I go to so many other breakfast/brunch places and I've asked them where they got their sourdough and they always say Madison Sourdough. Seating is plentiful unless it gets busy. You seat yourself so if you come with a group, try to have one person in your party snag a table first. I also tried their pastries (YUM). So many great choices to make. Popped in for a quick sweet snack after lunch. We got the chocolate chip cookie, chocolate mocha cookie, and the gingerbread cookie. The gingerbread cookie (which the very sweet employee threw in for free) was by far the best. Had a great molasses flavor and was super moist. The other were soft but pretty bland in flavor. My favorite is the savory Pepitas Polenta loaf! Their lunch and brunch options are all pretty solid, but their baked goods are amazing. The macarons and cakes are well made and never too sweet. A very comfortable, relaxing and hip place on Willy Street. Tastefully decorated with art, great music playing, and a wonderful outdoor seating area. They have delicious homemade breads and some of the best sandwiches that I have seen and a menu that will keep me coming back to try nearly all they offer. I had the avocado egg toast and it was fantastic, very thick slice of delicious toasted bread, spread with a generous amount of avacodo spread, and topped with a freshly cracked over easy egg....you're gonna need a fork and knife to eat this!. Checked out the cute cafe when we were in town for a funeral. And because my MIL works there. It's small and trendy. The menu is on a big board so after deciding what we wanted, we were greeted by a pleasant young woman who took our order. I got the pulled pork sandwich and my husband got eggs Benedict. My sandwich had a good flavor. It was on a brioche bun and topped with a sweeter coleslaw that was good. I believe the pickles they served were made in house and they were super yummy!!! My 1 complaint is that it was too juicy. It made the bun super soggy so I couldn't it eat like a sandwich. My husband liked his dish mostly. We heard great things about Madison Sourdough, from our wedding planner, when we were scrambling to have a wedding cake made. We reached out to MS for our wedding cake after seeing our date was available on their website. The process to get the cake started was not very intuitive. We decided to drive from Milwaukee to go in person and get some assistance in ordering and pay in advance. The gentlemen at the desk was pretty confused, disinterested when we needed help to order and seemed very blasé about trying to find us answers. He simply pointed across the room at some of the sliced cakes on display and said "what you see is it". After asking if we could place a down payment for the cake the gentlemen simply said he didn't know what to do and can ask the cake decorator, who luckily for us, happened to be in at that time. We observed the gentleman walking to the back and talking to a lady, we assumed was the decorator. She did not come to the front to talk to us - not even a glance when we saw the gentleman return. He told us we had to take care of this online or over the phone. The decorator did not even offer to come speak with us. We were essentially sent away with no answers. I am sure their food is great, but it was a pretty upsetting experience from willing customers to be turned away with no answers. read more

How much do I love Madison Sourdough? Welllllll, I went two days in a row and ordered the same thing both times. Yup. My first visit was on a sunny Wednesday morning, and I met the lovely Stacey L here for some breakfast and work on our laptops. The first thing I noticed was the gorgeous patio, but once I made my way inside, I was in awe of the amount of natural light that was pouring in. There's an adorable breakfast bar, tons of seating, and the vibe was happy and cheerful. It's going to be hard to ignore all of the pastries. But I believe in you - you can do it. If I have one recommendation, it's to order the Baker's Breakfast. I legit had it two mornings in a row and it was just so satisfying and well done! This gorgeous plate is loaded with shaved smoked ham, two eggs over easy, a side salad, a baguette, and European butter. Yeeeeeah. What could be a better start to the day?! The coffee was strong, the cookie I finally caved in and bought was delightful, and I'm just crazy about this place. I will 100% be returning on my next trip to Madison! read more

I highly highly recommend the eggs diablo (we also tried some other items like the sesame noodles, which were not as impressive). Pros: The eggs diablo is one of the most decadent brunch foods I have tasted, with a tangy sauce that you want to mop up with your crusty bread: I always gladly pay the extra dollar per slice to get an extra couple of slices to make sure I can finish my dish. Highly highly recommend. I am also a fan of of the chocolate layer expresso cake. When made fresh, it is so delicious and decadent. Definitely a treat once in awhile that I find myself craving. Cons: The times I have been here, service has been pretty awful, perhaps because the place is so crowded. Once, our party of 3 adults and 2 kids came by and ended up waiting about 1.5 hours for our food on an extremely busy Saturday (they forgot). They comped us with a small loaf of bread ($4), which was quickly devoured between five people, but it was really unacceptable for them to forget our order after we checked once every 20 minutes or so. Can't say enough good things about Madison Sourdogh and I've only been to the actual shop once. (We've bought their bread at the Willy Street Co-op before too.) Easily the best bread bakery in Madison. Madison Sourdough Company (MSCO) is the epitome of a craft/artisanal business as much of the flour used in their offerings is milled in-house. Their cafe boats a number of tasty breakfast and lunch options, but their bread is the true star of the show! The miche is phenomenal and worth every penny, if in stock. They even have a much milder sourdough used in their baguette and this is a great option for those that don't appreciate sourdough. Check out the cases for a number of pâtisserie options, cakes, cookies, etc. The almond croissant is one of my favorites! I would say, as a coffee snob, that you can definitely find a better cafe program at nearly any other cafe. But, their drinks are fine in a pinch. Hola, amigos. I know it's been a long time since I rapped at ya, but things have been pretty busy this summer... (shoutout to Jim Anchower, actually a great last name for a Yelp reviewer) Aaaaanyway... I can't believe I haven't reviewed Madison Sourdough until now. It's been a favorite of ours for years! My son and I popped in for brunch a week or so ago and it was great as usual...well, mostly. The reason we went was to get their amazing Door County cherry mascarpone french toast, only to find that it has been replaced on the menu with a blueberry compote with custard and walnuts version. We were disappointed that our favorite entree was gone, but we tried the new version, and were frankly underwhelmed. The custard wasn't evident, the compote was scant, and the walnuts were just that...large, straight-out-of-the bag walnut halves. The french toast itself was overdone and under-battered, which if you know Madison Sourdough bread, made it *very* hard to cut and eat. Meh. Please, please, we beg of you to bring back our favorite! It was outstanding! Four stars still because this was the only "miss" in years of consistent hits. Neuske's bacon, always perfectly prepared. Coffee always on point. Local ingredients, many healthy options, a bright, inviting interior where you can even watch the bakers at work through the glass window in the back seating area.
