Jim is a great guy. Provide excellent workmanship regarding the tailoring of my suites, pants, and shirts. Price is what you expect for Fairfield county. Everything was completed a day early and they provide email service when complete...a nice touch. He was also honest about not taking in clothes that were too big saying the cost would be too expensive and I would be better served putting that money towards new apparel. He could have easiy charged as I was willing to pay but his advice and honesty are someting to be valued and appreciated. read more

I needed to get a dress shortened for a wedding-- at least a good 4 inches. On the description, it says that the dress was made extra long and it's meant to be tailored, which lead me to believe that tailoring this dress is not impossible. The dress was double lined to the floor, but it's a basic straight long dress with a slit and no pattern (97% polyester, 3% spandex). (It's the Paris Gown from Show Me Your MuMu). I asked if we could make the slit higher which made sense because it was a three panel dress and there was already a seam stemming from where the slit was-- I was told absolutely not--okay, fine. The turnaround time was 10 days. I was then asked to pay upfront. The cost to just shorten the dress, no other alterations, was $125. For that price I was expecting impeccable work. I didn't look at the dress when I went to go pick it up, which was my mistake, but I wouldn't have time to get it re-altered anywhere else anyway so whatever it was like I was stuck with. After looking at the dress altered, I noticed that they separated the two pieces of fabric for the double lining, shortened the inside fabric about 2 inches more than the outer fabric, never sewed them back together, and the stitch work on the outside of the dress looks like it was done by someone who has never used a sewing machine before. I mean just look at the pictures. And that's just the very front of my dress by the slit. Now I'm stuck with a dress that is not lined to the ground which will show through and look terrible, a dress that isn't even tailored to the same length on the outside (the back is longer than the front) and it looks terrible, and the slit is not straight but is now a triangle at the very bottom because he shortened the inner layer so much that he couldn't connect them at the bottom and looks terrible. The only reason why I went to this tailor was because of the other good reviews that he has, but I don't know what those people were talking about because I obviously did not get the same tailor. A $200 dress that I paid an additional $125 to get tailored is ruined, and I have no choice but to wear it. Absolutely disappointed and would not recommend to anyone else. read more

I live in Trumbull but will go here from now on. I worked at a dry cleaners many years ago and thought that customer focus had shifted in the industry over time. That is NOT the case. Without going into details I was in a bind. Madison helped me out and gave me OPTIONS, all of which were good. How rude and unhelpful!!!!! Had a simple straight hem job for a curtain and asked over the phone for a ballpark quote. Nope, can't do that, you have to come in. I should have know at that point to look elsewhere. Drove out of my way to find out he wanted more than buying the curtain for a simple hem!!!! I recently found Madison Cleaners and Tailors via Yelp. I have not had anything tailored in years so I didn't know where to go. After reading reviews of other tailors I chose Madison and I'm glad I did. When I walked in I was greeted by Jim who is a pleasant and friendly guy. Jim took my measurements for a suit jacket and pants that needed to be altered. The promised day was a Thursday, however I got an email stating that everything was ready on Tuesday, two days early. Thats a plus in my book. The alterations are perfect. As for the price I have nothing to compare to as it has been years since I've been to a tailor, but it seemed fair. I called Jim a week before my granddaughters high school prom and asked if he could do alterations to the dress in time ... there was no hesitation from him that I should bring the dress right in and he would do what he could to get it done in plenty of time. Having memorial day as part of his scheduling because he was going to be closed I felt he had gone above and beyond for us. He not only altered the dress pressed it and when I thought at home felt it needed to be touched up a little more and without a question he said "bring it back and I will do it again". I bring all my suits here to get dry cleaned. Time to time I'll also come here to get my suits tailors as well. Owner does a great job and which is why I don't go anywhere else. Yeah, his rates are alittle higher than other tailors/dry cleaners I've been to but you get what you pay for. read more
