I dont know if I got lucky the one time I went there or if its bananas ALL the time...ok it's nice, nice setting, nice waterfront views...pretty. but I was there the other day to meet up with a friend and wait out rush hour...and it was nuts! This old (caucasian) man all decked out in Miami Dolphins gear comes in and starts hollering at one of the employees, a woman of color in a Redskins jersey. I think she was an employee anyways, otherwise I believe she'd have clobbered the guy..hes drunk definitely, and I hear him say blah blah blah BI**H! . OMG!!! She says "Wha..? SAY IT AGAIN??? And he did! With an "F-bomb" for good measure! The girl is NOT having it. She goes all the way classic movie style- tosses the drink in her hand in his FACE, and hurls the glass at the floor. I hear it shatter, and she's looking at the guy like she dares him to try her. I was worried for a moment because he was SO much bigger than her! The guy ultimately left, with patrons and employees shouting at his back. I thought this was supposed to be such an upper scale place! Edit: I visited the restaurant to find out what happened. Apparently, there was a confusion between another receipt that was for the same menu but with $5 tip. The bartender made a mistake in charging me the total amount of the other receipt and charging the other customer five dollars less. In the end though, the way I was treated by the manager was superb - the exact way how every customer should be treated. She made multiple apologies and showed me two receipts where the confusion came out of. I simply asked for $5 back in cash, but the manager offered $25 gift certificate from the restaurant. With that, I'm up'ing the stars from one to four because it wasn't a fraud intentionally committed by the restaurant. Hopefully when I visit this restaurant again, I'll be more impressed and give them five stars. Well, until then. ------------------------- Original post: Not sure how this happened, but I ordered the vegetarian pasta for carryout and I paid $17.39 with taxes and no tip, but my credit card statement shows I paid $22.39, which is exactly five dollars more than what I actually paid. I'm sorry, but there's no one else but the restaurant to blame for scams like this. I did not keep the receipt, but for the first time customer to pay $5 tip on a $15 carryout food purchase s/he has never had before with more than 20 minutes wait time makes absolutely no sense. I will return to the restaurant and confront the manager today, but the fact that I have already experienced such unpleasant fraud gives this place one star nonetheless. The food is ok honestly. It's really fancy inside and they have really nice brunch on sundays. The main reason I love this place is because the patio in the back. During the summer there is live music and they use to do cornhole tournaments. The atmosphere in the back on the water is the best around. Hush puppies and corn fritters are delicious as well as the loaded baked potato soup! The carne dish was great as well. The restaurant is in a quite area of downtown Occoquan. There are several shops around that would make this a cute lunch date. It sits right on the water so I was think the seafood would be really fresh. Most of that things appetizing to me on the menu were fried. I am not a big fan of fried foods especially when you are right on the water. I order the crab stew and the mahi mahi fish tacos. I wasnt impressed. The slaw on the tacos had a lot of vinegar and the fish was fried very hard. Crispy like chip. The french fries were great but to get fries is an up charge (weird). My friend ordered the shrimp po boy. It came out open faced and kind of hard to put your mouth around but she enjoyed it. The crab stew was ok. I finished it. But nothing to brag about. This restaurant was sooo awesome. We had a fantastic server that delivered impeccable service. His is name was Ronnie and he has only been working their for one month. The drinks were amazing, the food presentation was divine, and the taste was unforgettable. The Sangria is a must cocktail, the Charcuterie Board was a great appetizer, and the Sea salad and the American Salad with Salmon was great. Her personality and overall demeanor is genuinely sweet...not like the "I'm only being nice for a tip" vibe that is often given. I stopped by the Occoquan area to get away from all the cabin fever of COVID. My girlfriend and I decided to dine here and we were happy with our decision. We got the cheese plate as an appetizer, and then the surf/turf and salmon for our entrees. Everything was delicious and the staff was excellent in terms of their service as well as making us feel safe with how they are handling the covid guidelines. Terrible, we will never dine here again. After waiting 20 minutes for a table outside at 6pm on a Sunday, we were shown to a table right next to the smoking area...and we had specifically asked for a table for two plus a highchair since we had our 13-month-old in tow. There was a lady smoking not 5' from the table they thought was a good fit for my toddler. Really? Asked for a different table and after a little hemming and hawing and 10 minutes later, they sat us at 1 of the 8 open tables. Our server showed up and took our drink order and the first thing I asked for was bread & butter to pacify the baby as he was starving. How long did it take to get bread & butter do you ask? 45 MINUTES. Yeah, my poor kid was inconsolable. We almost left but kept thinking it couldn't take any longer, it's gotta be coming through the door any minute, right?! Nope. Food started showing up and it looked like it was plated by a 4-year-old. And like they'd run out of ingredients. Asked for silverware, asked for missing salad dressing, another 10 minute wait. Are you kidding me? Am I on camera and this is a joke? Nope. Main courses came out and they had obviously been sitting for a while because they were barely warm. My husband's king crab legs looked like something that red lobster wouldn't even serve - very tiny. My steak was cooked well-done when I had ordered medium. And then 5 minutes after our food was brought to the table, my son's food was brought to the table and it was wrong, they had subbed his broccoli/carrot/cauliflower for French fries. At this point, we were ready to pay and GTFO. Our son was melting down. We had been in this godforsaken place for 90 MINUTES. All this was had for a lofty total of $150. Sounds like a deal, right? If you're looking a nice place to eat on a beautiful Sunday evening, this ain't it. Go to a Great American Restaurant instead. Trash. The food is nothing more than just trash. It's not fresh, bland and overpriced. My husband and I went on Tuesday and we were not greeted when we arrived despite being the only customers in there, Our server, (Benny or Benji) was hyper, all over the and had no knowledge of anything. He couldn't point you in the direction of the sky if his life depended on it. However, he was sweet and sincere and therefore the only saving grace during this treacherous dining experience. Decided to try out Madigan's Waterfront for a Saturday date night and it's safe to say that we are "mad" for Madigan's now! The wait time for an outdoor table was easily resolved by some Cabernet Sauvignon at the bar. We were just as impressed with the environment as we were the scenic riverscape. Our server Lauren beamed with charisma and energy. Aside from being a gracious and hospitable host, she took the time to make small talk with us (and shared her passion for the arts). The friendly atmosphere Lauren provided helped light up our night like a Broadway stage, if you will. We capped off our dining experience with a walk down the dock to enjoy the calmness of the riverfront before heading back inside for a medley of dueling pianos. Eat here if you like getting sick. Please check their recent ratings as they had about 80 health violations. The staff is extremely rude and the food is pricey. The quality is not there for the food. I can tell the seafood is frozen because it taste freezer burnt and chewy. It always takes forever to come out as well. It has a nice view but I would not recommend coming here after seeing their latest inspections which are public. Please do your research as your health is very important. I will not be recommending this on my blog ever, I will be making a post about the health violations to warn the community. read more

This makes me so sad to write a review like this, but I just can't support this restaurant even though I used to be a business owner in Occoquan for 5 years. I love Occoquan. I wish the best for all businesses in this lovely, forgotten town. That being said, my review is based on MULTIPLE experiences here from my five years of trying to give this restaurant another chance. But when on separate occasions I get: 1. Ants in my martini because they don't properly store bottles in their outside bar and I didn't realize it until the last swig (it was a chocolate martini, not clear) and I was pulling ants out of my mouth...and then when I showed them my glass and napkin full of ants, all they could do was offer to take the drink off-- what the... 2. Ordered the brie and fruit plate with a friend, was wondering why the brie was so hard to cut in to...it should be soft. Oh, maybe it's because THEY LEFT THE PLASTIC WRAPPER AROUND IT. This whole thing was a disaster including our waiter. I digress... 3. When my husband and I were attending a special Occoquan event and he's a thin 145lb guy and the CHAIR BREAKS in the dining room and he falls and embarrasses himself in front of all of the Occoquan business owners and their dates... Do I need to go on? This doesn't even include the food. Which a restaurant like this, in this location has so much potential, yet lacks in every single department. The only redeeming quality this restaurant has is the tiki bar in back (which I must remind you to check your drinks for ants!) on the water that's open with live music in the summer. But just don't eat here. Or drink foggy drinks here. Or come here. How about that, just don't come here. You'd be better off going to The Secret Garden Cafe or the Cock and Bowl in town instead. read more

This place was very meh. The restaurant itself is situated behind a sportsbar, and while the restaurant area is nice, its bathrooms are in the bar. The bar smells like cheap beer and bad decisions. If I'm paying like $12 for a sandwich and $7 for my kid's plain pasta, maybe spring for better bathrooms? Maybe? The food was decent, if nothing else. I think I'd rather have spent my time in the bar. At least there, I know what I'm getting. A party of 27 seniors reserved a meal there yesterday. It was a very special event for them. Many arrived early (because they're seniors!) and were told to get out. They weren't allowed to wait inside. Whenever one sat down, they were told to leave and not come back until their reservation time (20 minutes later). There were no other customers, so it's not like they were taking up valuable space. The reviews I received from this wonderful group was "the food was OK, but the service was awful. They were mean and we will never got back." One said the bathroom was in the enclosed smoking bar, so he had to walk through there to get to the bathroom (ick!). There was another option outside, so he'd had to go through the rain. I'm a younger diner and eat out often, but I won't go near hear. Shame on Madigans. read more

I don't mind going into a smokey bar if I'm prepared for it-- usually I wear clothes I don't care about-- but to smell the smoke on my clothes for the entire day? No. And the little shack by the tiki bar was *HORRIBLE*-- obviously hadn't been cleaned in yeaaaaaaaaaaaaars (That might be a slight exaggeration), but regardless. I just ended up breaking down and going into the smoking section. Grrrrrrrrrrr! Service -- UGH! I won't say it's the worst I've ever had, but if my server had any more attitude coming off of her, I'd have choked on it. Oh, I'm sorry-- am I *inconveniencing* you by patronizing your establishment? I sure hope your attitude pays the bills, because your tips with that 'tude can't be doing it! Went for dinner, had Lobster bisque as a starter. I could not find any lobster at all in the soup and the bowl was just over half full when they brought it out. I had the Crab Cakes which were more like balls of stove top stuffing (Not Good) and the mash potatoes were dry and bland. Wife had chicken pot pie which came in a dish like you would serve creme brulee (small) and was just OK. The best part of the meal was the bread rolls. Not very impressed and the meal was quite pricey, meal for 4 with multiple appetizers was cheaper at The Cheesecake Factory and their crab cakes are better! I will definitely not be back! read more

I was offered an hour earlier and hour later, which I took and was then told it was no longer available. Since it wasn't my error, you could expect a hold as they reached out. At first I thought I was being ignored because I was black... The hosting staff didn't really greet me nicely. As I walked in I was unacknowledged as they finished their conversation amongst each other, I had to initiate the conversation and request a table. They almost made me feel unwanted or like I was disturbing them. The margarita was disgusting! But, the food was amazing and well worth the long wait. We asked for the meat to be well done and it came out medium rare, but it was still good! The service was great. Everything was good but hospitality means a lot to me and so does good alcohol. Called one Saturday night to see if you need a reservation and was told yes, so we made one for the following Saturday to celebrate my wife's and my birthdays ( mine was thurs and hers was the following tues, sounded like a great idea and they even said over the phone that we would both get a free dessert and that they would put it on our reservation) . A reservation is simply not needed. They looked at us like, really you made a reservation? First off, Occoquan is awesome, tons of great little places. This location was well maintained, clean, had a great view and a really nice hostess had us excited to try the place. The waiter was horrible. Took forever to take our order, took forever to get our food, was not to be found. Had to stop two other waiters for a napkin (None on the table) and for a refill on my ice tea. Other waiters seemed to be a lot better, I actually saw them. The food. Be careful first off, the menu online is not the menu at the restaurant. I really wanted a Rueben but its only on the online menu. So I ordered the stuffed flounder for $22.95. The fish was okay at best. it was really small, really small. It came with 1 side...why one? cheap I guess but normally a meal will come with a vegetable and starch like mash potatoes....but on the menu so okay I ordered the garlic mash potatoes. Smallest potion I have ever seen and they were room temp. I would have been disappointed if it had a $7.99 price point not to mention $22.95. My wife ordered the Grilled Vegetarian Portobello... comically small for a Portobello, easily half the size of every other Portobello mushrooms I have ever seen. She did like them though. I guess they did not really put that it was our birthdays on our reservation because the waiter had no idea and brought us our check after we were done with out asking if we wanted dessert, but honestly we were so done with the place we just wanted to get out of the place.
