What really stood out was how client-centered they were. Every staff member we passed made eye contact, said "hello," and acknowledged each resident by name--as if each person truly mattered. It's rare to find a place where excellent care, kindness, and professionalism all come together so naturally. This community exceeded our expectations in every way, and we left feeling confident, grateful, and comforted knowing that residents here are treated with dignity and heartfelt care.

This review is from Jan. 2023…read more I write it - long overdue - for you to make sure there's been a change in management and underlying grossly negligent systemic conditions threatening patient safety since then. It was an incredibly dangerous stay. CA should shut the place down if those conditions persist. 1. Broken blood pressure machines. My parent needed his B/P checked several times a day, to adjust his medications. No one told me the blood pressure machine was broken. It was a traveling nurse who informed me to bring one in that actually works. 2. Failure to administer oxygen My parent was short of breath and needed oxygen one night and into the next day. He pleaded for oxygen. A traveling nurse told me all they had to do was text the doctor for oxygen tanks in his room - but no one did that. Stanford hospital finally intervened, getting him in-room oxygen tanks. But he never should've suffered like that. 3. Threatened discharges The Terraces threatened to discharge my parent for "refusing" to do PT. He never refused - he wanted to do PT! The PT notes clearly stated it was "too dangerous" for him to do the PT. The PTs had to help us fight the discharge. 4. Dairy given to lactose intolerant They regularly gave him food full of dairy, when he was marked as lactose intolerant. This made him very sick each time, increased his weakness and worsened his underlying health conditions. 5. Warehoused him For 2 weeks, no one informed the family of his medical condition preventing PT. Just left him lying in bed. After 2 weeks, a doctor said he'd adjust his medications. After another week, the doctor offered to increase the medications because he wasn't improving. But he wasn't improving because he'd never received the first dose! In increasing his medication, the doctor never checked whether he actually received the first dose level. Totally dangerous. Again - a traveling nurse was the one who checked. 4 weeks later, he started receiving the medication and could start the PT program. 6. Nurses didn't follow doctor orders Because nurses weren't following the doctor's orders, I taped handwritten signs to the wall over his bed, stating the doctor's orders in large print. My parent had to repeatedly ask the nurses to read my posted signs. In conclusion, if nothing is changed since 1/23, The Terraces should be shut down. It should be reopened ONLY under new management and AFTER it fixes the underlying systemic problems inflicting gross negligence in medical care on its elderly fragile patient population.

We were all either born there or had lived there for a long period, such fun. It's so easy to do things like that. I plan a big party for my birthday, and reserving tables for any occasion is just done online. Imagine, a place where dozens of geriatric grandmas and grandpas are still enjoying life. But it was necessary as he was having trouble with stairs and was at an increasingly high risk of falling. The first few months were predictably difficult. But he quickly made connections with other residents and eventually started thinking of the Avant as home. He was treated so well by the staff. They were unfailingly attentive and thoughtful. They looked after him and cared for him better than we could've possible hoped. When his health took a bad turn or he fell, they were on top of it immediately. They contacted us right away and gave us thoughtful guidance at every step based on their considerable experience. Li Li, Trish, and the entire staff are very professional, knowledgeable and kind. The facilities are clean, modern, and well cared for. From what we heard from dad, the food was consistently great. My family and I highly recommend the Avant without any reservations.

Mom was worried they would have to go to "The Other Side," also know as the memory care unit. Other residents say things to scare them about this arrangement. Dad loved the swimming pool in the apartment living, but once he 'crashed' into another swimmer who yelled at him, he no longer swam. Thus, my mom was ready to move out and live in their own home. Dad passed away a year ago and Mom, who is 93, is happy to live in her home. For me, I live 3 hrs away and always worry. I wish she continued to live at the Avant. She is isolated in her home, doesn't have transportation, but is happy to walk to her downtown. She is of sound mind, so I don't have any say, but that doesn't mean I don't worry. The Avant is a place I would live in the future and now that Mom is on her own, I think she would be more receptive to making friends with the other residents.

The property is well maintained. Redwood Villa is family-owned and run, and that caring atmosphere is prevalent throughout. My dad, who was fairly independent, had several medical emergencies, and staff was extremely accommodating as well as always keeping an eye out for him. We needed some modifications to his apartment, such as a cut-out in the tub so he could step in easily after hip surgery, and it was no problem. Staff was always extremely pleasant; there was never a 'honeymoon' period where it seems great and then diminishes over time...it was always great. We enjoyed the events held during the year such as the Christmas party, New Years party, Mothers Day dinner, etc. It's not a skilled nursing facility, and that was perfect for our needs. Residents do have assistants who come in to help with their various needs, but that's not provided directly through Redwood Villa. Their rates are extremely reasonable, and I can't recommend them highly enough.

They are absolutely excellent, thorough, reliable , the PT and OT and nurse have helped me tremendously. The nursing staff and the CNA's were so very good :they paid attention to medications very well. Not only that it was the right medication, but that it was the right time and the right dosage. I had my first postop appointment during my stay at the Vi and they arranged transportation that was quite helpful!! My two weeks there gave me the best basis for my new knee being unnoticeable and un painful very soon!

The worst rehabilitation facility I have ever experienced…read more The staff seem to work together against you rather than with you, and I rarely receive clear answers when something happens. At times, it feels as though they are trying to hide what is really going on instead of being transparent with the family. This facility has gone seriously downhill, and I feel terrible for anyone who has to depend on it for their recovery. The physical therapy has been inconsistent and, in my opinion, inadequate. My mother walked into this facility and is leaving in a wheelchair, no longer able to walk. That is extremely concerning and heartbreaking for our family. Families should be able to trust that their loved ones are receiving consistent, appropriate care and rehabilitation. Unfortunately, that has not been our experience here.

We are extremely grateful that we chose this rehab center for our mom after she was discharged from…read morethe hospital following a recent fall. Mom stayed for six weeks. When she first arrived, she was unable to walk. With the rehabilitation and care she received, she improved to the point where she could walk smoothly with a walker. We couldn't be happier with her progress. What impressed us most was the people and the leadership. When we first arrived, managers from different departments came to introduce themselves and genuinely tried to accommodate our requests. Josephine even gave us her cell phone number and told us to call anytime if we needed her help. Laura checked Mom's room every morning and promptly addressed anything we brought to her attention. The speed of resolution was truly amazing. The CNAs, especially Timothy, Brandon, and Theresa, were kind, patient, and very attentive to details. I remember one small moment that really stayed with me. One day, I was walking behind Timothy when we passed an elderly gentleman sitting in a wheelchair. His pant legs were unevenly rolled up. Timothy noticed it, stopped, bent down, and carefully fixed the pant legs for him before continuing on. It was such a small gesture, but it showed me how closely he paid attention to the residents and how much he cared about their comfort and dignity. Brandon and Theresa were also wonderful with Mom. They were caring, patient, and attentive to her needs. We always felt that Mom was being treated with kindness and respect. I want to specifically mention all three of them because their daily care made a real difference in Mom's recovery and in our peace of mind. Nurse Maria was always on top of Mom's medications and care, and she always greeted us with a smile. The admission/administrative staff were also wonderful. They worked with us to find the best arrangements to make Mom's stay as comfortable as possible. Administrator Adam was very friendly and approachable. We could see how his leadership and the management team's commitment made a real difference in the way the center was run. The facility is older, but the warmth and caring of the people make it feel very welcoming. When Mom was discharged, we were happy to see her walking again, but we also realized how much we would miss the staff. Thank you to everyone who took such good care of Mom and helped her regain her ability to walk. We truly appreciate Timothy, Brandon, Theresa, Maria, Josephine, Laura, Adam, and the entire team.
