It's no surprise that Über is preferred over taxis. Especially Madison Taxi. They have the stinkiest, dirtiest and most uncomfortable vehicles around. The dispatcher constantly blares. They mostly have crappy old Dodge caravans whose seats are not designed for adults. I als got a ride home from the Dane County Airport with Madison Taxi. Our flight was so late that there were no taxis at the airport and there was a line waiting for taxis so the guy said he could take 5 of us to where we needed to go. I thought we'd share the fare with 5 passengers instead of one. But we were each charged full price - $29 for me - I got dropped off first. Other than that the driver was nice, he did a good job driving in fresh snow and the cab was clean. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I was visiting Madison from out of town for a wedding and needed a cab back to my hotel. It was not going to be a far ride but it was pouring out so I called the cab. The dispatcher woman laughed at me and said "you know that's only like two blocks right?" You know there are other cab companies I can call if you don't want my business right? She took my information and said she dispatched the cab but it never came. It stopped raining so I ended up walking but the cab never came and no one ever called. I called back and asked to speak to the manager. The woman said the manager wasn't available but I could leave a message so I did and asked to be called back. It is now four days later and I haven't heard back from anyone. Not the right way to run a business if you ask me. I would highly recommend you go with another cab company. read more

Within 2 minutes of getting in the cab, the cab driver crashed the car into a curb and blew a tire. He got another cab to pick me up and even after cab driver one telling me I wouldn't get charged--I got charged. I called customer service to report the accident and ask for my money back and the customer service agent condescendingly asked if the 10 dollars I spent was too much money for me and that cab drivers don't like short drives anyway. Not to mention "Well you got to your destination didn't you?!" When I asked again if I could get my money back, he sarcastically replied "yeah, I'll be sure and get right on that". I doubt he reported the accident and no refund was given. Completely unprofessional and frankly pretty dangerous. This is not a safe company. Honestly, its worth downloading the Uber app. Would give 0 stars on this. read more

Not a good experience. The taxi started by being late. Then it was a 6 mile ride to the airport. Three other people from the hotel ended up in the taxi too. The taxi driver charged me $16 and the all the other 3 passengers $16 combined. ?How does that work? I recommend checking Uber. read more

Just moved to Madison. Scheduled a pick up on line, called to confirm morning of and still arrived 15 mins late. Gave them another shot back home from the airport, it's raining outside and I have luggage. The driver never got out of the car because he was eating (this is at 10am) Didn't help with my bags or even open the trunk. He just stared at me. I stuck my suitcases in the back seat with me. Hate this whole shared ride business, especially when they force it on you when you are the first one to get into the cab. The best part is where the drive waits around for more passengers. You would think you would save some bucks with the shared ride, but no. That is not the case for Madison Taxi - you just pay the full price, and wait out all the people to be dropped off. Union Cab at least lets you save a few bucks (just $2-3). They both are more for the driver making more money than the passenger saving a few bucks. After a very long 9 hr trip with a one year-old I took a Madison Taxi from the airport cab line. When I came out to the van I told the driver I would need to put my child's car seat in the van. I tried to quickly set my baby down and assemble the car seat to place in the van. I struggled to get the carseat installed quickly, and after a minute told the driver I would tip him extra (as I was still trying to quickly get the carseat installed). At this point he says, 'you know, you could just strap her in the (regular) car seat with a seat belt. We can't do this all day.' This exhausted momma was in real need of some help and good service and I was gravely disappointed. read more

DO NOT ride "Madison Taxi" transportation service. (the silver and blue car/van/cab) I took the cab many times. I was going home from the airport and the taxi driver kept charging me more on the meter. when i got to the campus area i usually get charge about $14 but with this cab the price was already over $20!!! and when I got off the meter said $26 but the taxi driver told me it was $27. I called to complain but the lady on the phone said she couldn't do anything. All i wanted to do is make sure NO one else get CHEATED like i did. no point to talk to the company if noone can do anything?! BAD SERVICE in the beginning to the end!!!! I visited Madison last week for training at the Epic campus. My first experience with Madison Taxi was good. My hotel had a mix up with buses going to the campus in the morning, and they had to call for a taxi to get the rest of us to training. The driver came quickly and got us to the campus on time. My next experience was not as good. I called for a taxi around 5:30 PM on 10/18 to pick me up at 6 PM to go downtown. The taxi driver did show up in a timely fashion, but when I told him where I needed to go, he said, where is that? I said, well, I'm not really sure, I'm from out of town. He picked up a tattered directory and pointed out a couple places, asking if that's where I was going. I said no, let me try to get it up on my phone's navigation. I couldn't, so I texted the girl I was meeting, and got directions from her. He said, oh, I know where that is, and we took off. After about a minute of driving, he turned off into some neighborhood, and said, now this isn't where I wanted to be. I pulled up directions on my phone to help him and we got back on track. About halfway through the ride, I realized he had a GPS/navigation system in the van, because he started punching the address in while he was driving! Now, why didn't he do that back at the hotel? Was he trying to drive the meter up? My last experience was the worst. I called ahead on 10/18 to have someone pick me up the next day 10/19 at 5:30 AM to take me to the airport for my flight home. I was thrilled when I walked into the lobby that morning, and the taxi driver was already there. He offered to put my luggage in the van, which I thought was very nice. As soon as I sat down, he said to me, "So...are you expecting a boy or a girl?" I was very tired and not really getting it, so I said, ..."excuse me?" He repeated himself and I got what he was getting at. I said, "No, I'm not pregnant, I guess I'm just FAT!" I could not believe how incredibly rude that question was. I actually have never been treated so rudely, and it takes a lot to render me speechless, but that definitely did it. I have had health problems this year and am currently taking medication that led to me putting on a lot of weight in a short amount of time, and I was incredibly offended and hurt by his question. I would have told him to let me out so I could call another taxi company, but I was in a hurry to catch a 6:50 AM flight. I was really hoping he would just stop talking to me, but he proceeded to tell me that he avoids bad areas of town and picking up black people because he is afraid of getting robbed. Again, I was floored. Who says things like that to people they don't know?? My husband could be black, my parents could be black, I could be adopting a black baby. He has no idea of my background or the type of person I am to be saying such incredibly offensive things to. He finished off by asking me about my political leanings, which again is truly none of his business. No, ACTUALLY he finished off by complaining that he was going to be taxed on my use of a check card to pay him when the ride was over. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! THIEVES!!! I was visiting Madison for the weekend and I left my phone in a Madison Taxi cab (my fault, I know). I realized it right away and used my friend's phone to call them and retrieve it. The dispatcher said she would contact the cab driver (Crystal) and get back to me. No response. I saw another Madison Taxi driver later in the evening and he was able to contact our driver and confirm that she indeed had the phone and would drop it off at my hotel. No luck (and my hotel was 5 minutes from Gilson St.). The next day I went to the Madison Taxi offices to pick up my phone. No luck. I encountered an extremely rude lady who indicated that she didn't know where my phone was and refused to call the driver to find out if she turned it in. I called the police. This prompted the Owner, Joe, to come out and assure me that they had found my phone but must have "put it in another safe or something". He indicated that he would find my phone and mail it to me. No luck. I called them every day after that to inquire about my phone. No one could even confirm that the driver had turned it in for two whole days. It took four days and numerous calls for the G.M., Rick, to finally tell me that he thinks they gave my phone to someone else retrieving a lost cell phone and he would track down whoever picked it up. Sounded kind of fishy to me. He later admitted that he didn't even have a name or phone number for the people who lost or retrieved a cell phone that morning (lost cell phones must have been a common occurrence that day). Lesson learned, do not leave any of your belongings in a Madison Taxi Cab! There are some people in this world who return lost items to their rightful owner when they are reported lost. Obviously none of these people work at Madison Taxi. The lack of professionalism that these people exhibited was astounding. They admitted that they recovered my lost phone and yet were unable to produce it the next day. Yes there are signs in the cabs that indicate they are not responsible for lost items, but that is not a license to steal from customers. It has been about two months since this happened and I have not received my phone in the mail or had any contact with the Madison Taxi Owner or staff. Word to the wise: if you make the mistake of riding in a Madison Taxi Cab, keep your belongings in your sight at all times! read more

The worst experience i have ever had. We ordered a taxi online for 715. 730 comes around and they still aren't here. So we call them and they didnt even have one on the way! The worse experience of my life, on the night of 03/23/ 2013 , the lady that picked up my husband and I was rude from the very beginning, she was upset from the moment we got inside her van, we thought it was ok for another couple to ride in the cab with as and apparently it is not the right think to do, since she kicked the girl out of the cab and was extremely rude to her and her partner. For some reason we decided to still take that taxi, and about 10 min. into the ride we brought up the subject of the couple that she didn't want in the cab and she lost it, she stopped the Van on park St. and decided to kicked us out as well... I clearly remember her screaming "I don't like people". I sure didn't feel safe and wouldn't want any one to experience this... luckily enough, another cab company saw us brought us home. All the one-star reviews are accurate- not sure where the 4 and 5 star reviews are coming from, but they're obviously paid-for. I only have used this cab once, and never again. Their dispatcher jobbed me on the route to my southwest side home from the airport. He told the cabbie to go through downtown and down Monroe St. to the beltline, and when I said that John Nolen to the beltline would be faster, he said "you can do that but it'll end up costing you 6 or 7 bucks more- trust me, I've been doing this for 30 years." Unfortunately, I did, and I paid a far higher fare for it- which was the idea all along, from their end. I should've trusted my gut, and I hope you trust yours after reading these reviews. I drove out with my daughter from Massachusetts to Wisconsin to help her set up an apartment before starting a new job. The car was staying with her, so I had booked a flight from Milwaukee back home. I had also booked a bus ticket from the UW campus to the Milwaukee airport and had planned to take a taxi from the apartment to the campus. I became quite alarmed reading the reviews of all the taxi services in the area: it looked to be a 'crap shoot' as to whether the taxi would arrive on time-or even if it would arrive at all. Madison taxi seemed to be the least poorly reviewed of the bunch and the only one that actually allowed me to prebook online, so I decided to chance it, allowing enough time so that, if they didn't show, I could call all the others and jump into the first one that appeared... I prebooked for an 11:30am pickup. At 20 past, I saw the taxi arrive (this despite the apartment development being new and on an unnamed road) The driver was a very pleasant semi-retired gentleman, who hopped out to assist me with luggage. During the ride we had a nice conversation and he recommended a reliable auto mechanic, at my request. My bus was departing at 1; he had me at the location by noon and pointed out exactly where the bus would pull in (good to know, as there was construction going on). It was an overall positive experience. Of course, one's experience may depend on the driver, time of day, etc. However, I read so many really disturbing reviews, I felt it important that someone hear about positive experiences as well. read more

I had a perfectly fine ride home to Fitchburg from downtown, with a friendly driver and an ok fare. It was during Freakfest so really it was just nice for my friends and I to find a cab within a reasonable amount of time. However, I noticed my phone was missing about half an hour after we got dropped off. I called the following morning and was told to call back later in the afternoon after second shift had started. I called back around 3 PM and was told to try again later, about 7 PM. Called back around 8 and a very angry dispatcher claimed he had told me to call the following Monday, and that I should NOT bother them again before then. Besides being treated like a nuisance for asking about something of value to me that I had left behind as a paying customer, I was not ok with being treated like I was also ignorant - I followed their instructions each time. It's Monday now, and I called back again only to have them say they have not located any phones matching my description but that they'll get ahold of me if they do. I'm not keeping my fingers crossed at this point. It's a shame that my driver was friendly and efficient while the home office was so blatantly rude and unconcerned. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE. I ordered for a taxi online to pick me up two days prior to the pick up date. It was supposed to come at 7:30 in the morning. At 7:40 they weren't there so I called and the lady that answered, answered as if I had just woken her up. She was not happy to talk to me and did not care about my concerns at all. She told me they were short drivers that day and had no idea when the cab was going to get there. First of all they should have called me as soon as they knew they were short so I could have called another company, secondly they should have been at the very least apologetic. I called other companies but my appointment was at 8:00 and it was a 20min drive and none of them could get me quickly enough on such short notice. I had to call and cancel my appointment with a very great psychiatrist that books out MONTHS in advance because the lack of consideration of this so-called business. Then they had the audacity to call me 50 minutes from the original pick-up time saying they were there. I told them I already missed my appointment but thanks and the cabbie hung up on me without even apologizing. I will NEVER be taking my business there EVER EVER AGAIN. read more
