Went to Madi's Mexicali Stop for lunch today. I love the character of the restaurant, great small town vibes with top notch food. As soon as I walked in the place was nice and clean with a welcoming vibe. I was met to place my order quickly and politely. I ordered a bean cheese and rice burrito to go and got my food pretty quickly considering the quality. Tastes like everything is homemade or high end restaurant quality. The SALSA is killer! Highly recommend the salsa. Go check Madi's out, it would be awesome to see this place stick around Colfax! read more

A group of 4 of us came in for a late lunch. The selection in the area for options is sad so Madi's was consensus. Right when you walk in, felt like a 100 degree sauna. No airflow at all. So eating inside was a no go. The outside wasn't much better with all the flies. There is a huge sign outside that says "authentic" you know when a restaurant has to say that, something is off. As far as the food, it was Okk. I got the carnitas plate and it was kind of dry. The rice was mushy. My friends seemed to like their food though. For &80 it was decently priced at about $15-17 a dish. But service and flavor were lacking. The service could definitely be nicer and friendlier. We didn't get much of a thank you until we gave cash tip. Seems like it's more of a to go spot. Close to freeway at least read more

Very quaint spot. My teen and I stopped in for a bite at lunch time. Very nice staff and quick service. I love the authenticity of this joint. I ordered shrimp ceviche bowl and my kid got a tostada. Over all very thing was good. There is not much seating inside but the outside has a few tables and chairs you can sit at. The restaurant has the same name as my teen so it was a nice little joke that I didn't know she had a restaurant I will definitely come back on my next travels to and from California. read more

So we stopped here on the way back from Reno and were excited to get mexican food. We went in the lady taking our order was super uninterested like we were an inconvenience to her. She didn't care about what we wanted. We asked for fountain soda because they were out of cans so she got irritated and filled the cup with ice and then we asked her for limes again she looked irritated and annoyed. We also asked her what time they close she said in 10 minutes it was 7:30 PM at the time and they close at 8 PM.... The food was not bad except the rice it felt like old rice and tasted terrible. The prices were a little high for 3 plates and one drink we paid $56-58 which is a little insane. Anyways wouldn't recommend service is terrible. read more

The fish taco is good but dry(maybe I should have ordered fresh flour tortilla instead of the crispy one, the onions are big and raw, wish they would grilled it a bit, it also could use more cilantro. I think the food is pretty good- I like the taco salad, probably one of the best I've had but my husband has been disappointed every single time we go there. Let's just say he won't be going back. The place is small and we always get our stuff to go because of the small space. The salsa is good and the woman working the register has always been nice. Horrible customer service to start. Music playing too loudly for the disinterested cashier to hear, not that his responses were pleasant or appropriate when he did utter them. Soda machine not working, no explanation or apologies for the inconvenience. This has proved a challenging location for many restaurants and this will likely be another casualty if this experience is any indication. Parking is also horrible. I almost never write a yelp review, but I stopped at Madi's today on the way up to Tahoe and felt compelled to. First, they were the nicest people ever to let us bring our dog in from the rain while we ordered. Second, the service was quick and efficient, great for a quick stop if you can't eat in. But the most important part was the food. The Birria tacos I had today were life changing!!!! My kids loved their tacos and burritos too, and insisted we stop on the way home. HIGHLY recommend Madi's. One of the best hole in the wall Mexican foods I've ever had. Try the Birria, it will change your life!!!! We finally got around to trying Madi's and ordered online for pick up. very convenient and the food was ready when we arrived. my wife got the chicken burrito which she really liked and would order again. I got the chicken mole and it was good but it was WAY too spicy. I'm mean I was sweating. I've had lots of mole both in the US and in Mexico and have never had any this hot before. I was driving from Reno to my home in Santa Barbara County and I had seen this place from the freeway on the way up. It looked cute and colorful, so I stopped to get a burrito for lunch. It was pretty hot outside so I got my burrito to go as I had my dog, Maxine, with me. The lady at the counter was very polite and attentive. I ordered the al pastor burrito. It comes with chips and salsa which is nice, The salsa bar had five or six very nice looking choices. The verdict: amazing burrito. Flavorful, well prepared and held together. I could eat it in the car and not make a huge mess. The al pastor was perfect. I ate half at the parking lot and the second half at some remote trumpian rest stop between Kettleman City and Paso Robles. And the chips were great too. Maxine even got a few. The moment you pull up to this joint you know it's going to be authentic. I love, love love this place. We try to stop in once a week. FYI- they have some daily deals. My favorite deal is their Taco Tuesdays. You can get 2 Tacos for $5 and they are huge!! My family and I are vegetarian so we've tried a decent amount of their vegetarian options including the tacos, tostadas, rice, beans, and their Chile Releno. I'm from southern cali (moved to Colfax 3 years ago) and this place is an authentic little spot. The owner is a sweet Mexican lady and their cooks are all Mexican that don't speak a lick of English (Just how I like it). They have a couple of gals at the cash register that are both really nice. But what makes this place standout from any other in the region (including Auburn and Roseville) is their salsa. Everyone knows that the litmus test to a real Authentic Mexican restaurant is their chips and Salsa and this place has the best in the region. It may look tiny, but it is mighty! The salsa bar if filled with all my favorites: Pico de Gallo, mild, Medium and some real HOT stuff. They fused together salsas that are not found at other spots. Just the salsa bar here alone is worth it! No other place holds a candle to this spot's salsa bar. It's so good I can drink that stuff. It's conveniently located off the freeway near the Valero gas station. The prices are reasonable and the portions are huge! Hard to believe that Colfax has one of the best little taquerias in the area. Don't go to Auburn (unless you go to Burritos Jaliscos) or def not Roseville. This place is legit! FYI- Everything is homemade made from scratch so it takes a little time to make it. read more

Maddie is one of our go-to stops when we are in Colfax. It's great to grab one of their delicious burritos and put it in your rucksack to take skiing or boarding! In our crowd, they love it because it's not so greasy like the $14 slice of pizza they sell in the lodge! It's actually good for you and it's great with the bag of chips it comes with and some salsa. For my first visit I wanted to sample a variety of meats, so I got three tacos: Al Pastor, Asada and Carnitas. All were fresh and high quality with excellent flavor and no inedible fat/gristle. Served on two soft, lightly fried yellow corn tortillas topped with onions and cilantro. Very good free chips and a salsa bar with mild green, super hot Habanero, and Pico de Gallo options. Tapatio and Cholula bottles are on the tables to meet red sauce needs. Pickled carrots & jalapenos, radishes and limes also available. WOW!! I wish I took pictures so y'all could see our delicious meals. But it was so good I couldn't waste eating time. This was the best machaca I've ever had! My husband has carne asada tacos which had the most flavorful, tender meat. The beans and rice are a true test of a quality meal and these were exceptional. Literally stood in front of the order window for 2 1/2 minutes while the guy ignored me and played on his phone. The other worker asked him twice if he would assist me and he just kept flicking away on his smart phone the disrespect I don't know how long you need to stand in front of someone before they acknowledged you but off that experience alone I won't eat there even though it smells pretty good.
