Consistently good quality with occasional flops... The Double-Cut Mongolian Pork Chop entree is wonderful - garlic mashed potatoes and sweet and sour red cabbage go deliciously well with the medium pork chop. The chop is good size and the meal is quite big. The only problem is consistency: I ordered this twice - second time because the first time was so amazing. The pork chop came out over grilled with spots that I had to cut off, because they were inedible, before finally sending the whole dish back. So, watch out, when executed well, this dish is delicious. Tuna Tataki has this amazing wasabi-based light dressing that's creamy and delicious. The seaweed salad is a perfect take on making this take on Tataki different from what you typically find in restaurants. I am not too sure about the lump crab - I do not think it adds very much flavor or complements the rest of the components. Goat Cheese Brûlée dip is very delicious, although you have to be the one who likes garlic, goat cheese and balsamic flavors. I love their French Sliders - but again if you do not like truffle flavor, then the truffle aioli, which in my opinion makes this appetizer so special, might be a turn off. Chicago Style Spinach and Artichoke Dip is a very classic take on a classic appetizer - delicious and one cannot go wrong with it. Fried Calamari - I only had them once, and followed sending this appetizer back with the following feedback: too salty, calamari bits were so thin - you could mistake them for onion rings, the breeding was very thick and salty. Overall, as much as I love fried calamari, this was just impossible to eat. Asian Salmon is a very tasty, fairly healthy option. Maybe it has just a bit too much mashed potato and the last time I ordered it I felt that the teriyaki sauce was a bit on the sweeter side and it kind of overshadowed the salmon flavor and the fresh sautéed veggies. Overall, a good seafood entree you cannot go wrong with. I've also tried the Hickory Burger and Filet Mignon - both are delicious well-designed entrees with balanced good flavors that you cannot go wrong with. read more

Been here a few times and I decided to finally review this place. Great food and atmosphere. It can sometimes be a little loud, but the decor is really nice and it is always very clean here! If you go and there's a long wait (and you're open to it) sit in the bar area. Service is just as great and you can bypass the wait. Every time I've eaten here, the food had been delicious. Ask for their bread and butter starter if you don't get it. The butter is sweet and it tastes very yummy on the warm rolls. As far as dinner entrees, thumbs up for their Asian Salmon dish! Our second visit we have a family of 5 (3 younger ones) and sit at the bar tables (there was a wait in the restaurant). We put in our drink orders, apps and kids food. Drinks take about 15 to 20 minutes. Food over 40 minutes. We never got around to ordering entrees. Kids done by then. The wings where below average. My son loved his burger. Some nice beers on tap. The purpose of today's review is to pat Madrone's on the back for how far they've come. First, I think that from the decor to the menu, this place has an identity crisis. Is it a lodge? Is it a winery? Or just a classy bar? The prices are also not reflected in the decor. I can never decide what to wear there. But that doesn't detract from the quality of the food. I am a huge fan of the filet tips. I wish they came with a salad and there are FAR too many mashed potatoes, but the dish is really excellent. On to the service: It has drastically improved since they opened the restaurant. The first time I ever went to Madrone's, I was convinced that I would never be back. It was that bad. Since then, they've hired a younger crowd that seems to be more on top of things. You know how you're sometimes afraid to try a new place because you're usually disappointed and mad at yourself that you didn't go to your go-to? This place helped me with my new restaurant trust issues. Everything about the experience was superb! We put our name in on a Friday night and were told there was going to be about a 30 minute wait for two, which is not bad at all in my opinion. The place was busy, but everyone seemed on top of their game. We ended up snagging a few spots at the bar and decided to eat there instead. First of all, the bar staff is incredible. So accommodating, friendly, and efficient! Our drinks were never empty and they made really good food suggestions. We tried the wings, which were definitely good, but not earth-shattering. My husband liked them more than I did. He'd order them again, but I think I'd skip it in order to have room next time for some of desserts that look and sound amazing. Hubs had the ribeye which was a HUGE cut of cow on a plate. They cooked it perfectly, and paired it with a delicious baked potato and roasted mushrooms. I barely got a bite he was enjoying it so much! I ordered the marinated grilled filet medallions which came on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes, spinach, corn, and mushrooms, all kind of mixed together in a spicy(ish) cream sauce. OUT OF THIS WORLD. So, so good, and the portion was huge, so I had a sizable lunch the next day as well. 5/5 stars would eat again. We didn't have room for dessert, but I plan on picking my next entree based on getting a dessert afterwards. Sad, I know. But the cheesecake looked amazeballs. Don't judge. I ordered Shrimp & Grits and appetizer of Fried Calamari with Onion. Wife ordered Steak Fillet. Calamari should have been advertised as Onion Rings with some Calamari. Good tasting but 85% onion strips. Shrimp and Grits not good at all. Very heavy gravy over the food. Killed the taste of the shrimp and sausage. Could not finish. Wife loved steak. Perfectly done with a baked potato. House salad with her meal was exceptionally good. Go with their steaks. I would not take a chance with anything else unless other Yelpers recommenced. I like the food but I think I'm going to give up on coming here. I have a family of 7. Every time I call ahead to make a reservation or to be put on their wait list, they cannot accommodate us. We have to show up and wait, maybe hours. I have a 4 yo. I cannot wait hours. Their policy is that for families larger that 6, they will not take a reservation for you because they do not want to make patrons who are already there waiting mad for keeping a table open for you since you planned ahead. I have a family of 7. I will always have a family of 7. If I wanted "come as I am" seating, I would go to McDonald's or Burger King. I thought this place was better than that. Apparently not. This policy is only in effect on Friday Saturday and Sunday. They do not want large parties of people coming to their restaurant on weekends or for you to let them know in advance that you have a large party coming to their restaurant to eat on a busy day. They want it to be a surprise. They have done it this way for years and have no intention of accommodating large parties of people on weekends. They have more than enough business to ignore this niche. So do not come here if you are cursed with a large family on weekends. They discriminate. They will hold a table for you if you have 6 people or less, but if you have a party of 10 on a Saturday night, this is not the place for you. They cannot accommodate you. They do not want the repeat business of a family of 7. You'll have to fill up the waiting area with your large party and screaming children and wait until enough people leave to be seated. read more

My son ordered a French toast sandwich, and it had about half a pound of meat on it. (He's about 6 foot 2 and can normally pack it away, but he had to take half of this dish home for later.) Our friends ordered one for the steaks (sorry I do not recall which one) and the Grilled Portobellos & Warm Goat Cheese. The Grilled Portobellos & Warm Goat Cheese came out missing the main part of the entree (the pasta). The food was delicious and they were decent sized portions! For our main course, we each had the blackened sea scallop risotto with crab, shrimp and lobster. It was absolutely incredible and worth every penny. Fish Tacos were California worthy, Thai Salad fresh and flavorful, Goat Cheese Brulee a most excellent spin on a cheese dip. Even the steamed vegetables had garlic and butter to proverbially kick up a notch an otherwise predictable side. Oh, and tap local craft beer like Flying Dog St Eadman Abbey does not hurt at all. I enjoy this restaurant but I have to say that the customer service and reservation process is a hot mess, especially if you have a young child/toddler. I am writing this review because of two specific situations which have drove me to do so. The first was I made reservations under 4 people not thinking I should state i had a toddler with me. They continued to seat us at a table which a high chair couldn't be used and we had to wait an additional 20 mins, mind you I had reservations. Then come to find out the time to get seated took so long was because they only had two, TWO highchairs for the entire restaurant. I let this situation slide because I figured fine, I didn't state i needed a high chair for our reservation. Second incident happened just this past Sunday. I called and made sure that I made the reservation with the the knowledge of needing a high chair. Well once again they suggest if we would rather have a table with a booster seat In case, mind you it's been 20 mins past my reservation. Needless to say I left with my party. I wouldn't be surprised if once again we were waiting for a table because they only have two high chairs and they were being used. Absolutely ridiculous. read more
