Was recommended here for breakfast from our Irish cabbie and it was so good. It was early so very few people in the pub. The ladies were sweet and accommodating and the food choices fresh and tasty. I would love to go have a drink there in the evening. Highly recommended as it was also centrally located in walking distances to a bunch of things. So I saw Slattery's on an Anthony Bourdain series and had to go when we were in Dublin. The food looked amazing on the show, but it was late, we weren't really hungry, and it was packed. Next time we'll definitely get food. We got a small table right away. Service is very good here. I had a couple of Harp's. Fresh and delicious pints. The bar is absolutely beautiful and historic. Why is this best Guinness ive ever had?? lol.. no joke simply the best. Now obviously back home in Los Angeles we have the same beer but this is next level. The servers are so nice and helpful I actually stopped a waitress to ask her a question while she went outside to deliver a phone to a customer. So yeah she was super helpful. The ambiance here is loud, not sure about the day time but at night it was loud.. so don't expect quiet conversations. 1 star for ambiance is all they get from me. Family and I went in for lunch/drinks midday after a long day traveling and were completely ignored by staff after we sat at a table. After 10 or so minutes sitting there, I got up to ask one of the several waitresses milling about if they were serving and she grunted a yes, threw some menus down on the table and then went back to shoot the shit with her co (non) workers who all proceeded to ignore us until we up and left after another 10 minutes. Clearly a place relying on their history and location near a popular tourist hotel, and could give a rat's ass about customer service. As bad a welcome to Dublin as one could have. Fortunately every other business we frequented during our Dublin stay was welcoming and happy to have us spend money at their business (and overtip their servers)! read more

This place was right next to our hotel when we were in Dublin so we came here twice in the afternoon for drinks/food. Both times the staff was rude, and couldn't be bothered. We ordered poutine, which they were able to make becasue they had gravy on hand for another special. That's great, but they gave us our food, with no napkins and no utensils of any kind. When we asked for napkins and utensils, they girl behind the bar literally rolled her eyes and ignored us. When we tried to pay, we asked a different bartender if we could get our bill, and he looked over at us, and was like...I'm helping this person so just wait. Really? Becasue it looks like you aren't doing a damn thing but standing there making sure the floor doesn't float away. I went to this restaurant for a pub crawl and this was the last place on our list. My group got food and shots of whiskey and gin and tonic. Now excluding the drinks, the food was very good, I would highly recommend the garlic bread with cheese and the fish and chips. The service was great, we all got our food in a timely manner even with a big group. Everyone was nice and very friendly. My group ate upstairs where it was more of a restaurant than a bar so it was a bit more calm then the rest of the place in town which we all enjoyed. My wife and I wandered in here on our vacation and enjoyed the atmosphere. Service was good, friendly and helpful. They answered our touristy questions like what is the sport playing in tv (hurling) and why was there a bowl of water with lemon served with the chicken wings (to wash your fingers off in after). The food (wings) was good. I liked how the wings were not overly sauced but still flavorful and meaty. The Guinness was a proper pour and tasted better here than in America. When I first decided to go to Dublin for vacation, I knew more or less of all the things I wanted to do. I wanted to eat Irish Breakfasts' and drink as much homeland Guinness (at domestic prices) as I could. The second I landed I had put a hard ban on all food and drink until I had gotten to Slattery's for my official first meal. I didn't even drink water between the airport and the bar! I chose Slattery's based on Anthony Bourdain's recommendation. Honestly it lived up to it, for each day I was in Dublin, I had an Irish breakfast and Slattery's was one of the better ones. Although Slattery's did seem to miss some of the other staples of a normal Irish breakfast (baked beans), I was fully satisfied after eating everything on the plate. I loved the thick cut of black and white pudding. I've always loved asian versions of blood sausage and the Irish one is just as good, if not better. For drinks I opted for the standard Guinness or two. Slattery's is definitely not the only pub in Ireland and definitely not the only place you can get the hearty Irish Breakfast, but definitely make a stop here if you're in the neighborhood; At the very least for a pint and some food. I tried the lamb stew and it was extremely salty, the red wine is average as well and served warm way warmer then a red wine should be served at. read more

Went there on a Wednesday evening to get something to eat before going to the movies. The bar is ok. It was quite quiet since it was a weekly night, the place wasn't busy at all which was good as we didn't want to get in a packed bar where it's impossible to talk or sit. The menu was kinda weird. Slatterys has that old time feel without being an old man's pub. The decor is traditional with its chunky wooden tables, tiled floors and big glass windows. This pub is most often busy with a mix of older and younger customers. I discovered it after friends of mine who work in a pub suggested we go there. I think it's popular with those who work in the service industry. When I was there last night, there was live music. Three musicians, a guitarist and two violinists, were playing traditional Irish music. There was a great atmosphere, really laid-back, it being Sunday and all. Slatterys makes a carvery lunch most days and offers really great service. The bartenders are very professional and polite. read more

Took some Aussie relatives here, it's a nice atmosphere and great Irish feel to it. Waitress was very nice to us. My relatives had steak and chips, the chips are massive and delicious!! I had the 'Slaney Valley Wicklow Lamb Stew' which was soooo delicious!!! Bit disappointed with the plainness of the bread that came with it, a nice crusty roll or soda bread would have suited it better. Also.... isn't Slaney Valley in Wexford....;) My mother got the mixed veg soup which was nice, then a chicken lettuce and tomato sandwich. The chicken was spicy so they really should have that detail on the menu, as my mother couldn't eat it. Desserts were baileys cheesecake which was ok, but the apple pie was amazing!! I rarely review places on Yelp anymore, but this experience deserves to be documented. First: the playlist was absolutely the best my gf and I have ever heard; smooth 80s jams for almost two straight hours with not a single miss. Seriously. Not one bad tune in two hours. Secondly, the staff was amazing and on top of everything, despite a ton of people, all in various states of inebriation. Prices were reasonable, location was fantastic, and the bartenders gave sage advice about taxis for our trip home. Lastly, the environment was just good old fashioned fun. While we didn't eat, apparently Anthony Bourdain highly recommends the full Irish Breakfast...which, if I'm not mistaken, starts at 7am. I haven't had this much fun at a bar in ages. After almost a decade my boyfriend recommended we return to Slatterys especially after Anthony Bourdain's visit making it famous. We came here before and on St. Patrick's day so I did have some varied experiences. The first, everyone ordered something different. The fish and chips (which are French fries at Slattery's) were really good, not too fried or fishy or boney (I've had my share). My boyfriend had the fish and chips AND the Irish breakfast which was very hardy in portions of the sausages and satisfying. I also had the Irish stew which was delicious and came with some irish bread which is different from the traditional Irish soda bread -- Disclaimer: American version of Irish soda bread is much sweeter than the traditional Irish soda bread in Ireland. As in most Irish pubs, Guiness is king, however, Slattery's had a decent beer, selection as well as listing of wine and spirits. Everytthing was cooked and prepared well, servers both times were very attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was anything you'd get in an American-Irish pub. I particularly enjoyed the live music both nights we went to Slattery's. A few repeats on the playlist but very fun. Also the decor on the ceilings and walls provides a very homey vibe with a curiosity of the history and stories that come with all the trinkets. Definitely stroll in (not on St. Patrick's Day) if you're in Dublin and on the North side. read more

I stopped in here for lunch the other day. They do carvery and sandwiches and perhaps the veg lost a lot of it's juices due to extreme boiling but it was tasty and put meat on your bones affair. Also it was very reasonable and the service was extremely friendly. There was ALOT of people in there drinking - seems like a hardcore day time drinking spot which either tempts you or depresses you. As we inched our way along the snow and ice, we talked about what we would do if we ever got in out of the cold. Find a seat by a fire was top of the list, so when we popped our heads around the doors of Slattery's and saw that they had one, we were sold. (Okay, so it's gas fire, but any port in a storm. We had clocked the a la carte lunch menu outside, but were encouraged to have a look at the lunchtime carvery, which is significantly cheaper. A roast sandwich with a smattering of chips is EUR6.95, while full dinners can be obtained for just a few euro more. I had a hot pork sandwich (no jokes please) and it was nice, although a wee bit fatty. My companion had the sausage and mash with a bit of everything thrown in with it - portions are generous - and he was more than happy. I've been in slatterys more in the last month than I have ever before! One of the lads in work gets his dinner there over lunch as he has college straight after, I tagged along and was greeted by the friendly staff and a smell of good food. Fairly good selection of food, anything from sandwiches/rolls to curry to a full beef dinner (my usual!) Not cheap but nothing extortionate, usually quiet enough and not cramped at all, and if its a particularly bad day the temptation to have a pint is there! Last week I dropped in for a pint on the way home from the cinema with a friend. The big screen was down and the football was on several screens. Minneapolis, MN). But, it was good. My only complaint was that we seemed to have some communication issues with our server... despite the fact that we speak English, and she speaks English. When we arrived, we asked about drink options, and she said that they only served gin... which we thought was weird. Slattery was where we stopped in for the one Irish Breakfast of our trip. The place opens at 7 and it looked like people had been there for a while when we arrived at 9:30. The only kind of breakfast they serve is the Irish one, so that's what we ordered. Eggs, sausage, bacon, black and white pudding and a little toast. For the price, it was one of our best value meals during our trip. A warning, the coffee that comes with the Irish Breakfast is instant and not wonderful. This is one of the best known pubs on Capel Street. It's big, it's traditional, it does food and a pretty good trade all week long. I've always thought of Capel Street as Camden Street's north-sider sister. They're both pretty much the same thing just on either side of the river. If this is the case then Slattery's, with it's live music upstairs, is probably Capel Street's answer to Whelan's. First night in Dublin and stumbled upon Slattery's and very happy I did. Karl the barkeep was friendly chatty and very good at keeping you in your seat at the large square bar. Obviously started without a Guinness, why I have no idea but I did. I began what turned out to be a 3-4 hour visit with a Hop House Lager, it is not a Guinness but forgive me on my first bar visit in Dublin. My wife and I quickly were chatting with a local patron Alan, what a pleasant beginning to all of the contacts we have shared with the Irish people during our visit. We never did get to have food but we did receive sustenance in the form of a Teeling's Whiskey tasting.
