I've stopped into Madras Grill a number of times, every time I'm welcomed with arms wide open from the manager like family, and every time I ask him for his advice on what to order. I always order food to go and his recommendations are always top notch. I am not an Indian food connoisseur so I put my trust into his tips. My most recent visit I had simply ordered rice, naan, and something spicy with goat. I get home and everything was excellent! If you want Indian food and not so sure what to order I strongly recommend stopping in and putting your trust in their hands. You will not be disappointed! read more

We order several dishes, including a basket of bread, they were not very different from each other, the rice was not authenticity Indian cooked. The sauce for nag was darker unlike other restaurants and a little heavier. The service was from bad to mediocre. Felt as if the waiter was doing me a favor. BEWARE!! BEWARE!! Food Contamination and Food Poisoning Warning!! I went out to the lunch buffet with my Mom and Brother. The restaurant itself looks dirty and grotesque. The tables were dirty, glasses were foggy, and rugs stained a color where honestly you would have thought a dead body would have laid. Let me cut to the chase - My Mom, brother, and I all got extreme food poisoning for over 4 days to the point we had to get IV at the ER. I lost almost 10 lbs in this time frame and I am already fit, healthy dude! This food is contaminated and at high risk for bacteria. Trust me - I was the most sick I have almost been in my whole life. NOT WORTH IT!!! If you also have fallen sick after eating here please contact that MA Department of Health. I had been to their Weekend buffet on Sunday. They have a good variety of items which includes both North & South indian. They have some south indian items which is hard to find in other Indian buffet places like vadacurry & chicken 65. Their chicken biryani and chicken 65 were awesome and the fluffy pooris were also good. They had a nice desert of Gulab Jamun wrapped in puff pastry which tasted pretty good and have never tried it anywhere else. read more

My friend and I came here last minute to get an Indian food fix. It was about an hour until closing time but the food was deliciously fresh when it came out. Food We ordered kheema naan, gongora chicken, and chicken vindaloo. Both of the entrees were listed as extra spicy on the menu, but we're brave souls so a little adventure was in order. When the waiter asked if we wanted it "spicy spicy" or "regular spicy", we were a little less courageous and went with normal spicy...AND BOY DID IT BURN. I was sniffling, and my friend was sweating but it was so good. The vindaloo had a creamy, tangy, spicy flavor. The gongora chicken was a little bit saltier in taste and had much more of an herbal spice to it. The kheema naan was okay, didn't really taste much of it with all the other spicy things going on. I think we could have saved a couple bucks and went with plain naan. Oh, the food is served family style. Atmosphere The establishment is very deserving of fine dining, but does have imperfections here and there that could use touch-ups. Music and lighting is set just right. Not too crowded, not too empty. Bar looks nice and has a big enough TV so everyone can watch. Staff Waitstaff could use a little basic training in dining. Normally eye contact or stacked plates would signal attention, but you kind of have to raise your hand here. There were only two parties of two in here, can't imagine a lunch/dinner rush. Final Thoughts I'd probably come back again to try what appears to be a buffet, and I'll make sure to be extra cautious and heed their spiciness warnings. read more

Great little place in suburbia! I've been here for lunch and dinner a few times and both were enjoyable experiences if a little too long. The wait staff is very friendly and polite yet not very up to date on proper hosting/waiting rules. The food is great! I've tried a little bit of every category food on the menu and everything is brilliant! I love almost everything offered and the staff is quick to point out what will and won't go with what you're looking for. They are also very considerate about the spice levels in food, which my friends and I really appreciate. The wait time between order and getting the food is a little too long but is made tolerable by a constant flow of appetizers and house specials. The parking is supremely limited so there can be a bit of a walk involved but the seating is immediate most of the times (lunch buffets are very popular and thus an exception) Affordable and with great tasting food. However, I consider a better take out place than one to eat in. read more

It was a royal waste of money last two times we dined here. We gave it one more chance after the previous experience. Fish fry was sized in half inch pieces!!! There are some aesthetics in food and its preparation, totally missing. Chicken 65 was very funny, very bland and no taste. We all know how salna tastes like, Madurai salna!! We ordered it in excitement and all we got was a google recipe veg khorma. Chicken briyani, they bring shame to it. No taste at all. I ate here for the first time about a month ago with coworkers. Though somewhat small inside, they had a long row of buffet tables with a great variety of dishes. Tikka masala, biryani, tandoori chicken, both mild and super hot dishes, and everything was delicious! When it's busy at lunch, the buffet line queues the length of the restaurant, making it feel smaller and crowded. The staff was very nice but a little on the slow side. Empty dishes were not picked up unless we flagged someone down. Though located in a huge strip mall with lots of parking, you are competing with patrons for the other restaurants and shops - I had to park at the opposite end and walk the length of the mall (Madras is on the far end). Seems to be a busy area. If you get a chance, try the mango lassi here. It's smooth and sweet and oh so yummy! read more

We went to this place on Tuesday night for dinner. Very quite because of weekday but there were three families enjoying their dinner over there. The waiter/host is very knowledgeable about the dishes and he was very much upfront on what we would like and what we wouldn't. He was very much accommodating to our needs. Ambiance was also nice and music was not too loud which I liked. About food: App that we ordered (Gobhi 65) was amazing. Never had this tasteful appetizer anywhere before. Out entrees were also nice. My friends and I had a very fulfilling lunch in the afternoon today at Madras Grill. I wanted to come here since a few months after a couple of friends recommended that they have excellent Indian style fish. And we were not disappointed. We took the lunch buffet, and ordered Fish Koliwada in addition to that. The buffet had some not so common dishes such as bitter gourd (AMAZING - I can't believe I am saying this for bitter gourd curry), which was very refreshing. The best stuff from what we tried: Fish Koliwada - a fried tilapia appetizer. the South Indian dishes in the buffet - Medu Wada, Sambar, Rassam. The best of them all - Appams. Mutton curry which was garnished with potato fries - yummy! My friends were all over the laccha paratha :) I could have easily given Madras Grill 5 stars, except that the service could have been better. I was waiting for silverware for 15 minutes, and finally got it after asking for a couple of times. The chapatis took a long time to come out as well. Other than that, the food was excellent and we would be visiting again very soon! read more

A nice hidden gem! Went for dinner, and was pleasantly surprised. Also my wife's introduction to Indian cuisine, and she is now a fan! For appetizers we had the Mumbai Ragda Patties and the Vegetable Samosas. Both were very good and a nice start to the meal. And I'm not sure what the bread they put out complimentary was, but it was quite good - I would compare it to seasoned nacho chips... but WAY BETTER! For dinner I had Chicken Tikka Masala, and my wife had the Chicken Saag. Both were delicious! Seasoning was great, the portions were just right. We also had a side of Naan which was excellent. Came here at lunch time with colleagues for the lunch buffet. There are 12 trays for dishes, some salad and 2 sweet deserts. Over all taste are very nice. A little bit description on the buffet table card would help people understand what's in each dish. Luckily one of my colleague is Indian so he explained what's in each dish to me. Weekday lunch time gets crowded after 12 as there are few high-tech companies near by and lots of people come in groups. We got there before 12 to avoid the waiting line. Don't forget to ask for the Dosa as it's not on the buffet but waiter will bring you some as you ask. read more

Mmmm....this place was REALLY good! My wife bought into a Groupon which got her $35 for $17 so we decided to check it out. We came here the night before Hurricane Irene hit so it wasn't very busy. Here's what we ordered: Chicken Lollypop, Vegetable Chilli Fry, Lamb Vindaloo (hot), Chili fish, garlic naan and basmati rice. We ordered the chicken lolly pops for my son who's 5 and doesn't have any tolerance to spicy foods but I guess there was just a bit of chilli in the chicken that he couldn't stomach it. So the search goes on for a kid friendly Indian cuisine :-( the lolly pops were very good though. We also got the vegetable chilli fry for an appetizer and I think it was my favorite dish. Thinking back now, I would've just ordered the chilli fry with basmati rice and called it dinner :-) I asked for the lamb vindaloo to be hot but not extremely hot. The waiter said they have not-hot, mild, hot and extra hot. I opted for 'hot' but I think they took one look at us and toned it down to mild. It wasn't hot at all and barely made me sweat. My wife, who got the chilli fish, thought it was pretty hot though but I actually thought her dish was spicier than mine. Go figure! The chilli fish and lamb vindaloo were very good nonetheless. The waiters there were very friendly and the food came out in a reasonably short amount of time. My wife and I will definitely come back here to try their lunch buffet very soon. My husband and love Indian food. There is a place at the other end of town that's pretty good but we are always looking for something new. We ordered out due to the torrential down pours we had. The gentleman on the end of the phone was very helpful. We got Chicken Samosa, Garlic Naan, that were very tasty. We also ordered Paneer Kulcha/Cheese Naan, it was very tasty but I didn't see or taste anything like the cheese I have had in other dishes...still I would order it again(hubby wasn't thrilled). We had Lamb Vinadaloo, it was great, very hot as expected. Chicken Tikka Masala, that we asked to have medium hot...it was very tasty but hotter then my idea of medium as was the Jhinga Bhuna/Kaddhai Shrimp. This place is a great find. We went on a Sunday night, and it wasn't too busy. I think that a lot of people don't know about this place! Our group ordered the "Chicken Lolly Pops", "Mirapakaya Kodi Kura" (spicy Andra chicken curry), "Chili Chicken", Naan, "Mutton Kothu Paratha", and a Lychee Lassi. The Chicken Lollypops needed a bit more salt, but my daughter enjoyed eating it. They were small in size, so it would've been nice if they had more than 5 on a plate. We asked for 'medium spicy', and it wasn't spicy at all. The Mirapakaya Kodi Kura was very spicy and flavorful. If you can handle the heat, go for this. The Chili Chicken wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. But it was decent. No need to comment on the naan. Now, the Mutton Kothu Paratha. Wow. I'd never heard of this dish, and after spending nearly 15 minutes perusing the menu and not being able to decide on what to get, the owner (?) suggested this item. I couldn't have been happier. It was spicy, flavorful, and oh, so good. It was so good that I made a mission of replicating it at home. :) The Lychee Lassi was a hit. They had some interesting flavors, and this one was, again, recommended by the owner. It was so good that my little daughter snagged it, and we had to order another one. :) The Madras Grill offers more South Indian dishes than usual (obviously, as per their name, one would guess that), and the flavors are true to India, so don't hesitate to try it out. If they maintain their level of service and the quality of their dishes, they should be great competition for The Pongal. read more

My fiance and I found this place via Groupon. Boy was it a great find. The samosas and naan were so delicious. The sauces had the perfect amount of spice and the lamb was very tender. Snagged the $35 for $17 Groupon, so I ventured here for a dinner date. Started the dinner with a creamy mango lassi and vegetable samosas for an appetizer - both yummy. Got the chicken vindaloo and lamb rogan josh for an entree. Each entree came with a generous portion of basmati rice, which was nice. Both dishes were flavorful and in my opinion on par or better than most Indian places in the area. Best part! After the Groupon, the bill came to $7. Lunch buffet is great as well. I feel like it has a few more options than most other Indian buffets in the area and everything tasted great. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the setup. It wasn't appealing. They have a large serving spoon for each dish which are held in large metal serving dishes (not the right word) that you can open and close. The linens were super messy from everyone placing the large spoons on small dishes in front of the large metal serving dishes. Went to lunch here the day before Thanksgiving. had their buffet, decent spread. They had a few dishes that were new to me. Chili flavored chick pea deep fried veggies, heeeey!! Those were tasty. There were a couple of other curries that were decent but can't remember the names. I was excited when my mother in law told me they bring out complimentary dosas. She said they usually come out right away but that day we noticed other tables getting their's first. We asked about them a couple of times only to be told in a hastily manner 'yea they are coming.' Our third time the guy noticed we were pretty much done eating and he said he'd go check on them. Madras could easily become my favorite local Indian restaurant. They are able to accommodate your spice level. They asked me how hot I would like my Chicken Tikka Masala the first time around I said Medium. It was tasty as well as spicy; the room warmed up nicely. The second time I asked for mild. Mild was like what most American based Indian restaurant serve. Since they make their food to order you will be able to request the spice level you like. It can be a pricy lunch. However it is enough for 2-3 healthy portion meals. I will definitely go back. I am interested in trying their dine in buffet. read more

Was in Boston for business. Just drove to this place since friends mentioned that its a new place. Tried a handful of authentic dishes since friends wanted to try different items the lamb samosa and chicken chilli (it was called different.something like milaghu) were awesome The mutton chops and goat pepper fry were the highlights. Oh my God..i even packed an order for late night hotel room snacks :) The mixed grill had all kinds of meat from their clay oven. There were some vegeterian dishes we tried. we never had them anywhere else. the manager and waiting staff mentioned that they were authentic south indian dishes. We even tried some dishes (chicken) that had some names of Indian places (the server recommended). we asked them to be spicier. Man they didnt disappoint. Kudos to the dude who served us The service was excellent. The manager/owner asked for feedback and he was explaining how some of the dishes were formulated by his wife and mom. The taste and the presentation proved that it was a true statement and not just a PR thing Overall the ambience was great (different decors), service was excellent (timing of app, entres, deserts, coffee was good) and manager/owner seem to care what went on the plates and what customers ate.
