The restaurant is in a quite area of downtown Occoquan. There are several shops around that would make this a cute lunch date. It sits right on the water so I was think the seafood would be really fresh. Most of that things appetizing to me on the menu were fried. I am not a big fan of fried foods especially when you are right on the water. I order the crab stew and the mahi mahi fish tacos. I wasnt impressed. The slaw on the tacos had a lot of vinegar and the fish was fried very hard. Crispy like chip. The french fries were great but to get fries is an up charge (weird). My friend ordered the shrimp po boy. It came out open faced and kind of hard to put your mouth around but she enjoyed it. The crab stew was ok. I finished it. But nothing to brag about. This restaurant was sooo awesome. We had a fantastic server that delivered impeccable service. His is name was Ronnie and he has only been working their for one month. The drinks were amazing, the food presentation was divine, and the taste was unforgettable. The Sangria is a must cocktail, the Charcuterie Board was a great appetizer, and the Sea salad and the American Salad with Salmon was great. I stopped by the Occoquan area to get away from all the cabin fever of COVID. My girlfriend and I decided to dine here and we were happy with our decision. We got the cheese plate as an appetizer, and then the surf/turf and salmon for our entrees. Everything was delicious and the staff was excellent in terms of their service as well as making us feel safe with how they are handling the covid guidelines. After waiting 20 minutes for a table outside at 6pm on a Sunday, we were shown to a table right next to the smoking area...and we had specifically asked for a table for two plus a highchair since we had our 13-month-old in tow. There was a lady smoking not 5' from the table they thought was a good fit for my toddler. Really? Asked for a different table and after a little hemming and hawing and 10 minutes later, they sat us at 1 of the 8 open tables. Our server showed up and took our drink order and the first thing I asked for was bread & butter to pacify the baby as he was starving. How long did it take to get bread & butter do you ask? 45 MINUTES. Yeah, my poor kid was inconsolable. We almost left but kept thinking it couldn't take any longer, it's gotta be coming through the door any minute, right?! Nope. Food started showing up and it looked like it was plated by a 4-year-old. And like they'd run out of ingredients. Asked for silverware, asked for missing salad dressing, another 10 minute wait. Are you kidding me? Am I on camera and this is a joke? Nope. Main courses came out and they had obviously been sitting for a while because they were barely warm. My husband's king crab legs looked like something that red lobster wouldn't even serve - very tiny. My steak was cooked well-done when I had ordered medium. And then 5 minutes after our food was brought to the table, my son's food was brought to the table and it was wrong, they had subbed his broccoli/carrot/cauliflower for French fries. At this point, we were ready to pay and GTFO. Our son was melting down. We had been in this godforsaken place for 90 MINUTES. All this was had for a lofty total of $150. Sounds like a deal, right? If you're looking a nice place to eat on a beautiful Sunday evening, this ain't it. Go to a Great American Restaurant instead. My husband and I went on Tuesday and we were not greeted when we arrived despite being the only customers in there, Our server, (Benny or Benji) was hyper, all over the and had no knowledge of anything. He couldn't point you in the direction of the sky if his life depended on it. However, he was sweet and sincere and therefore the only saving grace during this treacherous dining experience. Decided to try out Madigan's Waterfront for a Saturday date night and it's safe to say that we are "mad" for Madigan's now! The wait time for an outdoor table was easily resolved by some Cabernet Sauvignon at the bar. We were just as impressed with the environment as we were the scenic riverscape. Our server Lauren beamed with charisma and energy. Aside from being a gracious and hospitable host, she took the time to make small talk with us (and shared her passion for the arts). The friendly atmosphere Lauren provided helped light up our night like a Broadway stage, if you will. We capped off our dining experience with a walk down the dock to enjoy the calmness of the riverfront before heading back inside for a medley of dueling pianos. Eat here if you like getting sick. Please check their recent ratings as they had about 80 health violations. The staff is extremely rude and the food is pricey. The quality is not there for the food. I can tell the seafood is frozen because it taste freezer burnt and chewy. It always takes forever to come out as well. It has a nice view but I would not recommend coming here after seeing their latest inspections which are public. Please do your research as your health is very important. Well yesterday I received a call that my reservation made in March was messed up for Easter brunch. The time slot taken, and confirmed last week didn't exist on their calendar. Went for dinner, had Lobster bisque as a starter. I could not find any lobster at all in the soup and the bowl was just over half full when they brought it out. I had the Crab Cakes which were more like balls of stove top stuffing (Not Good) and the mash potatoes were dry and bland. I've been here twice and every type of food I've ever had was pretty bad (corn fritters-bad, shrimp kids meal-abysmal, popcorn shrimp were the size of my finger nail, crab chowder-ok but wouldn't do it again, crab cake- ok but didn't even want to finish it). The waitress service painfully slow (20 minutes for initial drinks, 20 minutes to get check, didn't bring obvious items like ketchup with the fries, never offered a drink refill for entire meal) and not very friendly. The hostess was polite, though. Basically, after having two identical bad experiences with food a and service, I've concluded the only reason to come here is to have a beer while looking at the nice water view with hours to burn so you don't get frustrated by the service. read more

They did not offer swordfish as a dinner, only combined with tilapia which I don't eat. They were able to serve swordfish without the added fish. There were many open tables from what we could see yet the hostess said it would be a 30 minute wait and took my cell #. We walked along the river about 20 minutes then returned to see even more empty tables and were finally shown to a table. Our flatbread appetizer was tasty, our entrees were scallops, bone-in ribeye, dirty chicken pasta and fried oysters (from the appetizer menu) and were a notch below mediocre, and the apple tart we ordered for dessert was obviously microwaved. UPDATE Seems that they have stepped up their game. The prices remain the same, but the food has become much better since I last came here about a year ago (see original review under this one). The hosts and waitresses are very pleasant and there is occasionally live music playing on the outside deck. Food still takes forever to come, even if it's just two people. I had to wait 30+ mins each time I come here, regardless of party size. I have changed my three star review to a four star. ORIGINAL I came here twice. Both experiences were far from pleasant. While the view is fantastic, the service and food is not. The food is very bland, but expensive for what you get. They also give fairly small portions. Both times I went when it was fairly empty, but it always took over 35 minutes to get my food. The only redeeming quality about this place is the outside seating has a great view of the Potomac River. I would go here solely for that. read more

The restaurant was almost empty so you would expect great service and food. Neither happened although, we had a good start. Four of us ordered crab soup-when they finally arrived, the soup was cold. We sent back and three came out hot. The forth came out much later and was not hot (again). Finally, it arrived hot. The wedge salad should have had salad dressing with it and I asked for it several times. It was a solid ten minutes before it was brought out. This place is super cute in a fun little town off of 95. With a great waterfront view we saw geese kayaks and lots of boats. Monique was great on top of it and well above average service! Food was pretty good with a lot of offerings good portions and fun flavors. A bunch of cute shops right outside the front door. It's a great summer place! This makes me so sad to write a review like this, but I just can't support this restaurant even though I used to be a business owner in Occoquan for 5 years. I love Occoquan. I wish the best for all businesses in this lovely, forgotten town. That being said, my review is based on MULTIPLE experiences here from my five years of trying to give this restaurant another chance. But when on separate occasions I get: 1. Ants in my martini because they don't properly store bottles in their outside bar and I didn't realize it until the last swig (it was a chocolate martini, not clear) and I was pulling ants out of my mouth...and then when I showed them my glass and napkin full of ants, all they could do was offer to take the drink off-- what the... 2. Ordered the brie and fruit plate with a friend, was wondering why the brie was so hard to cut in to...it should be soft. Oh, maybe it's because THEY LEFT THE PLASTIC WRAPPER AROUND IT. This whole thing was a disaster including our waiter. I digress... 3. When my husband and I were attending a special Occoquan event and he's a thin 145lb guy and the CHAIR BREAKS in the dining room and he falls and embarrasses himself in front of all of the Occoquan business owners and their dates... Do I need to go on? This doesn't even include the food. Which a restaurant like this, in this location has so much potential, yet lacks in every single department. The only redeeming quality this restaurant has is the tiki bar in back (which I must remind you to check your drinks for ants!) on the water that's open with live music in the summer. But just don't eat here. Or drink foggy drinks here. Or come here. How about that, just don't come here. You'd be better off going to The Secret Garden Cafe or the Cock and Bowl in town instead. read more

This place was very meh. The restaurant itself is situated behind a sportsbar, and while the restaurant area is nice, its bathrooms are in the bar. The bar smells like cheap beer and bad decisions. If I'm paying like $12 for a sandwich and $7 for my kid's plain pasta, maybe spring for better bathrooms? Maybe? The food was decent, if nothing else. I think I'd rather have spent my time in the bar. At least there, I know what I'm getting. A party of 27 seniors reserved a meal there yesterday. It was a very special event for them. Many arrived early (because they're seniors!) and were told to get out. They weren't allowed to wait inside. Whenever one sat down, they were told to leave and not come back until their reservation time (20 minutes later). There were no other customers, so it's not like they were taking up valuable space. The reviews I received from this wonderful group was "the food was OK, but the service was awful. They were mean and we will never got back." One said the bathroom was in the enclosed smoking bar, so he had to walk through there to get to the bathroom (ick!). There was another option outside, so he'd had to go through the rain. I'm a younger diner and eat out often, but I won't go near hear. Shame on Madigans. read more

I don't mind going into a smokey bar if I'm prepared for it-- usually I wear clothes I don't care about-- but to smell the smoke on my clothes for the entire day? No. And the little shack by the tiki bar was *HORRIBLE*-- obviously hadn't been cleaned in yeaaaaaaaaaaaaars (That might be a slight exaggeration), but regardless. I just ended up breaking down and going into the smoking section. Grrrrrrrrrrr! Service -- UGH! I won't say it's the worst I've ever had, but if my server had any more attitude coming off of her, I'd have choked on it. Oh, I'm sorry-- am I *inconveniencing* you by patronizing your establishment? I sure hope your attitude pays the bills, because your tips with that 'tude can't be doing it! A nice spot on the water. The inside has a great ambiance and the outside deck is on the water. Drinks were a bit weak and the $6.02 sangria raised a brow (2 cents? Really?). The cheese and charcuterie board was a disappointment - all fruit and cheese with a trace of salty meat, no pickled items or contrasting flavors to contrast the sweetness. Finally, the prime rib was cooked to perfection but the portion of the overall meal did not justify the price. But, you are paying for the ambience, and it was pricey for what it is, but not aweful. Nothing inspiring. It used to be a FUN place, now it reminds me of something that's passed but refuses to acknowledge it's time has passed. I hadn't been back since Occoquan Days in Sept. I was there with my BFF to catch up. My diet has changed since I was diagnosed with "heart failure" after an ER visit last week! Joy! He ordered the soup of the day and a drink while I ordered their Chef Salad no tomato, 2 dressings on the side; balsamic vinaigrette & cheddar ranch. I told the NEW guy all on MY bill; I hadn't seen my friend in ages and I wanted to treat him. The dressings came out first...all they did was put cheese shreds in the Ranch. BLAH, thought it was melted or something like that. It would be cheaper to sprinkle on the salad. The balsamic was all oil. Server said oh, it settled. NO, I whipped it with my fork, anyway just bring me some plain balsamic vinegar. He brings out some White Balsamic vinegar and Balsamic Glaze. Glaze?! That's the vinegar cooked down (called a reduction) and it's SUPER SWEET! It was okay, nothing to write home about. Decent chunks of blue cheese almost 1/2 and avocado and a whole quartered boiled egg. My main complaints were the atmosphere and the billing issue. I was there at 6:58pm, I had to pick up my husband from work at 9pm so I had a good hour to enjoy my BFF. There were 4 bartenders and one table with 3 other people at. The music was SO LOUD I could barely hear my friend. I asked for the music to be turned down a bit. Wednesday night is Karaoke night but that doesn't START until 9PM! The bloody music WENT UP! My head was pounding and ears ringing! My friend, unfortunately ordered a glass of wine. I just wanted my head to stop hurting, but I was visiting my BFF. My phone alarm went off and I got my check, paid it. Then started to leave; to which we were stopped and our server said my friends bill was open. I said NO, I TOLD you to put it on MY bill. "Oh, I didn't hear you." Come on seriously! You heard my ORDER but not when I said on ONE bill?!?! I paid it and left a note ON the bill and almost didn't tip, but I did leave a couple of dollars because I'm IN the business, not for his ineptitude. I seem to always have problems with billing here. At first I thought I was being ignored because I was black... The hosting staff didn't really greet me nicely. As I walked in I was unacknowledged as they finished their conversation amongst each other, I had to initiate the conversation and request a table. They almost made me feel unwanted or like I was disturbing them. The margarita was disgusting! But, the food was amazing and well worth the long wait. We asked for the meat to be well done and it came out medium rare, but it was still good! The service was great. Everything was good but hospitality means a lot to me and so does good alcohol. Their wine list isn't very intricate and their drinks are just... OK. Hopefully if I go in next time I'll be greeted properly and feel more welcomed. read more
