I've gone to the toniest, most high priced salons. i've had color, and keratins done all over the place; it wasn't until i stumbled across Madison Taylor (yes i was actively looking for a new place) that i actually found true hair happiness. i came in with my hair in terrible shape, absolutely terrible. I had a keratin treatment, aond honestly, not one other salon did such a beautiful job. what makes it beautiful? my hair isn't flat. it isnt' dead it has body, bounce, shine, and is so easy to manage My color and cut are beautiful as well! i am complimented frequently, and i'm thrilled. The women working there are so friendly, professional, and make you feel like you're 'family'. The salon is clean, Covid safe, and I feel very comfortable going there. Just had my appointment today, and I'm as happy today, as i was the first time i came here. No more need to go into Manhattan, or any of the other salons on the Island that i would travel too FIVE STARS ! :) read more

I've been sitting on this review for a while because I haven't been ready to relive the experience... Back in April, I was 8 months pregnant and needed a haircut before the baby came knowing I wouldn't have time after. I have pretty fine hair that a keep at a medium length so it's not exactly my crowing glory, and so I'm pretty easy going with my hair and open to trying new places/things. So I made a last minute appointment at Madison Taylor salon and got an appointment for a haircut with Vinny. Upon sitting in Vinnys chair he didn't even look at my hair first before sending me to get washed. Fine. I come back and show him the picture of what I want and he immediately starts saying "oh no, that's much longer than you're hair now. (It was not- it was shorter with layers). We're going to have to go shorter than that." I told him do what you can but keep as much length as you can too being that I was 8 months pregnant and my face was a bowling ball. So vinny starts cutting away. And cutting. And cutting. And cutting. And I was getting anxiety but figured he knew was he was doing. WRONG. the end result was a chia pet of Kate Gosselin. I faked a smile (even the woman at the front desk was faking a smile when she asked how I liked it. It was ROUGH), then went to my car and sobbed. I have never cried about my hair in my entire life. But I sobbed. For a week. Maybe it was the hormones, maybe it was the fact that the back of my head looked like shingles on a house. But it was bad. The worst thing I've ever seen. 7 months of half up (hardly) half down hairstyles later, I'm still in the process of recovering both mentally and physically. Buyer beware. *i would not post this had vinny been friendly or kind- id feel too guilty. Seriously, I am not someone who lives to ruin people on Yelp (I think this is my first 1star review ever). But he was rude and cold **id post a pic of the aftermath but the results were too gross for me to have to scroll past in my camera roll so I deleted them. read more

I've been getting my hair cut at Madison Taylor Salon for the past 15 years. These wonderful women know me by name, even when I call on the phone, and ALWAYS remember what we talked about during my last visit. Geri has seen me through so many hairstyles, both long and short. She's helped me survive my teenage years, and soon she'll be helping me look amazing for my wedding. I've had my color done here, I've had cuts, and have been very happy with everything. They've always been accommodating about last-minute bang trims and color tweaks, and always used to fit me in on short notice when I came home from college for the weekend. I now drive here from Astoria for a haircut, because the peace of mind - KNOWING that I will leave the chair looking amazing - is worth it. My entire family comes here, and now my fiancee does too. Just moved to the area and have been in need to find a good salon. Boy did I hit the jackpot today'. I walked in and needed a trim and this place was just what I was looking for. Very clean and glamorous but also a warm and pleasant ambiance. The owner Barbara and the beautician Jamie were absolutely lovely. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better for a rinse, blow dry, and trim was excellent for not a bad price at all. Loved it and am so happy I found my new regular salon =] read more

I have had my hair done at all the top salons in Manhattan and Long Island. I could NEVER get that exact buttery blond, natural look I wanted and I also have naturally fine, curly hair which is hard to work with. I found MT about 9 months ago and I have had a complete transformation in my hair's health, look and feel. When I walk in for my monthly appointment for color, I walk out feeling fabulous! Everyone from the shampoo girls to the colourists and owners are the friendliest, most professional group of people I've encountered. I cannot say enough positive things about this salon. It is small and often crowded but time flies as you chat with the friendly staff. My overall hair health has improved and my style is perfect......love the colour! I have highlights now - and lowlights thrown in to add movement and that natural look. I used to go to the big name salon in Long Beach where I live and pay double for a hard sales push (you will NOT get ANY of that here) and no one listened to what *I* wanted. At MT, you will get what YOU want - sure you will get suggestions, but you will not ask for a trim and walk out with a totally different look then you asked for. Products are top notch and I've discovered some I never heard of (and I am a product junkie!) I will never go anywhere else!!!!!!! From top to bottom this is the BEST salon I've ever been to. I love my high and low lights..........I look like a natural blonde just like my children ;-p I've gotten darker as time has gone on and now I have dark root and they get that brassy look out and I have a creamy, buttery color I never thought I could get ! I love the way you can see the darker and lighter shades of blond.....I never imagined I'd love my hair ! NOTE: Edited to add that Viv my usual colourist, was so concerned that my hair be in good shape I received a call to come in for a free conditioning treatment before any more highlighting be done (30 dollar Olaplex tx)......I actually purchased the home upkeep Olaplex to do once a week in between treatments. I live at the beach and it's hard to keep that highlighted blond hair healthy and silky without breakage or dulling ! love MTS !!!!!!!!!! read more

I received a gift certificate at a charity event and used it Tuesday for a haircut. The woman at the front desk was very helpful and recommended a new hair product. Cindy Ann gave me a great hair cut my wife was very happy with the finished product! I found a parking spot in the back of the place and even grabbed a Starbucks after my haircut. She knows exactly how to highlight my hair to make me look my best and spends extra time with me if need be to make sure the outcome is just perfect. So I walked in since the door was open and there weren't any hours posted. The cleaning lady was there and super sweet! I asked about getting a shampoo blows dry iron. She said it's ok to wait for the stylists to get there to ask them about pricing. When they got there that's when it all went downhill. I asked how much for the service and they said $50. $50? So I ask what products they use, because if I'm going to pay $50 for a blow out & style, I want to make sure they are using products that I like, especially since I'm a stylist and I'm kind of particular about what brands I use - I've tried various ones and I know what works for my hair. Why was this woman's answer "uh, shampoo?" So I left. That was a terrible answer and it really did t make me feel confident that they could even preform the service correctly, and frankly it struck me as snotty. I have joico colors on my hair and I'd like them to last, so I'd like to know what they would be putting on my hair before I get my hair styled. Also I would hope that they would be using more products than shampoo. the only reason I even gave 2 stars is because the cleaning lady was so sweet & professional. read more
