Super easy online returns ! I usually buy their clothing from Nordstrom but we found some amazing Black Friday deals online on their direct website . Items had free shipping and arrived quickly . All individually bagged in a plastic bag and tagged . Small line today at store . Cashier was friendly. She handled return easily and emailed as well as printed return receipt . Was almost $40 overcharged after looking at the receipt. I bought a lot so didn't notice at first, but price on the receipt was $20 more than on the price tag on the actual shirt. They brought wrong size for the shoes than I requested and just vanished so I couldn't ask for replacement. Cashier was very unfriendly and unorganised. This store has clothes that are well made. From the leathers used on their purses, belts and shoes to the flannel material of their vests and shirts, you can tell the quality is durable. Their staff are very accommodating and hard working. I notice nobody stood around unlike other retail stores at UTC. I like the layout of the store and enjoy the seating they provide which is very handy for the men that accompany their girlfriends or wife as this is only a women's store. This store is so clean, well presented and has such great quality clothing that, even some of the style is too formal for me to wear, I think most of the items are awesome and durable. I really like the high quality cotton blouses, fresh and airy, summery and reminiscent of vacations in some Mediterranean locale. What got more my attention, though, were the shoes. The shoes, even if made in China (sorry, I check, I am a shoe snob when it comes with leather sandals and normally demand Spain made first, Italy second, China is not normally in my list). However the quality and design of these sandals are awesome. I like the 70s vibe of many of them with a little bit of high heel but not too much. I suggest you to try any silver colored one, the brown can get too boring. Bags are oversized, beautiful and functional. Not cheap, but I think the prices are fair. About the jewelry, I liked a lot several items, such as bracelets that look like mini sculptures, very affordable (around $25) if you consider the nice design. I never heard of Madewell before, but this is a great store to shop for quality, delicate and non stridently colored clothes. read more

I really like Madewell's collection of t shirts, necklaces, and obviously clothing. I order online for almost all of my pieces because of the sales that are offered more than the store itself. This rating is for the UTC store. It's selection is generous and offer a sale on select items in back area for a fair price. The staff keeps to themselves for the most part, so if you like time to yourself, it's nice to know you won't be overly asked for what it is you're looking for. The employees also can be a bit standoffish tho, which is interesting because they seem to be busy making the store looking nice. All in all, it's a great brand. read more

This is for Madewell in general (sorry store!) love the denim. Especially the high rise & the magic pockets - the washes the fit they're slimming & comfortable. I feel tho that every time I want to buy something it's sold out. I think they do this on purpose! It's annoying and makes me not want to shop Madewell online or in stores. Also so much of their blouses & dresses are 100 percent poly which is so gross. How do you get off charging $98 bucks for a poly blouse?? Make it in rayon or silk or cotton voile anything but the cheapest non breathable fabric known to man. If I want Polyester I'll shop at Target- actually even Target doesn't make everything in polyester! The purses I like- there is a lot I do like but it's expensive sometimes for what you get. This has to be one of my favorite stores now. I love the clothes, the employees are always nice, and this particular location is very clean and big. Let's start off with the clothes. Yes, they're pricey but they're really good quality stuff. Knits are thick, blouses are soft, and the dresses are very well tailored and comfortable. If you find their items expensive then come when there's a big sale. Madewell (& J.Crew) often have an additional 40% off sale items and if you're a student you can still use your 15% student discount on top of that! So you'll get 55% extra on already discounted items. The first time I came here was during a blogger event which was very well organized. Lauren took care of us and was incredibly sweet and cheerful. The bloggers loved how ecstatic and helpful she was. Charlene is also a very nice and helpful employee. Very attentive staff here. As for the location, it is huge! It is so comfortable to browse this store because it is so big. It also has a really nice seating area for the boys to wait while the ladies do their thang. If you're a girl looking to get great deals on quirky, classic, or modern pieces then this is the place to come! Great clothes, shoes to die for, and dainty jewelry. Love the simplistic and clean style of Madewell, despite how pricey some of the pieces can get. This particular location is well-organized and I managed to find a skirt on sale at a really awesome price! The staff is rather aloof and unhelpful, as others described. I wish they would bring back some of their more unique jewelry pieces, as I couldn't find this ring I had been eyeing online just a few weeks ago and the current jewelry display was pretty disappointing. read more

I always stop by this location when I'm at UTC. I definitely check out the sale section and there have been a couple times where I've bought clothing items at full price. The smaller items (wallets, socks, scarves, bags) are pretty cute, but all the jewelry looks the same to me now. I think the staff is pretty friendly where it matters the most. Between this location and Fashion Valley, sometimes I'm not greeted or sometimes I just let myself into an empty changing room on my own. It doesn't really bother me because I've never had a truly negative experience that I can remember. Staff have often put my items in fitting room while I browsed, helped with hemming, looked for different sizes, pulled a scarf off a display for me, etc. I had a great customer service experience with Anna at Madewell UTC when she prepared my room and asked if I had any questions. I told her what color of jeans I was interested in and how I felt overwhelmed by the different options that met my one requirement. She brought me some popular options and described the fabric and washes. We were around the same height so it was great to get her feedback on the fit of some of the high waist options and how to style them. Thanks to Anna, I finally branched away from Madewell's regular skinny jeans and bought my first pair of 9" high risers. Love them! read more

I did not get greeted from anyone in here and was definitely not busy -- I do in fact love their clothes and accessories... similar to Urban Outfitters. Definitely not worth the price you pay. Walking in here felt so weird. The costumer service is horrible. If you're not white or at least look like it the this mall workers will look you up and down and ignore you. Cute clothes selection but it's weird to look around when the workers are watching every move like you're going to steal. I don't know why they act like that at the end of the day it's just a retail. They literally act like they own the store. Cute clothes but don't expect a welcoming experience if your someone of color! Experience was much better at the Fashion Valley location. This review is to update from my last one. Madewell had reached out to me after my first review. I appreciated their concern and they said that the manager Courtney would contact me. She apologized for my poor experience and invited me to come in for a styling appointment with her. She sent me a generous giftcard for my next visit as well! Honestly did not expect anything out of this trouble but I was very grateful for the gesture. She asked me for my size, what I am specifically looking for, and what vision I have in my head about an outfit. I told her I was looking for some dresses, tops, and shorts (which were my original wishlist). She really took care of me and even gave me items I'd never consider wearing or would just pass by to which in the end I liked them a lot. I love that even though I had an appointment with Courtney, she was still able to keep the store running as a manager by helping other customers and not just be at the back lines watching or idling around. She keeps her store running and leads by example. Anyway, in the end, I got a nice button up top and...my dream denim shorts! High waisted to be exact! I really appreciated the care Courtney had put to be in touch with me to make my re-experience worth while and was welcoming. A styling appointment really does make you feel really taken cared of! I hope her team takes on by her example! My closet is starting to fill up with Madewell clothes anyway and I don't think that and my visits in store will stop. read more

I live in downtown San Diego and between this location and the Fashion Valley store, this one is by far my favorite because of how friendly the amazing staff are. I love that they give you a warm welcome as you enter and aren't shy to ask if you need any help. Courtney did a great job at suggesting some cute tops she thought would look good on me and also had me try on a pair of their high risers. I totally didn't think I would like them but ended up LOVING the high riser jeans so much I purchased them and wear them all the time now. They're my fave! read more

This place is designed so cool. There clothing is a bit expensive, but they have amazing sales. The clothing the put on sale is really good stuff and give deep discounts. As a devoted Madewell customer, I was surprised to be snubbed at this particular store. Customer service goes a long way, and the store was not busy. However, every associate who passed me seemed to size me up without the slightest bit of friendliness. No "Hello", just a cold glance. I walked in to possibly find a new sweater, denim or leave with another Transport tote, but unfortunately, I was not compelled to buy anything. These guys are awesome. Not only is their selection incredibly sleek and clean, their customer service is top notch.
