    Beer tour of Dublin
    Michael H.

So I saw Slattery's on an Anthony Bourdain series and had to go when we were in Dublin. The food looked amazing on the show, but it was late, we weren't really hungry, and it was packed. Next time we'll definitely get food. We got a small table right away. Service is very good here. I had a couple of Harp's. Fresh and delicious pints. The bar is absolutely beautiful and historic. We really enjoyed Slattery's to end our first night in Dublin.

    Best Guinness ever..

Why is this best Guinness ive ever had?? lol.. no joke simply the best. Now obviously back home in Los Angeles we have the same beer but this is next level. The servers are so nice and helpful I actually stopped a waitress to ask her a question while she went outside to deliver a phone to a customer. So yeah she was super helpful. The ambiance here is loud, not sure about the day time but at night it was loud.. so don't expect quiet conversations. But seriously, I'm glad we stopped and braved walk in the rain back to the hotel lol. Def will be back before we leave.

Texting, texting, texting.... waiting for the fish and chips

I really wanted fish and chips, and this was super close to our hotel. The food was very good but it was super noisy so you can't even hold a conversation - and this is a Sunday!

Standard pub with food. Didn't order any food, so can't comment, but it was close to our accommodations, so great place to enjoy a pint or two.

We stopped into Slattery's for lunch. We were seated at a high table next to the bar. The place has a lot of history and character. I had the lamb stew that came with bread. It had chunks of lamb, carrots, potatoes, onions, leeks and spices. It was a large portion and hearty. It could have used more salt or flavor but was satisfying on a cold day.

They call condiments "sauces" here and recommend the brown sauce (malted vinegar) with you fries which they call chips.

My wife and I wandered in here on our vacation and enjoyed the atmosphere. Service was good, friendly and helpful. They answered our touristy questions like what is the sport playing in tv (hurling) and why was there a bowl of water with lemon served with the chicken wings (to wash your fingers off in after). The food (wings) was good. I liked how the wings were not overly sauced but still flavorful and meaty. The Guinness was a proper pour and tasted better here than in America. The pub apparently was one of thin lizzy's first gigs and they play lots of local live music after business hours. A solid food pub experience in Dublin.

When I first decided to go to Dublin for vacation, I knew more or less of all the things I wanted to do. I wanted to eat Irish Breakfasts' and drink as much homeland Guinness (at domestic prices) as I could. The second I landed I had put a hard ban on all food and drink until I had gotten to Slattery's for my official first meal. I didn't even drink water between the airport and the bar! I chose Slattery's based on Anthony Bourdain's recommendation. Honestly it lived up to it, for each day I was in Dublin, I had an Irish breakfast and Slattery's was one of the better ones. Although Slattery's did seem to miss some of the other staples of a normal Irish breakfast (baked beans), I was fully satisfied after eating everything on the plate. I loved the thick cut of black and white pudding. I've always loved asian versions of blood sausage and the Irish one is just as good, if not better. For drinks I opted for the standard Guinness or two. Slattery's is definitely not the only pub in Ireland and definitely not the only place you can get the hearty Irish Breakfast, but definitely make a stop here if you're in the neighborhood; At the very least for a pint and some food. This is likely to be a mainstay of any future trips to Ireland for me. Sláinte!

Pubs in Dublin are for drinks not food. So this place is lively for drinks and hanging our with friends any night of the week. The food is not good. I tried the lamb stew and it was extremely salty, the red wine is average as well and served warm way warmer then a red wine should be served at.

I should have known it would be a disaster when the female bartender had to as the waitress how to make it needless to say it was not very good. After a while my friend decided to get one more round before we left. Well to say we were shocked is an understatement. When the waitress came over she went to order a drink to which the response was cant you see I'm busy what's wrong with you going to the bar, as she turned and walked away and went back to the bar to chat with another member of staff. The girl that had been looking after us earlier I think had finished which was a shame. Needless to say we didn't stay for another drink. This would put me off going back I could understand if it was busy but service like this is not acceptable

The Wind Jammer is not, however, one of the really fun early houses. For fun early houses that serve already somewhat inebriated people, try The Chancery. The Wind Jammer is the type of early house that caters to shift workers and Gardaí from Pearse St coming off the night shift. Apart from a few couples the morning after the Trinity Ball, they wouldn't let in too many post-club revellers. The door is closed most early mornings, and they have a CCTV camera to give ya a good hard scrutinising before they'll let you in. The only time I was there for early pints, there was only one other group of young lads there and the barman looked like he was about to stop serving them. During the rest of the day and night, the Wind Jammer is a quiet pub frequented mainly by old, grumpy locals, who would sooner bite your head off than ask you the time of day. If you're really desperate for a drink and can't make it til half ten when the rest of the pubs open, by all means go to The Wind Jammer. Otherwise, there isn't that much else to recommend to it. Oh, one other thing. The Wind Jammer is the closest pub to Windmll Lane Studios, so U2 and The Saw Doctors among others have retired there for post-recording session pints over the years. Not the type of thing that would interest me, but sure it might interest you so I thought that I'd tack it on the end there
