the lovely landscaping as well as his roomy alcove apartment. Our family accompanied him through the intake process and visited him regularly. We often dined with him and got to know many of the residents and employees. This is truly a community. He transitioned from independent living through skilled nursing and hospice. At every step we were assisted and supported by loving, caring, professional staff. My mother has been a resident of Sunny View for over a year. The staff and residents are kind, friendly and respectful. Sadly, some of the administration people are less than sensitive and responsive. I have not been happy with the fact that I have to pro- actively inquire regarding my mothers health. My mother went through a serious health crisis a couple of months ago and we changed her living space within the community. Recently I was told by the marketing department that because of the remodeling being done, my mother needs to vacate by the end of the month and there are no comparable accommodations available. There is a waiting list for the newly remodeled accommodations and the cost is close to double what I am now paying. I was told to "look for a nice board and care home". When management was approached with the idea of my mother sharing an apartment with another woman, the idea was refused, however, couples are permitted to share accommodations. To me this seems not only discriminatory, but also inflexible. My mother, is now forced to change her environment and develop new relationships with new staff, leave her friends behind and start all over again. This is no easy task for a woman in her nineties with memory loss. read more
