We had a great time at Sierra Sun Cloud Inn. The inn is located at the top of a hill near Colfax and has beautiful views of the mountains in all directions. The setting is idyllic and the B&B itself is a beautiful, sprawling house with 4 guest bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Two of the rooms have private, in room bathrooms. The other two room share a bathroom that can be accessed by either room. If one couple occupies one of the rooms then the other room is left empty so that the bathroom can be private. However, if 2 couples wanted to occupy the two rooms they could share the bathroom on request. The rooms are meticulously clean and well-appointed. Each room has it's own theme and all rooms have charming views. There is a great hot tub outdoors under the stars. It is always surprising how many stars you can see when you are not surrounded by light pollution! The proprietors, Alicia and Guy, are very friendly and welcoming and make your stay just that much more enjoyable. Alicia is a fabulous cook and the breakfast is so good you will be talking about it for weeks. Coming from the Bay Area to drop daughter off at UNR, and needed somewhere to stay on way back. Found this hidden gem. Lovely clean rooms, various sitting areas and an excellent home made breakfast. Quite too- lots of wild life, saw many deer, a skunk and bunny on the road. There is a game room with a pool table, big TV and complementary wine too. The owner Guy is very friendly. Highly recommend this place. PS go to the Tin Lantern, in Meadow Vista for a wonderful dinner! read more

My wife and I had a couple of days free to just get away someplace quiet and relaxing. I found this B&B that is located on top of a hill and away from any town. We were in luck as we had the whole place to ourselves,another good reason to book on Mondays. It was fun to play keep away with Cooper, the big tough dog, as my dog of 12 yrs had recently passes away. Breakfast was perfect.Guy recommended some hiking trails close by on the Weimar property,so with Cooper in tow we set out. The trails are all well marked and groomed.We came across the old Weimar Sanatorium Cemetery. Incredible place,over 1450 people are buried there dating to 1919. We are already planing returning sometime during the winter months with some close friends. I had read on the web site about some gorgeous views of mountains, but the King fire kind of changed that. read more

I just got back from the most relaxing and refreshing weekend at Sierra Sun Cloud Inn, and I am so thrilled that this gem is just 2 hours from me. A tip: Get directions directly from Guy or Alicia, the owners, as internet directions will lead you astray. Everything was absolutely perfect; The large, gorgeous house on 18.5 acres of rolling green hills and wild flowers, the country style decor throughout every room, the millions of stars that come down close at night. Falling asleep to the sounds of bullfrogs (Added bonus: No mosquitoes because of these little guys) , watching the sunset in the Hammock in the front yard. They have two adorable puppies that stay out of the way unless you want to play with them outside. The breakfast that was served every morning was so, so delicious. The first morning was a fruit crepe with a poached egg and bacon, (they are concerned and accommodating with any dietary restrictions) and the second breakfast was a baked egg dish with veggies in it and fruit on the side. Guy and Alicia have an excellent business and very obviously love what they do as shown through their genuine interest in talking with their guests. I believe that I found something truly special in this place and cannot wait to return in the Autumn to watch the foliage change colors! read more

My girlfriend and I just returned from the most wonderful stay at Sierra Sun Cloud Inn. This place is truly a hidden gem. Upon arriving, we were pleasantly met with beautifully landscaped grounds including a beautiful pond and flowers. We arrived just in time to watch the sunset in a hammock, followed by a dip in the hot tub! It was so quiet and serene. We stayed in the Morning Glory Room which was adorable and cheaper than the other rooms due to a detached, private bathroom which we didn't mind at all. Other amenities included an entertainment room with a pool table, free coffee, Red & White Wine and bottled water. Breakfast was delicious the next morning and we highly enjoyed the conversation with the other guests. We will definitely return as this is my new favorite spot. read more

This is a beautiful property and the proprietor (Guy) was very accommodating . I only have one caveat. The Morning Glory room does not have an en suite bathroom. I did not find this out until the night before our stay when I called to confirm the reservation (which we made thru Hotels.com). Guy did say he normally lets guests know ahead of time, but didn't have a way to contact us. It wasn't really that unmanageable, but it did come as a surprise (particularly at the price). However, the bathroom we had access to was private so that was a plus. Again, I bring this up only as a caveat for those who don't like to make a long trip down an unfamiliar hallway to the bathroom in the middle of the night! read more

We were attempting to drive home to Tahoe from the Bay Area the day after Thanksgiving, but after more than seven hours on Highway 80 CalTrans closed the road. We were desperate to find a hotel but so were many others and didn't have any luck. I finally found the Sierra Sun Cloud Inn online and booked a room for the night. Unfortunately, I booked it for the following week instead of that night. When we showed up that night at their doorstep, obviously Bonnie and Guy were surprised to see us. Even though they didn't have a room ready, they were kind enough to prepare a room for us for the night and were very gracious hosts. The Inn was beautiful and we enjoyed the wonderful breakfast they prepared the next morning. We stayed here for our wedding night in the Victorian room on 7/27/013. I have never spent so much on a room for a single night, but I also have not felt like I have gotten so much more than what I paid for. The room was gorgeous! My wife absolutely loved the style and simplicity of the room. Guy and Alicia (the hosts) were friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was warm and accommodating. Very relaxing place to stay. The breakfast was delicious as well. And the views. The views were really nice. The property is very well maintained, and very beautifully decorated. We felt like we had just came home ... never felt so good to stay away from home! I'm sure we will stay again some time in the future. We highly recommend this place. The price is high, but you will leave feeling pampered and refreshed, and it is worth every penny, especially for a special occasion! read more

This large, beautiful home is immaculately maintained. The grounds are gorgeous, the views are expansive and there's quiet to spare. The Victorian room we stayed in was overflowing with charm and little decorative details. Our bed was super comfortable. We didn't hear a peep from anybody else in the house. The host is very chill, pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately we only stayed overnight but I'd love to hang out here for a couple days and enjoy the grounds. I'll recommend this place to my friends for sure. Side Note: I'm also impressed that Apple Maps was able to guide us here, given my earlier confidence in that app. This place is not easy to find in the dark, there are lots of turns once you get off the main road but man, Siri came through with flying colors. read more

The breakfast they served was magnificent and we enjoyed talking to the other guests at the breakfast table in the dining room. Lovely place..Google maps went a little wonky once I got to Coyote Hill road, so I am very glad I followed the proprietor's directions..Very clean, well maintained and just charming. I stayed in the Morning Glory room and it was very quiet..The ground were so pretty and the view was wonderful. I had to leave before breakfast was served but I saw what they were cooking and it looked terrific.. fresh fruit, bacon and eggs... yum Thanks for squeezing me in at the last minute.. it made my trip to Colfax for a funeral a little nicer read more

This was the third time we have stayed here, and every time it has been wonderful. This place is a little known gem. It is at the top of this long driveway which sneaks up to the top of a mountain. From this vantage point, you can see for miles and miles. There is a beautiful little pond, lovely flowers, and a very large lush green lawn, complete with hammock and chairs for relaxing. We stayed in the Victoria room for the 2nd time. It has been redone since we stayed there last, with a large, King-size, four poster bed. It is really high off the ground! The room was lovely. We also spent some time in the Rec Room, playing a few games of pool. The breakfast was delicious. Guy made us French Toast with fresh fruit on top, and even made some without egg for my wife who is allergic to eggs. This establishment is only an hour away from our home, and so when we would like just a little mini-retreat to get away and enjoy spending time with each other, it is perfect. My husband grabbed this place as a surprise to me for our planned trip to a show in Colfax. An early Anniversary getaway. We live 25 minutes away in Auburn but when we arrived here, we felt like we were in a different world. First and foremost, Guy welcomed us at the door. Gave us a tour. Game room with pool table, stereo, couches, tv. Showed us our room. It was beautiful. I swear to God, I wish my own house was half as clean. It has a rather 80s/early 90s feel (so for kids staying may seem antique lol) but omg how does one get a bathroom with tile counters, showers and floor so prestine? Towels were large and fluffy. I can't get over how clean everything was. The bed was super comfy. The breakfast with Bonnie was wonderful. Yogurt and fruit. Coffee. Scrambled eggs on a light tortilla with dishes on the side to add cheese, salsa etc. She was super fun to hang out with and we got to know her so much and felt so comfortable with her that when we started to help clear the table she said "If you try to help, we will charge you extra" lol. LOVE HER!! This place is amazing and we can't wait to go back!!! read more

If you are ever in the area, stay here!! If you are a local, stay here for a night!! The sunsets from the views could be ranked with the word's best. They are to be captured. The house and rooms were decorated with beautiful furniture and were very comfortable. The breakfasts were filling, creative and delicious. The hospitality is some of the best I have ever received. My husband and I held our wedding ceremony and reception at the Sierra Sun Cloud Inn on 9/19/15 and it was exceptional. The scenery there is beautiful and the outdoor view is amazing. I needed a place to stay close to Lake of the Pines in Auburn, CA and luckily came across this little gem on priceline.com. I stayed here on July 15, 2011 with my 11 month old daughter. The grounds were beautiful with a spectacular, breathtaking view. The room was spacious, quiet and very clean. The owners were friendly and immediately made me feel totally comfortable. It was akin to staying at a distant relatives house. I took full advantage of the play/entertainment room enjoying a complimentary glass of wine while my daughter played and then we watched a movie. We had a restful night's sleep and awoke to a generous, and again, complimentary full breakfast. The proprietors were very accommodating to me and my hectic schedule. They also stayed flexible in their schedule allowing me to check-in and check-out at times that worked for me so that I was able to relax and enjoy my little getaway. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because I would have preferred to have a curtain in my room. Not for privacy, since no one could humanly possible see in that room's window, but because of the sun waking my babygirl at the crack of dawn. The experience I had while staying here was very pleasant. After going to a wedding out of town and checking in far later than expected due to a fire in the area, I was greeted nicely upon arrival shown around briefly and told about breakfast and the gaming room. Since it was very late in the evening the paper work was held to be filled out in the morning which was greatly appreciated. The room was very clean and everything worked properly. Breakfast was quite good the following morning. There was also no rush in checking out which was fantastic I recommend this place to anyone going out of town and planning to stay over night in the area! read more
