I was big on mad Mac's before but things have change and not for the best. My coworkers and I often meet there for drinks at least once a week. My family and I like going there for dinner. Went there yesterday with the family for dinner. We were seated in the back area because the front was full. Once seated, our waitress came over to get our drink orders. I had a beer, my son gave soda and my wife had colored water ! ( mixed drink that was so diluted ) ! After the drinks, she took our food orders. We sat there for over 45 mins !!!!we saw our waitress walk by a couple of times by couldn't get her attention to tell her about my wife's watered down drink full of ice ! There were others there and overheard several others talk about how long they've been there ( over an hour ) and still haven't received their food orders. Finally, we just could wait anymore and my wife finally tracked the waitress or hostess down and ask for our bill. Over 45 mins and all I had was 1 beers which I drank in 5 mins after being seated and that was about it. Don't see us going back there again. I try not to be too hard to judge during COVID but I expected a bit more from than our visit. It was Saturday night and the place was empty. Reception was pleasant but it took over 5 mins to be greeted at the table and another 5-10 to get the drinks. Food was definitely subpar and dry. We ordered the chicken parm bites bc we thought they would be interesting but not impressed at all. Also ordered a party sampler and one of the appetizers (potstickers) were missing. Boneless wings were small, dry and mediocre. We also tried the pot roast egg rolls. They were ok. Best part was the pomegranate margarita i ordered. Maybe will try again in a few months. read more

Not bad! A friend and I got there on a Monday when mac&cheese is 1/2 off. The portions are giant and filling. I got buffalo chicken which has a "secret" sauce that was very sweet - the dish would definitely be better without it. My friend got Mad mac (with bacon) that tasted pretty good. Reviewing after two visits. My son works here in the summer and we always grab food here at least once. It is a typical bar, but they have set themselves apart by featuring gourmet Mac and Cheese, ahead of typical bar food. They also have amazing burgers (I think thursday is half price night) and salads. Don't let the environment fool you. This is a good place to get food and the drinks aren't bad either. If I had any complaint at all, I'd say they overcook their macaroni, but the great flavors totally make up for it. read more

Surprised my fiancé for her birthday by taking her here. It was my first time as well, but they had a really good looking menu with lots of different types of mac's and other types of subs and sandwiches. We were not disappointed by this choice! After much contemplation on which mac to get, I decided to get the 6 cheese mac with bacon and barbecue sauce which was DELICIOUS! My fiancé got the cheesesteak mac which she loved as well! We also got nachos as an appetizer which tasted really good. The atmosphere here was also cool, we sat out on the deck and they had live music. Our waitress was also nice and attentive, and got our food out quick. Once those entrées hit the table they were gone in minutes. The servers were incredibly nice and helpful with any problems we had. I looked around and couldn't find a single spec of grime while I was here, also the bathrooms were clean with TV's. We came here after going to Go Ape nearby. We aren't from the area and it was our first time. We came while they were having a private party but still had great service. We sat ourselves at one of the outdoor covered tables and our waitress was great. We all ordered too much food but it was a good experience. We have tons of leftovers too! My French Onion Mac wasn't my favorite, needed a bit more flavor in the cheese sauce, but two others that ordered the Buffalo Mac raved about it, especially the Buffalo sauce and chicken. Not the worst...not the best. This visit was my first time trying Mad Mac's. I got the Cajun Mac & Cheese and a Chicken sandwich via a Grubhub takeout order. First notable difference was the chicken sandwich looked nothing like the stock photo on Grubhub. This played a big role in the order because I wouldn't have gotten it otherwise. Another note: It comes with raw onions. Next, the mac. I expected a different taste, paricularly Old Bay seasoning. It was more of a taste of several blended cheeses than anything else. It honestly didn't even need anything else -including meat. Yet, there was ample shrimp and crab meat in there. That was a plus. Nonetheless, the staff is incredibly nice. We brought my mom here for her birthday in November. It seems like they are finally getting their act together, service has been much better lately. Of course, I got the over-proofed margarita, I love that thing. We started with fried mac and cheese balls, so good! We also had pan-fried dumplings. My mother got a burger cooked like an old shoe just how she likes it, and we got Mac and Cheese which is what we came for. I had the shrimp and crab, and whatever RJ's was had bacon in it. Wow, after a few weeks of sad delivery MM's knocked it out of the park. We ordered an array of small bites for debate night and a couple sweet treats. Presentation was amazing, and we who order a lot of delivery KNOW what good presentation means. Food isn't sliding out of the container into the delivery bag causing it to blow out in the bottom before you get to the kitchen. It also means it was actually thought out. The chicken parm bites were outstanding and a great addition to their menu. Not everyone wants the pasta! The tacos were stuffed and so flavorful. Ever forget you were on a quest for something and then suddenly stumble upon it? Enter Mad Mac's. Let me set the stage for you. Friday night, on my way to DC. Stopped in right as the music started - good live music. I accepted the upfront warning from the hostess that the kitchen was backed up - as long as you've warned me, can't fault you. Good tap list, and the place was very popular but not overwhelmingly loud. I tried the chef's sampler just to see what he would throw at me - four cheese, buffalo, and Mad. Sat back, enjoyed my Yard's porter, and reasoned that if this place is good, it'd be the first great affordable restaurant in Delaware. We'll see. Within a half hour, as promised, the trio arrived. I started with the four cheese to establish a baseline. Are. You. Kidding. Me. Since the demise of Mac Attack there was no good mac and cheese fix in my area. Turns out I had to drive 2 hours away. Ye gods of cream and dairy, if cheese is a sin, this is the ultimate vice. If I wrote the dictionary, I'd have to invent a new superlative form of "beyond ooey-gooiest". I could taste each cheese and they came together to sing hosannas in four part harmony. On to the buffalo mac. As others have said, the sauce is sweet, not hot or tangy. Turns out that exactly what works with the mac and cheese. The sweet and the creamy and the not too salty and the indescribable perfection of the mac... I'm trying here, but indescribable means indescribable. The lone piece of chicken on top was a little odd, but there was plenty of tasty chicken throughout. Okay, on to Mad Mac. The namesake. The flagship. The true test. Aces. First of all, this is not dollar store bacon. This isn't cheap and greasy. This is solid and smoky. The slab of bacon on top is enticingly fresh and rich, chewy and meaty, not too salty. (That's a theme here, along with überoogooness. That's my proposal for the new word.) There's just enough BBQ sauce to lend complementary flavor without overpowering anything else in the dish. Throughout it all, the same perfect mac. I now have to stop here every time I head to Maryland. Mandatory. It's right off the highway so now you will too. I will drive two hours for this and then turn around and come home. Great job, Mac. This place is suppose to be incredible their macncheese and it is! We got the mad mac buffalo chicken and it arrived in a iron cast skillet. The cheese with so gooey and liquidy, and consistent. The macaroni was cooked to perfection. We ordered traditional 1 lb wings with the secret sauce. It came about 10 wings with honey mustard, French, and blue cheese. It tastes so good! The food was mediocre at best. The ambiance was a bit odd. Was hard to tell what the identity of the place was based on the decor and arrangement. The biggest problem was the service. The service at the tables seemed slow for the volume of people that were seated to dine. After we ate we moved to sit at the bar and that is where things really went downhill. It was clear that unless you were a regular at this establishment, the bar staff did not pay much attention to you at all. My wife had to remind the bartender (female) twice that she still had not received her drink as she sat and watched the bar tender serve what appeared to be regulars and cater to their every need even though my wife put her drink order in before they did. This particular bartender appeared and smelled as if she was completely stoned. We had planned on staying for several drinks but the service at the bar was so slow and biased towards "regulars" (and the seats at the bar were a little less than half filled) that we closed out our tab early and went elsewhere to finish out evening. In all, I wouldn't recommend this place unless your options were very limited, which in that area of Newark, they are not. read more
