I've been here a few times now and everything I've tried has been great. The spinach and feta pocket was so good, and the split pea soup was honestly one of the best I've had. The breakfast sandwich was delicious too, and the coffee was excellent. They have an impressive selection of fresh bread, pastries & sandwiches. What really stood out to me was how organized everything seemed. Even when they're busy, the staff works quickly and efficiently, and you can see people constantly baking and preparing food behind the counter. It's clear they take pride in what they do. It's not the type of spot where I would bring a computer and get work done because the vibe is definitely a busier one. I loved everything about this bakery, I wish I would've visited sooner! We went at 11am on a Sunday, the line was not too long. I just wanted one of each on the menu! Finally I settled for a chick pea harissa sandwich on multi grain sourdough, it was amazing!! I also took a loaf home. Came back here again mid morning on Sunday and there was a line out the door. This is obviously a very popular local place and J love it here too! I ordered the smoked salmon quiche today it it was really good. The flavor was delicious, the filling was creamy (I don't know what cheese they used but it was very smooth and creamy) and the crust was flaky and melt in your mouth texture. I will say the piece was a little small but for the price J paid ($9) I still thought it was a good deal. My friend also ordered the smoked salmon sandwich and the croissant. The croissant was supper puffy and flaky! People are still amazingly happy and kind despite the huge rush of people that would easily make anyone stressed to push drink and orders out on time. Anytime I'm in Coral Gables, I make it a point to stop by this bakery. It never disappoints. My go-to is the egg sandwich, no bacon, sub tomato. The poppy seed bun truly makes the sandwich, with bread that's soft, airy, and freshly baked daily. I have a gluten sensitivity, and it's never bothered me here. I usually pair it with an iced dirty chai, which is perfectly balanced, not too sweet, with just the right amount of spice. I've never had a bad pastry or sweet treat here, and it's always a joy to watch everything being made fresh behind the counter. Most of the time there's a line out the door, so if you're taking your order to go, I recommend calling ahead. I have loved Madruga's Bakery and it is a staple here in South Miami for me. This morning I placed a pickup order for their tried and true egg sandwich, and what I got was not the usual. The sandwich was on "sonora" bread which I assumed was the normal poppyseed brioche bun, due to pictures of the sandwich still the same as before, but was utterly surprised that it was this bread type. I would say that Madruga's original Egg sandwich was the best in Miami, but now, it is very mediocre with this sourdough. It is too chewy, plain, and untoasted, which notches down this sandwiches taste. I am not sure if this is a permanent substitute but I hope it is not. If it is, someone should update the pictures on the site so others won't get surprised once opening their box to find this bread style on their sandwich. Besides this, I really do love Madruga's, and I hope they don't do more things to reduce their quality. read more

Busy Coral Gables bakery serving delicious pastries, breads and breakfast/lunch items. This bakery has been on my hit list for sometime now and super happy I was able to check it off the list. I came primarily for their guava and cheese danish. And it was incredible. They use the Redlands guava which iykyk. The guava was intense and so fresh yet balance perfectly with the soft cheese. I also had their lemon polenta cake and wow was it moist. Just the right balance between tartness and sweetness. But I also heard their egg sandwiches were a must so I had to try. It was so amazing. The ask how you want your egg and I chose runny. It was just that. Oozing upon first bite and just coated ever morsel of that sandwich. I literally couldn't put it down once I started. The bacon was perfect. The bread was soft yet firm enough to hold everything together. The vibe inside is fast paced. They have lots of people coming in and out which is nothing but a good sign. They have seating available inside and out. Staff was super friendly and even though they were trying to work fast still took the time to answer my questions. Have been to madruga bakery quite a few times now and their food never disappoints. If you're coming on the weekend expect a line out the door. Thankfully it moves pretty quickly. Have ordered online for pick up and usually end up waiting so either option is probably the same wait time. My go to is usually the egg sandwich with a vanilla iced coffee. Their sandwich is so good. Have picked it up and headed to the beach and the bacon is still crunchy! Not sure what they do but it's amazing. I usually pair it with a cookie chip cookie. One of the better cookies I've had in Miami. I will say their iced coffee is light on the sweetener. During my last visit I asked the barista for a bit more vanilla simple syrup and he gave me a hard time about it. He said I had to pay extra when I already paid for the vanilla latte up charge at the register. I think if I want it a bit sweeter it should be included, I don't need a lecture on how he's going to let it slide this one time. read more

Madruga Bakery is so good, I'd go here again and again if I lived in Miami (I live about an hour north in Delray Beach). I love it when you walk into a bakery and you can see bakers baking in the kitchen (which is open to the entire public and store front). We ordered the lemon poppy seed muffin, and grain porridge which was much better than it sounds with peanut butter and jelly floating on top of the porridge, adorned with strawberries. We had the bacon quiche and two amazing coffee drinks. It was crowded on a stormy Saturday, but most people were able to get seats as the turnover is pretty quick. read more

We've been going to Madruga for years but I never wrote a review.... until now! First off, if all Madruga made was their sourdough bread, I'd still rank them as the best bakery in South Miami. Their sourdough is that good!! Compared to some of the other fine bakeries down this way, not only is it better, it's also a better price! Their full loaf is the same price as other bakeries' tiny loaf. We've ordered numerous items from Madruga and all have been excellent. The cookies, the brownies, the croissants, the baguettes, dinner rolls, onion rolls.. etc, all fantastic. This last trip though, I made the "mistake" of reading off the treats in the case to my wife and alerted her of a slice of Basque cheesecake among the items. The mistake was because I didn't see the price, $9 per slice, and she said she wanted to try it. You may think there's nothing worth $9 per slice except maybe a slice of pizza with $8.50 worth of gold on it... but you can add this slice of cheesecake to that short list. Holy WOW! Creamy, delicious, decadent, amazing... I could go on. If you want to give yourself a wonderful treat some day, I recommend a slice of this cheesecake. read more

I'm so glad I found that place. I have been looking for a good ciabatta loaf in Miami for a while now and have been disappointed until now. Madruga Bakery makes a great ciabatta load and ciabatta roll. I also tried their sourdough loaf and their baguette--both excellent. Their sourdough bread was the best of the three. They also have great pastries, croissants, sticky buns, cookies, sandwiches, salads, etc. Only one negative, it get packed on weekends. Luckily, the order on the website is excellent, and they have an online/phone order pickup section that's very efficient. BTW, I have driven buy on weekdays and it's not full at all, so keep that in mind if you just want an easier experience. See my pictures for a good idea of what to expect. The baked goods are exceptional. I feel like they're made with that loving touch. The lemon polenta cake (wheat free) is my fave! Their breakfast sandwich (with extra kale) is one of the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had. The place is ALWAYS busy and crowded. I've been a fan of Madruga Bakery when I tried their flourless chocolate pecan cookies. And I've always loved it and recommended it to everybody. In my recent visit, we got to the counter to select our food items, we noticed flies and biscuit beetles around the food counter and landing on top of the open food items. Although they had two fly fans, I would say they needed two more. Ambiance: The bakery is small and the ambiance is not bad. They have lots of baked goodies and a bread selection of the day. You order at the counter and wait for your name to be called while you grab a table. I came here on a rainy Sunday around 11am, and there was a line out the door! I ordered the rose rooibos tea, a chocolate croissant, and a seasonal focaccia. I was happy to see plenty of seating available inside despite the long line. It seems like maybe people often order from here to-go or stop by from the yoga place next door. The ambiance was nice, and it was a good place to meet up with a friend for a light bite. I thought the quality of the chocolate croissant and focaccia was amazing! The tea was nice, as well. They had so many pastries that looked great and that I would like to try. I was surprised at the total cost coming out to about $17 since the tea was $4, so I probably should have paid closer attention to the pricing. I parked on the pay-by-phone street parking, some of which was on gravel/dirt along the side. There is bank parking across the street, but it was unclear which spots were for the bank and which were not (esp since it was a Sunday when it may be closed). Madruga is quite a gem!! They have such yummy options for both breakfast and lunch - as a vegetarian, their roasted vegetable and chickpea sandwiches are absolutely delicious!! Great experience time and time again! The cheesecake is a must have and I've never like cheesecake much at all but this one, ohhhhh myyyy word, it's worth the calories and trip to the gym. And the gluten-free lemon polenta cake was delicious! No photo of the empanada because I tore it up before I could take a photo, but the buttery flakey crust and quality level of shredded chicken and spices definitely hit the spot. Came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was very crowded and busy! We had to wait only 5 minutes so I was pleasantly surprised. We came in for a coffee and a quick bite! Ordered the chicken empanada and an iced coffee. The chicken empanada was delicious although not warm enough. The iced coffee was bold and delicious just as it should be.
